WBTI appoints Lynette McDonald Associate Fellow of PAI

Ms. Lynette McDonald was appointed by Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) as Associate Fellow of Public Administration Institution (PAI) and Chairperson of Community Relations Study Committee (CRSC) on April 10, 2000.
"I am glad to announce the appointment of Lynette as our Associate Fellow. With her integrity and expertise as a business and political professionalism, she is certainly one more valuable character of this Institution," said Director of PAI Dr. William Thompson.
A business graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Lynette also attended the University of Oregon Graduate School of Journalism and received a Master's of Public Administration degree from UNLV. She is a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society forPublic Administration and Public Affairs.
Lynette was appointed June 28, 1999 to represent Ward 2 and made history July 12, 1999, becoming the first Councilwoman to take office in City of Las Vegas history. She has been Director of Marketing and Community Relations at UNLV since 1997. She was Assistant Manager of Las Vegas City form 1994 to 1997. As a "Distinguished Woman of Southern Nevada," her experience in City government couple with her civic leadership and involveent makes her a valuable addition to the Council.
The Councilwoman was the former Las Vegas Chairwoman of the National Campaign to Stop Violence and a Member of the Southern Nevada Strategic Planning Authority. A former Miss Oregon who competed in the 1989 Miss America Pageant, she currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities, a Board Member of the National Conference for Community and Justice, among others.
On April 8, 2000, the Councilwoman held the Grand Opening of the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center (VMLSC). This is the largest community center in Las Vegas run by the Department of Leisure Services (DLS). In the Opening, Director of DLS Dr. Barbara Jackson made the Introduction: "This Center is a 45,000 square foot recreational, cultural and sports facility offering programs for people of all ages and abilities. We are proud to offer the widest variety of programs in the Las Vegas valley. The City of Las Vegas DLS is excited to serve your community with 'Something for Everyone'."
The Councilwoman gave a speech of Welcome. Official Opening of VMLSC--"The Doors Are Open" was also processed by her. "It is with great pleasure I welcome the citizens of Las Vegas to the grand opening of VMLSC. Our mission at the City is to provide services that enhance the quality of life for all citizens and visitors of Las Vegas, and what better way to accomplish this than by offering a wide array of recreational services in a state-of-the-art community center. The City of Las Vegas DLS will staff this new facility with programs represented by all their divisions: Senior Citizen Programs, Visual & Performing Arts, Adaptive Recreation for physically mentally challenged, and Recreation," spoke Councilwoman Lynette McDonald. "Please feel free to share your suggestions and concerns with our skilled Leisure Services staff or me so we can ensure your experience at our newest Leisure Services Center is most enjoyable," she added.
Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute and Executive Vice President of Seniors United, with his wife Judy presented to congratulate the Event.
On April 21, 2000, Ms. Sonya Douglass was appointed Research Associate of PAI by WBTI. She graduated cum laude from Colorado State University with a double major in Speech Communication and Journalism & Technical Communication. Sonya is now pursuing her Master's in Public Administration from UNLV. She joined the City of Las Vegas in 1998 as Publicity Specialist for the Planning & Development Department. She is a Ward Liaison for Councilwoman McDonald, working to meet the needs and concerns of residents in Ward 2. She sits on the City of Las Vegas Neighborhood Partners Fund Board and chair the Media Subcommittee for the Southern Nevada Census 2000 Committee.
PAI has been led by its Director and Fellow Dr. William Thompson with achieved and excellent faculty members. He is now chair and professor of the Public Administration Department of UNLV.
