It is obvious that man or woman is himself or herself a traveler. The good purpose for mankind in this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." The service that we render to other people is really like the rent we pay for our room on this earth. We are sure that the people who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

Twenty-five centuries ago, Lao-tse, a Chinese sage, offered this profound insight;
"The reason why rivers and seas receives the homage of a hundred mountain streams is that they keep below them. Thus they are able to reign over all the mountain streams. So the sage, wishing to be above men, putteth himself below them; wishing to be before them, he putteth himself behind them. Thus, though his place be above men, they do not feel his weight; though his place be before them, they do not count it an injury."
So it is with humankind. Those who wish to yield the greatest influence will unselfishly position themselves below others, so as to serve them better.
Bruce Barton told a parable two seas in Palestine that expounds on the wisdom of Lao-tse. One sea is flesh. Fish live in it. Trees and bushes grow near it. Children splash and paly in it. The river Jordan flows into this sea with sparkling water from the hills. People build their homes near it. Every kind of life is happier because it is there. The same river Jordan flows south into another sea. Here there are no fish, no green things, no children playing, no homes a building. Stale air hangs above its waters, and neither man nor beast will drink of it. What makes the difference between these neighbor seas? Not the Jordan River. It empties the same good water into both. Nor is the soil or the countryside.
The differnece is that the Sea of Galilee receives water but does not keep it. For every drop that flows in, another drop flows out. The giving and receiving go on in equal measure. The other sea hoards its income. Every drop it gets it keeps. The Sea of Galilee lives and lives. The other sea gives nothing. It is called the Dead Sea.
There are also two kinds of people in this world---those Dead Sea people who take without giving back, and the givers who remain fresh and vibrant by freely sharing of themselves.

Happy Father抯 Day! I would like to sincerely thank you for the many years you invested in me as my father and mentor. I appreciate your love for our family and your diligence and efforts to provide for our needs. I pray that God grant you a fabulous day to celebrate this special occasion. You deserve the highest honor and admiration for being a great Dad!*2

I have clearly seen confirmations that the Spirit of God touched your heart in the past year. God truly has answered our prayers. I often give praise and thanks to our Lord for your transformation and share this wonderful testimony with people around me. Please continue to spend time with Mom to pray and read the Bible together.

I am very proud that you are my father. You are a family and community leader who is intelligent, productive, focused, visionary, admirable and successful. You have impacted many lives in positive ways, including Mom, Mike and myself. Mere words cannot adequately explain your influence and accomplishments. Besides the many books you have written, your Presidency in the Washington Business & Technology Institute, Professorship in Taiwan, Doctoral degree, numerous governmental awards/honors, and contribution to the community, you have successfully held our family together and raised two God-serving sons. Congratulations! God has really blessed us through you, from our humble beginnings at the old Pepperdine campus to His abundant provisions to our family today.

I will always remember the times you encourage me to study hard and get good grades. You also supported me to pursue a business-related career. I am very thankful since I know your caring played a role in me obtaining the good job I have right now. I will also always remember your prayers to God during my last trip home. Your prayers are sincere, personal, heart-felt -- truly like you are having a conversation with God. I want to learn from that. Our family now is getting closer and closer together. There is nothing better than all four of us praying, studying the Bible, and go to church together in one heart.

Even though this is a simple letter, I hope it will bring you happiness. I will leave you with these words of blessings from Bible:

Elaine Lan Chao [Hsiao-lan Chao] (Chinese: 趙小蘭, pinyin: Zhào Xiǎolán, Wade-Giles Chao Hsiao-lan; b. March 26, 1953) currently [Editor's note: (approximately in 2003)] serves as the 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor. She is the first Asian American woman and first Chinese American to be appointed to the federal cabinet.*2

Childhood and education
Born in Taipei, Taiwan to James S. C. Chao (趙錫成 Zhào Xīchéng Chao), a Shanghainese businessman, and Ruth Mu-lan Chu (朱木蘭 Zhū Mùlán), a historian, Elaine Chao immigrated to the United States at the age of eight.

Chao studied economics at Mount Holyoke College and received an MBA from Harvard Business School. She also studied at MIT, Dartmouth College, and Columbia University. She is also the recipient of 20 honorary doctoral degrees from colleges and universities across the country.

Career
After a brief stint as a banker with Citigroup, she was selected as a White House Fellow in 1983, working in the Office of Policy Development . While a vice president with BankAmerica Capital Markets , Chao became involved in fundraising for Republican political candidates in California.

In 1986, Chao returned to Washington D.C. as Deputy Administrator of the US Maritime Administration in the US Department of Transportation. From 1988 to 1989, she was Chairwoman of the U.S. Maritime Commission.

In 1989, President George H. W. Bush nominated Chao to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation, the number two position in the department. From 1991 to 1992, Chao was Director of the Peace Corps, the first Asian American to serve in that position. She expanded Peace Corps' presence in Eastern Europe and Central Asia by establishing the first Peace Corps programs in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and other newly independent countries."

Following her service in the government, Chao worked for four years as President of the United Way of America. She is credited with bringing credibility and public trust back to the organization after an embarrassing financial mismanagement scandal. From 1996 until her appointment as Secretary of Labor, Chao was a Distinguished Fellow with the Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington think-tank.

Labor Secretary
As Labor Secretary, Chao authored and published proposed regulations that would raise the minimum salary for automatic overtime eligibility from $8,060 to $22,100, while exempting almost all white-collar workers earning more than $65,000. The changes would be the first since 1975. Anyone in the armed services would not qualify for overtime. On January 20, 2004, the overdue 2004 spending bill Chao's proposals were attached to failed to get the 60-vote supermajority in the United States Senate needed to end debate and allow a second vote for final passage.
