With more good personal traits, we shall be more easy to be a leader. In a Nutshell, Be a Leader, Dale Carnegie put the following suggestions in his book entitled "How to Win Friends & Influence People":

"A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and behavior. Some suggestions to accomplish this:

Principle 1
Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
Principle 2
Call attention to people's mistakes indirctly.
Principle 3
Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.
Principle 4
Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
Principle 5
Let the other person save face.
Principle 6
Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be 'hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.'
Principle 7
Give the other person a fine reputation to live up tp.
Principle 8
Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
Principle 9
Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest."*1

THE ONLINE GUY: For e-mail, columnist stays true to Yahoo!

After using several Web-based e-mail services for more than six years and testing the latest offering from Google, a favorite has emerged.

The winner is ... Yahoo! -- by a nose.

The low-cost upgraded version of Yahoo! mail edged out my beta-test version of GMail (from Google.com) for one reason: portability. I can receive and send mail from Yahoo! on my handheld Treo smart phone. With GMail, I'm forced to get to a computer, then reach my "in" box through a Web browser.

I pay Yahoo! $35 a year for the ability to turn the Web mail into POP (post office protocol) mail, which is what most traditional e-mail programs deliver. If you're not sure what flavor of e-mail you're using, the simple test is this: If you get mail by visiting a Web site and logging in there, you are using Web-based mail. If you must launch an e-mail program such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Eudora, you're using a POP mail program.

I'm a big fan of Web-based e-mail for a lot of reasons, including:

?Easy access. If you can get to an Internet-connected computer and launch a browser, you can get to your e-mail. Most offer at least 100 megabytes of storage, which should be enough room to save thousands of messages. Some offer 10 times more space.

?Stability. If you move to a new city and have a local Internet service provider, chances are you'll end up with a new ISP and a new e-mail address. With Web-based mail your e-mail address stays put.

?Privacy. Use your work e-mail for work and your Web-based mail for your private life. It shouldn't take long to train your family and friends to send to a different address, and the boss will appreciate it. A lot of people log onto personal mail during breaks and lunch hour. Why not take it a step further and avoid taxing the company's mail system?

?Spam filtering. Every Web-based service I've used incorporates spam filters. The Yahoo! filters are great, as are the GMail and Hotmail filters. Select the maximum filtering for best results.

?Security. Web-based mail acts as a final security barrier, as virus checking and options to either download, preview or delete attachments is part of the offering.

Back to Google's new e-mail for a minute. I've been beta testing GMail for a couple months and really like what they've done. Imagine a Google-powered search engine pointed only at your mailbox. There's no reason to sort by sender, topic or priority. Simply "archive" the message and use the search function to retrieve a message later. It works.

Yes, some GMail messages carry ads from companies associated with topics in your mail. The ads didn't bother me and I even followed the links a few times.

If I could use GMail on my smart phone, I'd probably be a convert. Until then, Yahoo! suits me best.

My coming trip to China, Japan, and Taiwan
By Becky Ung

Dear Dr. Lei,

It was nice talking to you yesterday.

Currently I am teaching three EQ classes; two in Rowland Height area and one
in Palos Verdes on top of many students I see in private sessions. And I continue to be invited to go to different schools, churches, radio stations and T.V. stations to speak on the subject of emotional intelligence.

After stepping down from School Board Governing position, I was appointed to
be the Community Liaison on behalf of the San Marino School District.*1 This way I continue to be involved. I am able to offer my experiences and expertise to help parents and students.

I am now serving as a director on the board of Bienvenido Children's Village. It is a temperary shelter for severely abused and neglected children. I believe in their mission: "To assist children and families toward healthy relationships and life competency." And their vision is "A world of tomorrows where children flourish and families thrive."

In March of this year I will travel to Taipei to promote my second book. Then I am being invited to offer workshops in China. There are some potential speaking engagement in different universities in Japan, Taiwan and China.

Wishing you and your family a new year of Monkey filled with love, peace, good health, prosperity and a bit of adventures.

Becky

"13 Reasons for Living" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez*2

1. I love you not for who you are, but who I am when I'm by your side.

2. No person deserves your tears, and who deserves them won't make you cry.

3. Just because someone doesn't love you as you wish, it doesn't mean you are not loved with all his/her being.

4. A true friend is the one who holds your hand and touches your heart.

5. The worst way to miss someone is to be seated by his/her side and know you will never have him/her.

6. Never stop smiling, not even when you¡¦re sad, someone might fall in love with your smile.

7. You may only be a person in this world, but for someone, you are the world.

8. Don't spend time with someone who doesn't care spending it with you.

9. Maybe God wants you to meet many wrong people before you meet the right one, so when this happens, your will be thankful.

10. Don't cry because it came to an end. Smile because it happened.

11. There will always be people who'll hurt you, so you need to continue trusting, just be careful.

12. Become a better person and be sure to know who you are before meeting someone new and hoping that person knows who you are.

13. Don't struggle so much, best things happen when not expected.

continually empower and educate their children."

I want to thank you for playing an important role in my career and

Dear Dr. Lei,

Here is the article you requested about social etiquette. Please let me know if it is ok.*3

Becky

Social Etiquette

What is etiquette anyway? Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language says: "conventional requirements as to social behavior; proprieties of conduct as established in any class or community or for any occasion."

What is graciousness anyway? Webster's again: "disposed to show grace or favor; kind: benevolent; courteous." Yes, yes, yes! We can all do that! We can become kind, benevolent and courteous and it will help us in life! It will pave the way to our success and happiness! I can envision a society where people care about each other and treat each other with graciousness.

I believe so strongly that all social and business situations are about graciousness that I've made it my mission to help as many people as possible to put their best foot forward graciously. I think everyone agrees that having social skills will make us better people, give us more confidence and keep us better connected.

One sure way to learn about social etiquette is try not to make the same mistakes as others. According to a recent study conducted by The Protocol School of Palm Beach, the following are America’s top 10 etiquette pet peeves:

People who make slurping, smacking or clicking noises while eating.

People who conduct private conversations during a meeting.

People who talk on their cell phones in meetings or restaurants.

People who send unsolicited jokes, photos or chain letters over the Internet.

People who constantly interrupt before others have finished talking.

People who don't ’t cover their mouths when coughing, sneezing or yawning.

People who begin eating before everyone at their table has been served.

People who pick their teeth with their fingers or with a toothpick at the table.

People who don't’t acknowledge a gift with a thank-you note.

People who pile a large amount of food on their plate and don't ’t leave enough food for others.

*****
Yes. It is very useful and practical.

Becky Ung is the hit winner of visitor number at sixty thousandth (#60,000th) [now at #68, 418th] of WBTI website
By GSBPA of WBTI*1

Becky Ung is the hit winner of visitor number at sixty thousandth (#60,000th) [now at #68, 418th] of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) website at: http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti early in the morning of May 30, 2004 in San Marino, California.

"Dear Dr. Lei,

I am so glad to be number 60,000th [now at #68, 418th] visitor of WBTI website. I always enjoy reading your articles of political, educational and cultural aspects of this well-designed site.

Recently I was involved with a program "Reading by 9", part of which is a parent's guide put out by L.A. Times and Chinese Daily Journal to promote parents helping kids to make reading fun and an important part of every day.

Reading is the most important fundamental skill for success in school and society. It is the first skill children must learn by age nine in order to do well in other subjects. Children first need to "learn to read" before age 9, then they need to "read to learn".

As you know, every year the month of May is "Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month". Recently, President George W. Bush has signed a new Executive Order entitled "Increasing Economic Opportunity And Business Participation Of Asian Americans And Pacific Islanders. This Executive Order renews the President's Advisory Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islanders, and also the Office of the White House Initiative on Asian American and Pacific Islanders, housed at the Department of Commerce, Minority Business Development Agency. The President is deeply committed to ensuring that the needs of Asian American and Pacific Islanders are addressed and, thus, the Initiative will focus on providing equal economic opportunities for Asian American and Pacific Islanders where they may be underserved.

I am honored to be the recipient of 49th Assembly District's Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA)Heritage Month Awards in the field of "FAMILY". The qualification of this award is: "This is a parent or a guardian who deserves to be recognized for the outstanding commitment to their family and may have faced adversity but has overcome many challenges. It is also a parent or a guardian who strives to continually empower and educate their children."

As you know I am always a strong advocate for children. I believe all children are our children and it does takes a village to raise a child. I will continue to strive to empower and educate all children.

I wish you the best.

Sincerely yours,

Becky," wrote Ms. Becky Ung in her e-mail to WBTI on May 30, 2004.*2

The following is an article entitled "Increase Your Potential and EQ for Success" by Natalie Tyrrell*3 and Tiffany Chang:

"It's been said there are three kinds of people: (1) Those who watch things happen. (2) Those who make things happen. (3) Those who wonder what happened? Don't be part of the third catergory of clueless people who wonder around aimlessly. It is not enough to breathe a sigh and figure that your learning days areover. Here you are in this world, this world that is undeniable the way it is. You can do nothing to change what happended in the past, yet you can do everything to vastly improve what lies in the future. You have the ability to build, to create, to improve yourself and your future. You can MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. Remember you have immense potential. Your future is vast and awesome. If you keep learning and improving, your destiny will bring you long term happiness, enrichment, success, love and much more. As the martial art student realized, his reward of the black belt represented the beginning - the start of a never-ending journey of discipline, work and the pursuit of an ever-higher standard. 'What is the true meaning of the diploma you are about to receive?' This is your Commencement Day. And it is only fitting to say to you, as we salute you for your accomplishment, that, truly, this is only the beginning," delivered the Commencement Speech at SMHS 2002 recently by Becky Ung, President of the School Board for San Marino Unified School District, California.

Becky is a national and international famous Speaker in California, United States; Taipei, Taiwan; and Beijing, Shanghai, Amoy, China. She has published a numerious Vidio Tapes, feature articles, and books. Her recent famous book named "What you Wish is What you Get" was published by Songan Publishing Inc. in 2001 at Taipei, Taiwan. The next one of hers, "E. Q. Unlimited," will be published by Franklin Publications at Taipei in the fall of 2002. She is an expert of E. Q. (Emotional Intelligence). Becky has been honored as an Assistant Fellow of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).

"I am delighted by this honor. Thank you for the appointment. I think this is the biggest title that I have ever held!" Becky sent an e-mail to Dr. Tony Lei, President of WBTI, on May 19, 2002.

"Besides what I'm already doing in my teaching goal, I'd like to continue to introduce and integrate the best of American culture and social into Chinese churches and families to help them in the assimilation process. People have to pursue, accept, and embrace all kinds of opportunities and challenges that lives have to offer. I encourage them to utilize their potential to the fullest extent. I believe awareness is a pre-requisite to a happy and successful life. I'll do my best to serve the Lord and follow His will. I'll also devote my time, talents, and resources to help others and make a difference in their lives," she spoke to the public.

"As an Assistant Fellow of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), it's my precious opportunity to realize my potential of entrepreneuship to work with all these outstanding faculty members of WBTI under the encouragement and spiritual leadeship of Elaine Chao who has been honored as the Chairperson of this Institute," said Becky Ung.
