Thanks to all who came last week to help wrap
Christmas shoe boxes for needy children. We had a lot
of fun and we did such a great job that we ran out of
toys for all the wrapped boxes!

Praise God that everyone were united last week to
propose a new start time every Friday at 7:30pm. This
way we can end the meeting at or before 10:30pm.
Please try to come on time at 7:30pm so we won't have
delays. Kang will lead us for Bible study (his first
time!) so please come and give him your full support
:)

We will also discuss Thanksgiving activities on
Friday. Again the location is River of Life Christian

Why God Allows Sufferings in the World?

One of the favorite proclamations of Christians today is God is good, all the time! I sincerely believe that myself. However, one of the major attacks by non-Christians is how can a good and loving God allow so much suffering in the world 1. This paper seeks to find Biblical explanations to this question, and I hope it will help me provide the correct responses when faced with this same question in the future.*1

The first reason God allows sufferings in the world is that trials can actually be good for us a blessing in disguise. James wrote Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything (James 1:2-4). Here, God clearly tells us that painful trials will produce positive results in the form of a strengthened faith and perseverance. We can even interpret that God is saying trials are necessary for us to mature and be a more complete Christian. Paul also wrote, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that sufferings produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope (Romans 5:3-4). As humans, sometimes we only see the pains of current sufferings and do not understand Gods good purposes and plan for us. God says in Isaiah, As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts (Isaiah 55:9). ...*2

Dear brothers & sisters,

Time goes by so fast, it's hard to believe I will leave for Togo, Africa tomorrow afternoon for a mission trip (will be back next Saturday). Thanks to Jonathan, Tracy, Nicole, Tine, and Christine for praying for my trip last night after the prayer meeting at church.*3

I have been asked by some people to provide the trip schedule so all of you can know what to pray for on a daily basis, so here is a quick summary:

Friday (8/11) leave SFO at 4:20pm
Saturday (8/12) arrive at Lome, Togo at 5:35pm (~20 hours), attend service at daughter church
Sunday (8/13) Sunday service and visit the well our church supported to build
Monday (8/14) Visit potential new building that will combine 2 daughter churches in the city (Lome)
Tues (8/15) travel to villages to share the Gospel with Every Home for Christ
Wed (8/16) continue travel to villages to share Gospel with Every Home for Christ
Thur (8/17) continue travel to villages to share Gospel with Every Home for Christ
Friday (8/18) Wrap up & leave Lome, Togo at 10:30pm
Saturday (8/19) Arrive in SFO 12:30pm

I will be in charge to taking photos for the team.

西藏歷來是國內外探險旅遊的聖地;然而,地理位置閉塞和交通運輸落後一直制約著西藏旅遊業的發展。令人高興的是,今年7月1日,青藏鐵路將全線試運行,而素有「東方瑞士」和「西藏江南」美譽的西藏林芝地區也將在近期開通民航。

 專家認為,隨著鐵路、民航的全面開通,特別是鐵路的通車,將徹底改變過去「出國容易進藏難」的困境,西藏對於國內外遊客來說將不再遙遠,西藏旅遊業也將進入「黃金時期」。

 青藏鐵路即將於今年7月1日開始全線試運行。一些政府官員和專家、學者認為,青藏鐵路的開通將改變內地遊客赴西藏旅遊的組織方式和進藏旅遊的客流量,並大幅降低進出西藏的旅遊服務成本,從而對西藏旅遊業的發展產生積極影響。

 在西藏自治區社會科學院和中國社科院工業經濟研究所合作進行的「青藏鐵路對西藏社會經濟發展影響問題」課題的研究報告中指出,青藏鐵路的開通,將世界上應用最為廣泛的長途交通運輸方式引入西藏,為西藏提供全天候大運量的進出通道,將從根本上改變西藏對外交通聯繫的條件,促進生產力佈局和地區經濟的發展。

 而林芝機場的開通,將有望成為內地遊客乘飛機進藏旅遊的首站。位於「大香格里拉圈」的西藏林芝地區,因受印度洋暖濕氣流影響,常年氣候宜人。這裏還有面積極大的原始森林,是雪域高原上的一個「天然大氧吧」。

 正在建設中的林芝機場標高2954米,是目前西藏境內海拔最低的一個機場。因為內地遊客到高原旅遊最怕出現高原反應,如果遊客先到海拔相對較低的地方「習服」一段時間再前往高海拔地區,將對適應高原環境大有幫助。

 有關人士認為,從長遠看,這兩個重要交通基礎設施的修建,將徹底改變西藏的旅遊組織形式,使藏區旅遊線路由過去以拉薩為中心的放射線狀,改為入藏林芝拉薩或昌都出藏的半環狀,來藏旅遊可以不再走「回頭路」,減少旅遊時間和身體疲勞,並節省開支。

 其次,鐵路將使進藏旅遊的客流量大幅增長。青藏鐵路通車後,西藏旅遊發展的後發優勢將逐漸顯現出來,屆時預計每年進藏遊客將會增加90萬人次,到2010年接待遊人298萬人次,旅遊總收入25億元。

 根據統計資料顯示,1991-2002年間來西藏的海內外旅遊人數年均增長率為20%左右。根據西藏社科院和中國社科院工業經濟研究所合作課題的研究結果,在2006年青藏鐵路正式投入運營後,預計旅遊人數的年均增長將可能提高到30%左右,按此增長率和按2002年遊客人均消費額1100元計算,2010年到西藏的遊客人

數有望達到528萬2400人;旅遊業直接收入可達58億元。
 西藏自治區旅遊局透過網上調查發現:西藏的國內旅遊客源地主要是上海、廣州、北京等城市;調查顯示,在北京有能力出遊的人群當中,六成渴望到西藏旅遊,但由於西藏交通閉塞、費用昂貴等原因,實際來藏旅遊的遊客不到此一群體的10%。

 西藏自治區農科院黨委書記洛桑旦達認為,鐵路開通最大的好處是將促進西藏的人流、物流和資訊流,對西藏旅遊產業發展產生巨大影響,為西藏文化產業做大做強提供難得的機遇。大多數專家認為,鐵路開通將極大地促進西藏旅遊資源的進一步開發,以及有效地降低進出藏旅遊服務成本。

 青藏鐵路建設總指揮部表示,建成後的青藏鐵路全線將保持全天候通車。開通後的列車在一般路段的速度將達到每小時120公里,在凍土地段達到每小時100公里。這意味著從格爾木至拉薩這1142公里的路段,旅客的乘車時間不會超過12小時在半天內乘火車登上青藏高原已不再是夢想。

 隨著中國大陸居民生活水準的提高和帶薪休假的興起,國內遊客具備了進藏旅遊在經濟上和時間上的條件。青藏鐵路建成通車後,將使渴望進藏的旅遊者有機會選擇費用低廉的交通方式,節省旅遊成本。他們還可以在列車上飽覽沿途高原風光的同時,逐步適應高原氣候,減輕高原反應。

 目前,西藏依然是全中國唯一沒有運營鐵路的省區;旅客無論是經公路還是乘飛機進入西藏,所需的費用均比較高。從公路運輸來看,由於受道路和氣候條件的限制,目前進出藏旅客運輸不僅時間長,舒適性和安全性都較差,而且價格有些偏高。特別是從西北地區和青藏公路沿線進入拉薩的客運價格,平均每公里客運價格高達0.20-0.27元左右,高於從西南地區及沿線進入拉薩每公里0.19元的運價。青藏鐵路開通後,由於鐵路旅客運輸具有高效、安全、舒適的特點,因此會有相當一部分旅客改乘火車,促使從西北地區和青藏公路沿線進入拉薩的客運價格有所下降。

 再從航空運輸來看,目前進出西藏的航空運輸主要由西南航空公司經營,由於種種原因,不僅價格高,而且很少打折,使到西藏的航運價格遠高於國內其他航線的平均價格。隨著青藏鐵路的開通,人們可選擇多種進出西藏的交通方式,這也有助於打破航空公司的壟斷局面。
