Vision and enthusiasm By Tiffany ChangThe willingness to create a new vision is a statement of your belief in your potential. ---David McNally _____________________________________________ Carl Schutz told us that, "Ideals are like stars. You will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them you will reach your destiny." It is our pleasure to inspire the significance of the idea, "The world of tomorrow belongs to the person who has the vision today," which was stated by Robert Schuller. Having good vision, we will bring it together with us to help promote a peaceful, happy, and healthy community.*1 "Vision seems to be an elusive yet import life principle. Your vision describes the ideal future for you to attain. It provides meaning and direction while forcing you to break through present limitations. Holding a clear picture in your mind of the desired future will mobilize your creative efforts and generate the desire and energy to perform," edited Glenn Ekeren in his book.*2 Vision may develop its power to direct what tommorrow will look like. Vision is having an acute sense of the possible. The thing what others can not see, it can be seen by vision. Something extraordinary will occur when those with similar visions are drawn together. The goal of John F. Kennedy set in 1060 to place a man on the moon by 1970 drew many million people's efforts in achieving the dream. John had the vision. The result is now history with reality. "John F. Kennedy was a living example of Mitchell Kapor's belief that, 'If you can genuinely present a picture that makes sense to people, that unifies the seemingly disperate elements of their experience, if you can give people something they can resonate with because it's meaningful, then they'll be immensely responsive to it.' JFK presented that picture and America responded." *3 Enthusiasm is important, especially very important to many things in our lives.*4 We need to push our valuable vision through enthusiasm. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** There is nothing greater than enthusiasm. ---Henry Moore ***** If you don't have enthusiasm, you don't have anything. ---Kemmons Wilson, Sr. ***** Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm. ---Tom Peters It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek roots en and theos and means "God within." It is a fire, a passion within. Real enthusiasm is not something you "put on" and "take off " to fit the occasion. It is a way of life. Apparently Theodore Roosevelt possessed that kind of passionate lifestyle. In 1883, according to Bernard Levin, writing in Enthusiasms (Crown Publishers), Roosevelt went buffalo hunting in the Badlands of South Dakota with a single companion, Joe Ferris. They nearly died of thirst, and they slept on the ground, saddles their only pillows. One night wolves caused their horses to bolt, and it took some time for the fleeing beasts to be recaptured. The men went back to sleep; it began to rain heavily and they awoke, finding themselves lying in four inches of water. Shivering between sodden blankets, Ferris heard Teddy Roosevelt exclaim, "By Godfrey, but this is fun!" Now that's enthusiasm!*5 We are quite inspired by the words of wisdom as said by Alan Loy McGinnis that, "There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed." Vision with enthusiasm may bring us with hope to serve our people, community, and country!*6 "It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and an Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out the Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Communitylink of Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas, Nevad on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). "Please know that I irrevocably stand by my personal commitment to diversity issues in this state and that my sense of patriotism and faith in America stems from its embrace of that diversity." *7 ------------------------------------- References *1. The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say "I." And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say "I." They don't think "I." They think "we"; they think "team." They understand their job to be to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but "we" gets the credit~{v*~}. This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done. ---Peter F. Drucker--------------------- "Love that lasts involves a real and genuine concern for others as persons, for their values as they feel them, for their development and growth," said Evelyn Duvall.*1 In our real world, people are led by leaders. Leadership is love --- a way to reaching a goal By Tiffany Chang and PAI of WBTI*1In our real world, people are led by leaders. A successful leader is consistently follwed by others. People follow because they have a belief in the direction, intergrity, and competence of the one leading. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor ***** To be a leader means willingness to risk--and willingness to love. Has the leader given you something from the heart? ---Hubert H. Humphrey ***** The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between the leader is a servant. ---Max Dupree; "Leadership Is an Art" It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: I went on a search to become a leader. I searched high and low. I spoke with authority. People listened. But alas, there was one who was wiser than I, and they follow that individual. I sought to inspire confidence, but the crowd responded, "Why should I trust you?" I postured, and I assumed the look of leadership with a countenance that flowed with confidence and pride. But many passed me by and never noticed my air of elegance. I ran ahead of the others, pointed the way to new heights. I demonstrated that I knew the road to greatness. And then I looked back, and I was alone. "What shall I do?" I queried. "I've tried hard and used all that I know." And I sat down and pondered long. And then, I listened to the voices around me. And I heard what the group was trying to accomplish. I rolled up my sleeves and joined in the work. As we worked, I asked, "Are we all together in what we want to do and how to get the job done?" And we thought together, and we fought together, and we struggled towards our goal. I found myself encouraging the fainthearted. I sought the ideas of those too shy to speak out. I taught those who had little skill. I praised those who worked hard. When our task was completed, one of the group turned to me and said, "This would not have been done but for your leadership." At first, I said, "I didn't lead. I just worked with the rest." And then I understood, leadership is not a goal. It's a way to reaching a goal. I lead best when I help others to go where we've decide to go. I lead best when I help others to use themselves creatively. I lead best when I forget about myself as leader and focus on my group...their needs and their goals. To lead is to serve...to give...to achieve together. ---By Anonymous*2 ------------------------------------- References *1. Post through the "雜誌新聞>天下雜誌" of Yahoo! 555555555555555 777777777777777777777777 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 **************************************************

Post through the courtesy of the "雜誌" of Yahoo! 777777777777 111111111111111111111111 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 *****************************************************

Post through the courtesy of the "書香世界" of Worldjournal.com:你的快樂有幾分? [2006-11-19] 44444444444444 33333333333333333333333333 77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 **************************************************

Post through the "雜誌新聞>天下雜誌" of Yahoo! 111111111111111111 8888888888888888888888888888 77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 *****************************************************

Post through the courtesy of the "管理雜誌" of Yahoo! 555555555555555 1111111111111111111111111111 77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 ******************************************************

The skills of human relations are important! By Jennifer Kung and PAI of WBTI"Only 15 percent of a businessperson's success could be attributed to job knowledge and technical skills. An essential element but a small overall contribution. It showed that 85 percent of one's success would be determined by what they call 'ability to deal with people' and 'attitude'," showed the Carnegie Foundation study once. Sensitvity to the needs and desires of others people ultimately leads to success. Sir James Barrie told us that, "Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones: ***** "Remember that a man's name, to him, the sweetest and most important sound in any language." ---Dale Carnegie ***** He does good to himself/herself who does good to his friend. ---Erasmus ***** Man/woman lives more by affirmation than by bread. ---Victor Hugo ***** "Anyone can be polite to a king, but it takes a gentleman to be polite to a beggar." ---Jim shea ***** "You can handle people more successfully by enlisting their feelings than by convncing their reason." ---Paul P. Parker It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren: Dougls MacArthur is well known, but few know that he was not only a great general but was also very adept at human relations. He had an aide write a report of every visiting dignitary's background and interest. Yhe next time the dignitary returned, Macarthur was able to make the visitor feel important and flattered by all that he remembered about him. "Politeness is the hallmark of the gentle-man and the gentle-woman. No characteristic will so help one to advance, whether in business or society, as politeness. Competition is so keen today, there is so much standardized merchandise, there are so many places where one's wants can be supplied, that the success or failure of a business can depend on the ability to please customers or clients. Courtesy--another name for politeness--costs nothing, but can gain much both foe an individual and for an organization." ---B. C. Forbes*2 The six most important words in the English language are: "I admit I made a mistake." The five most important words: "You did a great job." The four most important words" "What is your opinion?" The three most important words:'If you please." The two most important words: "Thank you." The single most important word: "We." The least most impotant word: "I." *3 President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute reminds us that it is valuabe to take time to make the other person feel important, no matter how busy we are. ------------------------------------- References *1. Post through the courtesy of the "華人生活圈" of Worldjournal.com:趙克強 盼傳承管理長才 藉出書、辦研習班、網站及全球論壇 讓華裔專業人士受益 [[[趙克強博士退休後,積極想將管理的經驗傳承給其他人士。 [2006-08-18] 22222222222222 555555555555555555555555555 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 *****************************************************

Post through the courtesy of the "書香世界" of Worldjournal.com:《經濟書坊》領導病毒 ●蘇課長終於受不了了!

A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and behavior By Jennifer KungWith more good personal traits, we shall be more easy to be a leader. In 'A Nutshell, Be a Leader,' Dale Carnegie put the following suggestions in his book entitled "How to Win Friends & Influence People": "A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and behavior. Some suggestions to accomplish this:*1 Principle 1 Begin with praise and honest appreciation. Principle 2 Call attention to people's mistakes indirctly. Principle 3 Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person. Principle 4 Ask questions instead of giving direct orders. Principle 5 Let the other person save face. Principle 6 Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be 'hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.' Principle 7 Give the other person a fine reputation to live up tp. Principle 8 Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct. Principle 9 Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest." *2 -------------------------------------------- References *1. . Carnegie, Dale. Innovative marketing for business By Tiffany Chang and PAI of WBTI*1Innovation is practical for a real need. It is not a random process. "When it works, it works because someone has identified a real need, and found a way to bring new ideas or new technologies to bear on that need," said Lewis W. Lehr. An innovator's life is governed by "to create" lists. She or he is incessantly pursuing new possibilities and refinning existing ones. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** Make a technical contribution, innovate, don't emulate. ---David Packard ***** any business that does not learn how to innovate within the next few years will not be around by the year 2000. ---Peter F. Drucker ***** Innovation has to be linked to a market-driven mentality, tied in with customer needs. It can't be done in a vacuum, or as innovation for its own sake. ---Jim Beard*2 It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: "Business has only two functions," writes Peter Drucker, "marketing and innovation." Consider these phrases posted on separate roadside signs: A peach looks good...with lots of fuzz... but man's no peach... and never was... Burma Shave! In 1925, Burma Shave knew they had a great product but were ineffective in marketing it. So, their roadside advertising was implemented. Today, the Burma Shave commercial are highly recognized as memorable trivia. Here's another exemplary approach combining innovation and unique marketing. A small garage-based company took a single product, biodegradable soap, broke the customary marketing trends and amassed a fortune. Using multi-level marketing, Amway left its competitors green with envy. First, they produced a quality product, developed unique packaging, attached distinctive labeling, and then used direct salespeople to sell their product. It is working to the tune of an estimated $1 billion in annual revenues. Domino's Pizza shocked the industry with their original idea: "Guaranteed delivery in 30 minutes or $3.00 off."Quick service is now a minimum standard in the food industry. Innovative marketing-could it be the third function of business?*3 Innovation is one of the most important traits for the prosperity of American business. Hope our Pan Pacific and Asian countries may catch it as soon as possible! ------------------------------------- References *1. 032206-1187 "Business & Administration" (PPAA 20), ***** Monday, 9:37 a. m., March 22, 2006 #Third printing of the Second Edition on November 21, 2005*****The biggest credit of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) is its people By Valorie Vega, Michael Douglas, Jessie Walsh, and Tiffany Chang ***** There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed. ---Alan Loy McGinnis At the dawn of this new era, the emphasis has shifted from the physical and mechanical labor required by the Industrial Revolution to the mental labor needed to sustain the new Information Revoluation. In an organization, the people and minds have become the most precious assets for its development, innovation, and prosperity. Since the beginning in the fall of 1937, Pepperdine University has experienced remarkable progress and achievement the realm of higher education. The faculty of the University seek to instill not only a will to achieve excellence, but also a spirit of philanthrophy and servanhood. Designed nicely, the Malibu campus of Pepperdine has frequently been described as the most beautiful one in the world. Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) was created as an inspirational medium for academic research and community service under the affirmation and creed of Pepperdine University.*1 "Our greatest credit at Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) is our people -- not facades or fountains, not landsacapes or lakescapes, but people -- faculty, advisory members, administration, and a host of friends," says President Dr. Tony Lei. "On the publications of WBTI through multimedia, locally, nationally, and internationally, we have featured many of our own: U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao; Governor of Nevada Kenny Guinn; U. S. Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign; U. S. Representatives James Gibbons and Shelley Berkley; Dr. Andrew Benton; Dr. Charles Runnels; Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt; Chief Federal Judge Lloyd Geroge; Attorney General Brian Sandoval (now U. S. District Court Judge); Justices of the Supreme Court William Maupin and Nancy Becker; Nevada Senator and UNLV Professor of Political Science Dina Titus; District Judges Stewart Bell, Mark Denton, Valorie Vega, Nancy Saitta, Michelle Leavitt, Jessie Walsh, Jennifer Togliatti, and Jackie Glass; Dr. E. Lee Bernick and Dr. G. Keong Leong; Mayor Oscar Goodman, Clark County Commissioner and Chairman Rory Reid; Mayor Michael Montandon, Sheriff of Southern Nevada Bill Young, Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court Michael Douglas, Ms. Wendy Yu-ping Wu, Dr. Feng-wei Lai, Nevada Assemblywoman Valerie Weber, Dr. William N. Thompson; among others (the names are written at random)." *2 "Enriching our research and community service process were made possible by these friends who joined and supported this academic institute. WBTI is really a chain of dedicated individuals who joined to research, serve, support, and to give. We take great pride of our people, including our outstanding faculty. They are some of the best in the world. We are sincere servers to help improve the quality of life of all our residents and visitors of Nevada," expresses heartily Dr. Tony Lei. "I want to thank you for my recent appointment as an Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution by Washington Business and Technology Institute. It is certainly an honor to be acknowledged by you for my commitment to serving this community. I look forward to expanding my public service by working with you and the Institute to continue to better our community. Your dedication is a wonderful example of what others should strive to accomplish," wrote LVSCP Attorney Natalie Tyrrell to Dr. Tony Lei from her Office. "I want to share with you my favoriate quote. It is by the great Winston Churchill. It exemplifies the driving force by which I start out each day. He said: 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' Thank you for this honor and the wonderful dinner celebration." Natalie is now a Justice of the Peace of the Clark County Justice Court. Community participation is an asset for enhancing public service. True leadership comes from knowing when one needs to depend on other's knowledge. Leaders are individuals who help people understand their motivations for doing things. They set the direction and understand why the direction is important. Dr. Tony Lei believes that in education leadership is a call to help others. He has the quality that inspires people to do what needs to be done and to feel good about doing it. Balanced with his outstanding academic expertise, he is a servant of God for community service, sincere and humble but not weak.*3 By loving, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. Make service a part of character and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others. Let us fan the flame of service in ever-increasing circles. With this, we can envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. District Judge of the Family Court Cheryl Moss said that, "I've remained dedicated to serving the community, and I've been inspired by the leadership, wisdom, and guidance of WBTI's Prsident Dr. Tony Lei. I recognized that Dr. Tony Lei's accomplishments have demonstrated that taking part in the community with ones kindness and selfless service can contribute excellence as well as make a difference in the society." One of the important accomplishment of Dr. Tony Lei as a famous Professor of Management is the research and findings on computer education, institutional management, and the art of leading of his three notable books entitled "Information Management", "Business Management", and " Management Behavior". "A good leader should acquire the ability of and execute the following seven management functions: 1. Planning: to plan important task project of this unit; 2. Organizing; to master the organoizational system of this unit; 3. Staffing: to recruit the appropriate staff members; 4. Directing: to direct the people on the staff of this unit; 5. Coodinating: to coordinate the benefits and conflicts of this unit in order to attain sound cooperation; 6. Representing: to reprent this unit in order to coordinate outside concerns and relationships; 7. Budgeting: to establish and control the budget of this unit; 8. Systematizing: to use management information system throuh computers and multimedia for our modern business," says Dr. Tony Lei. "There are three models of leadership that a good leader, especially the leader of an association, may emphasize: A. Creative Leadership: The leader takes the most importance of holding the great principles to develop the future endeavor of this unit. (1) Sense of Mission -- to make the members not work as a job but high degree of the "concept of value"; (2) Foresightness -- to develop the future blueprint for this unit; (3) Teamwork Spirit -- to motivate the cooperation and success of the whole group; (4) Orientation by Objectives -- to encourage all the members unit put full effort on its clear and definite objectives," continues Dr. Tony Lei. "B. Humanity Leadership: the leader emphasizes the importance of his or her relationship with the abordinates. He or she motivates their work morality and spirit. Therefore, he or she should understand, emphasize, and hold of humanity in order to promote everyone's potentiality to endeavor for this unit. The key points are: 1. Trust; 2. Delegation of authority; 3. The Second Chance Theory (to pardon your subordinate); 4. Encouragement; 5. Help and Care; 6. Support and Assistance; 7. Training and Education. "C. Democratic Leadership: The leader respects humanity and allows individual development to make his or her group members cooperate and work by division of labor with self-motion and self-revelation. Its specialties are: 1. The leader endeavors to win followers by himself or herself with good personality and emphasizes knowledge and experience as the foundation of leading. 2. Subordinates have a full opportunity to participate decisionmaking and to suggest good idea. 3. The leader puts attention to the benefit of the subordinates, understand their needs, focuses the importance of the people. 4. The leader gives only some direction on the work planning, and leave the details of the work processing to the subordinates. 5. The leader has full opportunity to participate in employees activities, and they get along with each other very well. 6. The communication between the leader and subordinates is fully in good condition, and they enjoy fruitful accomplishment with good understanding. 7. The division of labor is decided by the group and the subordinates have the right selecting their work accompanists with the direction and coordination of their leader by their side. 8. The leader evaluates the performance of his or her subordinates objectively and renders fair judgement in giving prize or punishment." "In practically, the effectiveness of the above leadership can be attained by its flexible application in accordance with the right time, place, matter, people, and objective situation, " Dr. Tony Lei points out.*4 "In righteousness you will be established."*5 "In this 21th Century new era and society, we need economic growth, but we also need to establish and promote creativity, fairness and justice, serve and love, educational knowledge, and spirit engineering. We wish that a pure spring may prosper and enrich our splendid and golden country through: the power of public service that based on 'knowledge is the power of righteouness,'; the advancement of technology, entreneurship, and innovation; and the spirit that 'knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service'," says Dr. Tony Lei. "Thank you for my recent appointment as an Associate Fellow of Public Administration and Chairperson of the Community Relations Study Committee of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. It is truly an honor to be a part of this organization, as it plays an important role in identifying, researching, and addressing the issues facing our community. Your leadership and dedication to the community are to be commended, and I look forward to working with you and the Institute in this new capacity. Thank you again for affording me this opportunity," wrote Councilwoman Lynette McDonald from her Office of the Las Vegas City Council to Dr. Tony Lei. WBTI has reported continuously the accomplishment and advancement of the members of its faculty and advisory board through publications and multimedia across Las Vegas, Nevada, California, New York, Hawaii, Washington D. C., China, Philippine, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. One of its the most important educational technology is the WBTI website at http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti brought to you by "Las Vegas Review-journal" and lasvegas.com. The presentation and publication by WBTI through multimedia in the recent twelve years have highly increased the value and status of their positions of the academic institute. In righteousness, the poeple who cares about community service by the time of her or his professionalsim will alway winning the support by the citizens here in Nevada. 555555555555555
