To build a world in the knowledge of business and economics

Eric Chen, Esq., is also a many years experienced Taiwanese merchant in China. His idea is to inspire some people to build a world in the knowledge of business and economics for China like what Dr. Charles H. C. Kao did for Taiwan.

Dr. Charles Kao (崅婓嬒 愭惗 Founder, Global Views Monthly) is former Professor & Chairman and now Honorary Professor of University of Wisconsin. "I couldn't catch up Dr. Tony Lei's dinner party at his home in Jing Ning Mansion, but I'll have coffee hour with him and others professors eventually in the party," said Dr. Kao in Taipei early in the morning one day many years ago.

Inspired by Dr. Tony Lei's many publications in business management demonstrated on the Wine Closet in the parlor, Dr. Charles Kao applaused, "Do it brightly and we may make the same excellency also. I'm interested in following Tony's creativeness to pioneer even a bigger economics and business world here soon after I come back from United States."*2

Within ten years, he established the Empire of "Tien Shia" ["The World"(The Lord) in Chinese] {Global Views Monthly} in Taiwan! His popularity and influence to the people in Taiwan have been offered him accomplishment much more than just his splendid academic title.

It is our pleasure to post "KAOS announce major gift to UW-River Falls," which was a news delivered by University of Wisconsin -River Falls:

Dr. Charles H.C. Kao and Mrs. Anne Kao have made a leader- ship pledge of $50,000 over the next five years to be used toward the accomplishment of the University's "Reach for the Future" major gifts campaign.
In announcing their gift, Dr. Kao indicated it was their wish to support three important areas of the University: faculty development, Academic Excellence Higher Education Education Scholarships, and exchange programs with Greater China.
Dr. and Mrs. Kao have been generous supporters of international programs for many years. Most recently, they were instrumental in the establishment of the Center for Pacific Rim Studies. The Center is responsible for providing opportunities for visiting professors and artists from Asia to visit the UW-River Falls campus and promoting educational exchanges between the two cultures. A portion of their gift will be used to underwrite faculty development opportunities and scholarships in the College of Arts &Sciences.
Elected as the Distinguished Professor of the Year in 1974, Dr. Kao was the chair of the department of economics from 1971-80. Since then he has devoted part of his time in Greater China (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong) involved in research, lecturing, writing and publishing. Known as a "leading thinker" in Greater China, Dr. Kao has written more than 15 books in Chinese in his field of economic policy and social thought. Two of his books were given the national prize in Taiwan. In addition to his academic activity, he has also been serving as an economic advisor to the central government there.
Mrs. Kao had a successful 25-year career with 3M Company and is currently working for IBM in Beijing as a computer systems consultant. She is very interested in international programs and cultural exchange in the arts.*3

Dr. Tony Lei transferred the education of BBA and MBA in the United States of America to Taiwan. The intellectuals who joined him were many professors, scholars, administrators, publishers, among others. All of them together, for many years, helped bring the Miracle of Economy of Taiwan realized. "Together with the successful experience of economic deveopment in Taiwan, now is the time for China to advance it even better!" said Eric Chen.

It is obvious that man or woman is himself or herself a traveler. The good purpose for mankind in this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." The service that we render to other people is really like the rent we pay for our room on this earth. We are sure that the people who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

Twenty-five centuries ago, Lao-tse, a Chinese sage, offered this profound insight;
"The reason why rivers and seas receives the homage of a hundred mountain streams is that they keep below them. Thus they are able to reign over all the mountain streams. So the sage, wishing to be above men, putteth himself below them; wishing to be before them, he putteth himself behind them. Thus, though his place be above men, they do not feel his weight; though his place be before them, they do not count it an injury."
So it is with humankind. Those who wish to yield the greatest influence will unselfishly position themselves below others, so as to serve them better.
Bruce Barton told a parable two seas in Palestine that expounds on the wisdom of Lao-tse. One sea is flesh. Fish live in it. Trees and bushes grow near it. Children splash and paly in it. The river Jordan flows into this sea with sparkling water from the hills. People build their homes near it. Every kind of life is happier because it is there. The same river Jordan flows south into another sea. Here there are no fish, no green things, no children playing, no homes a building. Stale air hangs above its waters, and neither man nor beast will drink of it. What makes the difference between these neighbor seas? Not the Jordan River. It empties the same good water into both. Nor is the soil or the countryside.
The differnece is that the Sea of Galilee receives water but does not keep it. For every drop that flows in, another drop flows out. The giving and receiving go on in equal measure. The other sea hoards its income. Every drop it gets it keeps. The Sea of Galilee lives and lives. The other sea gives nothing. It is called the Dead Sea.
There are also two kinds of people in this world---those Dead Sea people who take without giving back, and the givers who remain fresh and vibrant by freely sharing of themselves.

Community participation is an asset for enhancing public service. True leadership comes from knowing when one needs to depend on other's knowledge. Leaders are individuals who help people understand their motivations for doing things. They set the direction and understand why the direction is important. Dr. Tony Lei believes that in education leadership is a call to help others. He has the quality that inspires people to do what needs to be done and to feel good about doing it. Balanced with his outstanding academic expertise, he is a servant of God for community service, sincere and humble but not weak.*3

By loving, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. Make service a part of character and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others. Let us fan the flame of service in ever-increasing circles. With this, we can envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. District Judge of the Family Court Cheryl Moss said that, "I've remained dedicated to serving the community, and I've been inspired by the leadership, wisdom, and guidance of WBTI's Prsident Dr. Tony Lei. I recognized that Dr. Tony Lei's accomplishments have demonstrated that taking part in the community with ones kindness and selfless service can contribute excellence as well as make a difference in the society."

One of the important accomplishment of Dr. Tony Lei as a famous Professor of Management is the research and findings on computer education, institutional management, and the art of leading of his three notable books entitled "Information Management", "Business Management", and " Management Behavior". "A good leader should acquire the ability of and execute the following seven management functions: 1. Planning: to plan important task project of this unit; 2. Organizing; to master the organoizational system of this unit; 3. Staffing: to recruit the appropriate staff members; 4. Directing: to direct the people on the staff of this unit; 5. Coodinating: to coordinate the benefits and conflicts of this unit in order to attain sound cooperation; 6. Representing: to reprent this unit in order to coordinate outside concerns and relationships; 7. Budgeting: to establish and control the budget of this unit; 8. Systematizing: to use management information system throuh computers and multimedia for our modern business," says Dr. Tony Lei.

"There are three models of leadership that a good leader, especially the leader of an association, may emphasize: A. Creative Leadership: The leader takes the most importance of holding the great principles to develop the future endeavor of this unit. (1) Sense of Mission -- to make the members not work as a job but high degree of the "concept of value"; (2) Foresightness -- to develop the future blueprint for this unit; (3) Teamwork Spirit -- to motivate the cooperation and success of the whole group; (4) Orientation by Objectives -- to encourage all the members unit put full effort on its clear and definite objectives," continues Dr. Tony Lei.

"B. Humanity Leadership: the leader emphasizes the importance of his or her relationship with the abordinates. He or she motivates their work morality and spirit. Therefore, he or she should understand, emphasize, and hold of humanity in order to promote everyone's potentiality to endeavor for this unit. The key points are: 1. Trust; 2. Delegation of authority; 3. The Second Chance Theory (to pardon your subordinate);

The leader has full opportunity to participate in employees activities, and they get along with each other very well. 6. The communication between the leader and subordinates is fully in good condition, and they enjoy fruitful accomplishment with good understanding. 7. The division of labor is decided by the group and the subordinates have the right selecting their work accompanists with the direction and coordination of their leader by their side. 8. The leader evaluates the performance of his or her subordinates objectively and renders fair judgement in giving prize or punishment."

"In practically, the effectiveness of the above leadership can be attained by its flexible application in accordance with the right time, place, matter, people, and objective situation, " Dr. Tony Lei points out.*4

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek roots en and theos and means "God within." It is a fire, a passion within. Real enthusiasm is not something you "put on" and "take off " to fit the occasion. It is a way of life.
Apparently Theodore Roosevelt possessed that kind of passionate lifestyle. In 1883, according to Bernard Levin, writing in Enthusiasms (Crown Publishers), Roosevelt went buffalo hunting in the Badlands of South Dakota with a single companion, Joe Ferris. They nearly died of thirst, and they slept on the ground, saddles their only pillows. One night wolves caused their horses to bolt, and it took some time for the
fleeing beasts to be recaptured. The men went back to sleep; it began to rain heavily and they awoke, finding themselves lying in four inches of water. Shivering between sodden blankets, Ferris heard Teddy Roosevelt exclaim, "By Godfrey, but this is fun!"
Now that's enthusiasm!*2

The Summer 2003 Symposium of WBTI was held at the Zax Restaurant of Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel on May 19, 2003 in Las Vegas. The theme of the mini symposium was: The Entrepreneurship of MPA/SME Certificates Program for the people of English and Chinese Speaking.*1

I wish to serve as a director because: I (Dr. Tony Lei) will offer my endeavor, knowledge, and ability to carry out the duties for the rights and benefits of the homeowners and residents here in our community. WASHINGTON -- In a suite steps from the U.S. Senate floor, carpenters had just finished hanging an oil painting of Rafael Rivera, the pioneer scout who in 1830 became the first non-Indian to set eyes on the Las Vegas Valley.

Portraits of Mark Twain and Harry Truman already were hung in place. In a reception area, two movers carefully set down a love seat. In the next room, workers had pulled up carpet to expose intricate, 150-year old English-crafted tile that lay hidden underfoot.

For the fourth time in the past six years, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., was moving to ornate new quarters in the Capitol, as he prepared to begin the 109th Congress today as Senate minority leader.

Landra Reid, the senator's wife, directed room designers who were positioning furniture and hanging pictures in the six-room suite. Chairs pushed to a corner of the room waited to be moved into place.

Amid the commotion, Reid sat at his desk in a quiet corner, marking the first morning in his new office by reviewing paperwork and preparing for a conference later this week. A stack of books was perched on the edge of the desk, waiting to be shelved.

"This is much like my old office, so I feel right at home here," he said.

When the Senate convenes, Reid, 65 will be recognized as minority leader, a post Democrats awarded him by unanimous vote in November. He also will be sworn in to a fourth six-year term as a Nevada senator, after winning re-election in the fall.

Reid's wife, several of his children and a handful of friends will be looking down from the visitors gallery as he renews the oath of office. Reid said he was looking beyond the day of ceremony to when Democrats will begin working later in the week.

"My big day is Wednesday, when we will have our issues retreat," Reid said. Democrats will gather for a conference at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Preparing for the upcoming Senate session, Reid said he and Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., have reached a tentative deal on budgeting and staffing for senators' committees.

Reid also said he and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., are discussing the possibility of delivering speeches to promote Democrats' views on major issues in advance of President Bush delivering his State of the Union message late this month or early in February.

In the meantime, to mark Reid's promotion, Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., planned to host a breakfast at her Capitol Hill home for him and 75 guests today, including Nevadans in Washington and representatives of the gaming, mining and travel industries.

Later in the day, major corporations and trade groups were planning a reception for Reid at Charlie Palmer Steak, a restaurant near the Capitol that is popular with lobbyists.

Companies that paid a minimum $5,000 to be listed as hosts included wine and spirits company Allied Domecq, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Citigroup, Comcast, Ernst & Young, Ford Motor Co., the Mortgage Bankers Association, Sony Corp., the National Beer Wholesalers Association and SBC.

The opening day of Congress usually is marked by revelry, but this one figures to be a low-key affair for other Nevada lawmakers who were re-elected in November. None were planning celebrations, according to aides.

Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., will be sworn in to the House for the fifth time, while Berkley will begin a fourth term. Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., will begin a second term.

Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., will begin the fourth year of a six-year term in office. He is up for re-election in 2006.

Reid inherited the new suite from departed Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota, who lost his re-election bid. It is on the Capitol's second floor, across a hallway from the Senate chamber, allowing him quick access to floor proceedings.

"The importance of its location cannot be undervalued," according to a description of the rooms and their history compiled by the Senate curator.

Reid had become familiar to Senate movers in recent years. As he assumed different leadership positions, he was in and out of four other offices in the Capitol.

The latest office, part of a wing that was built between 1851 and 1857, looks out over the National Mall. A spacious patio offers views of the Smithsonian, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
