WEEKLY WRAP-UP

JIM GIBBONS WINS REPUBLICAN PRIMARY
Time to unify to take on Titus

Jim Gibbons won the Republican primary for Governor on Tuesday night and became the nominee to take on the liberal senator Dina Titus in this November’s general election.

We wish to thank the thousands of people who believed in Jim and gave him your support and vote. Many of you worked tirelessly, volunteering your valuable time to help make our victory possible. You helped us at our campaign headquarters, and joined us as we rallied for Jim at parades, festivals, rodeos and fairs across Nevada.

Without your help, we could not run an effective and winning campaign.

Jim Gibbons has talked with both Senator Bob Beers and Lieutenant Governor Lorraine Hunt. He thanked them for a spirited campaign and offered to continue working with them as we unify our Republican ticket for the general election. As Jim regularly stated throughout the primary campaign, he has great admiration for them both and deeply appreciates their service to Nevada. We hope all those who worked so hard to help their respective campaigns will now join our team so we can together win in November.

To join the Gibbons Ground Crew and be part of this historic election in November, please contact our southern Nevada headquarters at (702) 987-3279, or our northern Nevada headquarters at (775) 322-4546

RNC Chairman congratulates Gibbons on primary victory

Wednesday, August 16, 2006 Statement By RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman On Jim Gibbons’ Primary Election Victory Contact: Tucker Bounds (202) 863-8614

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Ken Mehlman issued the following statement regarding U.S. Representative Jim Gibbons’ primary election victory for Nevada Governor:

“Congressman Jim Gibbons is a straight talker who understands a low tax burden and effective reforms help keep Nevada’s economy strong and government services dependable. Jim is a known leader who will balance the books, focus on job creation, and work to bridge the gaps between rural, urban and suburban Nevada. The Republican Party looks forward to working with Rep. Gibbons to ensure that Nevada keeps moving forward and responsible leadership remains at the helm this November.”

Gibbons receives another endorsement in campaign for Governor

Medical Group pledges strong support for Republican candidate

Jim Gibbons has received another important endorsement in his campaign for Governor. The Nevada Medical Political Action Committee (NEMPAC) has unanimously endorsed Gibbons’ candidacy, citing his strong and consistent support for medical malpractice liability reform both at the state and federal levels.

Unfortunately, Dina Titus has spent her entire political career voting lock-step with the wishes of the trial lawyers. As Nevadans faced a crisis of doctors leaving our state due to out-of- control liability insurance premiums – particularly in the OB/GYN field – Dina turned her back on them. She has been an ardent opponent of denying Nevada’s doctors and other health care professionals with the necessary reforms to help keep them practicing in Nevada.

Jim Gibbons has also received the endorsement of Keep Our Doctors in Nevada (KODIN) in his gubernatorial campaign. KODIN helped lead the fight to pass Question 3 in the 2004 election which provided some necessary medical liability reforms in Nevada. That ballot initiative passed with overwhelming, bi-partisan support.

Governor Mitt Romney congratulates Gibbons on primary victory

RGA Chairman calls Gibbons an ‘experienced leader’ for Nevada

WASHINGTON, Aug. 16 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Republican Governors Association (RGA) Chairman Mitt Romney (Mass.) congratulates U.S. Congressman Jim Gibbons on becoming the Republican gubernatorial nominee in Nevada. Gibbons will face the Democratic nominee in the November general election.

“Jim Gibbons is an experienced leader ready to serve the people of Nevada. I congratulate him on his nomination,” said RGA Chairman Mitt Romney (Mass.). "Nevada is one of the fastest growing states in the country, and Jim Gibbons' ideas and initiatives are sure to build on Governor Guinn's legacy.”

Romney went on to say, “From transportation to taxes and education, Gibbons has a well thought out agenda for the future of the state.”

The RGA was founded in 1963 and serves as the official political organization of America's Republican Governors. There are currently 28 Republican Governors representing more than 60 percent of the nation's population. In November, 36 gubernatorial contests will be decided.

GIBBONS’ CLIPS

Gibbons is “a solid favorite to win the general election.

- Jon Ralston, 8/18/06, Las Vegas Sun and IN-BUSINESS LAS VEGAS columnist

Gibbons- won in a landslide with 48 percent of the Republican vote. State Sen. Bob Beers took 29 percent, while Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt managed just 18 percent.

"I know we have a lot of work to do, but we've done it in the primary and we'll do it in the general election," Gibbons told supporters.

He also issued a plea for unity among party members, saying he hoped to work with his opponents to defeat Democrats for all offices, not just governor.

"I know it's going to take some healing, but I want to reach out to my opponents and work toward that healing."

- Las Vegas Review Journal, 8/16/06 - Las Vegas Review Journal, 8/16/06

Gibbons, a five-term Reno congressman led state Sen. Bob Beers, an anti-tax advocate from Las Vegas, by 19 percentage points. Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt trailed with 18 percent of the 71,000 Republican votes counted.

Gibbons said he planned to 'mend fences' with Hunt and Beers, who both had lobbed attacks on his fiscal conservative credentials in the weeks leading up to the primary to select a successor to term-limited Republican Gov. Kenny Guinn, who did not endorse any of the candidates.

'I'll lead the fight into November,' Gibbons said. 'The message is clear. (Voters) are very interested in seeing government spending kept under control, taxes kept low and yet we have to provide those essential government services.'

- Associated Press, 8/15/06

Gibbons, a Republican, has been Nevada's 2nd Congressional District representative for the past 10 years and served as a Reno assemblyman for six years before that.

"It's not surprising," David Damore, a political science professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas said about the results. "But in the general election, you'd have to lean toward Gibbons since this state tends to lean Republican.

Gibbons also should have an advantage with money raised. He boasted a $4 million campaign war chest, according to campaign finance reports filed with the state last week. Titus reported $1.8 million in campaign contributions but has about $200,000 remaining after the primary.

Gibbons, born and raised in Sparks, says he knows Nevada better than any other candidate. He was educated in Nevada, receiving a bachelor's in geology and a master's in mining from the University of Nevada, Reno. He also has a law degree from Southwestern University.

"I have just a tremendous number of years knowing, living and learning about Nevada," Gibbons said. His political career includes three terms in the state Assembly and nearly a decade in Congress.

Gibbons is a former combat pilot who fought in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf War. After four years in the U.S. Air Force, Gibbons spent 22 years in the Nevada Air National Guard, retiring as a colonel, and two years in the Air Force Reserve.

- Reno Gazette-Journal, 8/16/06 Reno Gazette- Journal, 8/16/06

One candidate for governor is a twangy-tongued Southerner with an acid wit and a program for education, health care, energy and the environment. The other is a snow-haired fighter pilot from Sparks with a resume and a promise to hold the line on taxes and spending.

Las Vegas Sun, 8/16/06

Gibbons campaign manager Robert Uithoven said Gibbons was ready and willing to debate and would request that debates be held in Las Vegas, Reno and Elko.

Titus, a longtime state senator from Las Vegas who is also a political science professor, defeated Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson in Tuesday's primary, winning 53 percent of the vote to Gibson's 36 percent.

Gibbons, a congressman from Reno, also won by a large margin. He had 48 percent of the Republican vote, whereas state Sen. Bob Beers had 29 percent and Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt had 18 percent.

At this early date, Gibbons must be considered the favorite, said University of Nevada, Reno, political scientist Eric Herzik.

"Gibbons didn't have to spend all his money in the primary; Dina did," Herzik said. "But Dina's a very aggressive campaigner. Gibbons is going to have to not make any mistakes."

Titus' campaign is in difficult financial straits. As of Aug. 3, Gibbons had about $1.8 million on hand, whereas Titus had just $180,000. "Dina's going to have to raise a lot of money, and I don't know where she's going to get it," Herzik said.

Titus threatens Unger staffer on voicemail

This voicemail to a staffer for the Bob Unger (lieutenant governor) campaign was sent late last night to media from the Gibson for Governor. The voice is supposed to be that of Dina Titus. WEEKLY WRAP-UP

VOTE FOR GIBBONS THIS TUESDAY, August 15th!

Now into the final weekend before Primary Election Day, we remind our friends and supporters that we can only win with your vote! We maintain a strong lead, but are actively campaigning to ensure that Jim Gibbons is the Republican nominee for Governor of Nevada.

Early voting has ended across Nevada, and we encourage all Republican who have not yet voted to get to the polls on Tuesday to support the strongest, most qualified candidate to send to the general election in November – Jim Gibbons. Every poll shows that Jim Gibbons is the best Republican candidate to win against any Democrat in the general election.

Last night’s final primary debate showed all Nevada voters that Jim Gibbons is ready to serve as our next Governor. He has the experience and leadership to continue moving our state forward.

Despite the tag-teaming attacks from the other candidates, Gibbons remained respectful of his primary opponents.

Gibbons began the debate by asking “Bob and Lorraine” to join with him in pledging to elect a conservative Republican as governor, regardless of which of them wins the primary election.

On a night when the three were being disagreeable, the question was ignored.

* Ed Vogel, Las Vegas Review-Journal, 8-12- 06

(Gibbons) said Hunt and Beers “are both good Republicans. They are good people.”

“Sure, they are both trying to punch holes in my years of service to Nevadans. But my core beliefs are absolutely unassailable. I'm proud of my record as a fighter pilot in the Gulf War, where I faced hostile enemy fire much more intense, much more real, than the negative ads my opponents are throwing at me,” he said.

* Scott Sonner, Associated Press, 8-12- 06

To correct the record, Bob-

Bob Beers wrong on Gibbons’ record

Last night, Bob Beers was wrong on several occasions during the debate sponsored by the Reno Gazette-Journal and KRNV News 4. But we’ll just focus on one critically important point – taxes. We trust that Bob Beers will accept the truth, and tell the truth, in the final days of the campaign.

Beers says: "-You’re going to hear Jim say he’s voted against 200 some-odd tax hikes, or taxes, or voted for tax reductions. They don’t pass though.”

TRUTH: Jim Gibbons indeed has voted over 250 times to reduce taxes on all Nevada’s hardworking taxpayers - and many of those votes have lead to not only significant tax reductions, but they have provided the economic strength we enjoy today.

Jim Gibbons’ tax votes have provided Marriage Penalty tax relief, Capital Gains tax relief, Death Tax relief, Marginal Rates tax relief on your income taxes, increases in families’ per-child tax credits, small business tax relief, and the ability for Nevadans to deduct their sales taxes when filing federal income tax forms- among many, many more.

The hunt for Hunt - just in case you missed it!

And she says Gibbons has been absent?

JIM GIBBONS: A record of reliability, dependability and trustworthiness for all Nevadans

Jim Gibbons has been honored and privileged to represent Nevadans in all 17 counties during his public career. He is a highly-decorated war hero; serving in our nation’s military for 29 years and seeing combat in both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars.

As we approach this critical election, Jim Gibbons once again asks for your trust, confidence and support- and your vote.

While Jim’s background and experiences are quite different from those of his Republican opponents, he certainly maintains his deep respect and appreciation for their service to Nevada.

Jim Gibbons has had three very tough primary campaigns in his career, and he has been fortunate to win them all. As you prepare to vote in the 2006 Republican primary, please consider these facts about Gibbons’ career of service to the great people of our state.

• Jim Gibbons was named “Outstanding Freshman” legislator during his first term in the Nevada State Legislature.

• Jim Gibbons authored and helped pass the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative – which amended Nevada’s Constitution to require a 2/3 supermajority vote to raise our taxes.

• Jim Gibbons has over a 90 percent lifetime rating from the respected American Conservative Union, and he has been consistantly named a “Hero of the Taxpayer” by Americans for Tax Reform.

• Jim Gibbons has voted over 250 times in Congress to reduce taxes on Nevada’s hardworking taxpayers.

• Jim Gibbons has voted to cut over $24 BILLION of excessive federal spending in this current session of Congress alone. He has voted to cut billions of dollars more of wasteful spending throughout his 5 terms serving Nevadans.

• Jim Gibbons has over a 96 percent lifetime voting attendance record in Congress, and over a 92 percent voting attendance record in the current session of Congress.

• Jim Gibbons remains a strong family man, even while balancing his job representing us in Congress and while running a statewide campaign. Over half the votes he has missed this term occurred while he and his family celebrated their youngest son’s high school graduation.

• Jim Gibbons has never voted to increase his taxpayer-funded salary, and he has supported legislation that denies all pay raises until the federal budget is balanced.

• Jim Gibbons was recently rated by a non-partisan, independent congressional watchdog organization as being the 20th most effective Member of Congress when it comes to passing legislation. That is 20 out of 435 Members! And, consider that 213 of those members of Congress have served longer than Jim.

This is Jim Gibbons’ record. These are facts that Republican voters are proud of. These are facts to that have earned Gibbons the strong, overwhelming support he has received from Nevadans in each of his re-election efforts. These are facts that will allow Jim Gibbons to take on the Democratic nominee in November -and WIN!

Please consider these facts as you vote for the next Republican nominee for Governor of Nevada.

WEEKLY WRAP-UP

Gibbons proves he is best qualified to lead Nevada

Last night, Jim Gibbons proved without question that he is ready to lead Nevada as our next Governor.

First, Jim Gibbons and his entire campaign team and Gibbons Ground Crew wish to thank the many volunteers and supporters who showed up to the debate rally last night. Everyone enjoyed the barbecue, watching the debate from the studio grounds, and cheering on Jim Gibbons after the debate concluded.

While Bob Beers and Lorraine Hunt continued their tag-teaming tactics of one desperate attack after another, Jim Gibbons remained the battle-tested, mature and trusted leader that Nevadans from all 17 counties have elected and overwhelmingly re-elected throughout his career.

See the story on last night’s debate hosted by public television in Nevada along with the Las Vegas Review-Journal here:

http://www.reviewjournal. com/lvrj_home/2006/Aug-05-Sat- 2006/news/8904970.html

Gibbons is running on his record while Bob Beers is running away from his

Jim Gibbons was named “Outstanding Freshman” legislator in his first term serving in Nevada’s state legislature.

Jim Gibbons authored and helped pass the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative, requiring a 2/3-supermajority vote of politicians to raise our taxes.

Jim Gibbons has voted 250 times in Congress to reduce our taxes.

Jim Gibbons has voted to cut more than $24 BILLION of excessive federal spending in this session of Congress alone.

Jim Gibbons has consistently earned the “Hero of the Taxpayer” award from the respected American for Tax Reform group.

Jim Gibbons maintains over a 90 percent lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union.

Jim Gibbons is a homegrown Nevada war hero, an experienced and trusted leader, and a strong family man.

Bob Beers-

Bob Beers has one message in his campaign- and that is that Bob Beers spends too much of your tax dollars and cannot be trusted as an elected representative of the people.

Bob Beers complains of the rate of government growth- but did you know:

Bob Beers voted in his first legislative session in 1999, as a member of the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, for every single state spending budget bill.

Bob Beers voted in 2001, still as a member of Ways and Means, for every single state spending budget bill.

Bob Beers, that same year, suggested that Nevada’s taxpayers should have their property taxes increased.

Bob Beers decided during the massive tax increases of 2003 that politician in Carson City needed to be rewarded for their work with a 15% taxpayer-funded pay increase.

Bob Beers voted just last session, as a member of the Senate Finance Committee, for every state spending budget bill.

Bob Beers now tells the voters that politicians like himself cannot be trusted when it comes to spending your hard-earned taxpayers dollars.

On this, we agree. Voters cannot trust Bob Beers when it comes to how he votes to spend our tax dollars. It is a record that he is not proud of, and that is why he is not willing to discuss it.

Gibbons gains more support from Nevada law enforcement

Jim Gibbons has already been endorsed in his campaign for Governor by the Peace Officers Research Association of Nevada (PORAN), the Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies Association (WCSDA), the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), and the Nevada Corrections Association (NCA).

This week, Gibbons just earned another law enforcement endorsement. The Carson City Sheriff’s Protective Association has added their support to Jim Gibbons for Governor, further proving that when it comes to protecting Nevada’s families and communities, nobody is more qualified than Jim Gibbons.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Protective Association consists of 72 deputies who all work to keep our state capital safe for those who reside and travel there.

Gibbons reports raising $4 million
Campaign fundraising reports due Aug. 8
By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Republican Rep. Jim Gibbons has raised just under $4 million for his campaign for governor, including about $1.3 million in contributions since January, according to a preliminary report obtained Friday by The Associated Press.

Gibbons has spent almost half what he's taken in and has about $2 million in cash on hand as early voting begins, his campaign said.

Gibbons collected about 20 percent of his funds this period from the gambling industry. About 17 percent was donated by developers and construction companies, and 15 percent came from physicians and the pharmaceutical and health care industry, the campaign said.

Gibbons, R-Reno, had promised in February to release an early draft of his report, as part of a call for more transparent campaign finance reporting. Candidates are not required to file final reports with the secretary of state until Aug. 8, one week before the primary, but 10 days after early voting begins.

"It is Jim Gibbons' belief that voters should be able to see who is funding each candidate's campaign before voting," campaign manager Robert Uithoven said.

Gibbons entered the reporting period out front in the money race, having raised $2.3 million and rolled over $317,000 from his congressional campaign fund.

The preliminary report shows a $5,000 contribution from KVBC Valley Broadcasting, owned by University Chancellor Jim Rogers. Rogers, who initially questioned Gibbons' intelligence, has said he was persuaded to give to Gibbons after the congressman pledged to collaborate on education issues.

Lance Gilman, a Reno-based developer and brothel owner, also gave $5,000 to the Republican congressman.

State Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno, gave $1,000 from his Senate campaign committee. Raggio has said he has not taken sides in Gibbons' race against state Sen. Bob Beers and Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt.

Gibbons also found support from Sen. Mark Amodei, R-Carson City, and Sen. Randolph Townsend, R-Reno.

Gibbons received the maximum contribution of $10,000 from several casino interests, including Treasure Island, Bellagio, New York-New York, The Mirage and MGM Grand casinos, as well as neighborhood casino giant Boyd Gaming. Affiliates of Golden Gaming pitched in $30,000. Wynn Resorts gave $5,000.

Mining interests Barrick Goldstrike and Placer Dome Inc. contributed a combined $12,000.

No other candidates released their financial report in advance of the deadline.

Subject: Another day, another delay ... for Bob Beers

August 1, 2006

DAY 4 OF VOTING: Gibbons shows funds;
Beers plays with sock puppets
Voters want to know, Mr. Beers, who is funding your coordinated attacks with Democratic Party against Gibbons?

(Nevada) – Today, Nevada Republican candidate for Governor Jim Gibbons again called on Bob Beers to release his list of contributors so voters can see who is funding his coordinated attacks with the Democratic Party against Gibbons. This is now the fourth day of early voting in the primary election and Beers continues his campaign gimmicks while making excuses for not informing voters.

Gibbons released his up-to-date contribution report last Friday, the day before early voting began in the 2006 primary election, honoring a commitment he made last February to do so. He has called on all gubernatorial candidates to do the same.

“Bob Beers, liberal democratic columnists and the Nevada Democratic Party are working together to attack Jim Gibbons for one simple reason - they know he is the strongest Republican candidate to win the general election,” stated Robert Uithoven, Gibbons’ campaign manager. “Republican voters in Nevada should ask three simple questions:

Why would a liberal Democrat columnist with the Las Vegas Review-Journal endorse Bob Beers in the Republican Primary? The columnist says, “Republicans should vote for Beers,” in the very same column she endorses a Democrat candidate, writing, “I want a Democrat to run the state”? Interesting.
Why is it that the Nevada Democratic Party is sending e-mails to their liberal friends and donors asking that they help get Bob Beers’ anti-Jim Gibbons message out to the voters in this primary election?
Why is Bob Beers claiming to be a fiscal conservative when he voted just last year during the 2005 legislative session for more than $13.5 BILLION of future debt on Nevada’s taxpayers, managing – somehow – to outspend Dina Titus by $139 MILLION?

“Voters have the right to know who is funding each campaign’s operations before, rather than after they take to the polls,” continued Uithoven.

Gibbons endorsed by Nevada physician group

This week, Jim Gibbons earned the endorsement of the influential Nevada physician group Keep Our Doctors In Nevada (KODIN) in this year’s election for Governor. The group, led by Dr. Rudy Manthei, pointed to Gibbons’ strong support for medical liability reform and other issues important to doctors and patients in Nevada.

“Congressman Gibbons is strongly supported by the physician community of Nevada because he understands the complex issues surrounding quality healthcare and because he is a fierce champion of tort reform measures, a fact that is clear to any person who reviews his record in this area,” stated Dr. Manthei.

Gibbons calls on other gubernatorial candidates to release their contributions report

Yesterday, Jim Gibbons honored his pledge to release his contributions report prior to the time Nevadans take to the polls to cast their votes. Unfortunately, the four other major candidates, including both in the Republican primary, refuse to show the voters of Nevada who is funding their campaigns.

“Nevada’s voters deserve open government, and open campaigns,” stated Gibbons. “I took the lead by showing who has been funding my campaign and hope others follow my example. Throughout my public career, I have put my 100 percent trust into the voters of Nevada. That trust can only be returned if we keep our campaigns and government functioning as openly as possible.”

“My contributions show the very strong and diverse support I have gained in my campaign for Governor,” Gibbons continued. “From north and south, rural and urban, various industries and numerous individual donors, my campaign report proves that I am not beholden to anybody but the best interests of Nevada’s taxpayers.”

Thus far, Gibbons’ call for other candidates to show their reports has been ignored- despite the fact that voters are taking to the polls today.

Gibbons continues proving his effectiveness in Congress

This week, Jim Gibbons and his colleagues in Nevada’s congressional delegation were able to pass legislation to transfer the Truckee- Carson Irrigation District (TCID) headquarters in Churchill County. One of the leading backers of the bill had this to say of Gibbons’ efforts in getting this legislation to the President’s desk for signature:

“Congressman Jim Gibbons, R- NV, drafted the original language of the bill and he was able to get his language passed twice," said TCID President Ernie Schank. "Without his leadership, this would not be a reality today.”

Jim Gibbons begins running television ads statewide

This week, Jim Gibbons went on television with positive messages to point out his years of experience and leadership for Nevada. The ads are positive and point to Jim’s unique background that best qualifies him to serve as Nevada’s next Governor.

One ad also focuses on his efforts in authoring and helping pass the Education First Initiative on the Nevada ballot in 2004. The initiative will be on the ballot again this November, and makes sure Carson City lawmakers never hold our kids’ education hostage to a tax increase again-as they did in 2003.

Jim was born and raised in Nevada. He was educated in Nevada, and has worked in both the public and private sectors in our great state. He married in Nevada and has raised his family in here. Jim began working at the age of 13, and he has worked ever since, oftentimes in multiple jobs.

Gibbons is the only candidate running for Governor who has served our nation in uniform, having spent 29 years as a highly decorated combat pilot in the U.S. Air Force, the Nevada Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves. He is currently the only Member of Congress to have served in both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. Jim retired from the military with the rank of Colonel in 1997.

You can view all three of his ads by going to our web site: http://GibbonsF orNevada.com

TRUTH on Jim Gibbons

Recently, some major distortions about Jim Gibbons and his record have been put out by those who do not want to see Jim win the Republican Primary. For the record, here is the Truth about Jim Gibbons’ record:

Jim Gibbons was named an “Outstanding Freshman” as a first-term Assemblyman in 1989.

Jim Gibbons authored and helped pass the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative – which became an amendment to our Nevada Constitution requiring a 2/3-supermajority vote of state politicians to raise our taxes. In Congress, he has voted six times to make this a federal requirement, as well.

As a Member of Congress, Jim Gibbons voted for the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (HR 2015, Roll No. 241, June 25, 1997).

Throughout his ten-year career in Congress, Jim Gibbons has voted nearly 250 times to reduce the tax burden on Nevada’s taxpayers.

Jim Gibbons has never drafted or voted in favor of legislation to increase his pay. In fact, he has voted consistently throughout his congressional career to oppose efforts to increase his pay.

Jim Gibbons has consistently been named “Hero of the Taxpayer” by the Americans for Tax Reform; maintains over a 90- percent lifetime score from the American Conservative Union; and has received dozens of awards from various pro-business, pro-taxpayer organizations.

Jim Gibbons’ Weekend Events

Last night, Jim Gibbons attended the annual Pioneer Days barbeque in North Las Vegas. The event was great, the food was fantastic, and the people were excited about the Gibbons campaign. A special thanks to those who signed up to join our Gibbons Ground Crew volunteer force.

This morning, Jim Gibbons attended the Pioneer Day Pancake Breakfast and the Pioneer Days Parade. Thank you to the volunteers and supporters who attended, as well as all Nevada residents who braved the heat and humidity to participate in the events.

This afternoon, Jim Gibbons was in Fallon where he attended the Guazzini Family Picnic to meet with supporters and voters in Churchill County.

Gibbons earns an “A” from the NRA
National Rifle Association gives Republican candidate highest rating; Cites Gibbons’ consistent record of protecting Nevada’s gun owners

(Nevada) Republican candidate for Governor Jim Gibbons has earned a perfect “A” rating from the respected National Rifle Association (NRA) Political Victory Fund. This score clearly defines Gibbons as “solidly pro-gun” and is based on his voting record in Congress, as well as feedback the NRA received from in-state grassroots activists.

“As a hunter and gun collector, I am honored to be recognized by the NRA for my strong and consistent advocacy on behalf of all Nevada gun-owners,” stated Gibbons. “My ‘A’ rating reflects not only what I have done to protect the Constitutional Rights granted to our hunters and gun collectors, but that I have pledged to continue my efforts as Nevada’s next Governor.”

While this particular rating notice is not to be construed as an official campaign endorsement, it is used in the NRA’s General Election Political Preference Chart. Tens of thousands of Nevada citizens are currently members of the NRA.

Fraternal Order of Police in Nevada endorses Gibbons for Governor

Group adds to Gibbons’ endorsements from law enforcement

(Nevada) Republican candidate for Governor Jim Gibbons has been endorsed by the Nevada State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), gaining him his fourth significant law enforcement endorsement of the campaign. The FOP cites Gibbons’ strong record of support for Nevada’s law enforcement both in his previous role as a state legislator and in his current position as a Member of Congress.

"Jim Gibbons has been a true friend of law enforcement in Nevada. He is committed to keeping our neighborhoods and communities safe, and he has proven it in both the Nevada State Legislature and the U.S. Congress. On behalf of over 1,100 members of the Fraternal Order of Police in Nevada, I am honored to announce our endorsement of Jim Gibbons for Governor."

- Ed Howard, President of the Nevada State Lodge, Fraternal Order of Police

“I am extremely honored to receive the endorsement from Nevada’s Fraternal Order of Police. There is no greater responsibility for government than to protect its citizens. I have worked hard throughout my public career to ensure that our law enforcement has the necessary tools, training and personnel to accomplish this goal. As Governor, I will continue working to see that our citizens are as safe and secure as possible from crime.

- Jim Gibbons

Jim Gibbons has also been endorsed by the Police Officers Research Association of Nevada (PORAN), the Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies Association and the Nevada Corrections Association. The FOP endorsement comes just weeks after Gibbons interviewed with the group to discuss his record of supporting law enforcement, as well as his plans to continue supporting all law enforcement as Nevada’s next Governor.

Gibbons endorsed by Nevada’s Citizens for Responsible Government

This week, Jim Gibbons picked up another key endorsement in his campaign for governor. Nevada’s Citizens for Responsible Government pointed to Jim’s leadership in keeping our taxes low throughout his nearly two-decades of public service as a primary consideration in their endorsement of Jim Gibbons for Governor. Here is a statement from John M. Sanford, Chairman of Citizens for Responsible Government:

“Jim Gibbons has been fighting for low taxes and fiscal discipline for nearly 20 years. His advocacy for responsible and accountable government, both as a state legislator and U.S. Congressman, has earned him the endorsement of Citizens for Responsible Government. Nevada’s workers, taxpayers and families will be well served when Jim Gibbons is elected our next Governor.”

Gibbons to participate in House Homeland Security Committee trip to Canada

As a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Jim Gibbons continues working hard for the taxpayers who elected him to Congress. On Sunday, Gibbons begins a two-day trip to Toronto, Canada to assess the recent arrests of individuals who plotted to bomb government and media buildings. He, along with other members of the committee, will meet with Canadian officials, such as local law enforcement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service to discuss their successful prevention of the planned terrorist attack.

GIBBONS EARNS AN “A” FROM THE NRA!

Jim Gibbons also just received an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) Political Victory Fund. Jim’s “solidly pro-gun” rating is based on his voting record while serving in the U.S. Congress, as well as on the responses provided in the NRA’s candidate profile. The rating also takes into account information and recommendations from Nevada-based, grassroots activists.

Last weekend, the Gibbons Ground Crew attended the Las Vegas Gun Show at Cashman Center in Las Vegas to hand out brochures and flyers, Gibbons campaign stickers, and guns (water guns, of course). Hunters, gun owners and collectors clearly have a friend in Jim Gibbons and look forward to electing him Governor of Nevada.

Las Vegas Review-Journal profiles GOP gubernatorial frontrunner Jim Gibbons

On Monday, July 3rd, the Las Vegas Review-Journal published a profile of Congressman and GOP gubernatorial frontrunner Jim Gibbons. Some excerpts from the story include:

Born in Sparks to a father who was a ditch-digger for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Gibbons' life reads as a traditional Republican up-by- his-bootstraps tale, one in which education plays a central role.

***

Gibbons' mother was also an inspiration: a strong-willed woman who raised six boys, ran a business in the days when women seldom did so, and ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Sparks. Gibbons credits her with planting the seed in his mind of serving the community through elected office.

***

Air Force Maj. Gen. Ron J. Bath, a friend of Gibbons since college who served with him in the 1991 Gulf War, said Gibbons was a "natural aviator" who inspired admiration in his military colleagues.

"He had what we call 'air savvy' -- he could see that jet in three dimensions," Bath said. "He really stood out in the Gulf War. He always took the hardest missions, and he never turned down a mission.

***

The guy in front always has the most arrows in his back. Gibbons has been the target of everyone's attacks in the campaign thus far, but it's hard to see how he could lose in November, much less in August, when the primary is held.

Insiders finally embrace outsider
Gibbons is leader in race for governor
By MOLLY BALL
REVIEW-JOURNAL

[[[Jim Gibbons]]]

Editor's note: The following is the last in a series of profiles of Nevada's major gubernatorial candidates. More profiles.

In 2003, Jim Gibbons took to the floor of the state Legislature and, in front of a startled Gov. Kenny Guinn, denounced Guinn's planned budget.

Guinn never has forgiven him for the incident, which the governor took as a sucker-punch. The rift between the two men illustrates much about the differences between Nevada's governor for the past eight years and the candidate currently considered his most likely replacement.

Gibbons faces state Sen. Bob Beers and Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt in the Republican primary for the gubernatorial nomination.

As the front-runner in the race for governor, Gibbons is attracting the bulk of the money and support from the political establishment, from gaming bigwigs like MGM Mirage CEO Terry Lanni to the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.

Although the election of Guinn, who never had held an elected office before, was famously engineered by those powerful interests, that's where the similarity ends.

For most of his career, Gibbons was an outsider to the state's power structure, intent on going his own way, often frustrating the political establishment with his successes. It's only now that Gibbons' election seems likely that the powers that be are lining up behind him, and even so, their embrace of him is not unanimous.

Gibbons' coronation "hasn't been anything near what you had with Kenny Guinn or (former Gov.) Bob Miller," said Republican political consultant Pete Ernaut, who does not have a candidate in the governor's race. "There hasn't been the total breadth of support financially across different industries."

Ernaut, who has had a rocky relationship with Gibbons over the years, says he has seen Gibbons mellow from an isolated, impetuous populist to a more conventional politician capable of listening to a variety of interests and building consensus.

"I don't think it's any secret that he had a style that didn't sit well with people" at the beginning of his career, Ernaut said. "He's realized that, if you want to be governor, it's a game of addition, not subtraction."

That is, to win the state's top office, Gibbons has had to work on making allies rather than enemies.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Born in Sparks to a father who was a ditch-digger for the Southern Pacific Railroad, Gibbons' life reads as a traditional Republican up-by-his-bootstraps tale, one in which education plays a central role.

"My father taught me a lot about the value of getting an education because his opportunities were so limited by the lack of it," Gibbons said.

Gibbons' father died the day he graduated from high school. His last words to his son were another admonishment to get an education.

Gibbons' mother was also an inspiration: a strong-willed woman who raised six boys, ran a business in the days when women seldom did so, and ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Sparks. Gibbons credits her with planting the seed in his mind of serving the community through elected office.

After earning his undergraduate degree in geology from the University of Nevada, Gibbons signed up for the Air Force rather than be drafted. Since he was a child he had been fascinated with airplanes. Gibbons became a fighter pilot, flying missions in Vietnam that remain classified.

Returning home, Gibbons aimed to become an airline pilot, but the airlines weren't hiring. He enrolled in graduate school, earning a master's degree and getting most of the way toward a doctorate while also working for Union Carbide's tungsten prospecting operation.

Deciding that he "didn't want to be packing rocks up and down a hill when I was 55," Gibbons left without completing his doctorate and enrolled in law school instead. But no sooner did he graduate than Western Airlines called. There had been 3,000 applicants for 38 pilot positions, Gibbons recalls, and he was one of the chosen.

Gibbons flew for Western from 1978 to 1980, when he was furloughed. He worked as a lawyer for the Homestake Mining Co. and then in private practice until 1984, when he was called back by the airline. He gave up the law for flying, always his first love.

He always took the hardest missions, and he never turned down a mission."

POLITICAL CAREER

Gibbons credits his wife Dawn -- now a politician herself, running for the congressional seat he is leaving -- with his entry into politics.

It was 1988, and Gibbons was a pilot for Delta Airlines, which had purchased Western a couple of years before.

"My wife calls me up and says that the guy representing our Assembly district isn't running for re-election," Gibbons recalled.

"I said, 'Let's talk about it when I get home.' I walk in the door and she has the paperwork all filled out for me to sign."

A popular former county commissioner, Jim King, was the favorite in the race, but Gibbons defeated him in the primary and went on to win.

Gibbons tells a curious story about his first term in the Assembly. Perhaps intended to illustrate his ability to stand his ground, it also reads as a tale of political payback.

The newly elected legislator told Delta, his employer, that he would need a six-month unpaid leave to serve in the Assembly. But unlike his previous airline, Delta didn't have a public-service leave policy, and Gibbons was told he would have to choose between his job as a pilot and serving in the Legislature.

Sure enough, when Gibbons went to Carson City he was fired for failing to show up to work. But he soon had a chance to get back at the airline.

"The Legislature was increasing the tax on jet fuel, and they put me in charge of the bill," Gibbons said. "Delta sent a representative to lobby, and guess who they had to come talk to? Me."

Because of the way the airline had treated Gibbons, its lobbyist got nowhere with him. Within days, Gibbons got a call from Delta saying he'd been rehired. When he returned to work after the legislative session, the airline had a public-service leave policy.

"I couldn't believe Delta would be so stubborn when it's so important to have a good relationship with the government," Gibbons said. "I think it was that lobbyist who went back and said, 'This (leave policy) is silly, it could jeopardize our ability to survive.'"

Gibbons was re-elected in 1990. Five days after the election, his National Guard unit was called up for Operation Desert Shield. Gibbons was sure he'd be back soon, but he gave Dawn a letter of resignation just in case.

"We were transferred to a base in Bahrain," Gibbons said. "The wing commander says, 'We're going to war in January.' I couldn't tell anybody.

"On January 16, I called my wife and said, 'I cannot tell you why, but you have to take that letter to the governor tomorrow morning.'"

The war started as Dawn Gibbons was on her way home from giving her husband's resignation to Gov. Bob Miller.

In Gibbons' absence, the Washoe County Commission appointed his wife to serve in the Legislature, then reappointed Gibbons when he returned.

OUTSIDER CANDIDATE

After three terms in the Legislature, Gibbons, despite his relative political inexperience, decided to run for governor in 1994. He looked like the underdog in a crowded Republican primary. The establishment's candidate was then-Secretary of State Cheryl Lau.

But Gibbons campaigned tirelessly and won the primary. He says he ran for the simple reason that he wanted the job.

"I've always wanted to be governor," he said. "That was my goal then, and I hold it today: to lead the state of Nevada."

At the same time, Gibbons was backing an initiative petition, the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative, that would amend the state Constitution to require a two-thirds vote of the state Legislature to raise taxes.

Gibbons lost the governor's race to incumbent Democrat Bob Miller by 11 percentage points. But his initiative passed with nearly 80 percent of the vote.

In 1996, with the tax initiative again on the ballot -- Nevada voters must approve proposed constitutional amendments in two successive elections -- Gibbons ran for the open Congressional District 2 seat vacated by former Rep. Barbara Vucanovich.

That is the seat he has held for the past 10 years, representing all of Nevada except parts of Clark County. In 2000, a third Nevada congressional district was carved out of Gibbons' territory, but his district still includes all of 16 counties and part of the 17th, Clark.

Gibbons currently serves on the House Resources Committee, the Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee. For eight years, Gibbons served on the House Intelligence Committee and was poised to become chairman when then-chair Porter Goss was appointed to head the CIA in 2004.

Gibbons lobbied hard for the post, saying he would not run for governor if he got it. But Gibbons was passed over for the chairmanship, an event his critics paint as a telling failure. Gibbons doesn't deny he was disappointed.

"Porter Goss said if I wanted to become the next chair, he would support me," Gibbons said. "I put my name in, and at the end of the day the speaker (House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.) chose someone else."

Gibbons' allies suspect his vocal opposition to the proposed nuclear repository at Yucca Mountain, which Hastert favors, may have played a role. His critics say it's just another example of what they call Gibbons' failed tenure as a congressman.

RECORD IN CONGRESS

Democrats portray Gibbons' decade as a congressman as a case study in mediocrity.

"We hear the term back-bencher used for Gibbons a lot, and it really fits him," Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirsten Searer said. "He has not sponsored one substantial policy bill and gotten it through Congress. That's indicative of his career in Washington -- just kind of floating along."

Gibbons has introduced 16 bills that succeeded in becoming law. Most are related to public lands. Three served to rename post offices, and one conferred honors on Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

"He hasn't provided leadership to the state of Nevada," Searer said.

Gibbons' record also draws fire for some notable incidents.

In December 2003, he was named "Porker of the Month" by Citizens Against Government Waste for obtaining $225,000 in federal funds to repair a swimming pool down the road from his childhood home in Sparks; he said he wanted to atone for clogging the pool's drain with tadpoles as a teenager.

In November 2005, he co-authored a last-minute amendment to a federal budget bill that would have loosened restrictions on the sale of public lands for mining. The amendment drew heavy criticism from environmentalists, Democrats and some Republicans.

Environmentalists also decry Gibbons' co-authorship last year of a report that attempted to frame mercury in a more positive light. Opponents accuse Gibbons of attempting to whitewash a dangerous substance on behalf of industry.

Gibbons' stance on abortion also has been questioned. He always has claimed to be pro-choice, a position he says comes from his belief that government should stay out of people's bedrooms.

Yet abortion-rights advocates do not consider him a friend because of his votes in favor of restrictions on abortion. Earlier this year, Gibbons told the Review-Journal, "I do not support government funding of abortions, and I do not support late-term abortions," but he still considers himself pro-choice.

Meanwhile, back home, Gibbons has championed the Education First ballot initiative, which would amend the state Constitution to require the Legislature to fund education before the rest of the budget. The measure passed with 57 percent of the vote in 2004 and must pass again in November to take effect.

Gibbons says the initiative shows the priority he places on education, but his critics on both sides say the proposal doesn't really address the state's education problems. Hunt, for instance, called the initiative "a feel-good solution" that "doesn't offer any real answer to Nevada's educational issues."

Gibbons supporters say he hardly has been a do-nothing congressman. "You don't work your way into those committee assignments if you're a back-bencher," said Hal Furman, a former Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Nevada who is now a Washington lobbyist.

Furman said Gibbons is well-respected in the capital as hardworking and straightforward.

In addition to his lands bills, Gibbons, backed by his scientific credentials, has been an aggressive opponent of Yucca Mountain, a stance that has put him at odds with President Bush and many Republicans. Gibbons was also an early supporter of the creation of the Homeland Security Department. He has said that is his proudest accomplishment in Congress.

THE RACE

The guy in front always has the most arrows in his back. Gibbons has been the target of everyone's attacks in the campaign thus far, but it's hard to see how he could lose in November, much less in August, when the primary is held.

Most polls show Gibbons more than 30 points ahead of both Beers and Hunt in the Republican primary. To the other Republicans' great frustration, he has refused to debate them until August, when early voting for the primary already will have started, meaning even a giant gaffe in such a forum would be unlikely to turn the election.

In the general election, most polls show Gibbons beating either Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson or state Sen. Dina Titus by more than 10 points.

University of Nevada, Reno political scientist Eric Herzik said Gibson might give Gibbons a tougher race than Titus, but Gibson still would have an uphill climb against Gibbons' statewide support and financial resources.

Gibbons is supported by Republican political heavyweight Sig Rogich, the power broker whose backing of Guinn was decisive eight years ago. "He's done a terrific job in Congress," Rogich said. "He's been innovative as a legislator here in Nevada. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. ... (Through the initiative process) he's shown that he has the ability to be creative in government."

With Rogich's help, Gibbons has managed to reel in powerful players who didn't take kindly to him at first. University Chancellor Jim Rogers once said Gibbons was "not very bright," but in April, having junked his own gubernatorial ambitions, Rogers got onboard with Gibbons, giving him a $5,000 donation.

Others, notably Guinn, have not come around. Guinn has said he will not endorse a successor, but he recently issued a statement praising Hunt and saying, "Nevada would certainly benefit from her continued leadership."

Guinn is nursing a grudge against Gibbons, Herzik said.

"Kenny Guinn headed Republicans for Miller," against Gibbons' 1994 gubernatorial candidacy. "But Jim Gibbons doesn't hold that against him. The grudge only goes one way."

Gibbons can act rashly, as when last year he made two widely publicized gaffes in quick succession. In January 2005, he said anyone who objected to President Bush's lavish re-inauguration "must be a communist." The following month, he gave a speech in Elko that was shocking enough for its content, suggesting that Hollywood liberals be sent to Iraq as human shields. Even worse, the speech turned out to be plagiarized.

Those types of missteps are the flip side of Gibbons' instinctive, decisive style as a politician. But it would be a mistake to see him as unintelligent or his probable coronation as governor as accidental, Herzik said.

"Gibbons has been consistently underestimated by Democrats and many Republicans," Herzik said. "He's always been something of an outsider, but he's succeeded by going directly to the people," as with his tax restraint measure.

"Many of the state's mainstream interests have always had an arm's length relationship with Jim Gibbons," Herzik added. "They're warming up to him real quick now. They're going to have to work with him."

NEW ZOGBY POLL RELEASED IN NEVADA
“Easily besting presumptive Democratic nominee Dina Titus, and widely expected to take his own party’s nomination, Gibbons seems close to a safe bet in this race.” – Zogby Interactive

(Nevada) Today, respected pollster John Zogby and his Zogby International polling firm released the very latest polling data on the Nevada gubernatorial campaign. The Zogby numbers, coupled with those released just last week by SurveyUSA, show that Jim Gibbons maintains a commanding lead in the Republican primary, and that he continues to lead both Democratic candidates in general election match-ups.

“These numbers are certainly encouraging,” stated Jim Gibbons. “I believe Nevada’s voters are rejecting the negative attacks launched against me by my opponents, and they appreciate the fact that I continue working hard doing the job they pay me to do.

“These numbers do not come by accident and I am honored by the trust and confidence of the people of Nevada. I have been working hard, along with my entire campaign team and Gibbons Ground Crew volunteers, to get our positive message out to the voters. Clearly, these results show that our efforts are working.

“Nevadans want to continue living in a state that is taxpayer-friendly and business- friendly. As Governor, I will work to keep our taxes low and stable by fighting excessive spending. I will work to see that we fund our education needs first in this state, not last. And I will see that we keep our neighborhoods and communities safe from those who fail to abide by our laws.”

Subject: NEWS FLASH! - Jim Gibbons receives another major endorsement

June 12, 2006

LAS VEGAS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ENDORSES JIM GIBBONS FOR GOVERNOR
Backing from business group adds to Gibbons’ momentum

(Las Vegas, NV) – Today, Republican Candidate for Governor Jim Gibbons earned the endorsement of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, a pro-business group with some 6,500 members, 85 percent of which are small businesses of 25 employees or less. The chamber also has one of the most active and effective community outreach programs in the State of Nevada.

“I am honored and thrilled to receive this critical endorsement from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce,” stated Jim Gibbons.

“We share many beliefs about the future of the State of Nevada. As Governor, I will work to keep a low and stable tax base. As Governor, I will work to provide solutions that allow small businesses and individuals to purchase affordable health care. As Governor, I will ensure that our tort laws are fair to both individuals and businesses alike. And, as Governor, I will see that our regulatory environment in Nevada protects consumers while fostering economic development and growth.”

Jim Gibbons has served three terms in the Nevada State Legislature and is currently serving his fifth term in the U.S. Congress. He is the author of the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative, which was overwhelmingly approved in consecutive elections by Nevada voters in 1994 and 1996. This constitutional amendment requires the legislature to garner a 2/3 supermajority vote to raise taxes on Nevadans.

“The Chamber believes that Jim Gibbons has the right vision for the future of Nevada,” stated John Wilcox, the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board.

“He has demonstrated his willingness to listen to the needs and concerns of business and has a strong record of working with legislators both in Nevada and in Washington, D.C. This combination of experience and pro-business values are the qualities Nevada's next governor needs in order to lead our state into the future.”

CONGRATULATIONS JIMMY!!!

This week, Jimmy Gibbons graduated from Galena High School. From all of us at Gibbons headquarters in Las Vegas and Reno, and from Gibbons Ground Crew members across the great State of Nevada, we wish Jimmy well as he prepares for his next venture- attending the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.

Jimmy: Like your proud father, we are all excited for you and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Good luck from our entire crew

God Bless our Troops!!!

A standing ovation from all of us here at home

This week, our United States military eliminated Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in an air strike just north of Baghdad, Iraq. Zarqawi was the leading al- Qaida terrorist operating in Iraq, and was responsible for the murders of thousands of innocent men, women and children in Iraq and throughout the world.

Through day and night, weekdays and weekends, good times and bad -our military men and women carry out their duties to keep Americans safe, and help provide for a more secure world.

We applaud them for their determination, bravery and perseverance. While difficult times remain, we take a moment this week and applaud this significant development in the War on Terror.

We salute our troops! Not just today, but everyday. Thank you for what you do!

Jim Gibbons secures two more major endorsements

Two influential Nevada business groups stand with Gibbons for Governor

This week, Jim Gibbons secured the endorsements of both the Associated Builders and Contractors of Southern Nevada and the Asian Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee. Both groups have very large memberships and are very active politically.

Jim Gibbons is honored to have the support of these fine organizations in his campaign, and he will work hard to make sure that he is successful in both the primary election in August, as well as the general election in November.

In October of 2005, Gibbons earned the endorsement of the Sierra Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors. He continues to work hard to ensure that all business and community groups in Nevada learn of his consistent and longtime efforts to keep taxes low in Nevada so we can enjoy continued economic growth.

The Asian Chamber of Commerce is now in their 20th year of active leadership for the Asian business community in southern Nevada. In 2005, Gibbons received the Asian Chamber of Commerce Award for Elected Official of the Year.

Gibbons campaigns across Nevada!

This week, Jim Gibbons held numerous campaign events across Nevada.

After representing the citizens of Laughlin for 6 years in Congress, Jim Gibbons campaigned there this week to seek their support in his run for Governor. Gibbons held a campaign meet- n-greet at the Café Delight on Wednesday, and had time to visit with both the Laughlin Times and KLBC Channel 2.

The Gibbons campaign also hosted an Ice Cream Social at the Minden Town Park on Thursday, June 1st. Thank you to all the supporters who attended with their families and friends!

Jim Gibbons also held Open House events at both his campaign headquarters in Las Vegas (Tuesday, May 30th) and Reno (Friday, June 2nd). Both events were well attended, dozens of new volunteers were recruited and numerous yard signs and bumper stickers went home with supporters!

REMINDER: If you want a yard sign or bumper sticker, please contact either of our offices today! Southern Nevada – (702) 987-3279 or Northern Nevada (775) 322-4546.

NEVADA ONE IS NOW THE GREEN MACHINE!!!

Gibbons campaign bus now runs on 100% bio-diesel fuel

Thanks to Minden-based Bently BioFuels and their work to provide bio-diesel fuel to all Nevada consumers, Nevada will soon achieve energy independence, a cleaner environment, and a better quality of life for all our residents and guests.

Jim Gibbons is doing his part by fueling Nevada One – his campaign bus – with 100% bio- diesel fuel. The bus received its first fill-up on Thursday at Bently BioFuels in Minden.

Later this month, Gibbons will propose an energy platform that will focus heavily on providing the right incentives to make Nevada energy independent by the year 2020. Gibbons’ Energy 2020 platform will focus heavily on alternative and renewable energy development and production, and the goal to make us an energy independent state by the year 2020.

“We can invest today in clean, renewable sources of energy in Nevada and work aggressively to see that our state is completely energy independent by the year 2020. By doing so, we provide economic development and diversification as well as a cleaner environment for future generations. In addition, we can become the leading advocate for clean energy, not just in America, but throughout the world."

“That is my goal as Nevada’s next Governor.” - Jim Gibbons

GIBBONS SIGNS PLEDGE TO PROTECT TAXPAYERS
Gubernatorial candidate promises not to raise taxes

(Las Vegas, NV) ?This past weekend, Republican candidate for Governor Jim Gibbons signed the Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) Taxpayer Protection Pledge, promising not to raise taxes on Nevada’s hardworking families.
As a congressman, Jim Gibbons has taken the Taxpayer Protection Pledge and has consistently been named a “Hero of the Taxpayer?by ATR. He is also the author of the Gibbons Tax Restraint Initiative, a constitutional amendment that requires both houses of the Nevada legislature to garner a 2/3 supermajority vote in order to raise taxes. The amendment passed in the consecutive elections of 1994 and 1996 by nearly three of every four Nevada voters.

“I have spent my entire public career fighting to keep our taxes low in Nevada,?Gibbons stated. “Our economy can only continue to thrive if politicians promise to maintain a low and stable tax base. As I have done in the past, I pledge to the voters of Nevada that if elected to serve as Nevada’s next Governor, I will not raise taxes.?/b>

Gibbons signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge on Saturday, May 20th while attending the Nevada Republican Party’s state convention in Mesquite. Nevada Republican Party Chairman Paul Adams and Chuck Muth, the head of Citizen Outreach Political Action Committee (COPAC), were the two witnesses to the signing.

“I applaud Jim Gibbons for his commitment to all taxpayers of Nevada,?stated Grover Norquist, President of Americans for Tax Reform.

Jim Gibbons is the leading candidate for Governor of Nevada, according to numerous statewide, independent polls. He has served three terms in Nevada’s state legislature and five terms in the U.S. Congress.

Gibbons secures another law enforcement endorsement

Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies Association
supports
Jim Gibbons for Governor

This week, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputies Association (WCSDA) endorsed Jim Gibbons for Governor. This is the second important law enforcement association to back Gibbons in his campaign. The Nevada Corrections Association endorsed Gibbons earlier this year.

In its endorsement letter, WCSDA President Bill Ames wrote:

“(Jim Gibbons’) long history of support for law enforcement and public safety in Nevada speaks for itself. As a Congressman, your door has always been open to meet with us and other constituents in Washington, DC. We trust this will continue as Governor. Our goal is nothing less than safe streets and safe families; we know you will continue with this philosophy.”

Jim is extremely honored to have received this endorsement, and promises as Governor to ensure that Nevada law enforcement has the tools needed to keep our communities and neighborhoods safe for our families.

Gibbons honors National Mother of the Year
Nevada mom receives award

Today, Jim Gibbons honored the National Mother of the Year, Nevadan Laurie Richardson, at a ceremony in Las Vegas. She was selected by American Mothers, Inc., a national organization of women and men, married and single, parents and grandparents, dedicated to preserving the moral and spiritual foundations of the family in America.

“I was proud to be in attendance today to honor Laurie for this achievement,” stated Gibbons. “I also want to wish all the moms across Nevada a Happy Mother’s Day and hope they can enjoy time with family and friends this weekend.”

For more information, go here: http://www .americanmothers.org/

Gibbons calls for further protections for our kids against sexual predators

This week, Jim Gibbons pledged to work with the legislature to close a loophole in existing state law that prevents law enforcement from tracking and arresting sexual predators. The change in the law is necessary for law enforcement to monitor those who prey on Nevada’s children on the Internet. Recent court cases have exposed a loophole in state law that does not give our law enforcement personnel the ability to disguise their identity in order to catch these criminals.

Gibbons said that changing existing Nevada law with regard to the solicitation of children over the Internet is vitally important.

"Law enforcement officers posing as children on the Internet are having a difficult time prosecuting the adults that use computers to solicit children due to Nevada District Court rulings." said Gibbons. "Recent court rulings have interpreted Nevada's current Internet solicitation law to require the person being solicited to be an actual child and not a law enforcement agent."

"Obviously, this needs to change. I intend to make preventing the exploitation of children a high priority of state government. Whether children are solicited by sex offenders in parks, schools, or on the Internet, we are going to send a message to these predators that they are not welcome in Nevada."

In March, Gibbons released a five- point plan to strengthen Nevada's sexual offender laws. The plan includes GPS monitoring for sex offenders, changing lifetime supervision to lifetime parole, and collecting DNA samples from out-of- state sex offenders who move to Nevada.

South Hills Republican Women welcomes Gibbons

Today, Jim Gibbons attended the South Hills Republican Women mixer event in Henderson. The event took place from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The Gibbons campaign is always pleased to visit the various Republican clubs across the state. If you would like to have Jim Gibbons appear at your club’s event, please don’t hesitate to contact our campaign office in either Las Vegas or Reno.

Mike and Rita Vaswani host Jim Gibbons tonight!!!

Tonight, Republican activists Mike and Rita Vaswani will host an event to honor Jim Gibbons at their home in Las Vegas beginning at 6:30 pm.

“I am so honored and proud to have Mike and Rita supporting my candidacy for Governor of Nevada,” Gibbons stated. “They are truly dedicated to electing strong leaders for our state, and they work extremely hard to help candidates they support. I look forward to their event tonight, and I appreciate their continued support and friendship.”

Nevada Republican Party State Convention

Jim Gibbons looks forward to attending next week’s Nevada Republican Party state convention in Mesquite. This is a critically important election year, and Jim Gibbons plans on working to not only win his election, but to help his fellow Republicans win in November, as well.

Subject: ALERT! New statewide poll released on Governor’s race

New independent, statewide poll on Governor’s race

Gibbons maintains strong lead in Nevada

(Nevada) – Today, the Las Vegas Review-Journal released results from a new statewide poll on this year’s Governor’s race, which once again shows Jim Gibbons as the leading candidate. The headline in Nevada’s largest newspaper publication reads: “Gibbons running far ahead of field; Poll finds wide gap in gubernatorial race.”

Brad Coker, managing partner of Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, Inc., had this to say about Nevada’s gubernatorial race:

“Gibbons is still by far the strongest Republican, and he still beats all the Democrats.”

Jim Gibbons, Republican candidate for Governor and current congressman representing the 2nd District of Nevada, had this reaction to the new poll numbers:

“I want to thank all of those who have volunteered and contributed to my campaign for Governor. While I am heartened by these results, I am fully aware that a candidate does not receive such strong numbers by accident. It takes a tremendous amount of hard work, discipline, and the ability to earn the trust of the voters.

“For three terms in the state legislature, and now five terms in Congress, voters have gotten to know me and my priorities. Here in Nevada, we can keep our economic engine running full steam, continue to attract businesses and jobs, and work to improve our education and infrastructure without creating high taxes and onerous government regulations.

“As Nevada’s next Governor, I will work to address the many challenges our state faces. I will see that we do not squander our opportunities to continue attracting families, businesses and jobs to Nevada. We will allow for future growth while preserving our natural resources. And, most importantly, we will work to achieve better results in our K-12 public education system.”

This new statewide poll shows Jim Gibbons with a significant lead over his Republican primary opponents (Gibbons 51, Hunt 15, Beers 11), while maintaining a comfortable lead over both of the announced Democratic candidates (Gibbons 50, Titus 33- and- Gibbons 44, Gibson 30).

The Nevada poll sampled 268 Republicans, 257 Democrats and 100 nonpartisans. Four hundred interviews were done in Clark County, 125 in Washoe County and 100 in rural Nevada. According to the article, female respondents slightly outnumbered male respondents. The news story also indicates that the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points when all voters were surveyed.

“This poll is very encouraging, but it does not change in any way what we are doing operationally in the campaign,” stated Robert Uithoven, Gibbons’ campaign manager.

“We continue aggressively recruiting volunteers, raising the necessary funds to get our message out, and preparing for an extraordinarily close race this November. Certainly, these numbers will help, though the only poll that eventually matters is the one taken by voters at the ballot box on Election Day.”
