By Jennifer Kung**--** ***** "And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." ---John F. Kennedy The Paradise Democratic Club's "Outstanding Democrat of the Year" 2006 Champagne Reception honoring Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto was held on June 20, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The champagne reception was held also in honoring Deidra Prestridge, Walter Dowd and Susan Ford, whom were presented with "Grass Roots" Democrat of the year Awards.*1 A national Summit will be held in Las Vegas on August this year! "Dear Friends -- we hope you can join us at the historic event being August 23-25 in Las Vegas. The cost is just $25 to register. And please feel free to spread the word. Thank you!" wrote Betsy Kim on July 26, 2007 in Washington, D.C.*2 According to the above e-mail, Elizabeth O. Kim (Betsy Kim) is Deputy Director, American Majority Partnership of the Democratic National Committee. The following letter has been forwarded by her to Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) in the mail. "Dear Friend, Democrats are taking back our country because everyone has a seat at the table. Our diversity makes us relevant, it makes us representative of our country, and it makes us better serve the entire nation. You have a chance to see this in action. The 2007 DNC American Majority Partnership Summit starts in just over a month in Las Vegas -- and I 'd like for you to join us: http://www.democrats.org/dncJointSummit," stated Gov. Howard Dean on the "National Democratic Party".*3 He reminds us that, "Hosted by the DNC's African American, Asian Pacific Islander American, LGBT, Hispanic and Women's Caucuses, the Summit will be an incredible chance for leaders in the party to hear from you. This meeting will also help set up our strategy for success in the upcoming election cycle. There will be trainings on how to run for office, and how to win; policy briefings by our party's leading experts; and trainings on new technologies that will give our candidates the tools for victory." "Come to the 2007 DNC AMP Summit, August 23 - 25, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada: http://www.democrats.org/dncJointSummit I'll be at the AMP Summit, as will other key leaders of the Democratic Party. Howard Dean, M.D.," urged Gov. Howard Dean.*4 Wish the Summit a great success!*5 -------------------------------------------- References *1. If you do not live in one of these three areas, perhaps you know someone who is interested and does live there. The applications are due this Thursday, November 16th. Date: Mon, 23 Oct 2006 14:30:27 -0700 From: "Friends of Dina Titus" [dina@dinatitus.com] Subject: Support in the spotlight! October 23, 2006 In This Issue: Support in the spotlight! Stay involved! Visit www.dinatitus.com for the latest news and events. It’s hard to believe we’re already in the thick of Early Voting, with thousands casting ballots to change the direction of our state! It was exciting to see so many of you this weekend for the various rallies and activities to kick off and get out the vote. Please know how much your support has meant throughout this campaign - we could never have come this far without you! The end is near for Jim Gibbons, but we need every ounce of your energy to continue to carry our message of change and get your friends, neighbors and colleagues out to the polls. And speaking of support, I wanted to share with you some great news. This past weekend was bookended by emphatic endorsements in the north and south, from Carson City’s Nevada Appeal (October 20) and the Las Vegas Sun (October 22). Examining the differences between candidates, both papers felt there was a very clear choice for the future of our state. Check out the Appeal’s endorsement at: http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20061020/OPINION/110200112&SearchID=73260742912348 The Appeal’s publisher, John Dimambro, also followed up with some thoughts on the race: http://www.nevadaappeal.com/article/20061022/OPINION/110220102 Check out the Sun’s endorsement at: http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/editorials/2006/oct/22/566662005.html As you know, our race has also captured national attention as one of the country’s most competitive gubernatorial contests. The early Democratic Caucus in 2008 has also intensified the spotlight on Nevada. The national media is definitely paying attention. In fact, Esquire magazine has just weighed in to endorse my bid for governor! You can read Esquire’s endorsement online at: http://www.esquire.com/features/articles/2006/061012_mfe_Endorsements_2006_Nevada.html I thought you might also like to see a few samples of other recent national stories chronicling our efforts: New York Times, October 13: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/13/us/politics/13caucus.html Los Angeles Times, October 15: http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-incumbents15oct15,1,6904564.story National Public Radio (“All Things Considered” - audio), October 22: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6364278 In addition, I’m most excited to be the subject of a truly unique feature in the just-released November issue of Harper’s magazine – a postmodern look at campaigning in rural Nevada during the primary, penned by noted art critic and writer Dave Hickey. Take a look: http://dinatitus.com/dinatitus_its_morning_in_nevada.pdf One thing is evident through all of this attention: that the work you are doing on behalf of our campaign is making a real difference. I am truly blessed to have such stalwart and heartfelt support throughout our great state and beyond. Thanks once again for all that you do. Please keep up the fight as we race toward November 7! Hope to see you there! About Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton: Hillary Rodham Clinton was elected to the United States Senate by the people of New York on November 7, 2000, after decades of public service on behalf of children and families. A strong advocate for New York, Hillary works with communities across the state to strengthen the economy and to expand opportunity. She is the first New Yorker ever to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee, working to see that America’s military has the necessary resources to protect our national security. And Hillary supports a return to fiscal responsibility, because she knows that wise national economic policies are essential to protect America’s future. Senator Clinton also serves on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee; the Environment and Public Works Committee; and the Special Committee on Aging. She chairs the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee, which is responsible for communicating with the public about key issues before Congress. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Hillary worked with her colleagues to secure the funds New York needed to recover and rebuild . She fought to provide compensation to the families of the victims, grants for hard-hit small businesses, and health care for front line workers at Ground Zero. And she continues to work for resources that enable New York to grow, to improve homeland security for New York and other communities, and to protect all Americans from future attacks. She has introduced legislation to provide for direct and threat-based homeland security funding to ensure that first responders and high-target communities have the resources they need. In 2004, Senator Clinton was asked by the Department of Defense to serve as the only Senate member of the Transformation Advisory Group to the Joint Forces Command. She has visited troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, at Fort Drum in New York, home of the 10th Mountain Division and other New York bases, as well as at Walter Reed Military Hospital, to learn first hand the challenges facing American combat forces. She is an original sponsor of legislation that expanded health benefits to members of the National Guard and Reserves. Continuing her work for children and families in the Senate, Hillary led efforts to ensure the safety of prescription drugs for children, with legislation now included in the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act; worked to strengthen the Children’s Health Insurance Program which increased coverage for children in low income and working families, and helps schools address environmental hazards. Senator Clinton continues to work to increase access to health care. She authored legislation that has been enacted to improve recruitment and retention of nurses, to improve quality and lower the cost of prescription drugs, and to protect our food supply from bioterrorism. She sponsored legislation to increase America’s commitment against Global AIDS, and is now leading the fight for expanded use of information technology in the health care system to decrease administrative costs and reduce medical errors. To help businesses expand, Senator Clinton co-sponsored legislation enacted in 2004 to extend tax credits to communities that can help businesses in regions designated as Renewal Communities. She has sponsored conferences and business development tours throughout the state, aimed at attracting new investment; introduced legislation to increase access to broadband technology in rural areas; and serves as Honorary Chair of the Advisory Committee for New Jobs for New York. Hillary has spoken clearly about the importance of protecting our constitutional rights, respecting such landmark Supreme Court decisions as Roe v. Wade. Her commitment to supporting Roe and working to reduce the number of abortions, by reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies, was hailed by the New York Times as “frank talk...(and) a promising path.” Hillary is one of the original cosponsors of the Prevention First Act to increase access to family planning. Hillary is strongly committed to making sure that every American has the right to vote in fair, accessible, and credible elections -and that every vote must be counted. She has introduced the Count Every Vote Act of 2005 to provide a verified paper ballot for every vote cast in electronic voting machines; set a uniform standard for provisional ballots, and require the Federal Election Assistance Commission to issue standards that ensure uniform access to voting machines and election personnel in every community. Because the Republican Congress has been unwilling to deal with this issue, Hillary is working with advocacy groups and citizen volunteers to build the demand for action. Hillary was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1947, the daughter of Dorothy Rodham and the late Hugh Rodham. Her father was a small businessman, and Hillary has often spoken of learning from her experience with the family business. After graduating from Wellesley College and Yale Law School, she practiced law in Arkansas. Hillary was appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1977 to chair the United States Legal Services Corporation, and also served as head of the American Bar Association Committee on Women in the Profession. She was Chair of the Board of the Children’s Defense Fund, a national advocacy group for the interests of children, from 1986-1991. Senator Clinton is married to former President William J. Clinton and they have a daughter, Chelsea. The Clintons live in Chappaqua, New York. President Clinton now heads the William J. Clinton Foundation, focused on the international battle against HIV/AIDS; racial, ethnic and religious reconciliation; economic empowerment of poor people; and citizen service. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve with former President H. W. Bush as a special Presidential Delegation to build support for tsunami relief, and was appointed Special Envoy by the Secretary-General of the United Nations for tsunami-affected countries. As First Lady of the United States from 1993-2001, Hillary led efforts to make adoption easier and increase support for families in the adoption and foster care system; to increase funding for breast cancer research and treatment and for children’s vaccinations; and to make education, health care, and economic opportunity available for women and girls around the world. As keynote speaker at the United Nations Fifth International Conference on Women, in Beijing China, she spoke for the rights of women and girls around the world, saying “Women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women's rights." Hillary's memoir, Living History, was published in June, 2003 and has now sold more than 3 million copies. She has also written It Takes a Village: and Other Lessons Children Teach Us; Dear Socks, Dear Buddy: Kids Letters to the First Pets; and An Invitation to the White House, a tribute to the historic home of the nation's First Families. 11111111111111 444444444444444444444444 77777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 *****************************************************

Date: Thu, 5 Oct 2006 12:44:48 -0700 From: "Friends of Dina Titus" [dina@dinatitus.com] Subject: End is Near For Jim Gibbons October 5, 2006 Let's Put This Election Away! Your Help Now Will Put Us Over The Top! Dear Friends, Could this election season be more exciting? Everywhere I go there are crowds of Nevadans—Democrats, Republicans, and non-partisans—telling me how important it is for us to win in November. The prospects for Jim Gibbons and his failed fellow Congressmen are dwindling every day. They have abandoned the values of the voters who put them in power – they are, in turn, peddling their lies to voters who no longer believe them! Here in our campaign, events couldn’t be moving faster. This week, Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) and I urged our state’s firefighters to keep fighting to create the best first-response departments in the nation. They renewed their commitment to our campaign and we are marching forward together. On Wednesday, we had an incredible rally with nearly 1,500 members of the Culinary Union. Their energy and passion for real change in our state are inspiring and will help carry us to victory! It is no secret that we are being outspent. For us, this is something we’re used to. We were outspent over two to one in the Primary Election – but that didn’t stop us, did it? Are you ready for the final stages of this election? I am, and I know you are too. Make a Contribution Today! It is not easy asking your friends for financial help. But for too long one small group of people in this country has wielded near-absolute power and look at the results! We are not safer, our children’s future has been mortgaged and these Washington politicians continue to believe they are not accountable to the public they serve nor to the values they preach. We can and we must stop them. This is where you come in. Put and end to politics-as-usual; make a contribution today! Let’s face it. Jim Gibbons is trying to gloss over his inconsequential career in Congress with a pile of money around election time. He tells flat-out lies in his television commercials and in his rare appearances in Nevada—rare even though the House of Representatives has only held votes 89 days this year as of the end of September. This Congress has met fewer days than any Congress since Truman’s time, yet his “full-time” job in Washington is Gibbons’ excuse for ducking forums and debates in Nevada. This is our time, and we are ready to lead. With you by my side I cannot fail. I am honored to have your confidence and your support! Respectfully, Dina Titus, Nevada Senate Minority Leader 3333333333333333 5555555555555555555555555555 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 *******************************************************

From: "John Kerry" [info@johnkerry.com] To: tojulei@yahoo.com Subject: Nevada. Volunteer a few hours. 35 days to go. Date: Tue, 3 Oct 2006 13:06:44 -0500 Dear Friend, There are only 35 days left until you and other Nevada voters go to the polls to make decisions that will shape your state, your country, and your world. Before you give our candidates your vote, I'm hoping you'll give them your time. I'm writing because Dina Titus, the Nevada state Senate Minority Leader, needs your help in her down-to-the-wire race to reclaim the governor's office from the Republicans... because Jack Carter needs your support in his campaign against Republican incumbent Senator John Ensign, an unwavering supporter of President Bush... and because Democrats in other important elections across Nevada need your help in their campaigns to represent you. On Saturday, October 7, the Nevada Democratic Party will be hosting important events across the state, and we need your volunteer support to make them as powerful as they can be. First, you can help the Nevada Democrats meet their goal of registering 1000 new Democratic voters on October 7, the final day to register voters for the November 7 election, by volunteering to participate in their "Every Voter Counts" events across the state. You can also help the Nevada Democrats "Get Out The Vote" by participating in one of the GOTV trainings they will be holding across the state on October 7, and by putting your training to good use in the subsequent days leading up to November 7. We need you to ensure that these events on Saturday, October 7 -- and the outcome of this crucial election -- are a success. Can you possibly volunteer on October 7 -- or at any other time between now and election day -- to help the Nevada Democratic Party and your Democratic candidates? Volunteer for Nevada Democrats When it's all said and done, political campaigns are about people reaching out to other people and sharing their hopes, dreams, fears, and frustrations. But, you can't share any of those things unless you first choose to give of your time. Want to address our pressing needs for healthcare reform, energy independence, and economic security? Then offer to help Dina Titus and Nevada Democrats. Want to express your determination to end the failed "stay-the-course" Bush approach to Iraq? Then please spend a few hours supporting Jack Carter and Nevada Democrats. Want to make sure Republican scare tactics don't turn the promise of victory into the shock of defeat in these final weeks? Then sign up to volunteer with the Nevada Democratic Party on Saturday, October 7 or at another time between now and the election. Volunteer for Nevada Democrats We've always known that the November 7 elections are going to be vitally important. But, each day that passes reminds us just how essential these elections are to the institutions of democracy, to the protection of our national security and environment, and to the future of our families. I know it isn't easy to find a few hours to make phone calls, drop leaflets, send out emails or attend campaign events in your community. But I also know how committed you are to winning -- for the candidates who've worked so hard, for the state that you call home, and for the country that you love. Let's dig deep. Let's work our hearts out during these final 35 days of this campaign. And let's celebrate like there's no tomorrow when we bring our candidates home to victory on that first Tuesday in November. Sincerely, John Kerry P.S. My political action committee, Keeping America's Promise, is dedicated to electing Democrats like Dina Titus and Jack Carter up and down the ticket in 2006. You can support our efforts to take back Congress and chart a new course for our country. 5555555555555 11111111111111111111111111 88888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 ******************************************************

Bill Richardson (D-New Mexico) Dear Tony , I wanted to write this note to you today on this day of reflection and of great hope for the future. As I meet more friends from around Nevada each day, I am struck by that hope they all share – hope for a better quality of life, for ever greater opportunities, and for a state that supports all Nevadans, regardless of personal or political background. I had the opportunity this evening to share some time with Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico who understands why Nevada is such an important state for the future of our country and has generously lent his support to our campaign. It was wonderful to see so many supporters and leaders of the Hispanic community pack the house tonight at Doña Maria’s restaurant to share in the experiences of this great leader and friend. We were happy to be joined by our own Assemblyman Ruben Kihuen and gratified by the endorsement of Eddie Escobedo, Founder and Publisher of El Mundo in Las Vegas. Governor Richardson just returned from the Sudan where he negotiated the release of a captive journalist. He told the story of winning freedom for this journalist, who had been accused of espionage, through diplomacy – resolving differences through honest discourse. His story reminded me of the wonderful spirit that emerged in our country in the days following the 9/11 attacks on our nation. At our darkest hour, political and religious differences washed away, and hearts around the globe were with us. In many ways that outpouring of support represented the best of humanity’s capabilities. Those are the moments we should strive for, taking full advantage of all the great diversity of our global community and working together toward a better tomorrow. One of the best ways we can honor this day is to rededicate our efforts to a future full of promise. I’d ask each of you as you reflect on this fifth anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 to also think about the future of our country and our state. I know that the best days for this great nation and this great state are ahead. There are no limits to what we can accomplish working together. About Mark Warner: Mark Warner, a Democrat who served as Virginia's governor from 2002 to 2006, was featured March 12 on the cover of The New York Times Magazine, which described him as "the bright new star in the constellation of would-be candidates" for president of the United States. Although Warner has yet to decide if he will run, the story states that, "Warner is being mentioned near the top of every list of candidates vying for the (Democratic) nomination in 2008." According to the Times article, Warner's "80 percent approval rating when he left office (in Virginia) made him one of the most adored governors in the state's history." In 2005, Virginia was the only state in the nation to earn straight A's in fiscal management from teams of experts and academics assembled by the Pew Charitable Trust and Governing magazine. Warner was named by Time magazine as one of the "5 Best Governors" in 2005, and by Governing magazine as one of its "Public Officials of the Year" in 2004. Warner has served in a leadership role in several national organizations, including terms as chairman of the National Governors Association, chairman of the Southern Governors' Association, States' co-chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission and chairman of the Education Commission of the States, a national nonpartisan policy organization. Warner became a key figure in the telecommunications industry in the 1980s, becoming a founding partner of Columbia Capital Corporation, a venture capital fund that started more than 50 telecommunications and information technology companies. As a pioneer in the field of wireless communications, Warner was a co-founder of Nextel Communications. A native of Indiana, Warner began his political career in 1993 as chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia. Dear Tony , I write this having just completed the first 615 miles of our labor day rural swing - including two parades and many events spread over four county seats from Elko to Battle Mountain, and Winnemucca to Lovelock. The labor day weekend parades have been lots of fun, with our festively outfitted monster trucks the envy of all entrants. Our tireless team has been having a great time, providing balloons, stickers and candy to the many children lining the parade routes. We've been greeted by enthusiastic supporters and made many new friends over the course of just our first two days. And though we we have seen many candidates in the course of our travels, one in particular was notable only by his absence. Let's just say we couldn't find any Gibbons in what he's called "Gibbons Country." Our good friends Dorothy North and Esther Quilici hosted the party of the season in Elko, with more than 100 guests (including many Republicans and nonpartisans) who, I am pleased to report, are completely committed to our message of change for the future of our state. In Winnemucca today, multitalented teacher Nancy Heredia lent her classroom skills to decorating our meet-and-greet tent and our truck. We finished the day enjoying great barbecue at a Humane Society benefit at Sturgeon's Hotel/Casino in Lovelock, where I was happy to be introduced as "Nevada's next governor." And they said we wouldn't play in the rurals! We'll have more news from the road for you in the coming days, and please visit our website for a special diary and lots of photos. Until then... the Gibbons hunt continues! Post through the courtesy of Las Vegas Review-Journal:Sep. 01, 2006 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal JOHN L. SMITH: Poll gives challengers hope that may vanish when money starts flowing In the calm before the cacophony of Campaign 2006, anything seems possible. A recent Wall Street Journal Online/Zogby interactive poll showed Democrat Dina Titus leading Republican Jim Gibbons 46.8 percent to 44.1 percent in the Nevada governor's race, and incumbent U.S. Sen. John Ensign's lead over Democrat Jack Carter had narrowed to 48 percent to 45 percent. Advertisement Just a few months ago, Clark County Commissioner Lynette Boggs McDonald didn't figure to draw much of a challenge for her seat in District F. She has one now. A Magellan Research tracking poll commissioned by opponent Susan Brager shows her with a slight lead over Boggs McDonald, 41.6 percent to 40.4 percent, with 18 percent undecided -- not that it's expected to remain that way. Boggs McDonald is a hard-charging campaigner and an attentive commissioner. Elected in November 2002 following a gubernatorial appointment, Boggs McDonald had experience as a Las Vegas city councilwoman and also was assistant city manager. The poll illustrates, given the right challenger, that no lead is safe. For the moment, 12-year Clark County School District trustee and Democratic primary winner Brager is in the hunt. She won her primary with 58 percent of the vote in a heavily Democratic district. Despite that, this horse race may be short-lived. Republican Boggs McDonald has amassed more than $1.3 million in campaign funds to approximately $100,000 for Brager, according to a recent Review-Journal story. No matter how capable a candidate Brager is, it still takes hay to run around the track. Boggs McDonald consultant Ryan Erwin says his client isn't surprised by the poll's results given the 9-point Democratic registration advantage. But with more than $1 million banked, Erwin says there are plenty of plans to put the incumbent's message before the voters. Brager would have a better chance if TV weren't yet invented. Once Boggs McDonald starts spreading around the cash in the form of advertisements and commercials, the numbers could change quickly. Frankly, it makes you wonder where all those supposedly angry Democrats with checkbooks are. "Basically, what it says is that without people actively campaigning in the race against each other, voters are going to follow party lines. And there is a Democratic registration advantage in District F," Magellan President Marvin Longabaugh observes. That could change quickly once the spin machines begin weaving their magic. "In a race like this, money usually is a pretty telling factor," he says. Given the voter registration advantage, Longabaugh says, "I think Susan Brager would have an excellent shot, but the Democrats are going to have to put their money where their mouth is." The poll of inveterate voters was conducted Aug. 24-25 in District F with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Given the public's disgust with politics generally in the wake of the G-sting public corruption case, local incumbents could be in for a rough ride. LIVING MEMORY: The memory of late Station Casinos executive Michael Tata continues to reverberate from the gaming company into the charitable community. Tata's many friends continue to raise thousands of dollars in his honor, including $16,000 for Make-a-Wish. Tata, who died in his sleep at age 33, had a promising career with Stations. But if he'd lived to be 100, he might not have brought as many smiles to the sick children whose dreams come true thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. UNLV Foundation executive Matt Muldoon gets credit for an assist for helping to organize a successful charity golf tournament. TROOPER'S EFFORT: Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Eddie Dutchover has shown professional understatement after nabbing outlaw polygamist Warren Steed Jeffs this week, but some of his new local fans are calling for Dutchover to receive the $100,000 reward that was offered for the sect leader's capture. If the trooper can't accept it, perhaps the cash could be donated to an NHP relief fund or to a charity for abused children. At the very least, it's time to give that man a raise. ON THE BOULEVARD: The city's hearing on the future of the Crazy Horse Too topless club is set for Wednesday, just after the Labor Day weekend. ... Attention, Vegas casino guys & dolls, the 10th annual Sahara hotel and casino employees reunion is set for 3 p.m. Thursday Sept. 21 at Palace Station. Have an item for the Bard of the Boulevard? Wall St. Journal/Zogby Poll Shows Titus Leading GibbonsAugust 28, 2006 In the first poll conducted since the August 15th primary election, the Wall Street Journal Online / Zogby Interactive today published results showing State Senator Dina Titus ahead of Congressman Jim Gibbons, by a margin of 46.8% to 44.1%. A previous poll published by the group in July showed Gibbons with a head-to-head advantage of 45% to 39.9%.*1 The poll reinforces the findings of an August 23 analysis by The Cook Political Report, an independent, nonpartisan newsletter analyzing elections and campaigns. The group rated Nevada’s gubernatorial race as a “toss-up,” defined as one of the most competitive races. “It’s very exciting to see the first poll since the primary go our way,” said Titus. “Although it’s very early in the race, it shows the momentum our campaign has gained right out of the gate. Our message of change and our plan to address the issues of greatest importance to all Nevadans is resonating with voters across the state.
