By GSBPA of WBTI*1 Why our District Judge Mark Denton has enjoyed his humble character in this world with his authority and power? It's only because of his great accomplishments of professionalism, integrity, and dignity! Dr. Tony Lei received a letter from District Judge Mark Denton soon after the first edition of this feature article was published. The letter written by him was sent to Dr. Lei by mail from his Department XIII of the Eight Judicial District Court on May 18, 2004. "Dear Dr. Lei, Thank you so much for including me in last Friday's dinner recognition for Dean Livingstone. It was great to see you and to meet the Dean and the other Pepperdine alumni. (It's also good to meet Ms. Helen Hsueh and Mr. Robert Song.) Please give my say to your lovely wife. Sincerely," wrote District Judge Mark Denton. Mark Denton is also one of the two Vice Presidents of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). In winning friendship, Dr. Tony Lei used to remind us the following good words from the Bible: "A word aptly spoken is like apple of gold in settings of silver." --- Proverbs 25 : 11 of the Bible "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12 : 10 of the Bible "Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend spring from his earnest counsel." --- Proverbs 27 : 9 of the Bible Welcome! Welcome our Dean Dr. Linda Livingstone of Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management to Las Vegas! Dear friends, let's share the following golden words of wisdom with our faculty members please: "A (woman or a) man finds joy in giving an apt reply --- and how good is a timely word!" --- Proverbs 15 : 23 of the Bible "The reward for work done is the opportunity to do more." --- Jonas Salk, MD "Freedom is the oxygen of the soul." --- Moshe Dayan "With sincere love, it's like living in Heaven. On the other hand, with cruel hate, it's like living in Hell. Fighting and malice for selfish gain belong to Hell. Cooperation and encouragement to promote quality of life are attitudes of Heaven." --- Dr. Tony T. Lei "Do to others as you would have them do to you." --- Luke 6 : 31 of the Bible "The great Winston Churchill said, 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' Tony, I know that you like to exemplify this inspiration same as it's my driving force by which I start out each day." --- Judge Natalie L. Tyrrell of Nevada Dr. Linda Livingstone, Dean of Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management, invited several selected and achieved alumni to dinner with her at the Pietro's Gourmet Restaurant of Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 14, 2004. "Dear Dr. Tony Lei: This message will confirm your attendance for dinner with Dr. Linda Livingstone, Dean of Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management. If you have arranged with me to bring a guest, your guest (Judge Mark Denton, District Judge of Nevada) is confirmed as well. Thank you and enjoy the dinner. Sincerely," wrote Pamela Bellew, Director, Advancement and Alumni Relations. The presented individuals as guests were Dr. Tony Lei, Mr. Hector Mon, Dr. Wanda M. Costen, Mr. David Donovan, Mr. Douglas W. Hensley, Mr. Michael Jabara, and Judge Mark Denton. Dr. Tony Tung-tien Lei received MBA with straight A from Pepperdine University in 1969. He received his Doctor of Education degree in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University in 1990. He was an Assoiciate Professor of Information Management of the Graduate School of Business Administration of National Chunghsin University and a Fellow of Management for Dean Dr. Donald R. Sime of the School of Business and Management of Pepperdine University. Ms. Helen Hsueh and Mr. Robert Song were invited by Dr. Tony Lei as our representative and photographer for the Chinese multimedia. Helen Hsueh is the President of Las Vegas Chinese Daily News, while Robert Song is the President of Pan-America Legal Services Company. "It's good to have more people joining us as friends of our Pepperdine family," said Dean Livingstone at the Dinner Party. "It was a pleasure having you join us at our dinner. Thanks to for sending the pictures. They are great," wrote Dr. Livingstone to Robert Song, who sent out the pictures to all participants soon after the Dinner. Pepperdine University is a very famous university. Its main campus at Malibu, California is the leading beauty of noted universities in the world. "Pepperdine University has earned a reputation for its responsiveness to career-oriented professionals," said Dr. David Davenport, former President of the University.2* The Graziadio School of Business and Management has enjoined one of the highest reputation for Pepperdine University.*3 To educate executives and managers with innovative knowledge and modern technology is a core competency of the Graziadio School . "Indeed, this year has marked a number of significant benchmarks for the Graziadio School. This fall we welcomed the largest class of full-time M.B.A. students in our school's history," said Dr. Linda Livingstone. "In a time when many business schools have been challeged by decreasing student enrollment, this drasmatic increase --- up more than 305 from last year --- was both a testment to the quality of our curriculum as well as the hard work of our committed staff and faculty. This year's class boasts an average GMAT score of 636 and includes students from more than a dozen countries." *4 A distiguished group of professors is offering speeches and seminars to business owners and executives. Please join Dean Linda A. Livingstone for a special series on executive leadership hosted by the Graziadio School of Business and Management. You may learn what some of today's leading business authors have to say about effectively communicating vision and strategy, building and maintaining a company's reputation, leading an organization to greater success, and much more. "One of the Graziadio School's core is its ability to successfully address the unique challenges of executive learning. This forum is an important part of an effort to extend Pepperdine's reputation and recognition in this arena. It provides an opportunity for world-class thought leaders in knowledge creation, knowledge dissemination, and knowledge utilization to come together in an informal setting to discuss the key challenges of executive learning and leadership development ," said Dr. Robert Fulner.*5 "Rapidly accelerating change is the critical challenge in virtually every industry today. The complexities of our world demand managers and workers with dramatically increased capavilities. The Graziadio School has been developing value-center leaders for more than a quater century. During that time, it has become the premier provider of quality business talent in California and the western United States." said Dr. Linda Livingstone*6 Pepperdine Pepperdine University MBA ranks first in 15 schools of California.*7 Recently, the Los Angeles Business Journal ranked and reported that Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management was named "the pacesetter" in MBA education in Los Angeles County. The School retained top ranking ahead of USC's Marshall School of Business and The Anderson School at UCLA which placed second and third respectively. As the market share leader in California, graduates of MBA annually from Graziadio School are more than any other school in the state. It is the sixth largest AACSB-accredited school in the United States. The success of this school should be credited to its fruitful efforts to delivering practical, results-oriented education that addresses the needs of working professionals and executives. Dr. Livingstone received her B.S., M.B.A., and Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University. She assured her responsibilities as the Dean of the School on June 1, 2002. Dr. Livingstone brought an international perspective to Pepperdine University. She helped develop and teach courses in an MBA program in Jinan, China. She expressed a keen interest in building additional bridges between Pepperdine MBA curriculum and the corporate world based on her prior experience in developing semester-long consulting projects with major companies for MBA students. "Our Graziadio School is an outstanding business school with a national reputation. It is one of only a few schools across the country that has the potential to build a national and international reputation across all of its programs customized for executives, full-time, and fully employed students. And it is probably the only school with a faith-based mission committed to developing values-centered leaders that can accomplish this goal," said Dr. Livingstone. At the time of Dr. Linvingstone's appointment, Dr. Tony Lei wished her endeavor to lead the Graziadio School into this millennium with academic excellence, practicality expertise, and spiritual values. A special program of MBA/PKE designed for presidents and key executives internationally is in ugent need for the cooperation of the Graziadio School and WBTI. "The spirit of both innovation and pioneers has motivated America to be a leading and prosperous country in the world. As an integrative academic program of the professional education directed to substantial gains in executive competence, modern technology, innovative knowledge, and spirit of entrepreneurship; an unique feature of one week workshop in Las Vegas for the cooperated MBA/PKE Program should be designed for the Chinese speaking business executives and owners of the international world mainly from China, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute.*8 Coordinated with the faculty members recently, Dr. Tony Lei has designed educational programs of the CPM and MBA/PKE with Dr. Keong Leong; the CMPA and MPA/SME with Dr. Lee Bernick; and the CEH with Dr. William Thompson for the GSBPA of WBTI. "It's a great market in China for our MBA programs with WBTI's Graduate School of Business and Public Administration," talked Dean Livingstone with Dr. Tony Lei, who sat next to her during the Dinner Party at the Tropicana on May 14, 2004 in Las Vegas. "I'd like Dr. Terry Young go together with your Graduate School for the launching of our MBA programs. Dr. Young is in charge of the international management programs for our Graziadio School of Business and Management," she continued. -------------------------------- References *1. It's good to post the following news of arts here in Las Vegas: Friday, May 14, 2004 Copyright @ Las Vegas Review-Journal Dance and Romance Nevada Ballet Theatre presents the romantic ballet 'Giselle' this weekend By KEN WHITE REVIEW-JOURNAL ***Natalia Chapourskaya performs the title role in Nevada Ballet Theatre's season-finale production of "Giselle." Nevada Ballet Theatre's production of the classic romantic ballet "Giselle," first performed by the company in 2001, returns this weekend to the Judy Bayley Theatre at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.*2 As in 2001, Natalia Chapourskaya dances the title role while Kyu Dong Kwak is the male lead, Albrecht. To date, Chapourskaya has danced the "Giselle" lead in only two productions, the first time seven years ago while a prima ballerina with the St. Petersburg Company in Russia, and the Nevada Ballet Theatre. This will be Kwak's second full-length production of "Giselle" -- he had only danced the second act while with the Universal Ballet in South Korea before dancing Albrecht three years ago with the local ballet company. Featuring the original libretto by Theophile Gautier and librettist Vernoy de Saint-Georges on a theme by Heinrich Heine, with music by Adolphe Adam and choreography by Nevada Ballet Theatre artistic director Bruce Steivel, "Giselle" is based on choreography by Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot and Marius Petipa. The ballet had its world premiere more than 160 years ago at the Theatre de l'Academie Royale de Musique in Paris, with an original cast consisting of Carlotta Grisi as Giselle and Lucien Petipa as Albrecht. "Giselle" was created for Grisi because Gautier was in love with more than just her dancing ability. The original production was such a success that a style of hat and a type of fabric were named after it. In the story, Albrecht is a prince who dons a disguise as a commoner and seeks the love of a peasant girl, Giselle, against a rival suitor, Hillarion. Eventually, Albrecht is exposed for what he is, Giselle finds out he is promised to another woman, and she goes mad, collapses and dies. The second act takes place in a woodland inhabited by the Wilis, girls who have been jilted and died before being wed. Any mortal who enters is doomed to die. Albrecht does so, and the Wilis attempt to dance him to death, but Giselle rescues him. The ballet wraps up with a dose of irony when Giselle dies again with Albrecht looking on. It's a very physical role, Chapourskaya said of Giselle. "You must be calm but very light." Kwak likes it for its drama. "I love a story ballet, you can really get into it. We both enjoy it very much. You don't just pretend, you get into the ballet. It's one of the most famous pure, classical ballets."*3 ------------------------- PREVIEW what: Nevada Ballet Theatre's "Giselle" when: 8 p.m. today; 2 p.m., 8 p.m. Saturday; 1, 4:30 p.m. Sunday where: Judy Bayley Theatre, UNLV, 4505 S. MAMMOGRAMS EVERY WOMAN OVER AGE 40 NEEDS A MAMMOGRAM.... EVERY YEAR! Mammograms are available in your neighborhood with the Mammovan for Nevada!*4 Please Call Toll Free (877) 581-6266 For Information And Appointments Overview: Nevada Health Centers, Inc. (NVHC) was founded in 1977 as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and currently has 15 clinical sites throughout Nevada. Wendover Community Health Center, located in Elko County, opened its doors to serve the community with quality health care in 1999. In addition NVHC also operates the Mammovan for Nevada. The Mammovan is a mobile mammography van that travels to underserved areas of our state to provide clinical breast exams, mammograms and Pap smears to women who are uninsured and probably would not seek out these services on their own. The Mammovan, which began operating in 2000, was made possible through a grant secured by Senator (then Congressman) John Ensign. The First Lady of Nevada, Dema Guinn is a spokeswoman for our project and from time to time travels with the Mammovan to encourage women in the neighborhoods we visit to get their mammograms. Target Population-- Not having insurance is a barrier for many women to get a mammogram but it is clear it is not the only barrier. Our community out-reach efforts help break down some of the barriers that have more to do with lack of education, cultural belief systems and language difficulties than cost. Four employees who work with the Mammovan program speak fluent Spanish. Our health education efforts extend to agencies that help support the Mammovan by encouraging their clientele to make appointments for our services and by providing the Mammovan with a place to park. These agencies include but are not limited to Family Resource Centers, Hispanic Services, State and County Health Departments, Tribal Health Centers, Corporations, Senior Centers, Churches, and Community Centers. The advantage of the Mammovan is we can go to where the women are. We try to do most of our advertising in the neighborhoods where we will be providing services and take a sister-to-sister approach in encouraging women to make appointments for their mammograms, breast exams and Pap smears. Services Provided-- The Mammovan provides clinical breast exams, Pap smears, mammograms and breast health education to women in need. Staffing-- The Mammovan Project employs a Mammography Technologist, Physician Assistant, Medical Assistant, Receptionist, Scheduler, Community Out-Reach Coordinator, Driver and an Operations Manager. Our entire team is passionate about women's health care and we are proud of the fact that the Mammovan is the only place in Nevada where women can go to receive all their women's health screening services in one visit. Our lead radiology group is West Valley Imaging that has offices in both Las Vegas and Reno. Every patient who has a mammogram is informed of her results and tracked until breast cancer can be ruled out or diagnosed. Our Physician Assistant ensures that women who need follow-up services such as ultrasound, magnification views and/or biopsies receive them. Federal Designation-- Serves HPSA areas. Special Populations/Health Issues: In keeping with the mission of NVHC, the Mammovan seeks to serve the underserved population, targeting women age 40 and over. The Mammovan also provides services for women under 40, who are physician referred or who present with a problem. Our intention is similar to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation (who is one of our supporters) "to capture and increase the number of asymptomatic individuals undergoing screening mammography for the early detection of breast cancer."*5 Funding: State of Nevada Dema Guinn - First Lady of Nevada Susan Komen Shahen Foundation United Way Women's Health Connection Nevada Bell ---------------------------- References *1. *1. ENTERTAIMENTS. ARTS, AND RECREATION ***** Tuesday, May 4, 2004 #First Edition Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88%88% ------------------------------ 'Laws of Attraction' is way too sweet and way too predictable By Carol Cling Through the courtesy of Las Vegas Review-Journal, the following is a complete post from "This Week's NEON" of the newspaper. It is appeared today on its reviewjournal.com: Friday, April 30, 2004 Copyright @ Las Vegas Review-Journal MOVIE REVIEW: Sugar Shock 'Laws of Attraction' is way too sweet and way too predictable By CAROL CLING REVIEW-JOURNAL Rival divorce attorneys Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) and Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) square off in 'Laws of Attraction." When you're in a bubbly mood, there's nothing worse than flat champagne. (Or stale ginger ale, for that matter.) Yet that's the overall impact -- or, more precisely, lack of impact -- "Laws of Attraction" makes. It works hard to whip up a frothy, opposites-attract romance between two battling divorce lawyers we know are fated to be mated. Not because there's any inherent chemistry or attraction between them, but that's what the script says, so that's what the movie does. And is it ever frustrating to watch. It's painful to see dramatic powerhouse Julianne Moore, one of the best actresses around (catch "Far From Heaven" or "The Hours" for proof), struggle to create something, anything, out of nothing. It's even more painful to witness Moore fidget and fuss trying to drum up some comic chemistry with leading man Pierce Brosnan, who may be a dramatic lightweight but seems far more at home in the movie's fairy tale world. Ms. Moore, we have two words for you: lighten up. Unfortunately, director Peter Howitt ("Johnny English," "Sliding Doors") stole those two words for himself. Even more unfortunately, he seems to confuse lightness with lack of substance. But it's not all his fault. After all, if it ain't on the page, it definitely ain't on the soundstage. And "Laws of Attraction" definitely ain't on the page. The screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna ("Three to Tango") and "Steel Magnolias" playwright Robert Harling ("Soapdish," "The First Wives Club") quickly sets up its predictable premise: the ongoing war of words between uptight, upstanding Audrey Woods (Moore) and raffish Daniel Rafferty (Brosnan), who's never met a dirty trick he didn't like, in or out of the courtroom. Quicker than you can say "Objection, your honor," Daniel's pursuing Audrey from bar to barroom, with Audrey protesting (a bit too loudly) all the way. And then a few drinks with, and a few winks from, Daniel warm her up -- until she sobers up, that is. Their professional approach-avoidance tango reaches a climax when they find themselves on opposite sides of a tabloid-worthy divorce case pitting brainless rock star Thorne Jamison ("Underworld's" suitably screaming Michael Sheen) against his fashion designer wife Serena ("A Mighty Wind's" Parker Posey, more pouty than perky this time out). The couple's legal wrangling centers on who gets custody of their ancient Irish castle where -- you guessed it -- Daniel and Audrey travel to interview the castle staff. Separately, of course, until each discovers that the magic of Ireland (not to mention the magic of Irish whiskey) can turn romantic fancies into realities. Reluctant romance, of course, has been a comedic staple for centuries. And if you need a reminder of how effective -- and how effervescent -- it can be, may I refer you to the works of William Shakespeare? Or, perhaps, Woody Allen? If only screenwriters McKenna and Harling had bothered to steal from the best all the way through. Instead, they start off with a classic (Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin's 1949 script for "Adam's Rib," which starred Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn as squabbling attorney spouses) and go downhill from there, borrowing bits and pieces from so many movies that "Laws of Attraction" tastes like overcooked leftovers from multiple meals. Indeed, they're so busy tossing tidbits into the plot pot they forget to add the most crucial ingredient: motivation, which might explain why the central characters do the myriad lunatic things they do. Yes, to paraphrase the great Martha and the Vandellas, love makes you do foolish things. But there's a difference between depicting foolish things and explaining them -- a difference "Laws of Attraction" clearly doesn't understand. Director Howitt tries to distract us with some tired slapstick, but the frenetic pacing only serves to highlight the movie's curiously choppy quality. And so does the Cuisinart-style editing. Somewhere, lying on the cutting-room floor, there may be scenes that explain why the movie's characters do the things they do and feel the way they feel. But you'd never know it from watching "Laws of Attraction." Most of the fun the movie generates -- and we use the term "fun" loosely -- comes from its supporting characters, who don't have to do any heavy lifting to keep the story's gears grinding. That enables Frances Fisher to score some genuine zingers as Audrey's mother, a serial divorcee as flighty as Audrey is focused. "Saturday Night Live" veteran Nora Dunn also has some fun with her role as a stern Judge Judy stand-in. Both Moore and Brosnan prove effortlessly easy on the eyes, of course. But neither turns out to be easy on the brain -- or, even more crucially, the heart. All too often, their relationship resembles the gooey, chewy Sno Balls for which they share an inexplicable predilection. (Maybe Brosnan got addicted to them while filming "The Mirror Has Two Faces" with Barbra Streisand, whose character ingested mass quantities of them.) In short, it's puffy, tooth-numbingly sweet -- and full of empty calories. Just like "Laws of Attraction" itself. *****This Week's NEON REVIEW movie: "Laws of Attraction" running time: 90 minutes rating: PG-13; sexual situations, profanity verdict: C now playing: Cinedome, Colonnade, Neonopolis, Orleans, Rainbow, Rancho, Sam's Town, Showcase, Sunset, Texas, Village Square ----------------------------- References *1. "Concepts, and ideas are infinite. Therefore, I feel comfortable incorporating ordinary things around me into my artwork. A good foundation with deep cultural roots has, without limiting me unduly, provided me with the security and strength to pursue my creativity." Tassananchalee said the themes in his work "are developed from my life experience, which is a balance between two hemispheres of the globe. With the stable mind of the Thai artist, I am on my own journey, combining East and West together in my work. Since I have been on this path for a long time, I have discovered that the basis for creating quality art is rooted in an artist living a candid and honest lifestyle. The goal is to express the values of mankind in works of art that will endure forever. Shelley Berkley has been recognized for her community service and commitment. Shelley and husband Dr. Larry Lehrner now reside in Northwest Las Vegas. Shelley's son Max studies at the University of Arizona, while son Sam attends Bonanza High School in Las Vegas. Dr. Lehrner's son David attends classes at Indiana University, while daughter Stephanie is enrolled in the medical school at Western University of Health Science in Pomona, CA.*5 It's our pleasure to post the following literature by the Office of Congresswoman Shelley Berkley at its website:*6 BERKLEY VOTES TO PROTECT MEDICARE AGAINST PRIVATIZATION Southern Nevada Seniors Could Face Thousands in Out-of-pocket expenses, Annual Premiums of $1,950. (November 22, 2003 -- Washington, D.C.) U.S. Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV) today voted against Republican-sponsored prescription drug legislation (H.R.1) that would open the door to Medicare privatization, force seniors to pay thousands of dollars in premiums and prescription drug costs and drive millions of older Americans into HMOs "This plan promises more to HMO's and drug companies than it does to seniors faced with rising drug costs," said Congresswoman Berkley. "I support a prescription drug plan under Medicare, but not one that showers billions of dollars on insurance companies while leaving seniors to face thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs," Berkley said, noting that the bill gives $17 billion to PPOs and HMOs to lure seniors away from traditional Medicare. "The real goal of the Republican prescription drug plan is to open the door to the privatization of Medicare, a program that has protected America's seniors for decades." Berkley was one of 215 Representatives opposing the bill. A late-night vote on the legislation scheduled to last 15 minutes was held open for three hours by Republican leaders desperate to overcome an initial 216-218 loss. "Republican leaders struggled for three hours to get this bill passed anyway they could and I can only imagine that deals that were cut and the arms that were twisted," said Berkley Berkley also criticized provisions in the bill that would block re-importation of drugs from other countries at lower prices and prevent Medicare from negotiating better deals with drug makers to lower drug prices for seniors. "Republicans bowed to drug industry pressure and are out to prevent Medicare from using the buying power of 40 million Americans to negotiate better prices. If the VA can bargain for better prices on medicine for our veterans, why are Republicans blocking Medicare's ability to use the same bargaining chip?," Berkley said. The legislation also creates a gap in coverage, where seniors are left to pay 100% of their own prescription drug costs. "Some Las Vegas seniors will pay $4,000 out of their first $5,000 in drug costs under this plan -- that is not what I call comprehensive prescription drug coverage," said Berkley, describing the cost of the benefit to a senior earning more than $13,000 per year. Berkley also noted that a so-called "premium support" provision in the plan could leave Nevada seniors with some of the nation's highest annual premiums. "Under the GOP's prescription drug plan, seniors living in Clark County could be paying almost $2000 a year in Medicare premiums, while seniors in other parts of the U.S. would pay less than $700," she said. The premium support provisions in H.R.1 call for the selection of six demonstration projects nationwide. Las Vegas is one of the sites under consideration for this trial. A recent analysis by the Department of Health and Human Services shows that the premium support system would result in dramatic disparities in premiums for traditional Medicare within states and regions, and across the country. For instance, a senior in Clark County would pay $1,950 annually in premiums, while a senior in Davidson County, North Carolina would pay $675 annually. Finally, the plan would erode retiree coverage for almost three million seniors, including 15,000 Nevadans, who have good drug coverage now through retiree health plans. The GOP plan discriminates against seniors with retiree health coverage by excluding such coverage from counting toward spending for the catastrophic benefit.*7 On February 23, 2004, U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley wrote Dr. and Mrs. Tony Lei that,"Thank you for your generous contribution to my re-election campaign. I greatly appreciate your support. Please know that your help makes a significant difference. I look forward to continuing my service in Congress and shall endeavor to serve in the manner that merits your confidence in me." *8 Shelley Berkley is born a leader. Shelley is an educated leader. Shelley is a prctical and bright leader since her college life. She received her juris doctorate degree from San Deigo Law School. She was the former Regent of University and Colleges of Nevada. She has been Executive Advisor for Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) since 1996. Her successful leadership both good in work performance and human relations has won all her assistants' and followers' full and sincere respects. In order to celebrate Shelley Berkley's winning as U. S. Congresswoman, elected as a member of the International Relations Committee (IRC) of the Congress, and Dr. Tony Lei as her Senior Advisor; Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) and Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada (CAAAN) established the "Literature and Academic Forum" ("LAF") in 1999. It has been brought to you by Las Vegas Review-Journal through http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti. *9 At the time when Shelley was elected as the Member of IRC, she told Las Vegas Review-Journal that to promote the tourism, trade, and investment with foriegn countries for Nevada and our states is her primary interest. Her emphasis is enhancing the 2004 mission of WBTI: (1). To encourage and promote academic research, community service, humane spirit, and educational programs. (2). To launch and participate events and projects for the development and cooperation of tourism, education, business, and culture.*10 We are pleased to welcome her good wishes to all our citizens, residents, and visitors of Nevada that "I look forward to continuing my service in Congress and shall endeavor to serve in the manner that merits your confidence in me." *11 The following is the whole statement of the Press Release that we received from the Office of Governor Kenny Guinn:*12 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 8, 2004 Contact Greg Bortolin or John Trent 775-684-5670 GOV. GUINN ANNOUNCES state receives $6.4 MILLION FEDERAL GRANT for people living with hiv/aids CARSON CITY - Governor Kenny Guinn announced today that the Nevada State Health Division¡¦s Bureau of Community Health has received continuation grant funding of $6.4 million for the Ryan White Title II program.*13 The grant allows the State of Nevada to provide significant funding throughout the state for drug assistance to individuals infected with HIV/AIDS who meet eligibility criteria. The program, AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), will help Nevada provide medical care, support services and prescription drugs. "I am proud to say that currently, the Nevada ADAP continues to serve clients without a waiting list," Gov. Guinn said. "Because of this important funding, no client goes without their HIV medication." The funding supplements more than $4.4 million that Las Vegas received in an earlier grant. The grant to Nevada is part of a $1.03 billion award shared among all states and U.S. territories from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to medical care, the grant enables participants to receive direct services, such as case management and outreach activities.
