Some e-mails for the Induction Ball and Party of ARRCN-CC on April 24, 2005 in Las Vegas By Jun Policarpio, Dr. Jasmine Brooks, Dolly DeLeon, Julie Hereford, and Elena BradySubject: Confirming Attendance at AARC-Clark County I will attemd your event on Sunday, April 24th. Jun Policarpio* White House Liaison NAARC Chairman & President New York State Asian American Republican Coalition *Chairman & President of New York State Asian American Republican Coalition, Jun Policarpio's e-mail [junpolicarpio@yahoo.com] to Dr. Tony Lei on April 19, 2005. --------------------------------------------- I am honored. Look forward to see you there. Jas.* *President of Asian American Republican Coalition-CC, Dr. Jasmine Brooks's e-mail to Dr. Tony Lei on April 19, 2005 soon after she received the FWD of the above e-mail from him. --------------------------------------------- I MAY NOT HAVE A VOICE WITH YOU ALL -- BUT HEAR ME ANYWAY : LET'S GO FORWARD AND HAVE FUN ON SUNDAY AND SALUTE ALL OF YOU WHO WORK SO HARD TO PUT THIS EVENT TOGETHER. CHEERS, DOLLY DE LEON --------------------------------------------- As we have all spend a lots of time to discuss and to try to understand the messages from Elena's email. I mentioned to most of you I will try to send her a response and copy you on it. I intended to write a short and congenial one, but after I learned that she called and bashed and threaten Jas again this evening, I added more, and now it's a long one, hope it won't bore you, I promise this will be the last long ones! And please forgive the "repeats", and grammars & spellings, I am pretty exhausted from all these time wasting debates and clarifications. But, it may serve some future references when this conflict becomes a State or County Party issue. So bear with me! And, thank you for your patience and support of the GROUP GOAL.! Julie Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2005 23:23:33 -0700 To: "ELENA BRADY" [bradies@charter.net] From: "Julie C. Hereford" [jch@alltec-us.com] Subject: Re:Your comment on Induction Program Cc: Bcc: X-Attachments: Thanks for your email. I would like to offer the following to help put the current status of the Induction Program into a more positive perspective. RE: FAMILY AFFAIR: It does appear in the program that the "Kerns" name was repeated through out the program. But, this is the result of 6 meetings (all members were invited) dedicated to the gala and the program based on the group discussion and roles "volunteered" by various members attended the meetings. Mrs. Kerns volunteered to be the Chairwoman for the Special Event Committee during the first meeting on 1/16/05 with no OBJECTION from the floor. She made a generous offer of her granddaughter to sing the National Anthem (nobody offered a 2nd choice). The fact the group decided to invite Judge Kerns to speak was to help to recognize the only Asian Republican Judge being Re-Elected in this town and to celebrate his victory as a "ROLE MODEL" for the Asian American Republicans (there may be other underline political issues that this group is not aware of). In this case, it is only a coincidence that the "Kerns" name was mentioned more than once. But, bear in mind, if any member had proposed a more accomplished Asian American Politicians for this group to honor at this particular moment, there would have no objection or argument about it. Gene Gamboa was at the meeting yesterday and reconfirmed that he"Will" be the Master of Ceremony (which was discussed, approved by all the members at the meeting & accepted by Gene on 3/12/05). RE: Recognizing VIPs- this was part of discussion during yesterday's meeting. You should be recognized as many others. RE: COHESIVENESS: There may be a few members have not attend the meetings. But, the meetings (on 2/27, 3/6, 3/12, 3/31, 4/9, 4/18) had been conducted according to by-law and Roberts' rule as closely as this young (4 months old) organization is capable of performing. The results may not be perfect or ideal, but, since I have been to all of them (except one on 3/6/05), I can safely said that Jas Brooks took her responsibility as an "ELECTED" President for this group very effectively and conducted meetings in a very business like manner. She does not conduct group meeting with favoritism nor special attention to certain member with certain personal agenda. It has not been easy for her and the group to spend so much time on the Induction Ball with only a few members (who take this group & it's mission statement seriously). Personally, I have always voiced my desire to set "Team Building" as the top priority rather than put on a high profiled event hastily. Nevertheless, I followed the majority and put in as much time as most everyone else to help get the event ready. Even though I will not be in town for the gala, I still help sold 22 tickets to my friends. They all are prospective members if this "Gala" can go on without further bomb throwing. Six months ago you came in town assembled a hand full of Asian Republican Volunteers (myself included) where very few of us know each other well. Since this is a political group (from different Asian cultures) on a volunteer basis, it was difficult for most of the members (yourself included! Remember the debates we had in which Jacquie & I alerted you that you need to take time to build this coalition carefully) to recognize that it would "REQUIRE" a lots of time to get to know each other and their cultures. Now there is a difference in defining "Cohesiveness" between the members who attended most or all meetings and the members who did not attend most of the meetings. From the frequent meetings we had recently, the current group have grown to know each other better and getting more comfortable in discussing issues and making decisions together, this can be evidenced by meeting minutes in which this group has been working together towards our mission statement No. 1-To promote integration of "different" Asian American into a single, cohesive, strong and vibrant political entity to enable us to play an effective role in mainstream politics. On this issue, frankly I am perplexed in your "DISPLEASURE" of the progress this group is making. Are we being too "INDEPENDENT"? If you will, kindly define what you mean by "Not Cohesive" It may help if you would review all the Minutes of Meeting and then give us your "Constructive" advises from the point of Mission Statement and the "By-Law"! You asked us to let you know what went wrong, this may be it, we simply don't understand to which or what information you are based on to describe this hardworking group as "NOT COHESIVE"! It is not based on facts and records, it unfortunately is based on hear says and twisted perceptions, it shows no regards to the future growth of this organization. We do not understand nor can accept the intent of this accusation. I sincerely hope that you are smart enough not to be manipulated by some disgruntle members, these members have not really contributed much, yet is bitter about the lack of attention to them on the individual basis. THIS IS NOT A SOCIAL CLUB, IT IS A SERIOUS POLITICAL GRASS ROOT COALITION. One must show their commitment from actions, not double talks. There is a strong indication that some of the member simply not comfortable with a NO-NONSENSE TEAM concept, thus there is a sever "identity crisis". If you are aiding and encouraging this kind of behavior, I am afraid your leadership will be going down with them. For I am quite confident that this group now is COHESIVE (and legitimate) enough to go on (with or without some of the members) to achieve the great causes that motivated most of us originally. I must remind you that I (and most of the members) will only dedicate our loyalty to the great cause and the traditional value that GOP shares. If you are in agreement with this, let us work together. If not, let us part company gracefully without "LOSING FACE" for Asian American community. To sum it up, it is understandable that you as a founder of AARCN felt somewhat out of touch with this new group lately. It is not by anyone's design or wish, but due to the geographic distance, as well, the planning of the details of the Induction Gala moved very fast. It would not have taken this much time if Jas did not feel the need to include the inputs from every member who care enough to come to the meeting. Once again, the program may have flaws, but it is the first challenge for the group to function as a team. And the team was not quite ready by any means when the gala idea was presented by you in January right after the election. Yet everyone is working hard to make it happen, as well, making it as successful as possible. If you are truly a leader, you should be proud and overjoyed by the impressive fundraising job Hui Lim did, yet, all you can think of was that you are being left out! How sad! Don't you agree that Hui Lim should also deserve 3 minutes of glory for someone chose not to take a title from the very beginning. Where is your leadership? Where is the team spirit? Let's look beyond the Gala, when this "TEAM" can spend time to focusing on building a larger and stronger group, and, to develop a very close working relationship with the Republican Party to advance all the agendas listed in the Mission Statement for the Asian American Republican who lives and works in this ever-growing community. And, if you still have problem with the way we are going, you may like to make a choice to disassociate with this group and start another group that will suit you better. But, in the name of Asian Community, the gala should go on without further conflicts. Sincerely, Julie --------------------------------------------- Hi guys, IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION REGARDING THE ORDER OF YOUR PROGRAM. IT LOOKS OKAY BUT IT LOOK LIKE A "FAMILY" AFFAIR, DUE TO A LAST NAME APPEARING THREE TIMES IN THE PROGRAM. I WOULD APPEAL TO YOU TO CHANGE ONE Or TWO THINGS HERE. I AM SURE YOU WANT TO LOOK IMPARTIAL TO COMMUNITY WE SERVE AND THEREFORE, WE NEED TO GIVE AS MUCH APPEARANCE AS IMPARTIAL. PLEASE BE APOLOGETIC AS YOU APPROACH MRS. K ON THIS. SHE IS THE SENSITIVE ONE. I do not like paying and attending a program for a family affair. We have many qualified pastors, members of the party that have done so much, campaigning hard in last years elections - Give them the honor to pray or be in the program. We have great Asian Americans in this state. We should be inclusive and a team player with the Republican Party of NV. We are a coalition group and we have an agenda. We have many dignitaries that are coming to this affair, include in your program a time to be introduced or recognized. To also let you know, I have worked many hours and spent thousands of dollars to bring us to where we are right now. Ask me where we are as a coalition and I will let you know and better yet why don't you give me three minutes to speak at your event. Not that I want to glory but it shows our "cohesiveness" that we all talk about all the time. If this is too much to ask then please let me know where I have gone wrong. Call me please. April 24, 2005 events by AARCN-CC will further unify our Asian American Community By Dr. Jasmine BrooksAARCN and NAARC Members: This will serve as a formal notice that AARCN – Clark County (AARCN – CC) Induction Ball will be held at Wellington Place (formerly known as La Chateaux), located at 6985 W. Sahara Ave; LV, NV 89117 on April 24, 2005. Event will begin promptly at 5:30pm, all AARCN – CC Executive Board and planning committee members should arrive no later than 4:30pm. Regarding the NAARC’s Leadership Conference, the following is a brief summarization and update: During March 27, 2005 teleconference, a motion to have the National Leadership Conference at Wellington Place on April 24, 2005 at the same location as AARCN – CC Induction Ball, was brought to the floor and received unanimous decision by NAARC’s officers and members. However, just recently, there have been new recommendations to have the conference at a different location, which is to be hosted by the very competent Dolly Deleon and congenial Tess Smith. Subsequent to my conversation with Dr. Carlota, and Tess Smith on April 15 and 16, 2005; I then brought this matter to the AARCN – CC Executive Board. Due to the time constrains, with Induction Ball only a week away, the Board felt quite uncomfortable with the continuous changes in venue. Therefore the AARCN – CC Executive Board’s decision is to withdraw from the planning and execution of the National Leadership Conference. AARCN – CC will assume an impartial role in this matter. Notwithstanding the foregoing, AARCN – CC will maintain its support, and assist in the implementation of the National Leadership Conference. We will now cancel all plans in progress regarding the National Leadership Conference schedule and extradite its preparation in total to Mrs. Dolly Deleon and Tess Smith, who have been extremely gracious in its commencement. The AARCN – CC is very excited for the up coming events with NAARC. The Leadership Conference will be a success with Dolly Deleon and Tess Smith at the helm. Concurrently, the AARCN – CC Induction Ball (Co-Chaired by Vivian Kerns and Tess Smith @ the Event Planning Committee) will also achieve significant success. April 24, 2005 events will further unify our Asian American Community. I look forward to seeing everyone there. Should you have questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact me. Within the library’s museum are photographs and memorabilia of President Reagan’s life, a full-scale replica of the Oval Office and a large section of the Berlin Wall. President Reagan is resting in the garden of the library, and currently a permanent exhibit of AIR FORCE ONE (President Reagan’s Plane) is in progress. The American Riviera - Santa Barbara is touted as the American Riviera and one of California’s foremost vacation areas. The four hours stop will give you a chance to walk along the beautiful beach front, or a stroll along the shopping district of State Street, we will have a sunset dinner at the Moby Dick’s on the Stern Wharf. Your own Sideways Experience - Along the way to Solvang- a storybook-like Dutch town, you will see the beautiful Pacific Coastal Line. We will spend the night at Scandinavian Royal Inn, a country inn setting near some of the well know vineyards. The following morning, there will be leisure time for everyone to stroll around the village on your own to check out some unique shops and enjoy some authentic “Danish” pastries. Lunch @ Bit O’ Denmark will be a Danish Smorgasbord. After lunch we will have a chance to visit some Wineries as seen in the Academy Award Winner-SIDEWAYS. WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ARW? Asians in America---We’re the fastest growing ethnic Americans! By Tiffany ChangIt is our pleasure to post an article written by Rita Villadiego about the National Asian American Republican Coalition (NAARC). It was entitled "Fil-Am elected as head of Asian-American Republican coalition". The article was released by the Philipino Express Online. It was found by us in Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) through the searching of "Dr. Jasmine Brooks" on the Google.com at March 19, 2005: Fil-Am elected as head of Asian-American Republican coalition By Rita Villadiego*2 Washington, D.C., January 28, 2005 --- Vowing to empower Asian Americans, Dr. Sonny Carlota, a Filipino-American based in Tennessee was unanimously elected chairman of the National Asian American Republican Coalition (NAARC). “I’m proud to be a Tennessean of Filipino descent,” said Dr. Carlota who shone in politics in 1983 when he was elected as Vice Mayor of Lakeland, his home city, in 1993. Other elected officers of the Coalition were Dr. Grace Shu (PA), 1st Vice Chair; Elena Brady (NV)*2, 2nd Vice Chair; Dolly de Leon (NV)*3, Secretary; Tran Dinh Truong (NY), Treasurer. “We’ve got work to do. The stakes are high. We need to empower the 13 million Asian Pacific Americans politically, economically, and socially,” said Carlota. “We’re the fastest growing ethnic Americans. Yet there’s a long list of unmet needs in the community.” Carlota was appointed by President Bush to the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in 2001-2003. He chaired the Commission’s SubCommittee on Health which prepared a comprehensive report on health disparities among Asian Pacific Americans. Right recommendations on solving the Asian health needs were an integral part of the report submitted to the President. The NAARC is a diverse group of community leaders representing the major Asian Pacific Islander population that helped determine the final outcome of the 2004 presidential elections, Carlota said.*4 With participatory leadership, the newly elected national chairman said that he would work towards implementing a 5-Point Plan which are to: 1.) Broaden the base of membership nationwide by appointing ethnic co-chairs for each nationality, and have the co-chairs recognized by the State Republican Committees in their respective areas; 2.) Work for the appointment of qualified Asian Pacific Americans in federal, state, and local governments and the private sector; 3.) Encourage and support qualified Asian Pacific American Republicans to run for public office in the federal, state and local levels; 4.) Steer the ethnic republican groups to integrate with the activities of the State and County Republican Committees during primaries, federal, state and local elections; and 5.) Strengthen NAARC’s working relationships with the White House, Republican Senators and Congressmen, the RNC, as well as the State, and local Republican Committees.*5 After the elections, Carlota announced a partial list of appointees to serve as part of his leadership team: Charles Wang (NY), co-chair, Chinese Americans; Paul Blanco (CA), co-chair, Filipino Americans; Dr. Sonny Lee (NJ), co-chair, Korean Americans; Dr. Jasmine Brooks*6 (NV), co-chair, Vietnamese Americans; Dr. Leo Pandac (CA), executive director; Rudy Asercion (CA), communications director; Jun Policarpio (NY), White House liaison; and Augustus Alzona (MD), political director.*7 We are pleased to learn that the Asian American Republican Coalition of Nevada - Clark County Chapter has been established in Las Vegas, Nevada. The most recent Executive Meeting was held by its President, Dr. Jasmine Brooks, at 1:00 p. m. on March 12, 2005. The location was at Suite 217, 6767 W. Tropicana Avenue, in Las Vegas.*8 ----------------------------------------- References *1. Villadiego, Rita.
