U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley honors with the third anniversary of LA Forum by WBTI By Tiffany ChangOn February 8, 2001, it was disclosed by the Las Vegas Review-Joural that Congresswoman Shelley Berkley had been elected as a Member of International Relatons Committee of the Congress in Washington D.C. She expressed that she has received an excellent status as a member of the Committee to advance our economy and trade internationally. The most interesting area for her will be to put emphasis on the promotion of immigration, Asian and Pacific economy and trade, international enterprises, etc.*1 Berkley had big winning as a re-elected Representative of the U.S. Congress on November, 2002. Dr. Tony Lei has been also re-elected as a Member of her Senior Advisory Committee. Her achievement, in working to promote the quality of life of Nevadans at the time as a powerful voice in the Congress for Nevadans, has earned her a good reputation of conscientious and dedicated politician. Shelley received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1976.*2 She graduated in 1972 with honors from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. She has served as Member of American Bar Association, Nevada State Bar Association , Nevada Gaming Attorneys Association, etc. She served as Regent of Nevada's University and Community College Systems Board and Lagislator of Nevada State Assembly. As a legislator, she was recognized by the National Manufacturers Recreational Vehicle as the recipient of the Golden Telephone Award. Shelley's noble and lovely personal traits together with her good human relations skills has made her a successful leader respected and followed by people in working for and with her since she has been an Executive Advisor of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). "Community participation is an asset for enhancing public service. True leadership comes from knowing one's expertise and others' knowledge. Leaders are individuals who help people understand their motivations for doing things. They set the direction and understand why the direction is important. In education, leadership is a call to help others. The leader has the quality that inspires people to do what needs to be done and to feel good about doing it," said Dr. Lei, President of Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). "Shelley's really our leader." In honoring her, on February 8, 2001 WBTI has established on its website (http//communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti) the Literature and Academic Forum to celebrate her success and achievement. WBTI's website has been an offering of the courtesy by Las Vegas Review-Joural through its Community Link. U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley wrote from her Office in Washington, D. C. on July 18, 2000 to Dr. Tony Lei:"I cannot thank you enough of including me in your Institute and in your newsletter. You are a wonderful friend and a fine community leader. I appreciate your support, help, and friendship." *3 January 26, 2004 will be the big date for us to celebrate the 53rd Birthday of U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. A beautiful and colorful card of congratulations will be designed by Dr. Lei and post on the WBTI web. "Nevada Examiner," WBTI, and Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada (CAAAN) extend heartily and sincerely our congratulations to Shelley! --------------------------------------------------- Refrences *1. Some Good Skills for Executives and Leaders By Tiffany Chang"Better executives decision and the development of good leaders are important in any age or in any organization, but the changing face of business and government makes both more important today than perhaps they have ever been before. The decentralization of private companies, public agencies, and even community groups has spread the responsibility for decision-making more broadly at the same time that it has created greater accountability for each individual decision made," said President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute. "The following skills for executives and leaders are helpful: (1) When you are thrust into a responsible position with accentual warning and even less preparation, clearheaded thinking about why you have been appointed to an office and what those who have placed you there expect of you is prerequisite to clear-minded, if not predictable, decision making. (2) Ask what actions are called for in the position, what strategies have worked in the past, and how others have previously responded to the challenges you now face. (3) Realizing your leadership potential depends on making a match between your vision and an organization. The challenge is to find the right opportunity, pick the right moment, and make the right move. (4) Remember personal traits are important to executives and leaders, but such leadership skills as persuasive speaking, persistence in achieving one's agendas, and personal confidence can be developed in office; much of leadership is a learned capacity that need not be limited by birthright or prior experience. (5) Moving yourself through varied and increasingly responsible management experiences develops the personal confidence and diverse skills required to master different, more ambitious arrays of tasks. (6) Pick your associates well, back them fully, empower them with both accountability and responsibility, and they will produce far more than you ever will achieve on your own." *1 There are some more tips to be added: (1) Knowing where you want to go and what your values are can be essential to getting there, to ensuring that all of your interests and concerns are factored into fast-moving decision. (2) Recognizing people's diverse motives for participating is an essential first step in mobilizing their contributions. (3) If you expect those who work for you to exercise their own judgment, provide them with the decision-making experience now. (4) If your leadership depends on theirs, devolving responsibility and sharing stories is a foundation upon which it will reside. (5) A new position of leadership will engender the experience you lack on arrival, and seeking feedback on your performance in the position will ensure that you take advantage of the experience. (6) Thinking strategically when confronted with a crisis or challenge is a learned skill that requires sustained seasoning. *2 @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ ***** The faculty joined President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) in congratulating our Executive Advisor, U. Benton Promise are important to our community. The promise we make today provide the foundation for the work we will do tomorrow. Faithfulness to our heritage ennobles and illuminates all that we do. I have not forgotten the pormise I made in my inaugural address as I took office in the year 2000. Since beginning the leadership opportunity, I continue to believe that our greatest challenge are contained in the areas of resources, deversity, heritage, community, and scholarship. We have managed our resources well during this challenging period. We have increased our diversity. I think our heritage provides light, really good light, for learning. We illumininate lives with immutable truths and notions of oughtness and rightness. We ask no quarter in our competition with the finest, shinning institutions of learning in America, and we offer the brilliance and the unique dimension of values in our classes. We invite the presence of God in the midst of all that we do: that, more than anything else, lights our way. As much as I feel urgency about other things, I feel urgency about fidelity and constancy and stewarship in our heritage of faith. there is power in imagery, and there is power in words. Here are some of the most powerful works I've seen --- our mission statement: "Pepperdine is a christian university committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and Christian values, where students are strenghtened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership." *2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ References *1. The wisdom of happiness and success By PAI, WBTIWe were told that they remember that the following words by Dr. Sun Yet Sien when they were chidren: There are three kind of people --- (1)The people who know earlier; (2)The people who know latter; and (3)The people who do not like to know at all. For the truth, the most important thing in this world is for any of the above people to recgnize and realize it: ---------------------------------------- A positive thinking: With love we'll be like in the heaven By Cheryl Moss, Jessie Walsh, and Tiffany Chang As a sincere believer of God, we found that we can even live as in the heaven in this World at the present. Whether people is living in the Heaven or in the Hell is up to his or her selection. With sincere love, you are likely to live in the Heaven. With cruel hate, you are likely live in the Hell. To fight and destroy each others for property and fame is where the place called Hell. To cooperate with each others to promote our quality of life will be the place where we people may make it as a Heaven. Therfore, the Heaven is where the place full of love while the Hell is where the place full of hate. It is all depending on your heart to see whether you are in the Heaven or in the Hell. By using this standard, you may measure the quality or depth of yours in the Heaven or your in the Hell. According to the oriental (not Asian) ways of life, people would suspect the one who always find out and praise the good characters and accomplishment of others. In the many thousand years of the past, it was one of the factor that hurt the encouragement for innovation and science development for the Asian people and countries. After a full applause by the audience at his speech, a professor automatically spoke his mind: "The people who enthusiastically give a hand to others, will certainly one day get a lot of more applauses!" Everytime when he was encouraged and praised by an individual, Dr. Tony Lei used to remind: "The one who knows how to praise other people, is the one herself or himself having certainly lots of more goodness which are worth for us to praise for!" "I agree with Judge Valorie Vega's idea to be honored as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). She wrote: 'It will undoubtedly provide me with avenuess for exploring improvements in public services to which I am most dedicated.' I'm glad also to share the similar position as its faculty member--- Obligatory Legal Counselor of Pan Pacific and Asian American Forum (PPAAF). "It's significant. Dr. Tony Lei told me that for community service --- that based on 'love in action is service above self' --- the abundanct reward from one's humune love, spiritual excellence, and professionalism of expert are far more greater than solely his or her title," said Jackie Glass, Esq. on April 18, 2002. Jackie is now a famous District Judge of Nevada.*1 People asked another professor whether his speech was wonderful or not. He felt that sometime it was wonderful but sometime not. It all depended on luck. "Only if I've wonderful audience, my speech would be definitely wonderful!" he said. "It's my good experience, like Senator John Ensign's, to be introduced by Dr. Tony Lei to deliver a speech to our Nevadan seniors in the election year of 2000. I'm glad to have a friend like Tony who can merge the modern scientific methodology of management philosophy with the humane spirit and charitable love to the value and belief of the religion. Intelectuals like Nancy Becker, I, Michelle Leavitt, Jessie Walsh, Lisa Brown, Cheryl Moss, Cedric Kerns, Besty Kolkoski, Ann Zimmerman, Natalie Tyrrell, among others in joing with this idea all won in the last election with highest votes within the juridical area. To add to the list including Dr. William Thompson, Dina Titus, and Mark Denton, they are all excellent faculty members of the Public Administraton Institution (PAI) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI)," said District Court Judge Valorie Vega on the event and dinner party held by Asian American Community on April 19, 2002 at the Harbor Palace Seafood Chinese Restaurant in Las Vegas.*2 On May 17, 2002, a dinner party was held by Asian American Community for a special tribute to Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge Michelle Leavitt and Justice of Peace Jennifer Togliatti. It was at the Harbor Palace Chinese Restaurant in China Town, Las Vegas. Kenote Speakers were Michelle and Jennifer. Guest of Honor was District Court (family) Judge Cythia Dianne Steel. Dr. Tony Lei, Chairman of Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada (CAAAN), and Dr. R. D. Prabhu, Chairperson of CAN-DO were Chairmen of the Event and Dinner Party. Hosts were: David Amebury, Steve Kwon, Tonnie Sison, Mike and Rita Vaswani, among others. "In this generation and society, we need economic growth, but we need also growth in rich ideals, in justice and compassion, in service above self, and in action of love and moral courage. There are two princeples athe the heart of the positive thinking road map: (1) the first principle is the truth in thinking. (2) The second principle is the 12 positive thinking traits," says Dr. Tony Lei. "The following are 12 traits that charaterize a positive thinker: Optimism. Enthusiam, Belief, Intelligence, Courage, Integrity, Confidence, Judgement, Persistence, Liveliness, Vision, and Desire to excel. Each trait, when leveraged properly, produces powerful results to achieve our goals. These traits, when diligently and wisely applied together with the truh in thinking, allow us to ovecome obtacles and challenges in a positive manner in our lives for accomplishment." "Develop a clear vision of our prefered future, then get forcused on key activities and efforts that take us in that direction. We shall see performance gains, achieve our goals, and have a happier and more successful life. By persuing our own personal strategic plans with love and service, we will increase our energies, motivations, satisfactions, happiness, and the worthy value of live," Dr. Tony Lei points out. -------------------------------------------------------------------- | |

Believe and Praise Our Lord and We Shall Succeed By Tiffany Chang"You have heard that it was said, 'eye for eye, and mouth for mouth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If....." Mathew 5:38-39 "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." Mathew 6:14 Life is short, and love by God is eternity. As in our Christian belief and value world, we have enjoyed peace and happiness in surrendering all the peak glory to our beloved teacher and God, Jesus. To hate an enemy hurts one's health, let along to bring problems. Man can not fulfil his attemp by lying the facts. People may not see what you did the evil thing, but to God He knows it obviously. On the other hand, when we forgive our enemy even in secrecy, God knows it also. Reward is from our God to the people who believe Him and follow Him to love our friends and to forgive our enemies. "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." Matthew 12:36-37 I believe God. I love God. And I trust God. Praise God that I have advanced knowledge and talents on my endeavor through the good education of American MBA and doctorate. It is not a funny thing to work for a peak accomplishment with both academic excellence and Christian value through humane endeavors in this World. I work hard. I build. I never attack other people. I serve (our friends and community) above self. "Therefore, everyone who hear these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." Matthew 7:24-25 "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesers are angels." Matthew 13:37-39 To kill a mocking bird is not at all necessarilly. Why we need to attack someone who is so happy with our people by just having a 'cup of coffee' in serving others above self? We need more people to praise every good thing. We need also more people to praise every good leader. By this way we are really praising our God. It is because all these good things and peoples are created by God! "'Master,' said John, 'we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.' 'Do not stop him,' Jesus said, 'for whoever is not against you is for you.' " Luke 9:49-50 If a man worked for community service and God by using your name, why you need to stop him immedeately? In God we trust! "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own eyes." Proverbs 26:4-5 In another case, if someone struke down your devil for you and for most of our people in your name, do you need to stop him? In God we trust! "Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old." Matthew 13:52 I am humble. Everything is decided by God. I read Bible every day. I believe the Bible. I love my greatest teacher and truth--Jesus Christ. I am one of the persons who glorify and thank the Almighty. I believe that we trust God will be with those who honor Him. Without Him, I am nothing, let alone to forgive our enemies! In our same community, love makes everything better. It is very easy to find how happy are those birds in my backyard. I believe that it is because they do not hate. How beautiful it is if I am joyful as one individual among lots of them! "Glory to God in the highest. Peace and good tidings to earth." * ( *Tell Me the Story of Jesus by Fanny Crosby and John Sweney from Soul Stirring Songs & Hymns. ) United we stand, devided we fall. Together we can GROW (Go Rich Our World). The columnist wish grace, mercy, peace through JESUS CHRIST our Lord. The bless of God will be with you all! *3 ------------------------------ Refences *1.
