The advance screening and reception held by KLVX on July 19, 2004 in Las Vegas
By PAI of WBTI*1

"It's very successful!" congratulated heartily President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) to Tom Axtell, General Manager of KLVX, and Dr. Sue Fawn Chung, Associate Professor of UNLV, at the completion of the Advance Screening & Reception. It was held by KLVX at the St. Tropez Hotel Las Vegas -- Monte Carlo Room in Las Vegas on July 19, 2004. The theme of the Screening was Island Mountain Days: Discovering Nevada's Chinese Miners.*2

"In the late 1800's Chinese workers came to the United States, as cheap labor, sparking a national anti-Chinese sentiment and hostility. But in the small Nevada town of Island Mountain, people lived in relative harmony. This is the story of a multi-ethnic (Chinese, Native-American, and Euro-American) mining community that thrived in northeastern Elko County from 1873 until after 1917,." reported "Antenna; KLVX".*3

"China Lem opened a Prosperous store. Friendships developed as the men of the area went hunting and fishing. Euro-American families invited the Chinese miners to dinner and the Chinese invited their neighbors to help them celebrate Chinese holidays. Around 1917, Island Mountain disappeared until it was recently rediscovered by a U.S. Forest Service archaeological project," according to the above Publication of KLVX,

On the same topic, a movie will be shown on Wendesday, July 21 at 9 p. m. and repeating Sunday, July 25 at 1 p.m. by KLVX.

The story was based on "A 3-year project (1999-2001) with the U.S. Forest Service, UNR, UNLV, Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, and the Passport in Time volunteers provided me with the opportunity to explore life in the late 19th century Chinese mining community called Island Mountain in northeastern Nevada" by Dr. Sue Fawm Chung.*4

Beside the encouragement of cultural activities, KlVX has produced substantive election campaign and legistlative promming. "We're proud to have hosted so many political forums over the years at KLVX. KLVX will partner with the Las Vegas Review-Journal to solicit candidate questions from readers on its web site that will be used during our debates and forums. Public television offers issue-oriented campaign coverage for thoughtful people. This foster the very best elements of our democratic society and we're glad to have your support as we head into a very exciting political season," said Tom Axtell on his "Message to our Members."*5

outstanding
commitment to their family and may have faced adversity but has
overcome
many challenges. It is also a parent or a guardian who strives to
continually empower and educate their children."

I want to thank you for playing an important role in my career and
personal
growth. I really appreciate the friendship, support and encouragement
you
have given me in the past. I want to share this honor with you.

Sincerely yours,

Becky

Dear Dr. Lei,

Here is the article you requested about social etiquette. Please let me know if it is ok.*3

Becky

Social Etiquette

What is etiquette anyway? Webster's Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language says: "conventional requirements as to social behavior; proprieties of conduct as established in any class or community or for any occasion."

What is graciousness anyway? Webster's again: "disposed to show grace or favor; kind: benevolent; courteous." Yes, yes, yes! We can all do that! We can become kind, benevolent and courteous and it will help us in life! It will pave the way to our success and happiness! I can envision a society where people care about each other and treat each other with graciousness.

I believe so strongly that all social and business situations are about graciousness that I've made it my mission to help as many people as possible to put their best foot forward graciously. I think everyone agrees that having social skills will make us better people, give us more confidence and keep us better connected.

One sure way to learn about social etiquette is try not to make the same mistakes as others. According to a recent study conducted by The Protocol School of Palm Beach, the following are America’s top 10 etiquette pet peeves:

People who make slurping, smacking or clicking noises while eating.

People who conduct private conversations during a meeting.

People who talk on their cell phones in meetings or restaurants.

People who send unsolicited jokes, photos or chain letters over the Internet.

People who constantly interrupt before others have finished talking.

People who don’t cover their mouths when coughing, sneezing or yawning.

People who begin eating before everyone at their table has been served.

People who pick their teeth with their fingers or with a toothpick at the table.

People who don’t acknowledge a gift with a thank-you note.

People who pile a large amount of food on their plate and don’t leave enough food for others.

*****
Yes. It is very useful and practical.

U. S. Senator JOHN ENSIGN CELEBRATED YUCCA DECISION
By GSBPA of WBTI*1

A statement by Senator John Ensign was released by his Office in Wasington, D. C. regarding decision on July 9, 2004 by the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals that sided with the state of Nevada in its fight to stop Yucca Mountain from becoming the nation¡¦s nuclear dumping ground.

"Today's court ruling provides Nevada a crucial legal tool to defeat the Yucca Mountain project once and for all. Our state's legal team should be congratulated for this victory against all those forces that would like to turn Nevada into the country¡¦s nuclear dumping ground. Our united effort, in which Nevadans of all political affiliations joined, is the reason for this victory and our celebration today." stated U. S. Senator John Ensign on July 9, 2004.*2

"I have the passion for the fight and the unshakable belief that together we can build a better Nevada;" under these passion and believe by John, Dr. Tony Lei has worked heartily as one of John's grass roots with wisdom, knowledge, and integrity. John's winning on 2000 exemplified that Tony's effort for John through community service can make a difference for Nevada.

We are pleased to post the article entitled "John Ensign honored as Vice Chairman of the advisory board of WBTI," which was published by "Nevada Examiner" in the winter of 2000:

North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge-elect Natalie Tyrell once wrote a letter of appreciation to Dr. Tony Lei from her Office, "....I want to share with you my favorite quote. It is by the great Winston Churchill. It exemplifies the driving force by which I start out each day. He said, 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' ...." By the act of love itself, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. We encourage people to make service a part of our characters and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others.
U.S. Senator-elect John Ensign's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and taught his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to build and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to America to seek the American dream. Even though not all of them realize their American dream, eventually they could teach and help their children to accomplish their contributions to our country.*3

As a born-again Christian, people have been inspired by his sincererity, humbleness, and credibility much more than just his wealthy and handsome appearance now. On October 15, John attended the worship service of the Liberty Baptist Church. He offered a short speech of testifmony. He said that he was very frustrated with his first taste of political failure, when he lost by a mere 428 votes to U.S. Senator Harry Reid. However, he believes God and has surrendered his fate to God. John's faith in God helped him to overcome his frustration and disappointment and enabled him to continue to strive to succeed. The Bible says "...though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed (1 Peter 1:6-7)". If a window was closed, God might re-open the window or even open a different door for those who are eager to utilize his or her knowledge and expertise to serve. As all Christians acknowledge - with God, anything is possible.

People believed with John that he said, "I have the passion for the fight and the unshakable belief that together we can build a better Nevada." In the Pastor Teis' meeting Office, John agreed with Dr. Tony Lei, also a born-again Chrisitan, that WBTI would honor him as Advisor and Vice Chairman of its Advisory Board. In the first paragraph of this column on September 15, it is stated that on September 7, U.S. Senate Candidate John Ensign wrote: "Please accept my best wishes as you come together in celebration of the Thai Performaning Arts, Appreciation Day 2000. The importance of sharing culture through art and festivities that bring people together serves to enhance all of us more by enriching our lives with the diversity of people and their customs. I especially would like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Tony T. Lei for his commitment and enthusiastic support of the Thai Performing Arts." John received Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree form the Colorado State University in 1985. He accepted Dr. Lei's invitation as a Guest Speaker to talk about protecting Social Security and Medicare for our Nevadan seniors at a Forum held by Seniors United. He believes that America must honor its words to seniors. His scholastic and gentle appearance has won a lot of applause and respect.

In community service, Dr. Tony Lei's hero is the great servant who has given all for the betterment of others' lives. Let our candles fuel a fire that will fan out an ever-lasting circles. With these circles together we can close our eyes and envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. The Bible teaches: "...let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)." District (Family) Court Judge-elect Cheryl Moss wrote Dr. Tony Lei, "I am delighted and honored to be appointed as an Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Thank you for this opportunity to serve, and I hope to gain more knowledge, insight and awareness about public service and community issues through your prestigious institution. I remain dedicated to helping the community, and I am inspired by your leadership, wisdom and guidance. I am also fortunate to have met you and your wife, Judy, because you are both active and dynamic individuals in the community. Your accomplishments and achievements have demonstrated that taking part in the community does make a difference. Best wishes and thank you again for your unselfish kindness, support and encouragement."*4 Power in politics should have a direction that the power based on knowledge is the power of righteousness. We wish that a pure fountain may prosper and enrich our spendid and golden country through the spirit that knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service. "In God we trust. Life is for the purpose to serve our lovely community," Dr. Tony Lei stated.

It is our pleasure to post the following article entitled "It Is Significant to Serve Our Community":

Being dedicated to the 17th anniversary celebrating of Seniors United, Lillian and Julian Wallace wrote a feature article entitled "We Proudly Present to You Two of the Dearest People in the World - Dr. and Mrs. Tony T. Lei." Lillian is President of Seniors United, while Julian is its CEO. The article was published by the famous "Highlights Magazine" on October, 1999. Lillian and Julian wrote that, "Let me clarify, Dr. Lei is not a medical physician. He is a noted professor and President of Washington Business and Technology Institute. He has a background of achievement as long as his arms. During the past years it has put efforts on academic research and social service. Due to its achievement, the Institute is advancing with good reputation both locally and internationally. Governor Kenny Guinn is Chairman of its Advisory Board; U. S. Senstor Harry Reid is Vice Chairman of the Board and several famous scholars as its Directors. The faculty members of the Institute excel in qualification and work performance." Lillian and Julian has recognized this individual by stating that, "Dr. Lei received M.B.A. and Ed. D. in Institutiional Management from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. From 1985-1990, he was an Associate Professor of Management in the Graduate School of Business Administration of National Chunghsing University. He has been promoted as a Fellow of Management since February 21, 1993 at Pepperdine University. Since May 4, 1997, he has been appointed by Las Vegas City and Council as Member of Las Vegas Senior Citizens' Advisory Board. He has also been elected Director of South Shores Community Association with concrete contributions to the community for more than six years."*5

"Dr. Tony Lei is both excellent in teaching and research with good ability and skill in organization and leadership," pointed out the couple with great accomplishment in political and social services. "Julian and I know the length that Leis go for us. Because of these two terrific, caring people, we were honored by being named as Fellows of the Cultural Institution of WBTI."

"The love and friendship that Dr. and Mrs. Tony Lei extend to us is both poignant and meaningful because they are Asian by birth but American by adoption," said Lillian and Julian. "They have also adopted us as their parents because they are so imbused with love and respect for the elderly."

"We love you truly and are looking forward to years and years of being together," they stated. "As an outstanding colleague of Pepperdine University and a distinguished alumnus of Tunghai University, Dr. Tony Lei points out: 'Knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service. We should continue to wok for the prosperity of our society more diligently.'

"Because of his sincere and effective work performance in community service beside his academic endeavor, Dr. Tony Lei has received many important awards from U.S. Senators, U. S. Representatives of the Congrss, Las Vegas City Mayor, Clark County Chairmen, among others. It is significant that Dr. Kenny Guinn, our Governor of Nevada, wrote Dr. Tony Lei: 'It is only with the dedication and commitment of good people like youself that I will achieve my goal of becoming Governor of this great state. Dema and I can't thank you enough for your assistance and your positive activities in the community.'"*6
