The American dream realized by U. S. Senator John Ensign and his great grantfather By GSBPA of WBTI*1***** One person with a belief is a social power equal to ninety-nine who have only interests. ---John Stuart Mill, "Representative Government", 1861 ***** "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity." --- Oprah Winfrey ***** "The secret of joy in work is contain in one word -- excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it." --- Pearl Buck ***** Management is nothing more than motivating other people. ---Lee Iacocca "America is a stronger and better nation because of the hard work and the faith and the entrepreneurial spirit of immigrants," said President Bush of the United States of America on Wendesday, January 7, 2004. "Our nation needs an immigration system that serves the American economy and reflets the American dream." *2 U. S. Senator John Ensign has served the people of Nevada from his days as a veterinarian, small business owner, and U.S. Congressman to his present role as the 24th U.S. Senator for Nevada. His great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and taught his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. Senator John Ensign fights successfully for his people, land, and country. Jonn's successful story is a model for many individuals all around the world. Strengthened by faith in God and family, we knew in our hearts that with hard work, perseverance, and the help of newly found neighbors and friends, we could indeed achieve the American dream. ---U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao*3 Elaine Chao believes deeply in the American dream because she has lived it. Her successful life gives eloquent testimony to the virtues of hard work and perseverance and to the unending promise of this great country. —George W. Bush*4 Senators from both parties at the Education, Health, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing hailed Ms. Chao, who immigrated from Taiwan when she was 8, as the incarnation of the American dream. —The New York Times*5 "It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Las Vegas for the 28th Annual Convention of the Taiwan Benevolent Association of America. I hope that, during your time here, you will be able to experience some of the many attractions that our beautiful city has to offer. ....., I commend you on your dedication to promoting understanding between the people of Taiwan and the United States through educational, cultural, economic, and scientific programs. Your contributions to the betterment of the communities in which you live have had a significant positive impact on the quality of life for the families who reside in those communities," wrote U. S. Senator John Ensign in his Greetings Letter to Taiwan Benevolent Association of America.*6 "In righteousness we shall be established. In this 21th Century new era and society, we need economic growth, but we also need to establish and promote creativity, fairness and Justice, serve and love, educational knowledge, and spirit engineering. We wish that a pure spring may prosper and enrich our splendid and golden country through: the elegant properties of freedom, democracy, entrepreneurship, and justice; the power of public service that based on 'knowledge is the power of righteouness,'; the advancement of technology, innovation, and civilization; and the spirit that 'knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service'. We believe that a thing of beauty is a joy forever. With the effort and participation of many intellectuals, leaders, officials, among others through benevolent spirit and brotherly love, the 28th Convention of TBAA is really marvelous," pointed out President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute.*7 "John Ensign and Elaine Chao are two of the most comtemporary heroes who have realized the Ameican Dream which was encouraged for a long time by U. S. Senator Harry Reid. Under the spiritual leadership of them, WBTI has a bright endeavor for its proclamation and creed on the belief that the encouragement and promotion of academic research, community service, and humane spirit will bring our effort for a peaceful and prosperous community," said Christine Hu, Esq. at the time when she was informed of her appointment as an Assistant Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) by WBTI on December 16, 2003.*8 People are interested in having a little more understanding about the successful story of U. S. Senator John Ensign after they read the above expression by Christine. It's our pleasure to offer our viewers more about it by reprinting the following two articles: ------------------------------- John Ensign honored as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of WBTI By Tiffany Chang North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge-elect Natalie Tyrell once wrote a letter of appreciation to Dr. Tony Lei from her Office, "....I want to share with you my favorite quote. It is by the great Winston Churchill. It exemplifies the driving force by which I start out each day. He said, 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' ...." By the act of love itself, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. We encourage people to make service a part of our characters and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others. U. S. Senator-elect John Ensign's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and taught his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to build and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to America to seek the American dream. Even though not all of them can realize their American dream, eventually they could teach and help their children accomplish their contributions to our country. As a born-again Christian, people have been inspired by his sincererity, humbleness, and credibility much more than just his wealthy and handsome appearance now. On October 15, John attended the worship service of the Liberty Baptist Church. He offered a short speech of testifmony. He said that he was very frustrated with his first taste of political failure, when he lost by a mere 428 votes to U. S. Senator Harry Reid. However, he believes God and has surrendered his fate to God. John's faith in God helped him to overcome his frustration and disappointment and enabled him to continue to strive to succeed. The Bible says "...though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed (1 Peter 1:6-7)". If a window was closed, God might re-open the window or even open a different door for those who are eager to utilize his or her knowledge and expertise to serve. As all Christians acknowledge - with God, anything is possible. People believed with John that he said, "I have the passion for the fight and the unshakable belief that together we can build a better Nevada." In the Pastor Teis' meeting Office, John agreed with Dr. Tony Lei, also a born-again Chrisitan, that WBTI would honor him as Advisor and Vice Chairman of its Advisory Board. In the first paragraph of this column on September 15, it is stated that on September 7, U. S. Senate Candidate John Ensign wrote: "Please accept my best wishes as you come together in celebration of the Thai Performaning Arts, Appreciation Day 2000. The importance of sharing culture through art and festivities that bring people together serves to enhance all of us more by enriching our lives with the diversity of people and their customs. I especially would like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Tony T. Lei for his commitment and enthusiastic support of the Thai Performing Arts." John received Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree form the Colorado State University in 1985. He accepted Dr. Tony Lei's invitation as a Guest Speaker to talk about protecting Social Security and Medicare for our Nevadan seniors at a Forum held by Seniors United. He believes that America must honor its words to seniors. His scholastic and gentle appearance has won a lot of applause and respect. In community service, Dr. Tony Lei's hero is the great servant who has given all for the betterment of others' lives. Let our candles fuel a fire that will fan out an ever-lasting circles. With these circles together we can close our eyes and envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. The Bible teaches: "...let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)." District (Family) Court Judge-elect Cheryl Moss wrote Dr. Tony Lei, "I am delighted and honored to be appointed as an Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Thank you for this opportunity to serve, and I hope to gain more knowledge, insight and awareness about public service and community issues through your prestigious institution. I remain dedicated to helping the community, and I am inspired by your leadership, wisdom and guidance. I am also fortunate to have met you and your wife, Judy, because you are both active and dynamic individuals in the community. Your accomplishments and achievements have demonstrated that taking part in the community does make a difference. Best wishes and thank you again for your unselfish kindness, support and encouragement." Power in politics should have a direction that the power based on knowledge is the power of righteousness. We wish that a pure fountain may prosper and enrich our spendid and golden country through the spirit that knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service. "In God we trust. Life is for the purpose to serve our lovely society," Dr. Tony Lei stated. In Seniors United, we shall have a nice celebrating party for Christmas with good entertainment. We invited heartfeltly all our members and friends to join us a joyful reunion. Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!*9 --------------------------------------- John Ensign: a born-again Christian By Tiffany Chang It is not very possible for anybody all the way with good luck from the beginning to the end of his or her whole life. One will enevitably face somekind of frustration. The attitude that one holds in facing one's frustration will, nevertheless, decide what would be his or her fate to be followed. If anybody gives up soon after he or she gets a frusration or difficulty, then the following days for his or her life will most probably be in dead end. John Ensign has been impressived as a handsome, strong, and rich man. He has been long time identified as son of big casino leading figure of Mandalay Bay. John believes the struglling effort to success. He used to remind us of his humble beginnings. His mother was a change girl in Reno. Supporting three children with no help from her ex-husband when she met and married Mike Ensign. She went on to become a person and now she is the wife of famous Chairman of Mandalay Bay Group. John's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and teach his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to build and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to here even not being able for all of them to realize their American dream but eventurely they could teach and help their children accomplish their contributions for our country. John's wife, Darlene, encouraged him into his first political race for Congress. Earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1995, his scholarstic and gentle appearance has won lots of applause and respect from knowledgeable ladies in social activities. It was when he was attending veterinarian school that John became a born-again Christian. He was urging by Darlene to become involved in a men's Christian group. In the first paragraph of this column on September 15, it stated that on September 7, U. S. Senate Candidate John Ensign wrote: "Please accept my best wishes as you come together in celebration of the Thai Performaning Arts, Appreciation Day 2000. In the Pastor Teis' meeting Office, John agreed with Dr. Tony Lei that WBTI would honor him as Advisor (effective on 10/17) and Vice Chairman (effective on 11/08 when elected as Senator) of its Advisory Board. If a window was closed, God might re-open the window or even open a door for the people who is eager to utilize his or her knowledge and expertise to serve. The matter is that we should believe God. Congretulations! Republican U.S. Senator-elect Honorable John Ensign. By the act of love itself, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. Post through the courtesy of Las Vegas Review-Journal:Jan. 03, 2006 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal EDITORIAL: President declines to jack up consumer costs Quotas on imported steel would harm the economy As a New Year's present to American consumers and their booming economy, President Bush on Friday again stood tall for (relatively) free trade, rejecting a request by U.S. manufacturers and the United Steelworkers to impose quotas limiting the import of steel pipe from China, saying new trade barriers would harm the economy by raising prices for consumers. "I have determined that providing import relief for the U.S. steel pipe industry is not in the national economic interest of the United States," Mr. Bush said in a statement released by the White House. Ipsco Inc., Tyco International Ltd., five other U.S. companies and the steelworkers union -- representing 2,500 workers at factories in Arkansas, Pennsylvania and Ohio -- petitioned the administration in August to impose the quotas on Chinese imports of pipes used in plumbing, fencing and other construction. The companies argued in their petition that currency manipulation, export rebate programs, subsidized expansion and the absence of worker and environmental regulations allow China to export pipe at prices below the cost of the raw materials. No one is praising the way the communist Chinese treat their workers. But in the real world, it's unlikely any nation or industry can long export anything at less than it costs to produce -- and far more likely that "at a loss" is being cleverly defined in such cases to mean "at a lower profit than we'd like to make." (We're not making this up -- many attempts at federal "anti-dumping" legislation have actually defined dastardly foreigners selling "below cost" to mean "at a profit of less than 3 percent," or some other arbitrary standard.) However, should any nation really wish to engage in such economic suicide, the answer is to buy their underpriced goods so enthusiastically that they eventually go bankrupt, stockpiling any surplus for later re-sale and making ourselves a healthy nest-egg in the process. Chinese pipe imports, primarily used in construction, are due to increase more than 60 percent from $154 million in 2004, the protectionists warn. But the total domestic market for the pipe is actually $1.8 billion, meaning the Chinese share still hovers below 10 percent, according to the U.S. International Trade Commission. The president made sensible note of this Friday, pointing out more than 50 other countries also export the product to the United States, which means imposing limits on the Chinese pipe would be "ineffective because of the extent to which imports from third countries would likely replace curtailed Chinese imports." And that's before we even talk about the potential costs of a trade war, should the Chinese (or anyone else) respond by adding punitive tariffs to imported U.S. goods. The proposed curbs would have cost American consumers five times more than they would have increased the income of domestic producers by allowing them to jack up their own prices (the point of the whole exercise), Mr. Bush said. American trade is still not as free as it ought to be. But the abandonment of past protectionism is one reason our economy is as strong as it currently is. President Bush seems to have rediscovered this; he should be congratulated for resisting parochial special pleadings and doing the right thing. 2222222222222222 888888888888888888888888888 777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 **************************************************

President's 2006 New Year Message Whether you are man or woman, each of us have the instinct to travel. We live in this world for a good purpose, not "to have and to hold", but "to give and to serve others." We help others as if we need to continue to pay rent for our time here on earth. Those who "pay rent" by serving those in need of our assistance, are the individuals who are indeed most happy and at peace. Since being established on January 8, 1996, the distringuished officers and members of the Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) have persevered with a fiery spirit to serve its purpose in helping the community. We have endured and weathered many obstacles, and miraculously we have survived and grown into a strong organization. WBTI formulated and implemented several important projects in 2005. WBTI also assisted several associations and organizations in planning and conducting successful parties and events. This is evidenced by the more than 12 awards and proclamations received from the State of Nevada, Clark County, U. S. Senators and Congressmen and other high-ranking members of the community. Innovation is the key to success. Managers are constantly searching the globe for new ideas. Modern companies view information and technology (IT) as a major competitive differentiator. Strategic businesses emphasize the use of information technology for effective management. International companies develop their global IT platforms by integrating hardware, software and Internet-based network architecture worldwide. Commuunication technology, such as teleconferencing and computer networks, are making it possible for people from subsidiaries around the world to work together on a single project or multiple projects. Many business are becoming global and moving toward transnational e-business strategies in which they integrate the worldwide business activities between their subsidiaries and headquarters. In the coming year, 2006, WBTI will continue to monitor and promote further innovative activities in the international perspective arena. Washington Business and Technology Institute should be credited due to our remarkable leadership and our hardworking members. WBTI is neither made up of statues or fountains, nor landsacapes or waterscapes. Rather, WBTI is made up of actual hardworking and dedicated persons -- its faculty, advisory members, administrators and numerous friends and allies within the community. Many thanks to the Las Vegas Review-Journal for providing WBTI with a website so that we can continue to communicate easily and expeditiously. You're on Google.com and Google.cn, if you're on Washington Business and Technology Institute's website (http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti)" [WBTI]. Google.com and Google.cn are published approximately every ten days for most of the sections of this website. For many years, one of WBTI's most important functions is to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of certain individuals. In 2005, we have had the pleasure to honor several individuals who have made outstanding accomplishments in many special fields. President Dr. Andrew K. Benton of Pepperdine University inspired us by the following: "Reaching up, reaching beyond, always pressing forward; this is the passion of the human spirit." We are certainly being challenged! At the beginging of this splendid year, I wish everybody success in their endeavors, prosperity, good health and a happy life! New programs initiated by the Wang Foundation and Tsinghua University-China By Dr. Peter C. C. Wang and GSBPA of WBTI*1The following is an e-mail sent by Founder and Chairman Dr. Peter C. C. Wang of Wang Foundation to President Dr. Tony tung-tien Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) on January 1, 2006 from Pebble Beach, California: "Happy New Year to you! Sending, as attachment, the official application form for your students' use. Please have them fill it out and send it back ASAP according to the stated instructions. It looks like we may have lot more applicants than we have planned for this July-August summer program at Tsinghua University in Beijing During the first China Symposium next November, there will be special receptions for invited speakers plus representatives from supporting institutions like yours to meet some of the high level China Officials. Please let me know who else from your university/organization should be included in the list. Please e-mail me anytime if there are questions related to this new program initiated by the Wang Foundation. Thanks. Warm regards, Peter"*2 To encourage and assist the planning and implementation of outstanding projects is one of the mission of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) since its establishment in January 8, 1996.*3 It is our pleasure to post the following information for Tsinghua University and the Wang Foundation: Planning Document by Peter C.C. Wang, December 22, 2005 Annual Summer Service and Learning Program and the China Symposium Through Years 2006 -2010 Sponsored by Tsinghua University and the Wang Foundation Tsinghua University and the Wang Foundation hereby agree to collaborate on an annual summer program in which American students may participate in a service learning experience in cooperation with the ˇ°Poverty Alleviation through Education Projectˇ± of Tsinghua University. Such activities shall be reviewed, summarized and promoted through the China Symposium. Who and When: Administered by: Tsinghua University Supported by: Tsinghua University and Wang Foundation The Wang Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports projects to strengthen Sino-U.S. relations through increased understanding of China by sending more American students to study in China. The first Summer Service and Learning Program will be administered by Tsinghua University in Beijing. The duration of the Project is from July 22, 2006 to August 21, 2006. The first China Symposium on ˇ°Globalization, Poverty and Sino-US Relationsˇ± will be held at Tsinghua University, Beijing, from November 27 to 29, 2006. Background for: Summer service and learning program. The China Symposium on ˇ°Globalization, Poverty and Sino-US Relationsˇ± The ˇ°Poverty Alleviation through Education Project,ˇ± established at Tsinghua University, is designed to disseminate information and knowledge to the poorest regions of China by employing advanced information technologies. The Chinese central government has identified and designated 592 counties as the poorest regions in China where such a poverty alleviation project is urgently needed. Since 1979, when Deng Xiaoping launched his market economy policy in China, over 400 million Chinese have been lifted from poverty. This is a result of intense negotiations between President Jimmy Carter and Deng Xiaoping, culminating in the establishment of full diplomatic relation between China and US on January 1, 1979. The Wang Foundation desires to work with dedicated people in China and in the U. S. in launching a new initiative for a Post-Deng Era movement that will lift another 400 million Chinese out of poverty in the next 20 years. The annual symposium is designed to enhance this initiative with discussions and the sharing of views on the following topics: We need more globalization, not less. We need to integrate poverty alleviation consideration as the most important component in all work related to globalization. We need to narrow the gap between the haves and have-nots: this is singularly crucial to ChinaˇŻs future economic development. We need to improve Sino-US relations through knowledge of each otherˇŻs culture. We believe that a peaceful world is attainable through interaction among the young. Student participation in the Poverty Alleviation through Education Project will enhance understanding of China at all levels. This Project is our first step towards improved Sino-US relations. Tsinghua University has established 100 e-learning centers among 592 poor counties throughout China during the past three years. It is the UniversityˇŻs intention to accelerate such expansions to cover all 592 counties with e-learning centers within the next five years. Tsinghua University has delivered training courses through their nationwide distance-learning network system by adopting multiple technologies, such as satellite broadcasting networks and cable TV, to government officials, primary and middle school teachers and students, and administrators from town enterprises. The Summer Service and Learning Project will add a significant new dimension: in addition to all the vocational training courses designed to spread useful applied knowledge, Chinese teachers, local county officials and students will have access to instruction of conversational English by native speakers. The project will help American students to learn and understand the real China first-hand, not as tourists, but as participants. There is no need for prior Chinese language knowledge because each American student will be teamed up with a Tsinghua student throughout the entire stay in China. Such month-long program for the American students is believed to be better than most immersion program for Chinese language and culture training in existence. Details of the Summer Program: Number of American students: 25-75 during first year, to be expanded in second year. Number of Tsinghua students: Same number of Tsinghua students as American students Host Institution: School of Continuing Education, Tsinghua University. Basic terms and conditions: Participating American students are responsible for their own international travel plus health and accident insurance. Same terms and conditions are applicable to any university staff or faculty members accompanying their students. All domestic travel, room and board in China are paid for by Tsinghua University. Each American student will receive a certificate of completion awarded by Tsinghua University. Details of the First China Symposium: Potential Invited Speakers: (plus speakers from China) Jimmy Carter ˇ®A review of recent Sino-US RelationsˇŻ (pending) President Hu to open the symposium (conditional yes) George Russell ˇ®Globalization and PovertyˇŻ (confirmed) Someone from Norway (pending) Attendees: All symposium attendees are by invitation only. At this time, it is anticipated to be around 100 from outside China, 100 from within China. Post through the courtesy of the Las Vegas Review-Journal:Dec. 31, 2005 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal NEW YEAR'S EVE: Keeping an eye on the sky High winds may squelch fireworks By LYNNETTE CURTIS REVIEW-JOURNAL Alfons Dalla-Bona inspects a glass while setting up the Palace Ballroom at Caesars Palace on Friday. The casino will join many others on the Strip limiting access to guests or those with dinner or show reservations tonight. At Caesars, the cutoff for the public to enter will be 10 p.m. Photo by Clint Karlsen. Mother Nature may prove after all to be the ultimate party pooper this New Year's Eve. If the most recent forecasts pan out, she'll send winds up to 25 mph tonight that could force officials to cancel their 8-minute fireworks show meant to cap off the city's centennial celebration. And late-night showers could dampen the heads -- and maybe spirits -- of a Strip crowd of well over 200,000. Winds of 10 mph or more are all that's needed to put the kibosh on the fireworks. Odds of higher winds have quadrupled since Thursday's forecast. "I'd say there's an 80 percent chance of winds higher than 10 mph," said Ken Clark, senior expert meteorologist with Accuweather.com. "They'll be 15 to 25 mph with some gusts up to 30 mph." Clark said winds should die down overnight, but will most likely still be blowing strong around midnight. "It's not impossible for them to die down, but I wouldn't take that bet." Phil Grucci, designer of the New Year's Eve fireworks show and vice president of the Long Island, N.Y.-based Fireworks by Grucci, still hoped the show would go on. Reached late Friday afternoon on his cell phone at the top of the Rio, Grucci said he was "trying not to even think about" a possible cancellation. "Those weather guys are always wrong," he said. "I won't think anything until 11:59 p.m. (New Year's Eve)." But Grucci admits a cancellation is much more likely this year than in years past. "It's certainly more of a reality. The only thing we can do is go one step at a time and hope the storm front subsides. We are maintaining the same production outline, and we'll be ready to go at midnight. You have to remain positive. If I start kicking the sand now, I'm in trouble." He said if the fireworks can't go off at midnight, they won't go off at all. The decision is ultimately up to the Clark County Fire Department, which will have inspectors stationed on 10 casino rooftops. Clark also said to expect sporadic light to moderate rain showers beginning in the late afternoon that may last through midnight. Rain won't prevent officials from shooting off fireworks, but could make for a lot of soggy outdoor partiers. Many Strip resorts traditionally restrict access on New Year's Eve to just hotel guests and customers with restaurant reservations or tickets to a show. "It really depends upon crowd control and the individual property," MGM Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said Friday. "At that point, a guest would have to show a hotel room key. A lot of times, because of flow through the hotel and pressure on the high traffic areas, we'll have to keep the general public out." The general public will be allowed into Caesars Palace only until 10 p.m., spokesman Ken Langdon said. "That's the cut-off for people who aren't guests or don't have reservations." Feldman said properties toward the center of the Strip, such as Bellagio and The Mirage, have a higher probability for access restrictions because the crowds on that part of the street tend to be larger. Other MGM Mirage resorts, such as MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay, have larger casinos and public space, in addition to their location on the south end of the Strip. Clark said Las Vegas can thank California for the inclement end-of-year weather. "It's a storm coming from Northern California that will start causing the wind. There's another storm coming in right after it on Sunday night or early Monday morning that will bring more rain." Bad weather won't be the only possible obstacle to fun on the Strip. Those who don't arrive early may be out of luck with parking and street access. The Strip is expected to be closed to traffic from Russell Road to Sahara Avenue as early as 5 p.m. today. Roads that cross the Strip along that stretch will also be closed to a certain distance east and west, Sgt. Chris Jones, a spokesman for Las Vegas police, said Friday. So will eastbound cross-street highway exits from Interstate 15 at Russell Road, Sahara Avenue, Flamingo Road, Tropicana Avenue and Spring Mountain Road/Sands Avenue. Desert Inn Road and Frank Sinatra Drive will remain open. The Strip won't reopen until 4 a.m. at the earliest, authorities said. Parking also could be heavily restricted in the resort corridor. "The public's best bet is to use public transportation," Jones said. "Taxis, buses, the monorail -- any way to not have to take a vehicle." Review-Journal writer Howard Stutz contributed to this report. 111111111111111 6666666666666666666666666666 777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 **************************************************

Freedom, Democracy, Judicial ruling, and Entrepreneurship By GSBPA of WBTI*1As President Dr. Tony Tung-tien Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute inspires us that the four precious and valuable properties owned by the United States of America are Freedom, Democracy, judicial ruling, and Entrepreneurship, our Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) is promoting the cooperation and development of international tourism, business, education, and culture. To contribute to the Asian countries with the spirit of innovation and entrpreneurship, we need to emphasize our programs with our global e-business technology managemnt. We are surrounded by lots of e-business entreprises in this 21th Century era of businees world. An e-busineess entreprise is a business that uses the Internet, intranets, extranets, and other computer networks to support electronic business process, decision making, and team and workgroup collaboration within the enterprise and among its customers, suppliers, and other business partners. One of our purposes is to strengthen our business prgrams with the emphasis of e-business technology management. We will encourage the management of information technology in our international e-business entreprises by three functions. We expect our e-business entriprises will make their managing information technologies effective by : (1)the joint development and implementation of e-business and Information Technology ( IT ) strategies by business and IT executives, (2)managing the research and implementation of new information technologies and the development of e-business applications, and (3)managing IT processes, professionals, and subunits within company's IT organization and Information System (IS) function.*2 Computer and technology are as natural as the air for the people in today's workplace which is teeming wih individuals who have terrific idea and a great deal to contribute. "In 'Winning Ways,' Dick Lyles gives us four very powerful strategies that all of us can use to improve our relatioships with others and increase our own level of success. These are the best guidelines I've seen to help you unleash your power and reach your maximum potential," wrote Dr. Ken Blanchard.*3 The four powerful strtegies for the secret of winning ways are: (1). Make people feel stronger rather than weaker as a result of your interactions wih them. (2). Camels are Okay. In fact, today's camel builders will be tommorrow's leaders. (3). Avoid two-valued thinking traps, because very few decisions are choices between right and wrong or good and bad. (4). Influence for the future, rather than the present or the past. "Lee Iacocca told us that management is nothing more than motivating other people. I agree with U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley that once she said, 'The knowledge delivered by the publications of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) through its multimedia inspire us with a positive thinking to love our people, community, professionalism, and country.' I'm impressed that the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of WBTI quoted again lots of valuable words of positive thinking," said Judge Nancy Saitta, District Judge of Nevada. She likes to read the WBTI website (http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti) with colorful and creative design. Even as the number 53,477th [on 5/5/2004 (now at the number of 102,957 on December 28, 2005)} visitor of the website, she is proud to be on the list. We express regret for that the numbers of this website are limited because of its contends by nature of the academic and professioal features. Intelletuals may ask that "How many people could and should be the readers of the book written by our famous scientist Albert Einstein?" You may never know! By adding the number of visitors who access it through the search engines leading giants such as Google.com, Google.cn, AOL.com, WebCrawler.com, Infoseek.com, among others, the number of visitors to WBTI website are numerous. We are quite encouraged through the commends of their visiting either by President Dr. Andrew Benton of Pepperdine University, U. S. Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign, Chancellor Dr. Charles Runnels of Pepperdine University, U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, Justice of the Supreme Court Michael Douglas, District Judge Jessie Walsh, Clark County Commissioner Lynette McDonald, Judge Betsy Kolkoski, Sherrif Bill Young, District Court Judge Cheryl Moss, among others, or by their Secretaries. And thus, we try to offer you the following inspiration of the golden words of wisdom: "A word aptly spoken is like apple of gold in settings of silver." --- Proverbs 25 : 11 "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves." Romans 12 : 10 "Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend spring from his earnest counsel." --- Proverbs 27 : 9 "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." --- Proverbs 15 : 22 "The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining." --- John F. Kennedy "Seven days without laughter makes one weak." --- Joel Goodman "Today, more than ever before, every person is a potential user of computers." --- Marilyn Bohl, in her Preface of "Information Processing," 3rd Ed., 1980. "To be a college or graduate student at this new era, especially in the field of business, she or he should owns four kinds of ability in computing: (1) Word processing, (2) Electronic spreadsheets, (3) Data base management, and (4) Statistical analysis and Charts. As a modern manager and any professionl in business, she or he is more productive in work performance with her or his good talent in computers. --- Tony Tung-tien Lei, M. B. A.; in his Preface of "Mangement Information," 1st Ed. Dec. 1987. "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." --- Proverbs 16 : 3 "He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for his friend." --- Proverbs 22 : 11 "All hard work brings a profit." --- Proverbs 14 : 23 "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." --- Proverbs 21 : 5 "The reward for work done is the opportunity to do more." --- Jonas Salk, MD "I think the next best thing to solving a problem is finding some humor in it." --- Frank A. Clark "Freedom is the oxygen of the soul." --- Moshe Dayan "With sincere love, it's like living in Heaven. On the other hand, with cruel hate, it's like living in Hell. Fighting and malice for selfish gain belong to Hell. Cooperation and encouragement to promote quality of life are attitudes of Heaven." --- Tony T. Lei, Ed. D. "Do to others as you would have them do to you." --- Luke 6 : 31 "A man finds joy in giving an apt reply --- and how good is a timely word!" --- Proverbs 15 : 23 "One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty." --- Proverbs 11 : 24 "The great Winston Churchill said, 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' Tony, I know that you like to exemplify this inspiration same as it's my driving force by which I start out each day." --- Natalie L. Tyrrell "Freedom, Democracy, Judicial ruling, and Entrepreneurship are the best four treasures of the United States of America." --- Dr. Tony T. Lei "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?" --- Vincent Van Gogh "Nothing great was ever done without much enduring." --- St. Catherine of Siena "Anthing you're good at contributes to happiness." --- Bertrand Russell "To a friend's house the road is never long." --- Anonymous "The secret of joy in work is contained in one word --- excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it." --- Pearl Buck "The paralleled practice of both the positive thinking and love in action through the skills with good personal traits such as enthusiam, belief, intellegence, creativity, judgement, liveliness, vision, courage, desire to excel, and persistence, will help people pursue a rich , happier , and successful life." --- Tony T. Lei, Ed. D. With the above words of wisdom, we are glad to have our leaders's inspiration and encouragement for the cooperation and development on tourism and business among international countries with Nevada: Governor Kenny Guinn of Nevada reminds us that tourism is the bedrock of Nevada's economy. To expand and diversify our domestic and international markets are absolutely essential to our long-term economic growth and stability.*4 Governor Kenny Guinn and Lt. Govenor Lorraine Hunt said that Nevada's tourism industry must continue to expand its offerings and reach out to diverse markets that range from outdoor enthusiasts to residents of the world's most populous nation. Speaking at the general session of the Governor's Conference on Tourism at Caesars Palace, he and she each praised Nevada's continuing efforts to supplement its gaming-based core with non-gaming amenities such as shopping, dinning, and outdoor recreation.*5 Governor Guinn expresses that he can not overemphasize the significance and importance of bringing attention to all the attractions to Nevada at a time when it faces unprecedented competition for gaming customers. He believes that we are wise to expand our marketing efforts and focus on developing markets in places such as Asia. It is significant for him to point out that in addition to gaming, Nevada has phenomenal cultural, historic, and recreational resources that we must continue to promote. The Governor emphasizes that for our state's economy to thrive, all of the Silver State's tourism opportunities must be effectively marketed to both domestic and international visitors.*6 The modern and creative philosophy of management is advanced on the following words of wisdom, among others:*7 ***"The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit." --- Moliere ***"Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity." --- Oprah Winfrey ***"The secret of joy in work is contained in one word -- excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it." --- Pearl Buck ***"Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." --- Proverbs 15 : 22 "Bible" "As a bridge between the business and university, the integrity of community service and academic research of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) will help Nevada go advance for the cooperation and development in education, business, and culture among international countries. As an Adjunct Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of WBTI, it's my pleasure to extend my knowledge, experience, and professionalism in public service for community and education at the adjunct capacity," said Jackie Glass, District Judge of Nevada, at the event and dinner party held by Unity Council of Nevada in Lindo Michoacan Mexican Restaurant on April 28, 2004 in Las Vegas.*8 -------------------- References *1. Wang Foundation Looks to Build Bridges By David B. WoodwardA central figure in the rapid expansion of China’s interest in recruiting American students, Dr. Peter C.C. Wang, CEO of the Wang Foundation, gave a presentation at the 2005 NAFSA conference entitled “Strategic Initiatives to Increase Enrollment of American Students Studying in China.” Several days earlier, 35 Chinese university presidents, including senior administrators from the Chinese delegation, visited the Wang Center for International Programs at Pacific Lutheran University and met with Wang for three hours in intensive discussions about how to engage U.S. institutions and their students. The Wang Center was established through a pledge of $4 million from Wang and his wife, Dr. Grace Wang. The meeting with the Chinese delegation followed on a series of earlier discussions Peter C.C. Wang has had with officials in the Chinese Ministry of Education over the past several years in which he has urged the Chinese government to significantly increase its funding for education, especially among the 400 million rural poor of China. Additionally, he has pressed the government to further engage with the United States through international academic exchange by increasing the volume of American students studying in China. The Chinese government has responded by pledging its support and expressing willingness to cover the cost of supporting American students in China on service-learning programs and the costs of sending Chinese teachers in large numbers to the United States to teach Chinese at the K-12 level and to promote study in China downstream. New Legislation May Support Stronger U.S-China Ties Potentially augmenting the commitment of the Chinese government to help the U.S. promote the study of Chinese is the Lieberman-Alexander “United States-China Cultural Engagement Act” introduced May 26, 2005. This proposed legislation “authorizes $1.3 billion in federal funds over five years to provide for Chinese language instruction in American schools, increase American consular activity supporting American commercial activity in China and provide for physical and virtual exchanges among a broad spectrum of individuals in the two nations.” If this bill is enacted, a comprehensive basis will be in place for preparing young Americans in very large numbers to study in China. Additionally, in December of this year the Commission on the Abraham Lincoln Study Abroad Fellowship Program is expected to recommend a program that will greatly expand the opportunity for students at institutions of higher education in the United States to study abroad. Given the imminent prominence of China on the global stage, it is hoped that the Commission will place significant emphasis on sending American students to China. This would go a long way to making academic study in China a fixture, initiating a much larger flow of students. Important Factors Must Still be Considered The key question of how to get more American students to go to China for serious academic study remains open. Universities do not want to expend a great deal of effort launching China programs if the demand isn’t there yet. Wang’s plan is to assist the Wang Center and a coalition of 48 U.S. colleges and universities in a pilot program with Sichuan University and assist Wayne State University’s pilot program with the University of International Business and Economics, to solicit Chinese government to provide scholarships to U.S. college students to study in China, to recruit Chinese universities to participate in work-study program and annually sending American students to study in China with life-time service objectives, and to seek job opportunities for U.S. students while study in China to gain supplemental income. It was in part Wang’s encouragement to the Ministry of Education of China which led to the major increase in Chinese efforts to recruit American students at NAFSA. Wang advocates the concept of recruiting large numbers of American students to go to China on service-learning scholarships funded largely by the Chinese government in order to learn Chinese and teach English at the same time. Wang believes passionately that Americans must do what they can to help China educate its rural poor, or else face a future where China will become volatile and plunge the world into crisis. He has strongly urged the government of China to make education of the rural poor a top priority for this reason, and they are responding affirmatively to his recommendations. The latest indication is that the Chinese government has made the decision to increase their education budget from 2.5 percent to 4 percent of China’s GDP for year 2006. But the question the Chinese government is asking is “Where are the American students?” In their mind, if China is so important on a global level and is making such tremendous efforts to welcome foreign students, why don’t Americans learn Chinese and study in China in much greater numbers? Certainly reciprocating China’s interest in the U.S. could go a long way to improve Sino-U.S. relations in the future. Moving Forward The next phase is to get pilot projects up and running in 2006. Several lead institutions planning to work with the Wang Foundation on a pilot project include Tsinghua University in Beijing, Southwest National University in Zhongqing, Sichuan University in Chengdu, and YangZhou Polytechnic College. In the near future Wang is planning to assist American universities in setting up scholarship exchanges as well. Post through the courtesy of Las Vegas Review-Journal:Dec. 25, 2005 Copyright © Las Vegas Review-Journal EDITORIAL: "I'll be home for Christmas ... " A day for family and friends to celebrate freedom and bounty This morning, the bustling streets and malls have fallen strangely quiet. In many a home the living room rests ankle-deep in an effluvia of ribbons and paper and bows, while in the background someone has left the TV running -- Alastair Sim throws open his window on a bright and shining world for the 54th time, and asks the lad in the street what day this is. It's Christmas morning, sir. And yes, he certainly does know the butcher shop on "the next street but one" with the big, fat turkey still hanging in the window -- "the one as big as me." By day's end, much of the predictable hand-wringing over the commercialization of the holiday will have faded away, as in many homes the most expensive new Christmas toys will lie broken or abandoned in some forgotten corner, while toddlers play themselves to happy exhaustion in that yet-to-be-unseated, all-time-champion source of Christmas delight: the empty cardboard box. A fancy high-tech toy has no option but to remain a fancy high-tech toy, you see, while a cardboard box can be a frontier fort, a hot rod with stick shift, a lonely aircraft dangerously icing up as it makes the perilous climb over the Andes ... Young parents will fret the holiday didn't turn out quite as planned. That's when a grandparent is allowed to place a sympathetic hand on the shoulder, retelling the Christmas when granddad hunted high and low for just the right red Texaco fire truck, only to watch the child in question spend the day exuberantly constructing a full Javanese gavelan out of old pots and pans systematically looted from the kitchen cupboard. The bleatings about "commercialization" seem to have faded a bit of late. (Perhaps it's finally sunk into the public consciousness that our mutual funds stay up only so long as the merchants do some business.) Because Christians didn't exactly invent the date -- merely superimposing their own celebration onto a Winter Solstice week of feasting and merriment observed by the Romans and the pagan tribes of a thousand years -- it does seem less than generous to protest whatever traditions others may cherish at this time of year. Even if that does include Claymation Santas sledding across the snow on highly unlikely rotary-blade razors. In fact, the ancient and modern holidays aren't such a bad fit: The superstitious ancients lighted bonfires and hauled the sacred mistletoe and evergreens indoors out of fear that ghosts of the dead might walk abroad on the longest and darkest night of the year. Yet still they looked on the bright side, celebrating the fact that the lengthening of each day from this point promised the vital return of spring. Modern Christians, too, celebrate on this date the arrival of a new hope to lead mankind from the darkness. Here is a day for friends and family, for again celebrating our freedoms and the bounty they create. Only by allowing men and women to profit from the fruits of their labors can a society be truly moral and just. And only by thus allowing each soul to remain a free agent is true, voluntary kindness and charity made possible. Here is a day to thank our lucky stars we live in a land where economic freedom has created so much affordable bounty that -- in the vast majority of American homes this day -- we find ourselves surrounded, in the dead of winter, far from any fertile field, with more delicious plenty than is humanly possible to consume. There's a tendency to think today's crises must be more complicated and dispiriting than those of days gone by. In fact, today's doubt and confusion pales when we consider how the future hung in the balance for a generation of cold and lonely sailors and G.I.s and Marines, stretched thin on freedom's line, in the desperate Christmas of 1943. Listen to the radio. When were those songs written? Isn't it interesting, how many come down to us from those desperate days? Even today, have we no moment of gratitude to spare for the young men and women who stand a frozen vigil on some lonely shore this Christmas Day, wishing they, too, could be home sipping cider by the fire? It was for such as they that Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane wrote, in the far darker days of 1943: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas, let your heart be light. From now on, our troubles will be out of sight. "Have yourself a merry little Christmas, make the Yuletide gay. From now on, our troubles will be miles away. ... "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow. Hang a shining star upon the highest bough ... and have yourself a merry little Christmas, now." It was for such as they that Kim Gannon and Walter Kent wrote, in 1943 "I'll be home for Christmas, you can plan on me. Please have snow and mistletoe, and presents on the tree. "Christmas eve will find me, where the lovelight gleams. I'll be home for Christmas ... if only in my dreams." Merry Christmas to all. May your days be cheery and bright. And may all your Christmases ... be white. (Irving Berlin: 1942). A version of the above first appeared on these pages on Christmas 1998. 55555555555555 8888888888888888888888888 777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777 **************************************************

Google's bidding! To become more effective online communication By Tiffany Chang***** The leading Internet search engine Google increased more than 6 times of its profit in the third quarter. [October 21, 2005]*21 The following are post from the Second Edition of this article on August 17, 2004: "Google, the world's most-used Web search engine, may close bidding in its auction-style initial public offering as soon as 2 p.m. today, moving it closer to completing what may be the most biggest-ever internet-company IPO," reported Brett Cole on August 17, 2004.*19 "Google co-founders Larry Page, 31, and Sergey Brin, 30, chose an auction-style IPO to give individual investors an opportunity to buy shares alongsid institutions, the company said in SEC filings. Google's IPO auction may cut investment-banking fees to 1.5 percent, said Michael Madden, principal at New York-based buyout firm Questor Management Co. Google makes most of its money by linking advertisements to search results. That and other forms of advertising constitute 98 percent of Google's revenue, the company said in an SEC filling," continued the reporter.*20 *****To be more successful for your Web site, you need to be favored by the most famous search engine services leaders like Google! (google.com and Google.cn), Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com), Aol! (www.aol.com), WebCrawler! (WebCrawler.com) Infoseek! (www.infoseek.com), among others.***** "We need individuals who can restore hope and create positive changes in our society. It is our responsibility as educator to produce leaders who will take that initiative. To do so, we must be at the level of the individual student and alumnus. Utimately, the school must strengthen the student's intellect and create a better, bolder, and more ehical thinker who will yield the greatest impact on the community in roles as educators therapists, and business persons," siad Nancy Magnusson Fagan at the time when she was the Dean of the Graduate School of Education and Psychology, Pepperdine University.*1 Today, one of the important slogan of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) is: To become more effective online communication in every online venue! Starting from 1980, the author (with the pen name as Tiffany Chang) had been benefited deeply from two main courses of the program of Doctorate Degree of Education (Ed. D.) in Institution Management of Pepperdine University.*2 They were: (1) ED 740 Computer Utilization in Institutional Management; and (2) ED 730 Methodological Approaches to Educational Research and Evaluation. The technical skills and knowledge of information management had sharpened his abilities of the research, management, and teaching in a national organization of information management and the graduate school of business administration. After many years of administrative resposibility in higher policy-making organization and teaching the graduate school of business administration in famous universities, the author concentrated effort to study and acquire the knowledge and utilization of effective information management in the United States of America. That was ten years after he received his M. B. A. from Pepperdine. His two years of computer consulting job at the Computer Laboratory of the Graduate School of Education and Pshchology and the School of Business and Management of Pepperdine University advanced the practical experience on information management for him to complete his dessertation entitled "A Study of the Impact of Enrollment in a Computer Science Class on Mathematics Scores and Attendance in a Secondary School". He taught information management as an Associate Professor for five years at the Graduate School of Business Administration of National Chunghsing University before he became a Fellow of Management for the former Dean of the School of Business and Management of Pepperdine University in 1991. He received his M. B. A. and Doctor of Education in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University in 1969 and 1990, respectively. Indeed, business achievement is the new yardstick of success in today's society. Therefore, business has become not only the fastest growing major in undergraduate institutions but also in graduate school of famous universities, nationally and internationally. The emphasis of the online communication skills and the quantitative analysis techniques with computers is one of the most important study for the art of success to the business students, professionals, executives, and owners. In many ways, business school is at the center of this cultural phenomenon. For some, the business school is the passport to the boardroom, the ticket to the top of the corporate ladder. these schools, nationally and internationally, pump out the new generation of business leaders by hundreds of thousands. "They are the pipeline of raw material with which the nation's --- and the world's --- leading business build the future. And MBAs are not limited to the traditional corporate world: From Wall Street to Madison Avenue, from Sand Hill Road to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, today's MBAs lead organizations large and small, in every conceivable industry. They are the executives and entrepreneurs who power the economy."3 "UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN LIVING IN A CAVE, you've seen enormous changes in communications technology over the past two decades. From orbiting satellites routing long distance phone calls to email to undreamed-of growth of the Internet, the age of communicating online, using computers and networks, is upon us all," stated at the first paragraphy of the 'Introduction' of the book, "How to say it online: everything you need to know to master the new language of cyberspac," written by Kim Baker and Sunny Baker.*4 "And what could be better news? To keep in touch, there's nothing faster or cheaper than email. To gain access to information and people, the power of online communication expands your reach from the local to the global. To meet new friends and even romance a potential life partner, online venues provide rich opportunities (if you know the right things to say and the best way to say them). At school, the Internet places volumes of knowledge on ever subject at your fingertips, and at work, computer networks make business communication more efficient than ever." *5 Whether you are in business or in non-profit organization, you need to have a Web site. This seems to be a common wisdom in now- a-days. Think seriously about the needs of your market before you go onto the Web to make more money for business, to develop better non-profit organization, or to contribute to more community service. "It's hard to believe that Fred's Service Station really needs a Web Site to reap new profits. However, for some businesses and professional service firms, the Internet and web to gether offer viable marketing and distribution opportunities. Software companies, online magazines, and email order businesses can do quite well from the Web --- if the owners know how to say the right things on their sites. The Secrets of a Successful Web Site: Just having a site on the Web will do almost nothing to sell your products or services. To promote your Web site, there are three things you must do: (1). You must register your Web site with the best search engines. (2). You should consider using the many free and not free advertising opportunities on the Web. (3) You should search the Web regularly for competitive and related sites, where you can attach a link to your site." *5 To be more successful for your Web site, you need to be favored by the most famous search engine services like Google! (google.com), Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com), Aol! (www.aol.com), Infoseek! (www.infoseek.com), among others. "There is no longer any such thing as a purely national economy. The rest of the world is just too big to ignore, either as a market or as a competitor. If business schools do nothing other than to train their students to think internationally, they would have accomplished an important task," said John Young, CEO, Hewlett-Packard.*7 Innovation is the key to success, managers are looking everywhere in the global organization for new ideas. Modern companies would view Information technology (IT) as a major competitive differentiator. Strategic businesses emphazise the ueses of information technology for management. International companies develop their global IT platforms by integrating worldwide hardware, software, and Internet-based network architecture. Commuunication technology, for example the teleconferencing and computer networks, is making it possible for people from subsidiaries around the world to work together on project. Many business are becoming global companies and moving toward transnational e-business strategies in which they integrate the global business activities of their subsidiaries and headquarters. The international dimemsions of managing global e-business technologies include dealing with cultural, political, and geoeconomic challenges posed by various countries for global marketplace. The e-business technologies are changing the distribution, relatonships, resources, and responsibilities of managers. Information Technology is helping managers of e-business to eliminate layers of amangement, enabling more collaborative forms of management, providing them with significant information technology resources, and confront them with major e-business and e-commerce challenge. Innovation is the key to success, managers are looking everywhere in the global organization for new ideas. Modern companies would view Information technology (IT) as a major competitive differentiator. Strategic businesses emphazise the ueses of information technology for management. International companies develop their global IT platforms by integrating worldwide hardware, software, and Internet-based network architecture. Commuunication technology, for example the teleconferencing and computer networks, is making it possible for people from subsidiaries around the world to work together on project.*8 In order to keep the online universe a productive, safe, communicative environment, it is interesting and worth to post the ten commandments for computer ethics. They were created by the Computer Ethics Institute: (1). Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people. (2). Thou shalt not interfere with other people's computer work. (3). Thou shalt not snoop around in other people's files. (4). Thou shalt not use a computer to steal. (5). Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness. (6). Thou shalt not use or copy softwear for which you have not paid. (7). Thou shalt not use other people's computer resources without authorization. (8). Thou shalt not appropriate other people's intellectual output. (9). Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write. (10). Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect. A sucessful businessperson always know the old rule that says "It's easier to keep an existing customer than to find a new one." In online customer relationships, this rule is just as important. Your goal should not only to get new visitors, but to cultivate your customer base to yield repeat sales, services, and referrals from satisfied purchasers, clients, and patronagers. "Besides a good product or service, there are only three things you need for successful online customer relations: strong communication, common courtesy, and exemplary customer service. Unfortunately, these old-fashioned values are often missing in many companies' online promotional communication." *9 President Andrew Benton of Pepperdine University took the opportunity to give the Grduate Schools Board of visitors a sneak preview of the campus in last May. The president, along with Dean of the business school Dr. Linda Livingstone, hosted several special guests including David Mount, Mrs. Reva Graziadio, who was accompanied by her daughter and son-in-law, Aliva and Stevan Calvillo. In Addition, President Andrew Benton welcome former U. S. President Gerald Ford. "It is so right that he is here today, becuase when he serve on our Board of Regents we were envisioning this project," President Benton remarked.*2 President Ford understood what the completion of the Drescher Graduate School meant. More importanly he understood that the project reprents all that is good about a generation of people who continue to build a great America. "I think our country should be proud of the fact that we proved that free enterprise, free election opportunities, free economic systems could prevail over state-run, governmen controlled nations," said President Ford. "How can we leave the world in a better conditiion than we found it? Near the top of such answers is this: Build a teaching institution that is grounded in timeless truths. Or, as our mission statement expresses it, 'Pepperdine is a Christian unversity committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and Christian values, where students are strengthened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership.' That is a mission worth investing a life in," pointed out President Benton at his message on the "Pepperdine People".*10 To encourage a good writing and to inspire a good idea, we must have good readers and sincere friends!*11 One of the examples has been shown at the bottom paragraphs of this feature article. "People worry about the huge amount of creativity that is wasted---lost forever---because talented people are prevented from giving their best by their lack of ability to influence others effectively," wrote Dr. Ken Blanchard in the 'Foreword' of the book entitled "Winning Ways," written by Dick Lyles.*12 "The business world has changed; organizations are getting flatter and more networked. Today, the key to success is one's ability to exercise peer leadership. The most successful individuals shine because of their ability to influence, empower, and energize others. In essence, they embody the principles and practices of Winning Ways." "Rapid changes in technology and global competition have combined to reshape the corporate landscape. Corporate management has responnded to these changes by iniatating sweeping changes. The introduction of new technology may be touted as a productivity booster and turn out instead to be a total bust. Whatever the problem may be, you're the one who has to deal with it on a daily basis. Even when new ideas are well thought out, there are still problems in putting them into practice within your group," George Fuller wrote in the 'Introduction' of his book, "Win/win management: leading people in the new workplace."*13 There are lots of common headaches most of supervisors and leaders have to confront. "It's easy to understand how the broad scope these problems can easily lead to a less than steller attitude toward your job. However, adoping a sense of futility only serve to make matters worse. On the other hand, maintain a positive attitude helps you place things in perspective and can make coping eith problems a lot easier to do."*14 To initiate our programs more effectively for the people and communities who are interested to participate the programs, we need to emphasize the spirit of positive attitude and positive thinking. The following are our golden words of wisdom which are worth reading collected by the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI): ***"Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him and to let him know that you trust him." --- Booker T. Washington ***"The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more." --- Jonas Salk, MD ***"Those who trust us, educate us." --- George Eliot ***"Watch your thought, for they become words. Looking forward to meeting you someday so we could all working together toward that goal. With my very best to you,"*16 wrote Dr. Peter Wang to Dr. and Mrs. Tony Lei. Dr. Peter C. Wang, is the Regent of Pacific Lutheran University and Chairman of the Wang Center LLC. "Tony, As you requested, I am sending Peter's proposal for your review. Peter's proposal reflects his dream(and mine too) of many years. If successfully executed, it could help educate hundreds of millions kids of K-12 as well as adults. It would benefit THE MANKIND greatly. Read it and think what you can help," wrote Dr. Bob Ni.*17 He and Dr. Wang are all alumni of the first class of Tunghai University. "My Dearest Dr. Tony, What a wonderful and thoughtful suprise I opened the envelope and your most gracious offer to us inside. Trecia is travelling in New York and I'm still in LA here working. So we will be unable to accept your gift (A trip to visit Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, and National Parks by WBTI). However we shall treasure in our hearts your constant rememberance of us. A sound corporate philosophy and mission By Tiffany Chang and PAI of WBTI*1We are impressed by what Dr. Peter Drucker said that, "Only a clear definition of the mission and purpose of the business makes possible clear and realistic business objectives. It is the foundation for priorities, strategies, plans, and work assignments. It is the starting point for the design of managerial jobs, above all, for the design of managerial structures." A business is a reflection of the leader. As a manager, the important thing is not happens when you are not there. It is important of what happens when you are not there. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor ***** American business needs a lifting purpose greater than the struggle of materialism. ---Herbert Hoover ***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to faciliate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor ***** If you don't invest very much, then defeat dosen't hurt very much and winning is not exciting. ---Dick Vermeil It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: The ServiceMaster Corporration serves as a beautiful example of a company that thoroughly integrates its corporate philosophy and mission into day-to-day affairs. Founded by Marion E. Wade, the story of its conception, genesis and growth is told in Wade's book, God is Counsel. Kenneth T. Wessner, Chairman of the Board of ServiceMaster, states: "The philosopgy of a company determines the character and nature of business it conducts. The climate of a company is created by the concepts of managing and life that govern its policies and practices. The philosophy of ServiceMaster and the words we used to express that philosophy have been carefully conceived, nurtured, and refined through years of thought, work, and commitment. Our company philosophy is expressed in four objectives. These four staterment are the foundation upon which everything we do is built. To honor God in all we do. To help people develop. To pursue excellence. Yo grow profitably. For the people of ServiceMaster, their work is not merely the making of a living; it is a way of life." That solid philosophy has helped ServiceMaster become one of the largest cleaning service conglomerates in the world. ------------------------------------- References *1.
