U. S. Senator Harry Reid -- Putting Nevada First*907 Peace, Love, Wisdom, and Cooperation wbti: Dr. Tony Tung-tien Lei, President of WBTI, pointed out, "Senator Harry Reid assures us that he will continue working to protect Nevada!" By Harry M. Reid....... Please sign the petition to fight the storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. -------------- Learn more about The National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas, or register to attend. Dear Fellow Nevadan: **--** ***** "....... ." ---??? *1 The high cost of energy continues to hurt people across our state and the nation. That is why I am focusing the Senate抯 attention on creating short- and long-term solutions to this crisis. The first step is to crack down on excessive speculation in the energy markets, which experts say accounts for up to 50% of the cost of oil. Wall Street traders are buying huge quantities of oil online, intentionally inflating prices, only to turn around and sell it to other traders at even higher prices. These traders never intend to use the oil they buy ?only to bid up the price and cash in. American families are stuck with the bill every time we pay to fill our tanks and heat our homes, and it just isn抰 right. Congress can and should do something to stop this abuse and stand up for average American families. I am pushing legislation that will improve enforcement, oversight and transparency in this process and I hope that my colleagues in the Senate will join this effort.*2 <<< "FW: Touch Life Mission eletter #311 on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 12:27 PM by {s??????i@hotmail.com} From: eMagazine@touchlife.org; e信e得 網上週刊 #311- 07/22/2008," wrote Miss Susan Dai of ROLCC.*988 "從電焊女工到Google台灣總經理,從北一女到史丹福,張成秀的菁英生涯並不完全頂著完美的光環,父親破產自殺,母親車禍成為植物人,郤從沒打消她開朗向上的處事態度。張成秀將於26日(周六)上午10時至12時,在灣區以「逆境中的亮光」分享她的信仰、生涯、生命故事," Reporter (記者) 王慶偉 of World Journal wrote.*101 "主辦講座的倍恩事奉中心創辦人劉蕾梅15日表示,倍恩今年開始將各項活動外展到社區,將適合現代人,尤其在矽谷職場工作的打工族需要的訊息,傳到每個需要的人." I am also working with my Republican colleagues to increase domestic oil production on the 68 million acres of land currently leased by oil companies. The skyrocketing cost of energy cannot be a partisan issue. Democrats and Republicans must work together to help the American people eliminate our reliance on scarce fossil fuels and develop our abundant clean renewable energy resources and efficiency technologies, and that is why I am cosponsoring the National Clean Energy Summit next month in Las Vegas.*3 ------------------ The National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas Nevada has abundant natural resources that postition the state to be the national leader in clean, renewable energy. I have partnered with UNLV and the Center for American Progress to bring together some of the leading experts to discuss solutions to the challenges we face as a nation. Former President Bill Clinton, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens, the governors of Colorado and Arizona, and countless economic and energy experts will attend. Knowledge, Ingenuity, Wisdom, and Integrity for the quality of modern innovation on Internet! lvrj/WashingtonBusiness: ***** +++++ By Tiffany ChangThis is a great topic. This is a very important theme. This is our (You, I, and She/He) mission to plan, implement, and evaluate our endeavor in having the previleage and responsibility to use modern information technology and scientic research methodology. Quality is our emphasis! We have initiated to write the importance of "Vision" with Washington Business and Technology (WBTI) for many articles since January 8, 1996. It is exemplified by U. S. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama for using "Vision" as a significant and valuable present to his children on the Happy Father's Day this year! We have used to remind ourselves also that we should be more humble and diligent. It is our pleasure to post most of the parts of an article published by the Communitylink of Las Vegas Review-Journal: *701 Positive Celebrating lvrj/wbti: President Dr. Tony T. The practical ethics of a society has been used to be influenced by even one or two persons (or few individuals). Bill Gates' brave behavior (to donate the whole of his and his wife's money, US$580 billion, to the people in need) might probably lead the great countries in America to another innovation. In learning, we have kept a mode of humbleness. We learn more after we studied more. We affirm our belief: "Leadership is love through integrity!" ***** The leaders who work most effectively, it seems to me, never say "I." And that's not because they have trained themselves not to say "I." They don't think "I." They think "we"; they think "team." They understand their job to be to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but "we" gets the credit. This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done. ---Peter F. Drucker "Love that lasts involves a real and genuine concern for others as persons, for their values as they feel them, for their development and growth," said Evelyn Duvall.*1 In our real world, people are led by leaders. A successful leader is consistently followed by others. People follow because they have a belief in the direction, intergrity, and competence of the one leading. We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones: ***** Love is to the heart what the summer is to the farmer's year. It brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul. ---Billy Graham*2 ***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor ***** To be a leader means willingness to risk--and willingness to love. Has the leader given you something from the heart? ---Hubert H. Humphrey ***** The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between the leader is a servant. ---Max Dupree; "Leadership Is an Art" ***** Love is the highest, purest, most precious of all spiritual things. It will draw out from men their magnificent potential. ---Zig Ziglar It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: I went on a search to become a leader. I searched high and low. I spoke with authority. People listened. But alas, there was one who was wiser than I, and they follow that individual. I sought to inspire confidence, but the crowd responded, "Why should I trust you?" I postured, and I assumed the look of leadership with a countenance that flowed with confidence and pride. But many passed me by and never noticed my air of elegance. I ran ahead of the others, pointed the way to new heights. I demonstrated that I knew the road to greatness. And then I looked back, and I was alone. "What shall I do?" I queried. "I've tried hard and used all that I know." And I sat down and pondered long. And then, I listened to the voices around me. And I heard what the group was trying to accomplish. I rolled up my sleeves and joined in the work. As we worked, I asked, "Are we all together in what we want to do and how to get the job done?" And we thought together, and we fought together, and we struggled toward our goal. I found myself encouraging the fainthearted. I sought the ideas of those too shy to speak out. I taught those who had little skill. I praised those who worked hard. When our task was completed, one of the group turned to me and said, "This would not have been done but for your leadership." At first, I said, "I didn't lead. I just worked with the rest." And then I understood, leadership is not a goal. It's a way to reaching a goal. I lead best when I help others to go where we've decided to go. I lead best when I help others to use themselves creatively. I lead best when I forget about myself as a leader and focus on my group...their needs and their goals. To lead is to serve...to give...to achieve together. ---By Anonymous*3 Begin with praise and honest appreciation, we shall be more skillful in leading. Leadership is love through integrity! Wang, Spokesman of WBTI, on Monday, May 12, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada, U. S. A. Dr. Kevin Xiyi Yao received B.A. and M.A. from Nankai University, China (with a major of History). With also a Th.M. in Theological Studies from the Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminaries in Indiana, and a Th.D. at Boston University School of Theology, Dr. Yao has published several articles including The Fundamentalist Movement among Protestant Missionaries in China, 1920-1937. "It's challenged to be found by the PAI of WBTI for my interest in the studies of Culture, History, and Theology. It's my honor and pleasure to be assiged by this Institution and the related ones with an innovatory research on the building of Chinese cultural value into Christian belief," said Dr. Kevin Yao to a Writer of the Communitylink (WBTI's website) of Reviewjournal.com in Dallas, Texas on May 10, 2008. The Vision with Innovation would be launched by him after his completion of the two-day seminar on 'A review and the future of our Chinese and Western Christianity' at the Carrollton Chinese Church there in the Saturday.*101 "The rising importance of the traditional culture in China is enormous, especially with encouragement by the Government. Confusianism and Christianity have convened and conveyed the most fundamental and mutual values. The biggest competitor there will be the Buddhism. Our best strategy for Overseas Chinese Missions in China will be the emphasis of the cooperated relationship of the Chinese culture and the Christianity. The success will depend on our ability to let the people there not view ours as a 'Religion from the Outlanders'," concluded Dr. Kevin Yao of his two speeches in the Seminar. The topics of Dr. Yao's speechees were: (1) "Reflection and Vision at the 200th Anniversary." (2) "Cultural Challenges Facing Churches in Mainland China." Dr. Kevin Yao is now also an Associated Professor of Theological Studies at the China Graduate School of Theology (CGST) in Hong Kong. The Seminar was sponsored by U. S. Houston Regional Council (USHRC) of CGST and Carrollton Chinese Church (CCC). It was held at CCC in Dallas, Texas on May 9-10, 2008. CCC, CCBA, CAAAN, WBTI were some of the co-sponsors. Dr. Yao came from Houston with USHRC of CGST's Chair Kenneth Woo and Vice Chair Sam Ng to Dallas for the Seminar. The Coordinators of the Spiritual Seminar were Rev. Paul Wang and Brother Albert Pang of CCC. "We'll be leaving starting Tuesday this week to have our mission on the road from America through East Asia to (some future day in) Jerusalem. This is among our fifth one. Our 2008 Vision is 'Spiritual Revival'. Through the peace with love, hope we may glorify God in where we go and also develop some concern to unite Businesses and Christianity during the trips," inspired Rev. Paul Wang, Chairman of the Mission to China, Kyrgyzstan, and Taiwan (MCKT). The rising importance of 'Social Responsibility and Community Service' for our Overseas and American Chinese Churches has been voiced by Dr. Kevin Yao in a book at the end of last year. The name of the book in Chinese is "Searching for a Path: Christian Faith and Contemporary Chinese Society". Dr. Yao was the Editor-in-Chief. It was published by China Graduate School of Theology in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Chairman of CCC Mission Committe Mike H. Lei bought three copies of this book during the New Books Demonstration by U. S. CGST. Dr. Kevin Yao autographed kindly on his new book for the attendants who bought it. ------------------------------------ "As Director of Public Administration Institution (PAI), it's my pleasure and privilege to share a leadership role with Dr. Tony T. Lei and to have wonderful cooperation of all the faculty members since PAI's establishment several years ago. Taking Action Against Nevada's Foreclosure Crisis President Dr. Tony T. Lei of WBTI: Senator Harry Reid assures us that he will continue working to protect Nevada!*1 By Harry M. ReidFriends, A little less than a month ago, I wrote a letter to you to share my concerns about the housing crisis currently facing our country, one that is hitting Nevada especially hard. In Clark, Washoe, Douglas, Elko, and Nye counties foreclosure rates have increased between 100 and 300 percent in the last two years. This is an issue that not only affects those Nevadans who are being forced out of their homes, but also our communities, home values, and the state's overall economy.*2 Since there is no one-size-fits-all solution to this crisis, I am pulling together federal, state, and local agencies to identify ways to reduce the number of Nevadans being forced out of their homes. The first step will be going to the five Nevada counties that are being hit the hardest. To address the issue, I recently brought together several key agencies in our state to help launch a group of Mobile Resource Centers. These Mobile Resource Centers will be set up in the five Nevada counties that are being hardest hit in order to provide a place where people in danger of losing their homes can get help. These centers will put Nevadans who are at risk of foreclosure in contact with representatives from several key agencies, nonprofit organizations, lending institutions, and members of my staff to provide them with the information needed to prevent foreclosure. For more information about the Mobile Resource Centers, click here. The Mobile Resource Centers are just one way in which we are working to end Nevada's housing crisis. As I have promised before, I will continue to work with state, federal, and agency partnerships to identify even more ways to help get our state through these challenging times.*3 Sincerely, Harry Reid -------------------------------------------- About U. S. Senator Harry Reid: U. S. Senator Harry M. Reid is the Majority Leader (the Democratic Leader) in the U. S. Senate. He is a man who commands the respect of colleagues from both parties, and a powerful advocate for Nevada’s middle-class families. But he still lives in Searchlight … and he is still guided by the lessons and values he learned there. The Las Vegas Sun newspaper summarized Reid’s story by saying that he 鉮as gone from underdog to Senate’s top dog. ?Parade Magazine, the nation’s largest weekly magazine, identified Senator Reid as one of a handful of leaders in Washington with 鉯ntegrity and guts. ? Since Nevadans elected him to the Senate in 1986, Harry Reid has developed a reputation as a consensus builder and a skillful legislator. Even his Republican colleagues praise his reasoned, balanced approach. Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has said, 鉝e all respect Senator Reid. He is one of the moderate voices around here who tries to get things to work. ? And former GOP Leader Trent Lott said, 鉎arry Reid is out there finding a solution. I enjoy working with him very much. ? He was elected to the Senate in 1986, and re-elected in 1992, 1998 and 2004. He has served as the chairman or senior Democratic member on several important committees and subcommittees. Reid is a tireless worker, and it isn’t unusual for him to be the first Senator of either party to arrive at the Capitol in the morning and the last to go home at night. U. S. Senator Harry Reid has been honored as a Professor of Administrative Strategies of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) since May 31, 2003. *1. By Mark Denton, Jessie Walsh, Cheryl Moss, and Tiffany Chang ***** "Every memorable act in the history of the world is a triumph of enthusiasm. Nothing great was ever achieved without it because it gives any challenge or any occupation, no matter how frightening or difficult, a new meaning. Without enthusiasm you are doomed to a life of mediocrity but with it you can accomplish miracles." ---Og Mandino (1923-1996, Speaker and Author) One of the main three missions of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) is community service. To participate, initiate, and help promote significant programs have been some of our efforts. The following article was just one of the examples to state that Asians united means Asians power: Asian American Community Honors U. S. Senator Honorable Harry Reid By Tiffany Chang Asian American communitiy had been united together to hold an event and dinner party successfully to honor U. S. Senator Harry Reid. More than 384 against the 250 planned individuals of government officials, business owners and executives, organizational leaders among others attended the party at the Asia Palace Chinese Restaurant on August 24, 2001.*1 The Kenote Speaker was U. S. Senator Harry Reid. Guests of Honor presented were: U. S. Senator John Ensign (by Sonia Joya), U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley introduced Senator Harry Reid to the public with his successfully story to be the greatest political leader of Nevada arsing from the son of an ordinary family of mining worker. The first time as an honorable Master of Ceremony for Asian American community, Shelley' attractiveness and talent are really professional. She has been famous of her arts of leading on social activities since her college life. "On behalf of Washington Business and Technology Institute, I'm glad to be one of the Chairmen of this Event and Dinner Party for a Special Tribute to U.S. Senator Harry Reid. Following a successful tribute party to Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Becker, this Event is an united efforts of all our Asian American community. Thanks to Dr. Raj Chanderraz, Dr. R. D. Prabha, Dr. Ram Singh, Mr. Tonie Sison, and Ms. Rita Vaswani to join me as Chairpersons. Thanks to all our guests of honor, special guests, hosts, guests, and participants. Thanks to Dr. Peter Lok as our wonderful Coordinator and Ms. Nancy Diaz to initiate the plan of this event with me. According to the prepared introduction by Congresswoman Berkley to the Party, "Dr. Tony Lei is the President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) and Chairman of Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada. He received his M.B.A. and Doctor of Education in Institutional Management degrees from Pepperdine University in 1969 and 1980, respectively. Harry and his wife Landra were the last two people after the accomplishment of the pleasent and successful party to leave sending by Dr. and Mrs. Tony Lei.*2 The 2nd Edition of "Effort and cooperation will bring us a peaceful, happy, and prosperous community in Nevada" by Rory Reid, Mark Denton, and Tiffany Chang, which was posted by WBTI on September 20, 2003, stated the effort and cooperation between officials and Asian communities in Nevada. WBTI's e-mail address: tojulei@yahoo.com Vision and enthusiasm By Tiffany Chang The willingness to create a new vision is a statement of your belief in your potential. ---David McNally _____________________________________________ Carl Schutz told us that, "Ideals are like stars. You will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them you will reach your destiny." It is our pleasure to inspire the significance of the idea, "The world of tomorrow belongs to the person who has the vision today," which was stated by Robert Schuller. Having good vision, we will bring it together with us to help promote a peaceful, happy, and healthy community.*1 "Vision seems to be an elusive yet import life principle. Your vision describes the ideal future for you to attain. It provides meaning and direction while forcing you to break through present limitations. Holding a clear picture in your mind of the desired future will mobilize your creative efforts and generate the desire and energy to perform," edited Glenn Ekeren in his book.*2 Vision may develop its power to direct what tommorrow will look like. Vision is having an acute sense of the possible. The thing what others can not see, it can be seen by vision. Something extraordinary will occur when those with similar visions are drawn together. The goal of John F. Kennedy set in 1060 to place a man on the moon by 1970 drew many million people's efforts in achieving the dream. John had the vision. The result is now history with reality. "John F. Kennedy was a living example of Mitchell Kapor's belief that, 'If you can genuinely present a picture that makes sense to people, that unifies the seemingly disperate elements of their experience, if you can give people something they can resonate with because it's meaningful, then they'll be immensely responsive to it.' JFK presented that picture and America responded." *3 Enthusiasm is important, especially very important to many things in our lives.*4 We need to push our valuable vision through enthusiasm. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** There is nothing greater than enthusiasm. ---Henry Moore ***** If you don't have enthusiasm, you don't have anything. ---Kemmons Wilson, Sr. ***** Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm. ---Tom Peters It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren: The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek roots en and theos and means "God within." It is a fire, a passion within. Real enthusiasm is not something you "put on" and "take off " to fit the occasion. It is a way of life. Apparently Theodore Roosevelt possessed that kind of passionate lifestyle. In 1883, according to Bernard Levin, writing in Enthusiasms (Crown Publishers), Roosevelt went buffalo hunting in the Badlands of South Dakota with a single companion, Joe Ferris. They nearly died of thirst, and they slept on the ground, saddles their only pillows. One night wolves caused their horses to bolt, and it took some time for the fleeing beasts to be recaptured. The men went back to sleep; it began to rain heavily and they awoke, finding themselves lying in four inches of water. Shivering between sodden blankets, Ferris heard Teddy Roosevelt exclaim, "By Godfrey, but this is fun!" Now that's enthusiasm!*5 We are quite inspired by the words of wisdom as said by Alan Loy McGinnis that, "There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed." Vision with enthusiasm may bring us with hope to serve our people, community, and country!*6 "It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and an Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out the Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Communitylink of Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas, Nevad on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). "Please know that I irrevocably stand by my personal commitment to diversity issues in this state and that my sense of patriotism and faith in America stems from its embrace of that diversity." *7 ------------------------------------- References *1. Numerious visitors were crowding to here, yet Tunghai University had brought good conference and reunion news for Chinese American academic community of Nevada. On July 6, 2001, gathering to Las Vegas had been the directors and membes of Tunghai Endowment Fund for Academic Advancement (TEFA) and 12 - 13th classes of Tunghai Reunion. VIPs of ten individuals including Dr. Kang-pei Wang, President of Tunghai University, Mr. Bridge I-yu Teng, Executive Director of TEFA, were invited by Dr. Tony T. Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) to have champagne and delicious foods dinner at Gee Joon Chinese Restaurant of Horseshoe Casino and Hotel. Dr. and Mrs. Tony T. Lei were the hosts. Representative Gerri Schroder of U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley brought the achievement certificates to TEFA and CAAAN by Congresswoman Shelley Berkley to the dinner party. TEFA returned with the best Taiwanese box of tea to Shelley. After the pleasent and rich dinner, all the party group were treated to enjoy the famous show "Naked Angeles" by Dr. and Mrs. Lei.*2 On the 7th of July, a Welcome Tea Party was held by Dr. Tony T. Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) and Chairman of Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada (CAAAN) and and his wife Mrs. Judy K. Lei. It was held for the celebrating of the incorperation of TEFA USA and the Global Tunghai Reunion in Las Vegas. In the conference, Dr. Tony T. Lei expressed sincerely and heartily welcome in his short speech to both the Corperation and Reunion. He then introduced Theresa Malone, Member of the Nevada Board of Education, and Denise Brodsky, Las Vegas School Board of Trustees to deliver welcome speeches. Malone spoke for U. S. Senator Harry Reid's welcome to the Conference and announced Reid's certificates of commendation to TEFA and CAAAN. "Yet, with our differences we have a goal that is the same: to provide many opportunities for our citizens to learn and develop their knowledge, skill, mind, and character by formal schoolling," Malone said. "With support of organizations as the Tunghai Endowment Fund for Academic Advancement, and the Washington Business and Technology Institute, but most importantly You, we will fulfill our goal to promote opportunities for education. On behalf of the Nevada education community, thanks you for sharing your time and goals with us," she added.*3 Brodsky announced in her welcome speech that Congresswoman Berkley was giving TEFA and CAAAN each a certificate of commendation. She recognized that Mayor, WBTI, among others are sharing their same legacy to include building Las Vegas a community where future generations will have even more opportunities and advantages to live a prosperous life. The highlight of the tea party at Bellagio was the Congressional Recognition by Congresswoman Shelley Berkley presented through Malone and Brodsky to TEFA and CAAAN . On behalf of the TEFA, Chairman Wu and Dr. Wang President of Tunghai University received the Certificate. Dr. Lei also received the Award for CAAAN from Berkley. Thunders of applause from all the guests and participants brought a climax of this event in the Conference Room of Renoir 2 during the presentation of the awards. Chairman Wu gave a thanks speech to appreciate Senator Reid, Congresswoman Berkley, and Chairman Dr. Lei. for their hospitable welcome and supports. He was acknowledged the invitation by Reid to meet the Senator through Dr. Lei. President Dr. Tony T. Lei of WBTI, Chairman of CAN-DO Dr. Prabhu, among others were going to hold a significant theme party and dinner in August for Reid in congratulating his being the Majoity Whip of U. S. Senate. Dr. Kang-pei Wang, President of Tunghai University, was also invited to give a speech. He thanked the nice welcome and supports by the Washington, D.C. Scene, Nevada State, Las Vegas City, and Clark County. Acknowledgement was that this has been one inspired revelation that Dr. Tony Lei's long years of honest and excellent efforts to coummunity service in Nevada have been significant and fruitful. He said that Tunghai University is a developed university with many departments, graduate schools, and colleges. The diligent attitude of teaching by professors and the concrete research accomplishment of the graduate schools have launching this University to one of the famous educatonal institutions in the world. He also welcomed all Nevadans come to visit Taiwan and Tunghai University. U. S. Senior Senator of Nevada Harry Reid, the second greatest and powerful character (now Majority Leader) of the Senate in Washington D. C., gave a Certificate of Commendation of the U. S. Senate to Chinese American Academic Association of Nevada (CAAAN). It gave credit to CAAAN for "In Recognition of Your Outstanding Support and Contribution to the TEFA and Global Tunghai Reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada." Dr. Tony T. Lei, Chairman of CAAAN and his wife Judy received the award in the Senator Reid's Office on July 16, 2001. TEFA also received a certificate because of "In Recognition of Your Outstanding Accomplishment to the Academic Advancement and International Cooperation in Education" from the Senator. The Office of Senator Reid in Washington D. C. faxed Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute(WBTI) its "WHIP ROUND-UP". It told Tony that famous for Harry's ability to lead important negotiations while avoiding the media spotlight, Majority Whip Reid's day of keeping a low profile may be over. "The Washington Post" and "Time Magazine" touted Senator Reid's influence last week. The latter quoted GOP Senator John Ensign as saying: "If Republicans want something, they go to Harry. He represents things fairly. He won't over-promise and underdeliver." Senator Reid graduated from Utah State University in 1961. He received his Juris Doctoral Degree from George Washington University. In 1968, he was elected to Nevada State Assembly at the age of 28. After two years, he was elected as Nevada's youngest legislator in the state's history. In 1977, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. In 1983, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After having served two terms in the House, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980. On April 10, 1998, he was honored as Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Washington Business and Technology Institute. In December of 1998, after returning for his third term in the U.S. Senate, he was unaimously elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve as the Assistant Minority Leader. He was the Assistant Democratic Leader and Majority Whip of the U.S. Senate in Washington D. C. (now the Majority Leader of U. S. Senate).*4 Senator Reid comes from Searchlight, Nevada, where in that rural mining town he learned the fundamental values of hard work and honesty that endure as his guiding principles. The Nevada's Senior Senator was raised in a small cabin without indoor pluming and attended a two-room elementary school. His father was a hardrock miner with an 8th grade education, and his mother never finished high school, but the youngest of Harry and Inez Reid's four sons would go on to achieve the American dream. "Senator Reid loves heartily this country and our people. His leadership is accentuated with practical knowledge and deligent effort through his intelligence. He has achieved many years accomplishment to improve the quality of life of all Nevadans and help people realize the American Dream," said Dr. Tony Lei in my feature article entitled "Senator Harry Reid has been awarded 'Outstanding Democrat of the Decade'" on October 26, 2000.*5 "On behalf of Washington and Business and Technology Institute, I'm glad to be one of the Chairmen of this Event and Dinner Party for a Special Tribute to U. The lady has vanished, but her spirit remains with us. This is the seventh anniversary of its publication for the Volume III, Issue X on March 2000. In order to have our response to the creed of Seniors United --- for the people, it is a good thing to post some of the contends published by the Issue X as in the following: *1 Seniors United proudly presents our newly elected executive vice president Dr. Tony Lei Seniors United is greatly honored to have Dr. Tony Lei as our recently elected Executive Vice President. Dr. Tony is not a medical doctor. He is a very noted professor and President of Washington Business and Technology Institute. He has a background of achievement as long or longer than your arm. I am not going into any lengthy details about Dr. Tony's ability to reign as our Executive Vice President. The "Nevada Examiner" has done a fantastic job of telling us all about him and therefore I do not want to be repetitious. You can read all about the good doctor in the pages ahead. Dr. Lei points out : Knowledge, calls ultimately, for a life of service. We should continue to work for the prosperity of our society more diligently. Dr. Tony and his charming and lovely wife, Judy, have been friends of Seniors United for quite a few years. We love them both dearly because they are so very sincere and extremely devoted to the priniciples of Seniors United's creed. We are looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship. Congratulations to both of you. God Bless! Lillian H. Wallace, President Julian W. Wallace, CEO There was a photo shown Dr. Tony Lei and his wife Judy at the Center of the bottom on page 6 of the Issue for the announcement article written by Lillian H. Wallace, President, and Julian W. Wallace, CEO, of Seniors United. There is no charge for attending our forums. Refreshments will be served as alway at no charge. Cordially, Lillian H. Wallace Editor On page 18, it carried the article of "From the editor's desk': We had a most delightful forum on February 9, 2000, as always. We welcome...... We side-tracked our guest speakers for a few moments to introduce our newly elected Executive Vice President, Dr. Tony Lei, who really does not need any introduction at all. Tony and his delightful wife, Judy, have been members of S.U. for a few years. Both of them are on our executive board as advisory members. But today was a bit different. Tony was being installed as our Executive Vice President by Judge Mark Denton, a very dear friend to all of us. Judge Mark always tries to make our forums even though it may only be to say "Hello" and off he has to go. Dr. Tony Lei will be of the greatest force in getting the most important people to our doors. He knows about everyone of importance in Nevada and I am sure he will share all of them with us, particularly his Thai affiliations. Dr. Tony has had quite a few of his friends become our members and we thank them all. We are very grateful to the "Nevada Examiner," an American Asian newspaper that prints all the news about Seniors United. This is a great benefit to us because we become very well-known in the American Asian and Thai communities. We have Dr. Tony to thank for this coverage that reaches over 20,000 people. Dr. Lei sends his best regards to everyone and is looking forward to seeing all of you again as we all are. On page 11, Lillian wrote an article entiled "Recognitions Day - April 12, 2000". (2) Dr. William Thompson has been appointed Director of PAI by WBTI. (3) Sheri Vogel was appointed PAI Associate Fellow by WBTI. Tiffany Chang was the Author of the three articles. On page 25, it was a letter written by Sheri Cane Vogel, Project Administrator of Senior Citizens Law Project, on February 7, 2000. Sheri wrote Dr. Tony Lei that, "I have just received your fax of the article wherein WBTI appointed me as PAI Associate Fellow. Please let me convey my extreme gratitude for such an honor. The Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) is now one of the main institutions of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). "The mission of this School emphasizes the humanitarian orientation of public administration and the social responsibility of business management. "I want to thank you for my recent appointment as an Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution by Washington Business and Technology Institute. It is certainly an honor to be acknowledged by you for my commitment to serving this community. I look forward to expanding my public service by working with you and the Institute to continue to better our community. Your dedication is a wonderful example of what others should strive to accomplish," wrote LVSCP Attorney Natalie Tyrrell to Dr. Tony Lei from her Office. "I want to share with you my favoriate quote. Thank you for this honor and the wonderful dinner celebration." Natalie is now a Justice of the Peace of the Clark County Justice Court. Community participation is an asset for enhancing public service. True leadership comes from knowing when one needs to depend on other's knowledge. Leaders are individuals who help people understand their motivations for doing things. They set the direction and understand why the direction is important. Dr. Tony Lei believes that in education leadership is a call to help others. He has the quality that inspires people to do what needs to be done and to feel good about doing it. Balanced with his outstanding academic expertise, he is a servant of God for community service, sincere and humble but not weak.*3 By loving, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. Make service a part of character and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others. Let us fan the flame of service in ever-increasing circles. With this, we can envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. District Judge of the Family Court Cheryl Moss said that, "I've remained dedicated to serving the community, and I've been inspired by the leadership, wisdom, and guidance of WBTI's Prsident Dr. Tony Lei. I recognized that Dr. Tony Lei's accomplishments have demonstrated that taking part in the community with ones kindness and selfless service can contribute excellence as well as make a difference in the society." One of the important accomplishment of Dr. Tony Lei as a famous Professor of Management is the research and findings on computer education, institutional management, and the art of leading of his three notable books entitled "Information Management", "Business Management", and " Management Behavior". "A good leader should acquire the ability of and execute the following seven management functions: 1. Planning: to plan important task project of this unit; 2. Organizing; to master the organoizational system of this unit; 3. Staffing: to recruit the appropriate staff members; 4. Directing: to direct the people on the staff of this unit; 5. Coodinating: to coordinate the benefits and conflicts of this unit in order to attain sound cooperation; 6. Representing: to reprent this unit in order to coordinate outside concerns and relationships; 7. Budgeting: to establish and control the budget of this unit; 8. Systematizing: to use management information system throuh computers and multimedia for our modern business," says Dr. Tony Lei. "There are three models of leadership that a good leader, especially the leader of an association, may emphasize: A. Creative Leadership: The leader takes the most importance of holding the great principles to develop the future endeavor of this unit. (1) Sense of Mission -- to make the members not work as a job but high degree of the "concept of value"; (2) Foresightness -- to develop the future blueprint for this unit; (3) Teamwork Spirit -- to motivate the cooperation and success of the whole group; (4) Orientation by Objectives -- to encourage all the members unit put full effort on its clear and definite objectives," continues Dr. Tony Lei. "B. Humanity Leadership: the leader emphasizes the importance of his or her relationship with the abordinates. He or she motivates their work morality and spirit. Therefore, he or she should understand, emphasize, and hold of humanity in order to promote everyone's potentiality to endeavor for this unit. The key points are: 1. Trust; 2. Delegation of authority; 3. The Second Chance Theory (to pardon your subordinate); 4. Encouragement; 5. Help and Care; 6. Support and Assistance; 7. Training and Education. "C. Democratic Leadership: The leader respects humanity and allows individual development to make his or her group members cooperate and work by division of labor with self-motion and self-revelation. Its specialties are: 1. The leader endeavors to win followers by himself or herself with good personality and emphasizes knowledge and experience as the foundation of leading. 2. Subordinates have a full opportunity to participate decisionmaking and to suggest good idea. 3. The leader puts attention to the benefit of the subordinates, understand their needs, focuses the importance of the people. 4. The leader gives only some direction on the work planning, and leave the details of the work processing to the subordinates. 5. The leader has full opportunity to participate in employees activities, and they get along with each other very well. 6. The communication between the leader and subordinates is fully in good condition, and they enjoy fruitful accomplishment with good understanding. 7. The division of labor is decided by the group and the subordinates have the right selecting their work accompanists with the direction and coordination of their leader by their side. 8. The leader evaluates the performance of his or her subordinates objectively and renders fair judgement in giving prize or punishment." "In practically, the effectiveness of the above leadership can be attained by its flexible application in accordance with the right time, place, matter, people, and objective situation, " Dr. Tony Lei points out.*4 "In righteousness you will be established."*5 "In this 21th Century new era and society, we need economic growth, but we also need to establish and promote creativity, fairness and justice, serve and love, educational knowledge, and spirit engineering. We wish that a pure spring may prosper and enrich our splendid and golden country through: the power of public service that based on 'knowledge is the power of righteouness,'; the advancement of technology, entreneurship, and innovation; and the spirit that 'knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service'," says Dr. Tony Lei. "Thank you for my recent appointment as an Associate Fellow of Public Administration and Chairperson of the Community Relations Study Committee of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. It is truly an honor to be a part of this organization, as it plays an important role in identifying, researching, and addressing the issues facing our community. Your leadership and dedication to the community are to be commended, and I look forward to working with you and the Institute in this new capacity. Thank you again for affording me this opportunity," wrote Councilwoman Lynette McDonald from her Office of the Las Vegas City Council to Dr. Tony Lei. WBTI has reported continuously the accomplishment and advancement of the members of its faculty and advisory board through publications and multimedia across Las Vegas, Nevada, California, New York, Hawaii, Washington D. C., China, Philippine, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. One of its the most important educational technology is the WBTI website at http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti brought to you by "Las Vegas Review-journal" and "Reviewjournal.com". The presentation and publication by WBTI through multimedia and leading search engines in the recent fourteen years have highly increased the value and status of their positions of the academic institute. WBTI's e-mail address: tojulei@yahoo.com Governor Jim Gibbons Inaugural Address January 2, 2007 By James A. Jibbons*1 Mr. Chief Justice, Lieutenant Governor Krolicki, members of the State Senate and Assembly, honorable Justices of the Supreme Court, constitutional officers, distinguished guests, members of my family 杕y fellow Nevadans: First, on behalf of our State, I would like us to take a moment now to express our gratitude to the men and women who are serving in uniform, not only in this state but also around the world, making sacrifices every day to preserve and protect freedom an democracy. Also, please join me in saluting President Gerald Ford. His lifetime was dedicated in service to God, Country, and freedom. America was blessed to have his leadership and wisdom at a very difficult time in our nation抯 history. Next, I wish to thank my predecessor, Governor Guinn, for his many years of service to Nevada. Today, we celebrate the democratic transfer of power from one administration to another. It is a transfer that was born in the fall and celebrated in the winter, here today; and which by its very nature, heralds the hope of coming Spring and the Summer that follows. We now have a unique opportunity and challenge--to take the nearly 143 years of growth and progress that has created the Nevada of today, and set a course for the future. A future that brings together the diverse communities and citizens of this great state into a common cause- One Nevada. Together we can create a new ideal of what it is to live the American Dream. One Nevada is a place where all of our communities set aside what separates us, and embrace what unites us from our citizens who mine the earth, drive trucks along our highways, or serve our tourists in our hotels, to those that teach in our schools and those who enforce our laws, we come together ONE Nevada. We are striving to create a better state that will continue to be the envy of all those who seek hope and the opportunity for themselves and their families. In order to achieve real results for all Nevadans, I know I must reach across the aisle, and understand that the shared patriotism I have with each person here today does not create barriers but builds bridges. In order to reclaim the American Dream for all Nevadans, to truly have One Nevada- we must not only build these bridges- we must cross them together. We must not allow the interest of one part of the State to override the concerns of another. Some would call that politics. I would call it turning our backs on the lessons of history, for any great society that pits one group against another is bound to fail. The test of leadership is to find common ground and then to lead the way. That challenge, to find One Nevada is one that we shall not shrink from. When Nevada抯 first Governor, James Nye, placed his hand upon the Bible, he affirmed that the supreme executive power of this state shall be vested in a Chief Magistrate, and he solemnly swore to see that all laws are faithfully executed. It is this same oath that I have taken, and I am equal to the challenge. On that day in 1864, Governor Nye initiated a long-lasting tradition for governors who, in addition to their constitutional duties, assumed the enormous task of leading the people of Nevada a tradition of striking the right balance and course for our fledgling population, and determining this rugged western state抯 destiny. In the past fifty years, our governors have strived to improve upon what Governor Nye and others had begun. They made the tough decisions; together they oversaw the greatest expansion in Nevada抯 history and they contributed mightily to the protection of the Nevada way of life. 揕etting Nevadans decide what is best for Nevada is a hallmark of our state that has guided each governor that has served before me, and it shall guide my administration just the same. Let us strive to strike a balance between listening to the people and governing them. In Ronald Reagan抯 second inaugural address as Governor of California, he said that 搘hen those who are governed do too little, those who govern can and often will do too much. Fortunately, for the past 143 years, this state has been blessed with leaders who knew just how much to govern and with citizens who set the path for them to be led. That is the balance that we must strive for every day. All of us must share a common vision of one Nevada which can only become a reality if we agree upon what promises that vision entails. It is a promise to make all decisions with fiscal discipline and strive to renew our faith in the American Dream - a dream of home ownership, safe streets and bountiful opportunity. ------------------------------------------- Reference *1.
