Tue, February 1, 2011 8:31:55 AMThrilled From: Michelle Obama [info@barackobama.com]View Contact To: tony lei [tojulei@yahoo.com] Tony -- I am thrilled to make sure you are the first to hear some very exciting news. Charlotte, North Carolina, will host the 46th Democratic National Convention in 2012. Charlotte is a city marked by its southern charm, warm hospitality, and an "up by the bootstraps" mentality that has propelled the city forward as one of the fastest-growing in the South. Vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunity, the Queen City is home to innovative, hardworking folks with big hearts and open minds. And of course, great barbecue. Barack and I spent a lot of time in North Carolina during the campaign -- from the Atlantic Coast to the Research Triangle to the Smoky Mountains and everywhere in between. Barack enjoyed Asheville so much when he spent several days preparing for the second Presidential debate that our family vacationed there in 2009. And my very first trip outside of Washington as First Lady was to Fort Bragg, where I started my effort to do all we can to help our heroic military families. All the contending cities were places that Barack and I have grown to know and love, so it was a hard choice. But we are thrilled to be bringing the convention to Charlotte. We hope many of you can join us in Charlotte the week of September 3rd, 2012. But if you can't, we intend to bring the spirit of the convention -- as well as actual, related events to your community and even your own backyard. More than anything else, we want this to be a grassroots convention for the people. We will finance this convention differently than it's been done in the past, and we will make sure everyone feels closely tied in to what is happening in Charlotte. This will be a different convention, for a different time. To help us make sure this is a grassroots convention -- The People's Convention -- we need to hear from you. We want to know what you'd like to see at next year's convention, how and where you plan on watching it -- and the very best way we can engage your friends and neighbors. Tony, please share your input with us right now -- how can we make The People's Convention belong to you and your community? I can't believe it has been more than two years since my brother Craig introduced me at the 2008 Convention in Denver. It truly feels like it was yesterday. As I looked out at a sea of thousands of supporters that night, I spoke about my husband -- the man whom this country would go on to elect as the 44th President of the United States. I spoke about his fundamental belief -- a conviction at the very core of his life's work -- that each of us has something to contribute to the spirit of our nation. That's also the belief at the core of The People's Convention. That the table we sit at together ought to be big enough for everyone. That the thread that binds us -- a belief in the promise of this country -- is strong enough to sustain us through good times and bad. Barack talked at the State of the Union of his vision for how America can win the future. That must be the focus now, and I know so many of you will help talk about our plans with your neighbors -- that through innovation, education, reform, and responsibility we can make sure America realizes this vision. But, conventions take time to plan, so please help us make sure that your thoughts and your ideas will ring all the way to Charlotte. Get started now: http://my.barackobama.com/PeoplesConvention Looking forward to sharing this together, Michelle -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

Fox, our President and CEO, asked what people in your community are doing to address climate change. The response we received was truly inspiring. People across the country and around the world are taking simple actions in their hometowns, and it's making a real difference. Jan from Los Altos, California wrote in to tell us about an impressive project involving -- of all things -- a high school parking lot. Mountain View/Los Altos High School District announced that they will work with Cupertino Electric Inc. to build a 1.26-Megawatt solar photovoltaic system -- part of which will be located in the parking lot of Los Altos High School. This solar project is expected to meet 45% of the school district's current electric needs. What is your town up to? Swindoll And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment---wickedness was there, in the place of justice---wickedness was there. I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked; for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed." ---Ecclesiastes 3:16-17 NIV It's not often, Father, that we make such a statement, but today we thank You for the injustices in life that have crippled us and broken us and crushed us. Unfair circumstances have bruised us deeply and beaten us into submission to You. Inequities have brought us to such a dead end that we can't see the way back out. The only direction we can look is up. We often think that our unjust circumstance is what has ruined our lives . . . when instead, it could be the means You have ordained to give us life. Father, if those people we know who have trudged through the valley of the shadow of death were not alive today, walking with You and telling us to keep going, where would we be? How much we need their examples and encouragement! Thank You for each one. In light of Your sovereign grace, we thank You for blindness, for paralysis, for loss, for death, for broken dreams, for dissolved partnerships, and for disillusionment. In faith, we praise You for times of insecurity, failure, divorce, and even those when others have treated us unjustly. We see the storm, but You enable us to also see beyond the storm, so we trust You to make all things just in Your time. We believe that You sovereignly intend for good what others intentionally mean for evil. We pray for those facing the frustration of injustice in these and dozens of other categories. We ask that they may be able to find in Jesus Christ the strength to go on . . . especially those who have almost decided to give up. We pray that they will offer everything to You in full surrender. Everything. In the name of Jesus Christ, the Conqueror. Amen. See also Genesis 50:20; Psalm 23:4; Psalm 119:71; Ecclesiastes 3:11; Romans 8:28; 2 Corinthians 1:3-7. Dear Dad,It is good to talk to you this morning. It's a cloudy day, but God's love is always with us no matter the circumstance. Yesterday was the first time for me to lead worship in the cell group. I got the chance since the person leading it - Ryan is going to Malaysia to visit his family for the new year. Actually he was here yesterday, but I thought he was already leaving so I prepared the songs already. People were surprised that I can play the guitar. I played the songs: "Refiner's Fire", "Your Grace is Enough", "I Sing Praises to Your name", and "How Great is our God". Then we had a good prayer time and bible study. We prayed for 3 members who are looking for work. I pray for them that they will have strong faith as they wait for God. I pray that we will not rely on the things of this world, whether we have a job or not, but we will reply only on God. Later someone asked me how long I've played the guitar. I said about 15 years. Wow, it's been that long since I learned the guitar after being saved. It is a gift from the Holy Spirit. I also told them that when I was a young believer, I lead worship, but God took this ministry away from me to discipline me. I don't know if God will restore this ministry to me. But everyday I try to play and worship God in my room. Thank God for the ability to play the guitar to worship Him! Last Sunday I went to an all-you-can eat Crab feast at River of Life Christian Church. This event is to raise money for the River of Life Foundation. The ticket is $100 for each person. We can get $70 for tax deduction. I bought 2 tickets. I thought I will invite my coworker, but I end up giving it to my friend Ryan. I sat at the table with Pastor Belinda Liu. She asked me if I am now working here permanently. I told her, "Well, this is the only place I can find a job". Sitting at the table is DY and his wife. DY was a prayer partner of John. Now he is leading our cell group. I did eat some crab, but I most enjoy just being there with the people. Later they hand out the Foundation's brochure. I pointed to my friend that they set up a program in my brother's name called "John Lei's Kids". I attached the picture of the brochure cover page the page about "John Lei's Kids". May God be glorified through our family! Thank you for the good conversation this morning and the wise advice to be humble and appreciative in relationships. Even though I met some recent setbacks, but I have learned some things and I hope to do better in the next time. May God bless our family with new relationships to us! And May God bless our family with old relationships that we have lost in touch! Have a wonderful Saturday! Blessings, Mike -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

I’ve heard stories about your visits, and I know that you’ve been all over, and I’m a little jealous. (Laughter.) Especially about the skiing, although I hope (inaudible). (Laughter.) But we are very excited about this. I just was in Brazil for the inauguration of your new president. And that was a wonderful, historic occasion. And as you heard President Obama said in the State Of The Union, he’ll be going to Brazil to be there himself and to further deepen the wonderful relationship that we have. So I just am delighted you all are here. Hi Anne, nice to see you. So I think we’re going to do a picture. Is that what we’re going to do? So where am I going to sit? (Picture taken.) SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, first of all, as you’ve met Arturo and you’ve met Judith, I think – you know Anne too. And – (applause) – they’ll be able to answer your questions. We’d love to get your feedback about the program, because we want to keep making it better, and we want to have as many youth ambassadors as we possibly can from not just Brazil, but other countries as well. So your ideas, your experiences will help us do it even better the next time. So we very much appreciate that. So Judith, Arturo, Anne, do you want to maybe take a few questions? There’s (inaudible). Thank you all very much. And I hope that this is a start of an even better relationship between Brazil and the United States and that all of you will be part of our continuing outreach. So I want it just not to be between our governments, but – and our leaders, but between our people. So, thank you all very much. (Applause.) -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

News & Events Monday, Dec 20, 2010 Dr. Donald Sime, Founding Graziadio Dean, Dies Posted by bschoolMr. and Mrs. Donald Sime, 1974. Graziadio founding dean, Don Sime, passed away December 9, 2010, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dean Sime was instrumental in creating a key executive program at Pepperdine University. Longtime Pepperdine friend Steve Olson recalled Don in a 2005 interview for Pepperdine People Magazine. ~{!0~}I met with Don and his plan [for the Graziadio School] sounded intriguing. So between the two of us, we actually put together maybe 25 people to start a program in the downtown area. This was actually the precursor to the Presidential/Key Executive MBA program.~{!1~} ~{!0~}Don~{!/~}s vision for the school and his tireless efforts in the early years of what was then the Graduate School of Business and Management built a unique and lasting foundation on which we continue to build today,~{!1~} said Dean Linda Livingstone, who said it would be a privilege to continue his legacy. The Graziadio School of Business and Management will be forever indebted to Dean Sime~{!/~}s vision, dedication and service. ClintonFrom: U.S. Department of State [usstatebpa@subscriptions.fcg.gov]View Contact To: tojulei@yahoo.com Secretary's Remarks: Video Message for the Invest in the Future Conference Thu, 27 Jan 2011 10:12:42 -0600 Video Message for the Invest in the Future Conference Remarks Hillary Rodham Clinton Secretary of State Washington, DC January 25, 2011 It is my pleasure to send best wishes on behalf of the United States Government to everyone participating in the Invest for the Future Conference. By bringing together women entrepreneurs from across the region, we hope to help generate a long-term cycle of progress for you, your families, your communities, your countries, and even the world. The research is so clear: Investing in women is one of the best ways to spur economic growth, to accelerate development, and to reduce poverty, which in turn strengthens national security. We hope this conference will give you a chance to make contacts, form partnerships and friendships, and make plans together to increase economic opportunities for women, including yourselves. You know very well that women business owners face significant social, cultural, and economic obstacles. The success that each of you has achieved is a testament to your talents and leadership. We hope this conference gives you even more support, confidence, and tools to grow and strengthen your businesses. And as you succeed, you will become examples to other women in your communities and countries, and you will have the chance to mentor women who are seeking to launch their own businesses. When we invest in women, we invest in the future. I wish all of you a successful time together in Istanbul. I hope this is just the beginning of a long-term partnership for all of us. Thank you very much.

Our two nations are bound together by mutual respect, shared values, and the freedoms enshrined in our Constitutions. Our people and governments are forging an even stronger strategic partnership to promote a secure and stable world, and support even greater cooperation on economic development, open government, and democratic values. I look forward to my visit to India in April to advance our efforts during the next session of our Strategic Dialogue. The people of the United States and India -- united by these shared values and commitment to a safer, more secure world -- are working together to construct what President Obama has called an indispensable partnership for the 21st century. I wish all Indians around the world continued peace and prosperity in the coming year. -------------------------------------------- ********************************************
