[[[Barbara Buckley, a 46-year-old lawyer and veteran Democratic legislator from Las Vegas, was unanimously elected speaker of the Assembly on Wednesday night, becoming the first woman to hold the post.
Buckley has been an assemblywoman since 1995 and majority leader since 2001.
As speaker, Buckley will set the agenda for her party and decide who leads and sits on Assembly committees. She said she will announce those appointments in about 10 days.]]]*1

The Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) was established early in 2003. Drs. E. Lee Bernick and Keong Leong were appointed as Deans of the School by WBTI on March 11, 2003. "The mission of this School will emphasize the humanitarian orientation of public administration adn social responsibility of business management . Throuugh academic entrepreneurship, we may expect the endeavor of this school for the community service based on humane spirit, led by Chairperson Elaine Chao of WBTI," said Dr. Dina Titus, Professor of Administrative Strategies of the GSBPA at WBTI. Dina is a Senator and the Minority Leader of Nevada Senate. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at UNLV.*2

In meeting with the large and growing population of public employees in the states of Asia and Nevada, Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) will open its training programs for the increasing graduate study and research needs of professional public administrators. To emphasize the balance of the practicality and theoraticality of the programs, the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of WBTI has supported by many high-ranking officials of Nevada in offering their times, experiences, and knowledge to teach at an honorary or adjunct capacity.*3

GPCCC History

In 1968, four Chinese Christian students started a Bible study on the campus of Arizona State University. They met in the laboratory, in classrooms, and in homes. As the attendance increased, the students gathered regularly at the United Methodist Church near the University. They reached out to the new Chinese immigrants and students. In 1980, a fellowship of fifty people began their own Sunday worship. Their speakers included visiting ministers, and even their own members. The subsequent two years saw a congregational church being established and incorporated.

In December, 1982 Rev. Daniel Tan from Malaysia became our church~{!/~}s first Pastor. In June, 1983, we began meeting at the First Baptist Church of Tempe. The church grew to 110 adults and 70 children. In 1983 Rev. Tan and our co-workers foresaw the need for our own building which led to the establishment of a building project. In 1985 our Lord provided a lot in west Chandler, and in October, 1989, we moved to 1375 N. McClintock, Chandler. In September 1987, Rev. Apolonio Go became our church~{!/~}s second Pastor. In 1993 Pastor Derek Quan was called to shepherd our growing English Ministry. Rev. Kuang-Fu Yang became the Mandarin Pastor in 1997, and in December, 1999, he became the Senior Pastor. In January, 2001, Pastor Larry Lee, joined our staff as the Youth/Children Pastor, and Peter Liu became our Mandarin Pastor in August, 2002.

God has continued to bless our church. With a growing congregation of over 550 adults and youth, and 150 children, He provided us a new and larger facility on the NE corner of Ray Rd. and Alma School, Chandler.

It is obvious that man or woman is himself or herself a traveler. The good purpose for mankind in this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." The service that we render to other people is really like the rent we pay for our room on this earth. We are sure that the people who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.*7373

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

Twenty-five centuries ago, Lao-tse, a Chinese sage, offered this profound insight;
"The reason why rivers and seas receives the homage of a hundred mountain streams is that they keep below them. Thus they are able to reign over all the mountain streams. So the sage, wishing to be above men, putteth himself below them; wishing to be before them, he putteth himself behind them. Thus, though his place be above men, they do not feel his weight; though his place be before them, they do not count it an injury."
So it is with humankind. Those who wish to yield the greatest influence will unselfishly position themselves below others, so as to serve them better.
Bruce Barton told a parable two seas in Palestine that expounds on the wisdom of Lao-tse. One sea is flesh. Fish live in it. Trees and bushes grow near it. Children splash and paly in it. The river Jordan flows into this sea with sparkling water from the hills. People build their homes near it. Every kind of life is happier because it is there. The same river Jordan flows south into another sea. Here there are no fish, no green things, no children playing, no homes a building. Stale air hangs above its waters, and neither man nor beast will drink of it. What makes the difference between these neighbor seas? Not the Jordan River. It empties the same good water into both. Nor is the soil or the countryside.
The differnece is that the Sea of Galilee receives water but does not keep it. For every drop that flows in, another drop flows out. The giving and receiving go on in equal measure. The other sea hoards its income. Every drop it gets it keeps. The Sea of Galilee lives and lives. The other sea gives nothing. It is called the Dead Sea.
There are also two kinds of people in this world---those Dead Sea people who take without giving back, and the givers who remain fresh and vibrant by freely sharing of themselves.

April 26 marks the tenth annual World Intellectual Property Day. The United States has celebrated and protected innovation and creativity since George Washington signed the first American patent in 1790. The ideas and inspirations of our citizens fuel our economy, enrich our culture and help us meet global challenges from climate change to poverty, hunger and disease.*7175

Today, because of advances in technology and falling trade barriers, information and ideas circle the globe faster and more freely than ever. But these same trends have also increased intellectual piracy, from illegal file downloads to bootleg recordings to counterfeit products. Theft of intellectual property is a crime that erodes the incentive to create and poses a serious barrier to making legitimate products and services available to the public.

The Obama Administration is committed to fostering innovation at home and protecting intellectual property rights around the world. The President has named an Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator and at the State Department we have made intellectual property a diplomatic priority. We are working with our trading partners, businesses, and international organizations to protect intellectual property interests while opening markets for new technologies and products.

On the tenth anniversary of World Intellectual Property Day, we salute the scientists, inventors, writers, composers and other creative individuals who contribute so much to our common humanity. Let us work together to protect their innovation, and that of future generations.

A "CUSHION" OF PEACE...I remember reading about what is called "the cushion of the sea." The ocean surface is often greatly agitated, but as you descend, the water becomes increasingly calm. At its greatest depths the ocean is virtually still.

Similarly, Christians can experience a cushion of peace in their souls regardless of their troubled surroundings. That's because they belong to God, who is the source of peace; serve Christ, who is the Prince of Peace; and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who is the agent of peace. Galatians 5:22 says, "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, [and] peace." When you become a Christian, God grants you the gift of peace.
Turmoil exists for all who don't know Christ. They have no cushion for their souls. You, however, have peace with God through the death of Christ Jesus, and as you obey Him, His peace will continually reign in your heart. Don't ever let sin rob you of that blessed cushion. Only as you experience peace within yourself can you share it with others...JOHN MacARTHUR

ADVERSITY...Adversity is God's sharpest and strongest tool for re-forming believers to Christ's image, but He will not force change. The Lord molds His children in proportion to their willingness to be shaped for divinely appointed work. We can refuse to submit to His craftsmanship, but rebellion only prolongs the pain. The wise approach is to say, "God, I do not understand why You have allowed this hardship, but I am willing to follow You through it."

"Barber & Asian Americans"

There is this barber in the US. One day a Caucasian florist goes to
him for a haircut. After the cut, he goes to pay the barber. The
barber replies: "No charge today. I am doing community service."
The florist is happy and leaves. The next morning the barber finds
a "thank you" card and a dozen roses waiting at his shop door.
An African American cop goes for a haircut and gets the same
"community service treatment." The cop is happy and leaves. The
next morning the barber finds a "thank you" card and a dozen
donuts waiting at his shop door. An Asian software egineer goes
for a haircut and he also gets the "community service treatment." 

The next morning when the barber goes to open his shop, guess
what he finds there. A dozen Asians waiting for a free Haircut.
