Sat, June 5, 2010 4:00:58 AMInsight for TodayFor Men! By Charles R. Swindoll From: Insight for Living Add to Contacts To: tojulei@yahoo.com June 5, 2010 For Men by Charles R. Swindoll Ephesians 6:4-8 I don't often recommend a volume without reservation, but I think every man should read Temptations Men Face by Tom Eisenman. I'm not saying I agree with everything in it, or that you will, but his observations, insights, and suggestions are both penetrating and provocative. In fact, that book got me thinking about the top temptations fathers face. First, the temptation to give things instead of giving ourselves. Don't misunderstand. Providing for one's family is biblical. First Timothy 5:8 calls the man who fails to provide for his family's needs "worse than an unbeliever." But the temptation I'm referring to goes far beyond the basic level of need. It's the toys vs. time battle: a dad's desire to make up for his long hours and absence by unloading material stuff on his family rather than being there when he is needed. Second, the temptation to save our best for the workplace. How easy it is for dads to use up their energy, enthusiasm, humor, and zest for life at work, leaving virtually nothing for the end of the day. Third, the temptation to deliver lectures rather than earning respect by listening and learning. When things get out of hand at home, it's our normal tendency to reverse the order James 1:19 suggests. First, we get mad. Then, we shout. Last, we listen. When that happens, we get tuned out. Fourth, the temptation to demand perfection from those under our roof. We fathers can be extremely unrealistic, can't we? Fathers are commanded not to exasperate their children (Eph. 6:4). Fifth, the temptation to find intimate fulfillment outside the bonds of monogamy. Thanks to our ability to rationalize, we men can talk ourselves into the most ridiculous predicaments imaginable. Sixth, the temptation to underestimate the importance of your cultivating your family's spiritual appetite. Fathers, listen up: Your wife and kids long for you to be their spiritual pacesetter. Ready for a challenge? Begin to spend time with God, become a man of prayer, help your family know how deeply you love Christ and desire to honor Him. How about facing the music and then changing the tune? Say a firm NO to any of these subtle, sneaky, slippery temptations that have slipped into your life. Sat, June 5, 2010 9:07:14 AMSecretary's Remarks: World Environment Day From: U.S. Department of State [usstatebpa@subscriptions.fcg.gov]View Contact To: tojulei@yahoo.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Secretary's Remarks: World Environment Day Sat, 05 Jun 2010 10:39:59 -0500 World Environment Day Hillary Rodham Clinton Secretary of State Washington, DC June 5, 2010 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The United States is proud to join with the international community to mark June 5 as World Environment Day, as we have since 1973. And I note with pleasure the selection of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as North American Host City, reaffirming its leadership in regional innovation and in the transformation to a greener economy. This year's commemoration is more important than ever as we face unprecedented environmental challenges that threaten our planet~{!/~}s natural resources and biodiversity. Today, the United States is learning firsthand how fragile our ecosystems are and how quickly a treasured landscape can become endangered. As President Obama recently stated, protecting the earth~{!/~}s biodiversity, be it in the Gulf of Mexico or elsewhere, is a responsibility all of us share. The urgency and scope of our shared responsibility is reflected in this year~{!/~}s theme, ~{!0~}Many species, one planet, one future.~{!1~} Its is also reflected in the commitment of the United States to building global partnerships to preserve the earth~{!/~}s rich biodiversity. From protecting the forests in the Congo Basin in central Africa to preserving the coral reefs in Southeast Asia, we are working together to meet our shared challenges. We are strengthening partnerships such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Wildlife Enforcement Network (ASEAN-WEN) and working to build similar networks in Central America and South Asia. While we have learned a great deal about environmental conservation since the first World Environment Day 38 years ago, there is much more for us to learn and do. Let us individually and collectively redouble our efforts to protect the environment, for the benefit of generations to come. Meet Chief Justice A. William Maupin of the Nevda Supreme Court By Jennifer Kung"Jim Gibbons took the oath of office at midnight, becoming Nevadas 29th governor. He immediately appointed Phillip A. Galeoto director of the Department of Public Safety and announced that Lawrence J. Martines would become director of Homeland Security. Nevada Chief Justice A. William Maupin administered the oath of office in the living room of Gibbons home in Reno, with a small gathering of Gibbons friends, advisors and supporters looking on," released a press by the Office of Nevada Governor on January 1, 2007.*1 By the time Justice A. William Maupin was appointed to the District Court bench in Clark County in 1993, his legal career had already spanned 22 years in both the public and private sectors. While he handled murder cases as a public defender, he eventually focused on major civil litigation as a partner in the law firm of Thorndal, Backus, Maupin and Armstrong. Justice Maupin was retained as a district judge by popular election in 1994 and elected to the Supreme Court in 1996 and 2002. His term ends in January 2009.*2 Bill Maupin was one term as Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court. A graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno and University of Arizona Law School, Justice Maupin dedicated much of his professional life to improving the justice system. He was chairman of the Nevada Supreme Court committee on Alternate Dispute Resolution from 1992 to 1996, and is considered to have been a driving force behind the judicial system's successful arbitration program. He served four years on the board of governors of the State Bar of Nevada and was chairman of a Supreme Court study committee to review judicial elections. In1986-1987, he served as president of the Defense Trial Lawyer's of Nevada and on the boards of directors of Nevada Legal Services and Clark County Legal Services.*3 In 1997, Justice Maupin was honored with the Roger D. Foley Professionalism Award and was named in Who's Who in America. In 2002, Bill Maupin was named Fellow of Public Administration Institution and Co-Chairmen of Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commision (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) by WBTI.*4 "It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of Public Administration Institution and the Honorary Chairman of Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out the Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin in the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate Chief Justice William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). A paper published by the International Conference on Technology and Education inspired experience for the Implementation of Computer Education in Asian Public Schools By Tiffany ChangThe following is the main context of a papper by Dr. Tony T. Lei after his research of the implementation of computer education in U. S. public schools. The former paper on the computer education in U. S. public schools was published by the International Conference on Technology and Education for its ICTE New Orleans 1996 Conference: "To implemente computer education to public schools has been very interested by several Asian countries. In this era, there are three ingredients for a successful economy and business in the knowledge economy world: (1) continually advancng technology, (2) entrepreneurship, and (3) innovation. To learn and to imitate is one of the practical ways fo entrepreneurship. By following this philosophy, American experience and practice may play an important role to increase the possibility of success for the implementation of computer education in Asia. A study has tried to discuss several major pitfalls that have prevented planned changes in computer education from being successful. To cope with those obstacles, Agoura High School had a successful experience in implementing compute education. Research result revealed that the computer group surpassed the non-computer group in post-test mathematics scores after they were adjusted for initial differences in pre-test mathematics scores and for actual days of attendance. Microcomputes has been considered to be an effective tools for learning by Agoura High. The following pitfalls were the reasons why funds were ceased fo its ineffectiveness of the implementation of computer education though superficial success was reported by East Vermont Elementay School: (1) Ineffective Communication Teachers who were responsible for the implementation of the change were not informed adequately and fully. Institutional members wee mostly lacking clarity about the change that they were being requested to implement. More than half of the teachers influenced by the innovation did not have a clear image of the role play and work performance expected of them. (2) Lack of Developed Constituencies Before the implementing of the computer class, few effort was devoted to establish constituencies, neither it was there during the implementing. The high frequency of fail in efforts at change could in part be attibuted to the failure to see teacher as a constituency. (3) Ignorance of the Organizational Dynamics A review of the Vermont's story could let us know that one of the obstacles was that organizational conditions existing prior to and during the innovation's introduction were imcompatible with the innovation. Information were not provided by management in advance concerning the change, the need for it, and the way in which it would influence the people involved. (4) Lack of Effective Evaluation There was no formative evaluation before the implementation of the computer class program. Summative evaluation was also weak without the using of any proper achievement test. In short, there is no doubt for us to agree that pitfalls must be considered in implementing and sustaining changes in a public school." Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute, pointed out, "Computer education has been an urgent need for many schools in Asia. It is clever for us to learn entrepreneurship which has brought America the leading, prosperous, and advanced country in this world. It will help our implementation of the computer education better by using entrepreneurship with modern knowledge and technology." -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

I just got this email from my friend Barbara Boxer in California. She's under attack for telling the truth: that climate change is a national security issue. Her opponent - how predictable! - says Barbara is "worried about the weather." ... ..... ....... Press Release - Governor Announces Plan to Step Up State Solar Energy - June 4, 2010 From: Office of the Governor [nvg@GOV.NV.GOV]View Contact To: GOVPR@LISTSERV.STATE.NV.US For Immediate Release: June 4, 2010 Print Version (pdf) GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES PLAN TO STEP UP STATE SOLAR ENERGY Taxpayer savings and clean energy are top goals (Carson City, Nevada) ?Governor Jim Gibbons today announced plans to dramatically increase the use of solar power by the State of Nevada. Working through the State Energy Office, a Request for Proposals (RFP) is being put together to develop solar energy systems at multiple state agency sites. Generally, the idea is to place solar energy panels on state property, particularly at large state parking lots. Power from these solar energy panels would be used to provide low-cost energy to adjacent and nearby state buildings, resulting in significant savings to taxpayers. Design of the solar arrays would be structured so visitors and state employees could park underneath the solar panels. This is a giant step toward my goal of making Nevada a leader in solar energy development?Governor Gibbons said, We will lead by example and make use of clean solar power for state buildings.? Gibbons also noted, We will save taxpayers millions of dollars in utility costs.? The RFP will also include the use of vacant state land for solar energy development, but any solar development on vacant land would require the installation of removable solar energy panels to allow for future development of state buildings or other facilities. ... ..... ....... -------------------------------------------- ********************************************
