Kate Marshall (born July 22, 1959) is an American political figure. She is currently the Nevada State Treasurer. She is a member of the Democratic Party.[1]

"It's my honor to work for community service with people like Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, U.S. Senator Harry Reid, U.S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, and among others in an adjunct level!"

Kate Marshall was first elected State Treasurer in 2006 and re-elected to second term in 2010. She originally ran on a platform she called the Marshall Plan, which included seven main points she would emphasize during her tenure. The basic tenets were simple: Improve and implement programs that will save taxpayer dollars; reduce spending by becoming more efficient; and identify innovative methods for increasing economic development in our state. By the conclusion of her first term, six of these covenants had been met, with the seventh being considered during the 2011 Legislative Session.

Marshall is a 1982 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.[2] After graduation, she served in Kenya as a member of the Peace Corps.[2]

Marshall has served as a Senior Deputy Attorney General in the Nevada Attorney General's Office.[1][2]

On May 4, 2011, Marshall announced that she will be running in the special election for the Nevada's 2nd congressional district.[3]

The State Treasurer~{!/~}s Office administers the Gov. Guinn Millennium Scholarship, Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program, and the state~{!/~}s 529 College Savings Plans programs; safeguards Nevada~{!/~}s unclaimed property; and ensures the state~{!/~}s investments and debt obligations are managed prudently and in the best interest of the people of Nevada.

Three important bills with a direct effect on the Treasurer~{!/~}s Office were passed during the 2011 Legislative Session.

Senate Bill 220, unanimously passed by both houses, created the Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund.

Senate Bill 486 makes a one-time appropriation to the Gov. Guinn Millennium Scholarship program.

Senate Bill 75 creates the state~{!/~}s first private equity investment fund, whose purpose is to increase investment earnings for Nevada K-12 education, while also promoting economic development and job creation in Nevada.

The Nevada Unclaimed Property Division is currently safeguarding more than $400 million in unclaimed property. A Fast Track claims process has significantly reduced the amount of time it takes to verify a claim. A new Voluntary Disclosure Agreement program designed to encourage non-compliant businesses to conform to Nevada~{!/~}s unclaimed property laws without penalties and interest being added has also proven very successful.

In keeping with the Investing in Nevada~{!/~}s Future motto, two web pages are available on the office~{!/~}s website: The Student Page assists students, parents, and teachers, while the America~{!/~}s Military Heroes page provides quick links to financial information designed to assist members of the military.

In 2001, she was chosen as an honoree in the Nevada Women's Fund., Women of Achievement.

As Treasurer, Kate requested an independent audit and review of office contracts. Through renegotiated contracts and other cost cutting measures, taxpayers and account holders have saved millions.

Kate has been honored as Democrat of the Year 2010. A reception was held by the Paradise Democratic Club in honoring her as Outstanding Demorat of the year 2010.The Party was held on July 20, 2011 at the Bally's Skyview Room, 26th Floor.

SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, it is a pleasure to see you again, and to see you here at this important meeting. We have much to discuss when it comes to our bilateral relationship, as well as regional and global issues. I think we will review the progress that we have made since the excellent meeting that our presidents held during President Hu Jintao's visit to Washington. And, of course, I extend greetings to him from President Obama.

We will also have a chance to review the work we did at the strategic and economic dialogue that furthered our cooperation in a number of critical areas. And I want to commend China and ASEAN for working so closely together to include implementation guidelines for the declaration of conduct in the South China Sea. And, of course, we will discuss our mutual desire for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. And I look forward to addressing these and other important issues with you. And, again, it is a pleasure to see you.

FOREIGN MINISTER YANG: Madam Secretary, first of all, I would like to say that, thanks to the current efforts of our two sides, President Hu Jintao's visit to the United States at the warm invitation of President Obama was very successful. The two leaders have reached an important consensus, and they have pointed the way forward. So China would like to work very hard, together with the United States, to keep the good momentum of our relationship, based on mutual respect and mutual benefit.

And I agree with you, that SED has been a success, and the people-to-people cultural exchanges, and the high-level meeting that you had with the Chinese has also been very successful. And looking down the road, I think there will be a couple of very important multilateral meetings in which both our presidents and our top leaders will participate. I refer to the (inaudible) meeting in France, the APEC meeting in Honolulu, and the EAS in this very place, this beautiful island of Bali. And I am sure that we will work together to contribute to the success of these meetings, and I am sure that the top leaders will meet each other, have good meetings, in the course of these important multilateral conferences.

And certainly I would immediately convey the warm wishes and regards from President Obama to President Hu Jintao.

And I do believe that the conclusion of the guidelines for DOC is of great significance, and it will go a long way to maintaining peace and stability and good (inaudible) in this region. And this will also provide favorable conditions for the proper handling and the settlement of the disputes among the claimants.

I also believe, like you, that China, the United States, and the other members of the Six Party Talks need to work together. Anything we can do together to promote a better atmosphere and a good dialogue among the parties concerned, and to work together to restart the Six Party Talks will be in the best interest of peace, stability, and security of the region. And this is also something, I think, which will be warmly welcomed by the participants of the meetings here, and by the international community.

So, I am looking forward to the meeting. I think there is a lot that China and the United States can do together in the Asia Pacific region so that this region will continue to enjoy peace, stability, and prosperity. Thank you.
