Making Waves
Urban Fellows Culminate Year With A Presentation and Work Day
Students in the Urban Fellows program gathered to give final presentations summarizing their year-long research and service learning efforts in urban communities. At Holmes Elementary, a GSEP community partner school, Fellows shared their scholarly experiences while working at K-12 schools and mental health sites across greater Los Angeles. Dr. Donald Grant, adjunct professor of psychology, facilitates the Urban Fellows program which is dedicated to training students to work effectively in urban settings and respond to the complex issues facing these communities. Following the final presentations, Fellows worked alongside students, faculty and community volunteers to revitalize the Holmes campus as part of Sharefest s Annual Workday.
Dr. Anthony Tricoli Received Prestigious National Award
Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) alumnus and Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) President Dr. Anthony Tricoli was honored in Washington DC on Friday, June 11th with the national Ralph S. Brown Award for Shared Governance from the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). more>>
Dr. Carlyn Ludlow Named Associate Dean for College of Grand Canyon
Carlyn Ludlow, Ed.D, alumna of the Education Leadership Administration and Policy (ELAP) at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP), has been selected to serve as Associate Dean for College of Grand Canyon (GCU) in Arizona. more>>

Terry Walker, alumnus of the Master of Science in administration and preliminary administrative services credential (ELA) at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP), has been selected to serve as the next Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) Superintendent of Schools. more>>
Dr. Pardeep Krystal Kullar Named Dean of Summer Programs
Pardeep Krystal Kullar, Ed.D, alumna of the Organizational Leadership (EDOL) program at the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP), has been selected to serve as Dean of Summer Programs at Amherst College in Massachusetts. more>>
Dr. Kurt Suhr Selected as Director of Elementary Education
Dr. Kurt Suhr was named Director of Elementary Education for the Newport Mesa Unified School District. Dr. Suhr was previously principal at Newport Heights Elementary School. He received his Master's of Education from Pepperdine GSEP and completed his doctorate through the CSU/UCI Joint Ed.D.
Dr. Wayne Byrd Opens Los Angeles Based Marketing Firm
Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) Organizational Leadership Alumnus Dr. Wayne Byrd opened Los Angeles based marketing firm Midnight Buzz in March of this year. Dr. Byrd also serves as an adjunct professor for Pepperdine University s Film Department. more>>
Pepperdine University CABE Selected As Chapter of the Year
The California Association for Bilingual Education selected Pepperdine University as the Chapter of the Year for 2011. Chapter President Mr. Edgar Angulo along with Faculty Advisor Dr. Reyna Garcia-Ramos received the honor on behalf of Pepperdine University at the Annual Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center on March 24th. ELA alumnus and Principal at 135th Street Elementary School, Antonio Camacho received the CABE VIsionary Award.
GSEP Celebrates Education Division Commencement
On May 21, the GSEP community celebrated its new graduates at the picturesque Alumni Park at the Malibu campus. Thelma Mel ndez de Santa Ana, appointed assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education at the Department of Education by President Obama, recognized graduates of the Education Division that afternoon. In her role, she administers polices for programs to assist state and local education agencies improve success for elementary and secondary school students.

Michelle Bowers was selected to participate in the David L. Clark Seminar preceding the American Educational Research Association (AERA) conference this year. Bowers was one of forty students selected to participate out of a very large pool of nominees.

WAVES OF SERVICE
Waves of Service recognizes and celebrates Pepperdine alumni who are making a powerful impact on the lives of others and provides opportunities for service and partnership. Through worldwide service to students, fellow alumni, the university, and the communities in which they live and work, Pepperdine alumni are advancing the mission of the university and fulfilling George Pepperdine's founding vision. Participate by sharing your story, volunteering in the community, mentoring a student, interviewing and potentially hiring a Wave, and contributing to loan forgiveness funds that enable students and young alumni to pursue the lives of service to which they are called.
CAREER SERVICES
Advance your career by utilizing the specialized support and resources provided by GSEP Career Services. Assistance includes career counseling, cover letter and resume review, job search guidance, and interview preparation. Career Services also hosts PepPro, an easy-to-use database listing open positions, networking events, and other tools.

GSEP offers six master's and five doctoral programs across its five graduate campus locations throughout Southern California and online. Programs are fully accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and the American Psychological Association. Visit the web site.
ON CAMPUS COUNSELING CLINICS
Counseling is one way to enhance your coping skills. GSEP manages three counseling clinics at which members of the Pepperdine community can receive low fee services. The clinics are open to the public, and provide affordable, high quality, individualized therapy in a supportive and accepting environment. ALUMNI THERAPIST DIRECTORY
GSEP recognizes the importance of receiving therapy, but understands that many students face budget constraints. To help, the Psychology Professional Development and Clinical Training Department maintains a list of local alumni therapists that have agreed to offer reduced-fee therapy to Pepperdine students. The beginning of a new school year can be challenging for kids. Many of the youngsters at Hope Gardens Family Center will attend new schools. Help send these formerly homeless children off to a strong start by adopting a student with the purchase of a backpack and school supplies. GSEP will provide a list of items needed, along with the name, age and grade of the student.
We will deliver the school supplies to Hope Gardens on September 10th for Step Forward Day. Deadline to receive the supplies at GSEP is September 1st.
