For two reasons. First, Sen. Obama committed unequivocally to give Asian American equal opportunity, while Sen. McCain did not. See Sen. Obama's signed commitment to us below: http://www.80-20.us/data/obama.zip Second, Sen. Obama's party did more deeds for Asian Americans in the last 4 years. On Oct. 25, 2006, the Chair of The Democratic National Comm., Gov. Howard Dean, wrote to the President of 80-20, promising to work with 80-20 to encourage the Congress to hold a public hearing on the glass ceiling over Asian Americans in workplaces. After the Democrats gained control of the House and the Senate, the legislation sponsored by Congressman David Wu (D), was finally passed by Congress, giving underserved Asian American students the same educational assistance long available to other minority groups -- a historic first. Democrats sponsored immigration bills favoring family reunion, and legislations with stiff penalty for hate crimes. All of the above areas are important to the Asian American community. Not for publishing or coping please!} Aug 10, 7:24 PM EDT Clinton to headline second night of convention By NEDRA PICKLER Associated Press Writer HONOLULU (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton will headline her own night at the Democratic National Convention, Barack Obama's campaign announced Sunday in a nod to her strong second-place showing in the party's presidential primary. The former first lady will speak on the second night, Tuesday, Aug. 26 - the 88th anniversary of the women's right to vote. The campaign and convention committee in a statement called her "a champion for working families and one of the most effective and empathetic voices in the country today." The Obama campaign is trying to avoid hard feelings among Clinton's supporters at their carefully orchestrated convention. But they still haven't reached a deal on whether Clinton will be included in the roll call vote for the nomination, which could make the party appear divided heading into the final stretch of the White House race. The campaign said Obama's wife, Michelle, is slated to headline the opening night on Aug. 25. The high-profile appearance at the kickoff is a chance for the potential first lady, who has been attacked by critics, to get more positive exposure. She can also help explain her husband to voters in the most personal terms. "As the person who knows him best, Michelle will talk about the Barack Obama she knows and loves, the values that drive him, and why she believes he'll be an extraordinary president," said Michelle Obama's chief of staff, Stephanie Cutter. The yet-to-be-named vice presidential pick will speak on the third night, as is the tradition. Democratic officials say Bill Clinton is also scheduled to speak that night, but only the headliners were listed in Sunday's official announcement, made while Obama was vacationing in his native state of Hawaii. The former president plans to be in the audience Tuesday to watch his wife's speech. Democratic officials say she has not decided who will introduce her, but one option is her daughter, Chelsea. One Clinton adviser, speaking on a condition of anonymity because speech preparations are being kept private, said she wants to deliver a "forward-looking" speech that pays homage to the historic nature of the primary between a black candidate and a woman candidate without dwelling on the divisions. John Edwards, the 2004 vice presidential nominee who finished a distant third in the primary, was left off the speakers list as he grapples with revelations that he had an affair with a woman hired to produce campaign videos. Obama is expected to become the party's first black presidential nominee on the fourth and final night as the convention moves from Denver's indoor Pepsi Center to a bigger venue at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium. It happens to be the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. Clinton told supporters she is seeking a way for her delegates to be heard at the convention and be united after the hard-fought nominating contest. "Because I know from just what I'm hearing, that there's incredible pent up desire. And I think that people want to feel like, 'OK, it's a catharsis, we're here, we did it, and then everybody get behind Sen. Obama.' That is what most people believe is the best way to go," she said, according to video of the remarks taken by an attendee and posted on YouTube last week. Obama told reporters Thursday he thought the negotiations with Clinton aides had gone "seamlessly," but he also rejected the notion that there might be a need for emotional release on the part of some Democrats. "I don't think we're looking for catharsis," said Obama. "I think what we're looking for is energy and excitement." Advisers to the New York senator said she will almost certainly not ask to have her name placed in formal nomination at the convention to avoid a divisive vote. Under DNC rules, Clinton must submit a signed, written request to have her name placed in nomination, accompanied by a petition signed by at least 300 delegates. Some Clinton delegates have circulated such petitions, but the effort is meaningless without Clinton's signed request. Delegates are not formally pledged to any candidate so Clinton does not need to "release" them to Obama. The rules also say delegates may vote for the candidate of their choice whether or not the name of such candidate was placed in nomination. -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

Hillary Clinton campaigns Friday for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama at Green Valley High School. Photos by John Gurzinski. Sen. Hillary Clinton campaigns Friday for presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama at Green Valley High School. Returning to a state that gave her a signal primary victory, Hillary Clinton preached Democratic unity in Henderson on Friday, making a case for her supporters to get behind her onetime rival, presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama. "We had a hard-fought primary campaign, and it was exciting," Clinton told the crowd of more than 1,000 at Green Valley High School. "It was like the proverbial roller coaster. But we are now unified and ready to go forward together, and it is imperative that each and every one of us .. Since she conceded the nomination to Obama in June, questions about Democratic unity have swirled around Clinton, who at this time last year was thought to be the unstoppable front-runner. With Friday's speech, her first solo campaign appearance for Obama, Clinton aimed to dispel those questions and convince her loyalists to rally to the greater Democratic cause. "I know Senator Obama," Clinton said. "I've served with him now for nearly four years in the United States Senate. I've campaigned with him and against him for more than 16 months on the campaign trail. I stood on stage with him for 22 debates -- but who's counting. "I have seen his passionate determination, his grace and his grit," she added. "In his own life, he has lived the American dream, and what he wants to do is make sure that the dream is possible for everyone." A vocal faction of Clinton supporters say they can't stomach Obama -- people like Las Vegan Lillian Livoti, 55, who attended Clinton's speech on Friday. Livoti said she will stay home on Nov. 4 if Clinton is not on the ticket as Obama's running mate, something political analysts consider unlikely. "I really don't think that he's ready to lead," Livoti said of Obama. "I find him very inexperienced. He reminds me of my 35-year-old nephew." Livoti said the talk of disunity in the Democratic ranks is justified. She said several of her friends, all "Hillary girls," are planning to vote for McCain. "We feel there's been a great injustice," she said. Clinton drew overflowing crowds in the runup to the Jan. 19 Nevada caucuses, especially in Southern Nevada, her stronghold. On Friday, the high school gymnasium where she spoke wasn't quite full. Rather than talk up Obama's personal qualities, Clinton, in her pragmatic style, stressed issues like health care and jobs to argue that Obama was the right candidate. She reminded the crowd that Democrats have won only three of the last 10 presidential elections and said they will need all the help they can get this year. "Winning a presidential election in the fall is challenging for Democrats," she said. "It has been for 40 years and it will be again this time, which is why Senator Obama needs all of us. He needs us working for him so that he then can go to work for us." Clinton argued that Obama's opponent, Republican Sen. John McCain, would continue the policies of President Bush. "In the end, Senator McCain and President Bush are like two sides of the same coin, and it doesn't amount to a whole lot of change," she quipped. In what her staff said Clinton plans to make a prominent criticism of McCain, she stressed the issue of equal pay for women, noting that McCain voted against a Senate bill to bolster women's right to sue for gender discrimination after a Supreme Court ruling earlier this year sharply limited the timing of such lawsuits. "If you care about equal pay, then the choice in November is anything but equal," she said. "Barack Obama will side with women and families." Clinton also criticized McCain for voting against government funding for child care, against raising the minimum wage and against increasing the Earned Income Tax Credit. "Anyone who voted for me or caucused for me has so much more in common with Senator Obama than with Senator McCain," she said. "I urge you to remember who we were fighting for in my campaign." In a brief news conference after her speech, Clinton addressed questions about what role delegates pledged to her will have at the Democratic convention in Denver at the end of the month. She seemed to lapse back into campaign mode, referring to "my campaign" as if she were still in the running. "We are working that out with Senator Obama, my campaign and his," she said. "We are going to have a very clear message about how the campaigns will cooperate, how the convention will be conducted, and when it's appropriate we'll make that announcement." As Democrats feared during the heated primary, Republicans now have dug up the footage of Clinton's many critical comments about Obama to use as ammunition for their attacks on him. Clinton dismissed that as an "effort to divert attention from the inadequacies of your (McCain's) own campaign." Her speech came just as news was emerging about another onetime competitor for the Democratic nomination, former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who admitted Friday to having an affair while his wife was battling cancer. Asked about the matter, Clinton said, "My thoughts and prayers are with the Edwards family today, and that's all I have to say about that." Outside Clinton's speech, a few local Republicans staged a protest, carrying handmade signs. Diana Mleczewski and Kathy Jamison, both in their 50s, carried a sign urging people to vote for McCain. "He knows we have to do more than inflate our tires to deal with higher gas prices," said Mleczewski, who identified herself as a homemaker. "Obama and Clinton represent the elites," said Jamison, who also said she was a homemaker. She said Republicans like McCain are for the common man. Though Jamison acknowledged that President Bush came from wealth, she said: "At least he gives barbecues for people." Another Republican protester was dressed as a panda bear -- make that a Pander Bear. "Somebody stole my feet," said the black-and-white plush mascot, whose human feet were visible and wearing sandals. Nobody stopped to listen, but that didn't stop Pander Bear, who wouldn't give his real name, from accusing Obama of pandering to "left-wing organizations like Greenpeace." Not for publishing or coping please!} Aug 8, 6:51 PM EDT Clinton says she wants Obama to win White House By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY and DEVLIN BARRETT Associated Press Writers Latest News Clinton says she wants Obama to win White House LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton told an exuberant crowd Friday she wants Barack Obama to win the White House, even though he dashed her own presidential dreams - and she wants her supporters to vote that way, too. "Anyone who voted for me or caucused for me has so much more in common with Sen. Obama than Sen. McCain," Clinton told her cheering audience in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson. "Remember who we were fighting for in my campaign." Though she has endorsed her former rival, the speech was Clinton's first appearance at a rally for Obama since the two appeared together in Unity, N.H., in June. In another sign of growing detente between the House of Clinton and the House of Obama, Democrats said Bill Clinton would speak on the third night of this month's national convention in Denver. The Clintons' efforts on Obama's behalf may ease worries within the party that bad feelings from the long primary battle might erupt at the convention. She said Friday that "we may have started on two separate paths, but we are on one journey now." She said her long primary campaign against the Illinois senator showed her "his passion, his determination, his grace and his grit." The crowd let her know they still held her in high regard. They cheered Obama's name and waved his campaign signs, but no mention of him won as loud a roar as Clinton's introduction. Still, she kept her focus on making his case, mentioning key Democratic issues where Obama and McCain would differ - U.S. Supreme Court nominations and health care reform, for example. She noted Democrats have had difficultly reaching the White House recently and said Obama would need a surge in turnout - and registration - to win in November. "Which is why Sen. Obama needs all of us, he needs us working for him," she said. Some of her backers have complained loudly about the way the only female candidate was treated during the primaries. And Clinton supporters have succeeded in getting language into the draft of the Democratic Party platform that says, "We believe that standing up for our country means standing up against sexism and all intolerance. Demeaning portrayals of women cheapen our debates, dampen the dreams of our daughters and deny us the contributions of too many. Responsibility lies with us all." The platform committee will be reviewing the draft Saturday in Pittsburgh. After weeks of private talks about exactly what the Clintons will do at the national convention, no decision has been reached on whether delegates will actually hold a roll call vote that includes her candidacy. Such a move could disrupt or distract from the point of the convention - showing a unified party raring to return a Democrat to the White House. On the other hand, she has suggested that letting her supporters whoop and holler for her might provide a catharsis and help the party move on. "It's as old as, you know, Greek drama," Sen. Clinton told supporters in a recent speech to a private gathering, which was later posted on the Web. In this particular drama, the Clintons insist they are doing everything they can to get her supporters on board with Obama. Any reluctance, she says, is not hers, but comes from those who committed to her historic bid and are still unhappy that she did not prevail. Clinton did not mention any convention disputes in her remarks Friday. She later told reporters the two campaigns were still in negotiations. "We're going to have a very clear message about how the campaign will cooperate and how the convention will be conducted when it's appropriate to make that announcement," she said. Clinton and Obama may be on the same team, but in the past week they seemed to be running in different directions. In political terms, one candidate's catharsis is another's car wreck. Conventions at which the party appears divided can prove disastrous to the nominee's chances in the general election. Obama told reporters Thursday he thought the negotiations with Clinton aides had gone "seamlessly," but he also rejected the notion that there might be a need for emotional release on the part of some Democrats. "I don't think we're looking for catharsis," said Obama. "I think what we're looking for is energy and excitement." Giving both Clintons big speeches at the convention may help generate excitement, but it also gives them a lot of attention at a gathering that's supposed to be about the nominee, Obama. And Bill Clinton in particular has at times seemed grudging in his praise of the man who stopped his wife's able ascent. Asked earlier this week if Obama was ready to be president, Clinton gave a philosophical, not political answer. "You could argue that no one's ever ready to be president. I mean, I certainly learned a lot about the job in the first year. You could argue that even if you've been vice president for eight years that no one can ever be fully ready for the pressures of the office and that everyone learns something, and something different. You could argue that," Clinton said. The Clintons argued through much of the primary that she, a former first lady, was ready to be president on "Day One," suggesting Obama was not. The Obama campaign is pretty tired of that argument, particularly since it has become a key refrain of Republican John McCain. ---- On the Net: McCain campaign: http://www.johnmccain.com/ Obama campaign: http://www.barackobama.com/index.php -------------------------------------------- ********************************************

<<< An e-mail to WBTI from Dr. Dina Titus. We're Pulling Ahead - Pour it on! at Wednesday, August 6, 2008 8:03 AM From: "Titus for Congress" {info@dinatitus.com} >>>Dear Tony, Three months ago we launched this campaign by talking about the isues that matter to Nevadans and all Americans: Lowering gasoline prices Providing relief from the foreclosure crisis Ending the Iraq war Expanding health care coverage Developing renewable energy sources Protecting the environment Improving education. *1 These are issues that we all care about and they will be high priorities for me when I am elected to Congress. I am happy to pass along some new poll numbers that have really shaken things up. Conducted in late July, the poll showed me receiving 43% of the vote to Jon Porter~{!/~}s 39% with several third party and independent candidates in the race. In a head-to-head contest with Porter I move to a 7 point lead, 50% to 43%. While this is great news, it is important to remember that my opponent has been raising money since the day after his last election and that he is far ahead of us in both funds raised and cash on hand. I need your help to close the gap. That is why I humbly ask that you make a contribution today ..., or whatever you can afford! Your support will keep our momentum building. With your help, we can show Jon Porter that it takes more than the big dollars of big oil, big pharmaceuticals, and other special interests to win in District 3. It takes common sense ideas, old-fashioned values, hard work, and a willingness to put the common good ahead of partisan politics. And it takes the support of individuals like you who share these values. With less than 100 days until the election I need to call on you to make a financial contribution to my campaign. I ask that you invest ..., or whatever your budget allows, today! Together we can change the way Washington does business. I THANK YOU in advance for your continued support.*2 Sincerely, (Autograph) Dina Titus State Senator and Candidate for Congress P.S.
