*****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before June 21, 2007.When it comes to fighting for Nevada and our country, we're up for a good brawl every time We are blessed to have an extraordinary breadth of experience, compassion and wisdom to draw from! By Dr. Dina Titus Dear Tony, With the 2007 Legislative behind us, it’s time to look towards 2008 and the tremendous challenges ahead for our state. I am honored to have your friendship and confidence. Together, we changed much about the way campaigns are waged in Nevada. In 2006 we carried our message of hope and progress to every community, and that task isn’t over. Everywhere I go, our friends and neighbors tell me that they feel strongly our country is on the wrong track. Mired in conflict overseas and gridlock at home, the upcoming presidential contest will determine our course and the hopes that future generations will have for a better tomorrow. Here in Nevada we’ve had an opportunity to meet up close and personal our Democratic candidates for President. The choices we have are exceptional, and we are blessed to have an extraordinary breadth of experience, compassion and wisdom to draw from. Our country would benefit from any one of the candidates becoming the next occupant of the White House. Last week, I announced my endorsement of New York Senator Hillary Clinton in her campaign for President. Senator Clinton is my pick because of her plan that comprises real policy initiatives that can move this country back in the right direction. She has the experience and leadership skill that can create real change in Washington and Nevada will have a powerful friend in the White House who understands the challenges we face in our fast growing state. I’ve looked hard at the potential Republican nominees, and I believe that Hillary Clinton can whip any of them with our help. Our movement together has changed Democratic politics and the secret to that success has been listening to one another. I’d like to know what you think! Visit my blog at www.dinatitus.com and leave me your thoughts. With the organizing occurring around the Presidential Caucus on January 19, 2008; Nevada’s Democrats and our party’s organization grows stronger every day. We gave it all in 2004 and 2006 – and skeptics might be tempted to say, “What more can they do?” The answer is simple: every last ounce of faith in each other, every spare moment and every spare nickel in the defense of our state, our country and our values. When it comes to fighting for Nevada and our country, we’re up for a good brawl every time. For me, the objectives in 2008 are clear: --one more Democrat in the State Senate, ending the Republican Majority --one more Democrat in Nevada’s Congressional Delegation, and we’ll stabilize our majority in Congress. --Most important of all, Hillary Clinton in the White House to restore our place in the world, our moral leadership and bring hope to a new generation of Americans. After the last six years of President Bush and the first legislative session with Governor Gibbons, it’s abundantly that without the White House and the Governor’s Mansion we cannot move forward and make the changes we need. Stay tuned, and I’ll be writing again soon. Sincerely, Dina Titus Nevada Senate Minority Leader [From an e-mail by Friends of Dina Titus to WBTI on June 18, 2007.] --------------------- About the Author: Dr. Dina Titus [Alice Costandina (Dina) Titus], a native of Georgia, was educated at William and Mary, University of Georgia and received her Ph. Senator Harry M. ...communitylink.reviewjournal.com/servlet/lvrj_ProcServ/dbpage=page&... - 99k - Cached - More from this site "The willingness to create a new vision is a statement of your belief in your potential," pointed out David McNally. Carl Schutz told us that, "Ideals are like stars. You will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them you will reach your destiny." It is our pleasure to inspire the significance of the idea, "The world of tomorrow belongs to the person who has the vision today," which was stated by Robert Schuller. Having good vision, we will bring it together with us to help promote a peaceful, happy, and healthy community. "Vision seems to be an elusive yet import life principle. Your vision describes the ideal future for you to attain. It provides meaning and direction while forcing you to break through present limitations. Holding a clear picture in your mind of the desired future will mobilize your creative efforts and generate the desire and energy to perform," edited Glenn Ekeren in his book entitled "Speaker's Source Book II". Vision may develop its power to direct what tommorrow will look like. Vision is having an acute sense of the possible. The thing what others can not see, it can be seen by vision. Something extraordinary will occur when those with similar visions are drawn together. The goal of John F. Kennedy set in 1060 to place a man on the moon by 1970 drew many million people's efforts in achieving the dream. John had the vision. The result is now history with reality. "I've joined the faculty of Public Administration Institution to work with its intellectuals such as Shelley Berkley, Dina Titus, Nancy Becker, Frankie Sue Del Papa, Dr. Roy Adamson, Mark Denton, Nancy Saitta, Valoerie Vega, Jennifer Togliatti, Michelle Leavitt, and among others under the leadership of U. S. Senator Harry Reid and Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn with Dr. William Thompson as its Director and Fellow. It's one of our added assets that we have the excellent caliber of President Dr. Tony T. Lei of WBTI as our Senior Advisor of our Office of Assistant District Attorney. Obviously, we're winning prestige for our efficient work performance for our residents and visitors of Southern Nevada together with WBTI and its PAI's modern knowledge, rigtheous wisdom, and professional integrity," said Steward Bell, District Attorney, for the event and dinner party chaired by Dr. Tony Lei, Dr. R. D. Prabhu, David Amesbuy, Esq., and among others. It was held by the Asian American Community on June 18, 2002 at the Harbor Palace Restaurant in Las Vegas.*6 On September 23, 2002, District Attorney Stewart Bell wrote in his Office to President Dr. Tony Tung-tien Lei that "Dear Dr. Lei, I am honor and prviledged to accept your appointment as Honorary Chairman of the Clark County Distrct Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. I look forward to meeting on October 7th." In a second letter that he wrote on the same day stated that, "Dear Dr. Lei, I am honor and prviledged to accept your appointment as Senior Advisor of the Clark County Distrct Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. I look forward to meeting on October 7th." The two original letters were shown in the section of "Photos & Pictures". An elegant dinner party was held by WBTI to celebrate the appointments at the Steak House of Binion Horseshoe Club on October 7, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*7 Enthusiasm is important, especially very important to many things in our lives. We need to push our valuable vision through enthusiasm. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones: ***** There is nothing greater than enthusiasm. ---Henry Moore ***** If you don't have enthusiasm, you don't have anything. ---Kemmons Wilson, Sr. ***** Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm. ---Tom Peters We are quite inspired by the words of wisdom as said by Alan Loy McGinnis that, "There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed." Vision with enthusiasm may bring us with hope to serve our people, community, and country! We may like to agree with what Dr. Thomas Dooley said that, "Dedicate some of your life to others. Your dedication will not be a sacrifice. It will be an exhilarating experience because it is intense effort applied toward a meaningful end." "Dear Dr. Lei, I have read the wonderful article below and have learned so much about what is going on in our local community as well as world wide. There are so many important people who do good things for the community, and they should be commended for all of their efforts. I am highly impressed that you have so many friends and colleagues who communicate with you about their projects and activities for the betterment of society, including our Asian community. Best wishes," pointed out Cheryl Moss, District Court Judge of Nevada. Entitled with "Michael Douglas: Igniting the city through the cooperation and development with our expertise, integrity, and professionalism is on the way!", the artitle was written by Valerie Weber, Cheryl Moss, Ingrid Ou, and Jennifer Kung. "It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and an Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Communitylink of Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas, Nevada on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). "Please know that I irrevocably stand by my personal commitment to diversity issues in this state and that my sense of patriotism and faith in America stems from its embrace of that diversity." *8 "Our next meeting will be combined with our $5 Spaghetti Dinner 'Special Tribute to Justice Bob Rose' on Wednesday, May 16, ... The above is just an example.*1 The desire to persuit knowledge is for everybody. A wise man is always open to and looks for new ideas. One of the most precious human resource is the desire to improve. People can learn much by doing. We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones: ***** It may be all right to be content with what you have; never with what you are. ---B. C. Forbes ***** "I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think." ---Socrates ***** It's not where you are today that counts. It's where you are headed. ---Arthur F. Lenehan ***** Dicovery consists of looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different. ---Albert Szent-Gyorgyi ***** The man who does not read books has no advantage over the man who can't read them. ---Mark Twain It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren. *2 A young, devoted follower of Socrates pleaded with him to share the secret of acquired knowledge. Socrates willingly consented and led the young man to a river. "This is how," Socrates stated as he pushed the young man into the river, and then jumping in himself, he held the young man's head underwater. The young man struggled frantically to free himself, but Socrates held him tight and kept his head submerged. Finally, after the young man scratched, clawed, and fought with every ounce of his being, he was able to break loose and emerge from the water. Socrates then asked him, "When you thought you were drowning, what one thing did you want most of all?" Still grasping for breath, the young man exclaimed, "I wanted air!" Socrates smiled and then wisely commented, "When you want knowledge as much as you wanted air, then you will get it!" *3 Usually, change and growth will come at the time when we take a conscious step forward out of the anxiety and into activity. We are not a being to stand still. We are a being in the process of becoming. The more we enable us to become, the more we fulfill our true missions. ------------------------------------- References *1. Douglas, Michael; Weber, Valerie; Moss, Cheryl; and Chang, Tiffany. Through advocacy and education I believe we can reach out to those affected by this lethal drug By James A. Gibbons Methamphetamine, most commonly referred to as meth, continues to devastate communities and families throughout our state. In fact, Nevada is seeing cases where children as young as 12 years old are using meth. One Nevada study ranked meth usage among high school students 5% higher than the national average. The devastating reality for children as well as adults is that addiction can occur after the first use, ruining dreams and goals within minutes. The onset of addiction is almost immediate. Sadly, the recovery and treatment process is usually long and difficult with high rates of recidivism. I have traveled throughout the state and met with current and former addicts who share similar stories about their road to addiction. One point I often heard was that meth was both accessible and affordable. These factors, coupled with the overpowering addictive nature of this drug, sent them into a downward spiral. Hearing these stories and learning more about the process by which meth is made and therefore accessible prompted me to join in support of legislation that will monitor and limit the sale of precursor drugs that are sold over-the-counter. These common medicines can be used in the creation of what is now Nevada抯 most prevalent drug. Clandestine mom and pop labs use over-the-counter ingredients that produce byproducts that are toxic to the environment. The production of one pound of meth not only releases poisonous gas into the atmosphere, but also creates 5 to 7 pounds of toxic waste, which is most commonly dumped down household drains, in fields and yards, or on rural roads. Additionally, the at-home labs are highly explosive. Nevada has already seen cases where meth labs have exploded, leading to death and destruction in communities. To read more about the devastating effects of meth, click here. I encourage all Nevadans to get involved in local or statewide efforts to eradicate meth from our communities. Through advocacy and education I believe we can reach out to those affected by this lethal drug. If you suspect someone of producing or distributing meth, please call 1-866-2REPORT. [From an e-mail by Office of the Governor to WBTI on June 15, 2007.] ----------------------------------- About Governor James A. Gibbons: Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons earned a B.S. in Geology and later, a M.S. in Mining/Geology from the University of Nevada at Reno. *****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before June 15, 2007.Reid talks about the need to reduce America's reliance on oil I promise to keep the needs of Nevada as my top priority! By Harry M. Reid*1 Gas prices in Nevada and across the country are at record highs. Families who were already struggling to get by are having even more difficulty making ends meet. Even with the minimum wage increase that Democrats in Congress passed for the first time in 10 years, increasing gas prices take too much out of one's paycheck. That alone is reason enough to reexamine our national energy policy. But there’s even more at stake. Our current energy policy is also undermining our national security and polluting our planet.*2 ------------------------- Senator Reid discusses the need for an energy independent America ------------------------- It’s time to put American ingenuity to work to reduce our country’s reliance on oil and fossil fuels. Nevada can play a key role in making our country energy independent. Our state has a wealth of renewable energy sources including wind, solar, and geothermal. It is time to harness these resources and put them to work in a way that will create jobs, save consumers money, and reduce our reliance on oil from unstable regions of the world. As a nation, we cannot afford to keep sending $290 billion overseas to pay our oil and gas bills every year, especially if some of that money ends up in unsafe hands. This week, the Senate is debating an energy bill that will increase the production of renewable fuels, protect consumers from price gouging, make vehicles and buildings more energy efficient, address global warming, and strengthen our national security. You can learn more about the bill by visiting http://democrats.senate.gov/energy. It is time for our country to tap into its innovative spirit and renewable energy to work. As we move America forward toward energy independence, I promise to keep the needs of Nevada as my top priority. As I have said, Nevada is blessed with abundant sources of renewable energy and the growth of the renewable energy industry has already brought good-paying jobs to every corner of Nevada. I will continue my work to make Nevada a leader in energy independence.*3 With my warmest regards, Senator Harry Reid --------------------------------------------- References *1. About U. S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid: U. S. Senator Harry M. Reid is the Democratic Leader (the Majority Leader) in the U. S. Senate. He is a man who commands the respect of colleagues from both parties, and a powerful advocate for Nevada’s middle-class families. But he still lives in Searchlight … and he is still guided by the lessons and values he learned there. The Las Vegas Sun newspaper summarized Reid’s story by saying that he “has gone from underdog to Senate’s top dog.” Parade Magazine, the nation’s largest weekly magazine, identified Senator Reid as one of a handful of leaders in Washington with “integrity and guts.” Since Nevadans elected him to the Senate in 1986, Harry Reid has developed a reputation as a consensus builder and a skillful legislator. Even his Republican colleagues praise his reasoned, balanced approach. Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has said, “We all respect Senator Reid. He is one of the moderate voices around here who tries to get things to work.” And former GOP Leader Trent Lott said, “Harry Reid is out there finding a solution. I enjoy working with him very much.” He was elected to the Senate in 1986, and re-elected in 1992, 1998 and 2004. He has served as the chairman or senior Democratic member on several important committees and subcommittees. Reid is a tireless worker, and it isn’t unusual for him to be the first Senator of either party to arrive at the Capitol in the morning and the last to go home at night. *2. Reid, Harry. *****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before June 14, 2007.GOOD FOR NEVADA: THE 2007 LEGISLATIVE SESSION Nevada will become a better state because of our collective efforts! By James A. Gibbons I took office with pledges to improve our schools, make our neighborhoods safer and provide new sources of funding for building highways—while keeping the tax burdens on our citizens and our businesses low. The promise was mine, but it required the hard work of 63 members of the Senate and Assembly representing every Nevada resident. They did their jobs, and Nevada will become a better state because of our collective efforts. (Photo: State of the State address, January 22nd) Nevada students can look forward to record school funding totaling nearly $2.2 billion. Many students will participate in customized education through Empowerment schools, which will give principals, teachers and parents the autonomy to manage their own budgets, curricula and schedules to best serve the students of individual schools. The Youth Guard ChalleNGe Program will give a second chance to students at risk of dropping out of regular schools. (Photo: Signing education funding bill, June 6th) Nevadans will be safer thanks to new laws requiring better registration and tracking of sex offenders. In addition to the roughly $1 billion included in my original budget for highways, we have created an innovative funding solution that, through the use of bonds, will generate about $1 billion in additional highway funding—without adding new taxes. Now growth will pay for growth as we step up our program of building tomorrow’s transportation infrastructure. (Photo: Ceremonial signing of transportation funding bill, June 7th) Nevada homeowners will enjoy more protection under the Homestead Act and through a compromise to strengthen Nevada’s eminent domain laws. State employees and retirees will have more secure health benefits, thanks to a new trust fund which also protects Nevada’s bond rating. Our state will gain insurance against economic downturns by the addition of $36 million to the Rainy Day fund. Before and during the session, I made it very clear that I would not accept any new or increased taxes. This was more than a campaign slogan; it was a promise to the citizens of Nevada. It was a promise the Legislature understood and respected. Legislators may rightfully boast of many more accomplishments, but these essentially fulfill the requests I made on behalf of the people of Nevada. I would like to express my gratitude to both the Assembly and the Senate, and especially to Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley. (Photo: Announcing agreement on education budget with legislative leadership, May 29th) Nevada is becoming an even greater state, and its residents may look forward to even better lives over the next two years—thanks in no small part to the excellent work of the 2007 Nevada Legislature. The following report in Chinese is posted through the courtesy of the "科技新聞" of Worldjournal.com:Ask.com革新搜尋結果頁面 採用直列三欄式呈現 爭取市場不遺餘力 [[[搜尋結果頁面大突破 Ask.com網站將開始分三欄呈現搜索結果,而不是普通的擠成一堆。 [2007-06-07] *6 | |

The following are some parts of introduction about him on Google.com. Any modification on them or richness about his achievements that our readers and his family may extend to WBTI will highly be appreciated: [[[ Chen Chi-kwan fused tradition and modernism to change the face of Chinese painting. At National Central University's commencement ceremony last year, a raft of fresh-faced young scholars took their first steps into the world, but all eyes were fixed on an unconventional graduate. With cane in hand and a childlike grin, 83-year-old architect and artist Chen Chi-kwan was conferred an honorary doctorate from his transposed alma mater. Unable to afford the Harvard tuition, Chen was thrilled when Gropius invited him to work at his firm. Chen seized the golden opportunity and set out to prove to Gropius that he made the right decision. A year later, with Gropius' recommendation, Chen began teaching architectural design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1954, Chen received an invitation from I.M. Pei in New York to participate in the campus design project for the newly founded Tunghai University in central Taiwan. Chen accepted the invitation on one condition, that his name be recorded together with Pei's. The idea of the project was to create a recognizably Chinese campus. It was this project that brought Chen to Taiwan for the first time and made him known for the successful incorporation of Chinese elements into modern architecture. The Luce Chapel, built in memory of Henry W. Luce, founding publisher of Time and Life magazines, was central to the whole project. Although the design came to the public eye in the 1957 March issue of Architectural Forum, the chapel remained on paper until 1960 when funding finally came through. Chen accepted the university's invitation to establish an architectural department while overseeing the construction of the chapel. In November 1963, construction was completed on the elegant chapel that seemed to rise above the ground like two pairs of praying hands. Chen was dean of the university's architectural department for four years before he started his own firm in 1964. ]]] *1 The following information have been just received from TEFA: TEFA NEWS 2007-06-08 *2 ChinaTimes reports on Prof. Chi-Kwan Chen passed away [[[ The report in Chinese by "China Times". *****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before June 6, 2007.Our Moment -- Our Movement! Together, we can create a better tomorrow for our Earth if we seize this vital moment By Al Gore*1 [[[ Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit (Plume) (Paperback) by Al Gore (Author) "I was standing in the sun on the hot steel deck of a fishing ship capable of processing a fifty-ton catch on a good day..." (more) {Qouted by the Editor of this flier.} ]]]*2 Dear Friend, A few weeks ago I read John and Teresa's book, This Moment on Earth. I found the stories within, about men and women fighting the great fight for our environment, to be a profound challenge to all of us. These activists provide valuable lessons on the power of people working for change. If we embrace their resourcefulness, determination and essential patriotism we will prevail in the fight to save our planet.*3 I was inspired by their work, and I know you will be too. You can purchase a copy of This Moment on Earth at your local bookstore or by clicking here: Buy the book (*This is a website on the original e-mail.) The book comes at an important time, a vital moment on Earth. Right now our nation is ready to cross the tipping point beyond which our leaders will be forced to take real action to solve the climate crisis. However, in order to cross that threshold it is going to take a sufficient expression of political will. Most of our Representatives in Washington know there is no longer a debate about the fact that the climate crisis is real -- and they know the serious consequences our planet faces if we fail to act. Political will is a renewable resource, and enough already exists to start solving this crisis. We just have to communicate that forcefully to the political leaders of our country. As John and Teresa's book demonstrates, the most powerful way to realize that change is through the activism of the American people. That is why a few months ago I began building a movement at AlGore.com. Already we have grown to a community of more than 550,000. In order to ultimately succeed we will need to grow even bigger. Today I want to invite you to join our movement to solve the climate crisis by visiting: http://www.algore.com/join/ For many years, I have worked with John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry to fight for a solution to the climate crisis -- way before it was fashionable. Indeed, they were providing outstanding and courageous leadership on these vital questions when very few people in the world were even paying attention to these challenges. This commitment continues in their important new book. I urge you to join me in working for change. And I urge you to read John and Teresa's wonderful new book for moving and inspiring illustrations of the potential power of Americans working for a better planet. Together, we can create a better tomorrow for our Earth if we seize this vital moment. Thank you,*4 [[[ "If we stand together and speak with many strong voices, ..., we will bring change," pointed out John Kerry. ]]]*5 -------------------------------------------- References *1.
