Vision and enthusiasm
By Tiffany Chang

The willingness to create a new vision is a statement of your belief in your potential.

---David McNally

_____________________________________________
Carl Schutz told us that, "Ideals are like stars. You will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them you will reach your destiny." It is our pleasure to inspire the significance of the idea, "The world of tomorrow belongs to the person who has the vision today," which was stated by Robert Schuller. Having good vision, we will bring it together with us to help promote a peaceful, happy, and healthy community.*1

"Vision seems to be an elusive yet import life principle. Your vision describes the ideal future for you to attain. It provides meaning and direction while forcing you to break through present limitations. Holding a clear picture in your mind of the desired future will mobilize your creative efforts and generate the desire and energy to perform," edited Glenn Ekeren in his book.*2

Vision may develop its power to direct what tommorrow will look like. Vision is having an acute sense of the possible. The thing what others can not see, it can be seen by vision. Something extraordinary will occur when those with similar visions are drawn together. The goal of John F. Kennedy set in 1060 to place a man on the moon by 1970 drew many million people's efforts in achieving the dream. John had the vision. The result is now history with reality.

"John F. Kennedy was a living example of Mitchell Kapor's belief that, 'If you can genuinely present a picture that makes sense to people, that unifies the seemingly disperate elements of their experience, if you can give people something they can resonate with because it's meaningful, then they'll be immensely responsive to it.' JFK presented that picture and America responded." *3

Enthusiasm is important, especially very important to many things in our lives.*4 We need to push our valuable vision through enthusiasm. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

***** There is nothing greater than enthusiasm. ---Henry Moore
***** If you don't have enthusiasm, you don't have anything. ---Kemmons Wilson, Sr.
***** Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm. ---Tom Peters

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek roots en and theos and means "God within." It is a fire, a passion within. Real enthusiasm is not something you "put on" and "take off " to fit the occasion. It is a way of life.
Apparently Theodore Roosevelt possessed that kind of passionate lifestyle. In 1883, according to Bernard Levin, writing in Enthusiasms (Crown Publishers), Roosevelt went buffalo hunting in the Badlands of South Dakota with a single companion, Joe Ferris. They nearly died of thirst, and they slept on the ground, saddles their only pillows. One night wolves caused their horses to bolt, and it took some time for the
fleeing beasts to be recaptured. The men went back to sleep; it began to rain heavily and they awoke, finding themselves lying in four inches of water. Shivering between sodden blankets, Ferris heard Teddy Roosevelt exclaim, "By Godfrey, but this is fun!"
Now that's enthusiasm!*5

We are quite inspired by the words of wisdom as said by Alan Loy McGinnis that, "There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed." Vision with enthusiasm may bring us with hope to serve our people, community, and country!*6

"It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and an Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out the Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Communitylink of Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas, Nevad on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). "Please know that I irrevocably stand by my personal commitment to diversity issues in this state and that my sense of patriotism and faith in America stems from its embrace of that diversity." *7

By Tiffany Chang

From now on,
any definition of a successful life
must include serving others.

Valerie Weber has good knowledge and talent in business and public service. She is now an achieved Assemblywoman of Nevada.

We may like to agree with what Dr. Thomas Dooley said that, "Dedicate some of your life to others. Your dedication will not be a sacrifice. It will be an exhilarating experience because it is intense effort applied toward a meaningful end." *2

"Dear Dr. Lei, I have read the wonderful article below and have learned so much about what is going on in our local community as well as world wide. There are so many important people who do good things for the community, and they should be commended for all of their efforts. I am highly impressed that you have so many friends and colleagues who communicate with you about their projects and activities for the betterment of society, including our Asian community. Best wishes," pointed out Cheryl Moss, District Court Judge of Nevada.*3

100 Days of Progress and Counting
By Harry M. Reid*1

This week, the Senate marked the 100th day of the 110th Congress. For Nevadans, this has been a period of great progress. When I became Senate Majority Leader, I promised to get Congress back to work so we could produce meaningful results for Nevada and the nation.*2

The first thing we did was pass the toughest lobbying and ethics reform legislation in our nations history to restore the public's faith in Congress.

After five years, the Senate finally passed the recommendations of the bipartisan 9/11 Commission to make America safer and more secure. At my insistence, this legislation included funding to increase Customs Border Patrol agents at McCarran International Airport.

A bipartisan majority of the United States Senate voted against the President's flawed plan to escalate the war in Iraq and joined with the House of Representatives in telling the President it is time to change course in Iraq.

We passed a responsible, balanced, pay-as-you-go budget that cut taxes for working people and invested more in education, veterans, and health care. I ensured the budget included an extension of the state sales tax deduction and my Combat Related Special Compensation legislation, which allows disabled veterans to receive both disability compensation and retirement pay.

I introduced the Prevention First Act, which will reduce the number of unintended pregnancies and abortions, and will increase access to contraception.

With my help, former Nevada Test Site workers who contracted cancer from their work during the under-ground nuclear tests, are one step closer to receiving the compensation they deserve.

I worked with Senator Ensign and other members of the delegation on legislation that will release 80 acres of federal land in Las Vegas for the expansion of the Nevada Cancer Institute.

I am also working on strengthening rural Nevada. As a result of legislation I sponsored, the Secure Rural Schools Act and Payment in Lieu of Taxes legislation would bring almost $130 million to rural Nevada through 2012.

And this week, the Senate passed legislation to pursue stem cell research, which offers hope to thousands of Nevadans who are suffering from Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cancer, spinal injuries and other debilitating afflictions.

Our work is not complete. Many of the bills mentioned above will need to be reconciled with the House, but we have made great progress. In the weeks ahead, we will turn our focus to some of the greatest challenges facing Nevada. We will work to reduce the costs of drugs for senior citizens by allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. We will consider legislation to set new national energy policy, ending our dependence on foreign and unsustainable energy sources, and we will make college affordability a priority. Finally, we will consider a comprehensive immigration reform bill that will include strong and effective enforcement of our borders and tough sanctions against employers who hire undocumented immigrants.

I am proud to be your voice in the United States Senate, and hope we will continue to communicate with each other. Speak up and be heard!*3

*1. About Senator Harry Reid (a concise one by the Editor of this flier): U. S. Senator Harry M. Reid is the Democratic Leader (now Majority Leader) in the U. S. Senate. He is a man who commands the respect of colleagues from both parties, and a powerful advocate for Nevadas middle-class families.
But he still lives in Searchlight and he is still guided by the lessons and values he learned there.
The Las Vegas Sun newspaper summarized Reids story by saying that he has gone from underdog to Senates top dog.
Parade Magazine, the nations largest weekly magazine, identified Senator Reid as one of a handful of leaders in Washington with integrity and guts.
Since Nevadans elected him to the Senate in 1986, Harry Reid has developed a reputation as a consensus builder and a skillful legislator. Even his Republican colleagues praise his reasoned, balanced approach.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has said, We all respect Senator Reid. He is one of the moderate voices around here who tries to get things to work.
And former GOP Leader Trent Lott said, Harry Reid is out there finding a solution. I enjoy working with him very much.
He was elected to the Senate in 1986, and re-elected in 1992, 1998 and 2004. He has served as the chairman or senior Democratic member on several important committees and subcommittees.
Reid is a tireless worker, and it isnt unusual for him to be the first Senator of either party to arrive at the Capitol in the morning and the last to go home at night.

"How to Treat People" and "Effective Communication" through a spirit of kindness!
By Tiffany Chang

***** Life is meant to be a never-ending education, and when this is fully appreciated, we are no longer survivors but adventurers. ---David McNally, Even Eagles Need a Push*1

There are five lessons of "How to Treat People." The second Important Lesson of them is 'Pickup in the Rain' as in the following:

An American woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway trying to endure a lashing rainstorm. Her car had broken down and she desperately needed a ride. Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car. A young white man stoppped to help her, generally unhear of in those conflict-filled 1960s. The man took her to safety, helped her get assistance and put her into a taxicab. She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a knock came on the man's door. To his surprise, a giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A special note was attached. It read: "Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway and unselfishly serving others." Sincerely, Mrs. Nat King Cole.*2

NOW more than ever - Peace It On....Pay It Forward. The best thing we can learn from children is that they known no limits nor boundaries. Their dreams and imaginations are the cornerstone of inspiration and what can be, not what is.*3

Think about the people you know. Which of them would you call successful communicators? What do these people have in common? The individuals on your list probably share five qualities. Effective communication requires perception, precision, credibility, control, and eongeniality:*4

(1). Perception. They are able to predict how their message will be received. They anticipate your reaction and shape the message according. They read your response correctly and constantly adjust to correct any misunderstanding.

(2). Precision. They create a "meeting of the minds." When they finish expressing themselves, you share the same mental picture.

(3). Credibility. They are believable. You have faith in the substance of their message. You trust their information and their intentions.

(4). Control. They shape your response. Depending on their purpose, they can make you laugh or cry, calm down, change your mind, or take action.

(5). Congeniality. They maintain friendly, pleasant, relations with the audince. Regardless of whether you agree with them, good communicators command your respect and goodwill. You are willing to work with them again, despite your differences.

The good words from the "Bible" are always inspired:*5

Jesus said, "I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown." -- Revelation 3:11 "Bible"

The tongue of the righteous is the choice silver. -- Proverbs 10:20 "Bible"

The tongue of the wise commends knowledge.
-- Proverbs 15:2 "Bible"

When you walk into your first job as an MBA, all eyes will be on you. There are thirty-seven secrets to brandishing the confidence, wisdom, and polish of someone who has worked at a firm three years --- even when you have only been there just a few weeks. The following is the 'Seven communication laws you better not break,' written by Jon Housman:*6

1. Know what you don't know. "When smart young people start a job, they want to impress you. So they talk a lot," says Scott Koppelman, a senior financial adviser at First Union Securities Financial Network in New York. "But actually, that's perceived as a negative. I'm looking for someone who's aggressive but who knows when to listen." Rule of thumb: Listen four times more than you talk.

2. Treat your boss as if he were a client.

3. E-mail is not a crutch, a wall to hide behind, or any other metaphor, for that matter. It should never be a substitute for dealing with a problem in person, says Cella Irvine, a Harvard MBA and former senior manager at an Internet company. By addressing the first rift that comes along face-to-face rather than from your PDA, you'll immediately establish yourself as someone who doesn't shy away from situations and has good interpersonal skills. Bothered by an assistant's sloppiness? An associate's wisecrack? Tell them politely and forthrightly. Using your mouth. Otherwise, you'll be pegged as an e-mail coward.

4. Don't talk business in the bathroom. It puts people in the awkward spot of having to agree with you because they don't want to prolong the conversation. Managers tend to resent being put in an awkward spot. They're funny like that.

5. When your boss calls you at home on a Saturday, speak as if you were sitting at your desk. Do not mention that you're taking something out of the oven or that the delivery guy is at the door.

6. From a third-year associate at a bulge-bracket investment bank:"My firm has an open-door policy, which is great. But always pause for a moment before asking a senior person a question to make sure it's not something a peer could answer. A new hire who was junior to me once went straight to the director with a question I could have answered easily. He made us both look stupid."

6. You're working with your boss on a project, and he's plumb wrong about something. "You have to tell him when no one else is around," says Jana Carlson, a professional recruiter at the Blackstore Group in New York." I think this number might be off. Do you want me to double-check it? Pose it as a question, not as "You're wrong." Of course, you'd better be very sure he's wrong."

Five of the quatations by Russell Wild are valuable to put them here:*7

A. Prove Your Point
I know my students won't remember every formula. but I want them to remember this: There is no substitute for being able to convince people that your ideas are right, that your ideas are better. How do you do this? Part of it is knowing how to listen to people, part of it is knowing how to treat your peers well. --- Bhaskaran Swaminathan

B. Outsmart the Computer
A student may be able to get an A in the classroom by memorizing a formula, but if he wants to succeed in business, he has to know why the equation works and when it can be applied. If a student's knowledge of a theory doesn't move from the abstract to the concrete, it's worthless. For instance, when a client asks a portfolio manager why he's buying certain stocks, the manager's got to have something tangible to back it up. Saying"Our computer models are showing that this stock is underperforming" simply isn't good enough. __ Gib Bassett

C. Know Thy Customer
This is the bottom line: Customer fuel the business___any business. A deep understanding of the customer is critical in any marketplace. Who are the customers? Why will they buy? How will they evaluate the product? This sounds simple in practice, but very few business do it well. ___ Barbara Bund

D. Give the People What They Want
I can't stress this enough: People don't products or service. They buy solutions to painful problems. If your customer has a headache, sell aspirin, not vitamin. ___ John N. Doggett

E. Make Strong Connections
In today's quickly changing business environment, digital organizations require leaders who connect people to the company and to one another. In the accelerated and condensed digital environment, leaders who can build strong relationships with a variety of people are the ones who will thrive. ___ Celia Virginia Harquait

We all need to smile every once in a while!*8

Ever Wonder!
***Why is "abbreviated" such a long word?
***Why are they called apartment when they are all stuck together?
***Why don't sheep shrink when it rains?
***Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid is made with real lemons?
***Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker?
***If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal?
***Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour?
***If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress?
***Why is it that to stop Windows 98, you have to click on "Start"?

"How to Treat People" and "Effective Communication" are important. We need to push them through a spirit of kindness! The success of these skills in leading is a journey. "Believe that you will succeed. Believe it firmly, and you will then do what is necessary to bring success about," pointed out Dale Carnegie.*9

Nevada GOVERNOR Jim GIBBONS CREATES CLIMATE CHANGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
By Office of the Governor

Carson City Governor Jim Gibbons*1 today signed an executive order creating the Nevada Climate Change Advisory Committee and named its 13 members. The Committee is tasked with making recommendations to the Governor on reducing Nevadas greenhouse gas emissions.

With this announcement I am looking forward to Nevada joining the world in its quest to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We live in a global society and Nevada has to be a responsible member of this society. Furthermore, with its abundance of renewable energy resources, Nevada can leverage these resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by investing in its renewable energy industries, thus promoting economic growth and energy security while maintaining and enhancing the environment for future generations of Nevadans, said Governor Gibbons.*2

The governor named the following committee members:

Andrew Goodrich, director, Air Quality Management Division, Washoe County District Health Department (Chair)

Allen Biaggi, director, Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources

Dr. Lung-Wen Antony Chen, assistant research professor, Division of Atmospheric Science, Desert Research Institute

Kyle Davis, policy director, Nevada Conservation League

Russ Fields, president, Nevada Mining Association and chair of the Nevada Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Task Force

Jonathan Hutchings, director, Eureka County Department of Natural Resources

Alan Pinkerton, deputy director, Clark County Department of Air Quality & Environmental Management

Edgar Roberts, administrator, Motor Carrier Division, Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles

Steve Robinson, governmental consultant

Dr. John Sagebiel, environmental affairs manager, University of Nevada, Reno (endorsed by Nevada EcoNet)

Governor Gibbons continued, I have great confidence in this committee, which represents scientists, environmental and conservation groups, industry, state, county and rural communities. These are well-qualified individuals who will generate actionable and constructive recommendations.

Chairman Andrew Goodrich said, I am honored and humbled to serve with such knowledgeable and influential committee members. Together we will begin by documenting what Nevadans are currently doing to reduce greenhouse gases. Then we will identify the challenges our state will face in the future and provide options for a plan of action.

Hatice Gecol, Governor Gibbons Science and Energy Advisor, said, I am excited to see the formation of this committee and am looking forward to working with them in any way possible. Governor Gibbons has shown great leadership and care for our environment by taking a lead on this very important subject. *3 [April 10, 2007]

Imagination brings us with beauty, justice, happiness, and creativity!
By Jennifer Kung

To develop immaginative power,
we must specialize in our own fields
but be alert to new ideas from any source
and continually seize and set down our
inspirational flashes
when they come to us.

---Carl Holmes*1

Imagination is important for an individual and institution. It is the ability to perceive opportunity. Imagination may produce creativity. Creativity contributes profit and prosperity for an institution. Where imagination and innovation are encouraged, it floirish. Innovation is doing something different. Innovation comes from people and it requires insight.

We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones:

***** The most interesting people are the people with the most interesting pictures in their minds. ---Earl Nightingale
***** Imagination is more important than knowledge. ---Albert einstein
***** The human race is governed by its imagination. ---Napoleon
***** Inspiration and imagination go hand in hand. ---Annonymous
***** Every vital organization owes its birth and life to an exciting and daring idea. ---James B. Conant

It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

What is serendipity? It is discovering something totally unrelated to the problem you are trying to solve. Call it an accident, dumb luck, or fate--serendipity has given our world great products, new hope, and better ways of doing things.
Foe example, Columbus discovered America while searching for a route to India. It is said that the American Indians, finding no water for cooking, tapped a maple tree and made the first maple wyrup as the sap boiled down. Pioneers, traveling westward, stopped for water and found gold nuggets in a stream. These are all examples of serendipity.
However, the classic example of serendipity must go to George Ballas. As George Ballas drove his car through a car wash, ... Why not use a nylon cord, whirling at high speed to trim the grass and weeds around trees and the house? Bingo! the Weedeater was born!
... Finally, in 1971, Ballas invested his own money in the first thirty- pound Weedeaster. ...
Before long, Weedeater, Inc., grew into a multimillion-dollar international corporation. Yes, one idea can be worth a fortune. Weedeater, Inc., was born from a simple idea in a car wash. *2

Do you believe Chairman of Apple Computer John Scully said that, "Innovation has never come through bureaucracy and hierarchy. It's always come from individuals"?

"Imagination disposes of everything; it creates beauty, justice, and happiness, which is everything in the world," said Blaise Pascal.*3

Allow me to clear up some misconceptions about my budget and how it affects our states education systems. Despite reductions in enhancements, my budget raises the funding for both K-12 and higher education.

I am adding $81,000,000 to K-12 funding to replace lost county revenue. I am increasing per-pupil funding by 13 percent over the next two years. As Ive stated before, I am also protecting K-12 education, in addition to highway construction and child welfare, from reductions in enhancements.

Our states colleges and universities will also get record funding, despite the fact that student enrollment has fallen 5,000 students below predictions. My budget increases the percentage of formula funding available to higher education. In fact, it adds $153,000,000 in state fundingan increase of more than 13 percent.

Ive frequently said our state must live within its means. As recent revenue projections indicated our state would be receiving less income than had previously been predicted, I asked all state agencies and constitutional offices, including my own, to reduce their requests for new funding (noting, as I mentioned earlier, that K-12 education is exempt from this reduction). All state agencies except higher education have already made meaningful reductions.

I remain committed to the education of Nevadans, which is why I continue to push for budget increases at both K-12 and higher education levels. In a time of belt tightening, 13 percent increases over the next two years are significant. [April 7, 2007]

U. S. Senator Honorable Harry Reid and interesting facts about Nevada, U. S. A.
By CI*1 of WBTI

"(U. S.) Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada announced Wednesday he is working on a book about his life to be published in spring 2008," reported Tony Batt on March 15, 2007 at Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Reid said his advance and proceeds from book sales will go to a three-member foundation he established for his hometown of Searchlight." *2 Searchlight is a town in Nevada.

The following introduction about Senator Harry Reid was a concise one by the Editor of a flier for his statement at March 27, 2007 on this Section: 'Harry M. Reid is the Democratic Leader (now Majority Leader) in the U. S. Senate, a man who commands the respect of colleagues from both parties, and a powerful advocate for Nevadas middle-class families.
Reid is a tireless worker, and it isnt unusual for him to be the first Senator of either party to arrive at the Capitol in the morning and the last to go home at night.'

"Asian American communitiy had been united together to hold an event and dinner party successfully to honor U. S. Senator Harry Reid. More than 384 against the 250 planned individuals of government officials, business owners and executives, organizational leaders among others attended the party at the Asia Palace Chinese Restaurant on August 24, 2001. Kenote Speaker was U.S. Senator Harry Reid. Guests of Honor presented were: U. S. Senator John Ensign (by Sonia Joya), U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, U. S. Congressman Jim Gibbons (by Judith Ray), and Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa," wrote Tiffany Chang.*3

"U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley introduced Senator Harry Reid to the public with his successfully story to be the greatest political leader of Nevada arsing from the son of an ordinary family of mining worker. The first time as an honorable Master of Ceremony for Asian American community, Shelley' attractiveness and talent are really professional. She has been famous for her art of leading on social activities since her college life. 'On behalf of Washington Business and Technology Institute, I'm glad to be one of the Chairmen of this Event and Dinner Party for a Special Tribute to U.S. Senator Harry Reid. (Former) Governor Kenny Guinn of Nevada expressed that he can not overemphasize the significance and importance of bringing attention to all the attractions to Nevada at a time when it faces unprecedented competition for gaming customers. He believes that we are wise to expand our marketing efforts and focus on developing markets in places such as Asia. It is significant for him to point out that in addition to gaming, Nevada has phenomenal cultural, historic, and recreational resources that we must continue to promote. The Governor emphasizes that for our state's economy to thrive, all of the Silver State's tourism opportunities must be effectively marketed to both domestic and international visitors.*7

U. S. Senator John Ensign's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and taught his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to inspire and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to America to seek the American dream. Even though not all of them realize their American dream, eventually they could teach and help their children accomplish their contributions to our country.*8

On October 22, 2000, U.S. Senator Harry Reid received the "Outstanding Democrat of the Decade" 1990's Award from the Paradise Democratic Club of Las Vegas (PDCLV) at the Skyview Room of the Bally's Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas. In the Program, the National Anthem was sung by Rose McKinny James. The Keynote Speaker was Senator Harry Reid. The heightlight of the Event was the presentation of the Outstanding Democrat of the Decade Award to U. S. Senator Harry Reid by the President of PDCLV, John Ponticello.*9

Senator Reid graduated from Utah State University in 1961. He received Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University. In 1968, he was elected to Nevada State Assembly at the age of 28. After two years, he was elected as Nevada's youngest legislation in the state's history. In 1977, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. In 1983, he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. After having served two terms in the House, he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1980. On April 10, 1998, he was honored as Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). In December of 1998, after returning for his third term in the U.S. Senate, he was unanimously elected by his Democratic colleagues to serve as the Assistant Minority Leader.

"Senator Reid loves heartily this country and our people. His leadership is accentuated with practical knowledge and deligent effort through his intelligence. He has achieved many years accomplishments to improve the quality of life of all Nevadans and help people realize the American Dream, " said Dr. Tony T. Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), who was invited with his wife as guests to the Event by Congresswomen Shelley Berkley, County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates, and former Las Vegas City Mayor Jan Laverty Jones.

Senator Reid comes from Searchlight, Nevada, where in that rural mining town he learned the fundamental values of hard work and honesty that endure as his guiding principles. The Nevada's senior Senator was raised in a small cabin without indoor pluming and attended a two-room elementary school. His father was a hardrock miner with an 8th grade education, and his mother never finished high school, but the youngest of Harry and Inez Reid's four sons would go on to achieve the American dream. "Harry is now not just our senior Senator of Nevada in the Senate, he's one of the influential and important U. S. Senator for all our country in Washington, D. C.!" the Honorable U.S. Senator Richard Bryan pointed out during his short speech to the great awarding Event of the Club. "Senator Reid deserves special recognition for his continued leadership to the Democratic Party here in Nevada. His commitment to public service and distinguished record of fighting for the values we hold so dear has touched the lives of many in Nevada and across the country," wrote U.S. President Candidate and Vice President Al Gore. The distinguished accomplishments of Senator Reid has given he himself for us a successful model for people who wish to realize their American Dream.

The maturity of citizens society is the fundamental guarantee for the normal processing of a democratic community. In a citizens society, it depends highly on the team of public intellectuals to integrate people's opinions, to analyze rationally, and to point out wise persperctives and notice. A public intellectual plays an important and significant responsibility of mission to evaluate public activities, to reflect people's opinion, to lead citizens, and to predict crisis. Public opinion is therefore made through the effort of the public intellectuals by their wise investigation to the people's mind and willingness, and by their right understancing and analysis toward the facts. U.S. Americans W. Lippmann and J. Raston, German E. Noalle-Neumann are ideal representatives of such kind of persons as of the public intellectual. Community service is important to our people and society, moreover we wish individuals as our public intellectual may also encourage more volunteers, events, and projects to better the quality of life of all our residents and visitors of Nevadan through community participation.*10

"Asian Pacific American have made profound contributions to American life, including the arts, economy, education, science, technology, politics, and sport. This community was here to help build trascontinental railroad, to serve in the Civil War, and to develop the lastest Internet technology. I'm pleased to assure all you leaders of the community here today that I'll continue working to preserve and advance the heritage and value of Asian Americans. I'll put my effort to reach out and address issues of importance to the Asian American community, including the economy, education, safety, racial profiling and hate crime, and immigration, among others. I'd like also to show my appreciation of all your accomplishments and contributions to the American way of life and your outstanding participation in the political, business, and educational processes. It's my pleasure to accept the honor as Professor of Administrative Strategies of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of Washington Business and Technology Institute," said Harry Reid, U. S. Senator and Assistant Democratic Leader of the Senate at the Asian American Leaders Tea with United States Senator Harry Reid on May 31, 2003 at Korean Garden B. B. Q. House in Las Vegas.*11

Leadership is love!
To lead is to serve...to give...to achieve together
By Tiffany Chang

"Love that lasts involves a real and genuine concern for others as persons, for their values as they feel them, for their development and growth," said Evelyn Duvall.*1 In our real world, people are led by leaders. A successful leader is consistently follwed by others. People follow because they have a belief in the direction, intergrity, and competence of the one leading.

We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones:

***** Love is to the heart what the summer is to the farmer's year. It brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul. ---Billy Graham*2
***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor
***** To be a leader means willingness to risk--and willingness to love. Has the leader given you something from the heart? ---Hubert H. Humphrey
***** The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between the leader is a servant. ---Max Dupree; "Leadership Is an Art"
***** Love is the higest, purest, most precious of all spiritual things. It will draw out from men their magnificent potential. ---Zig Ziglar

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

I went on a search to become a leader.
I searched high and low. I spoke with authority. People listened. But alas, there was one who was wiser than I, and they follow that individual.
I sought to inspire confidence, but the crowd responded, "Why should I trust you?"
I postured, and I assumed the look of leadership with a countenance that flowed with confidence and pride. But many passed me by and never noticed my air of elegance.
I ran ahead of the others, pointed the way to new heights. I demonstrated that I knew the road to greatness. And then I looked back, and I was alone.
"What shall I do?" I queried. "I've tried hard and used all that I know." And I sat down and pondered long.
And then, I listened to the voices around me. And I heard what the group was trying to accomplish. I rolled up my sleeves and joined in the work.
As we worked, I asked, "Are we all together in what we want to do and how to get the job done?"
And we thought together, and we fought together, and we struggled towards our goal.
I found myself encouraging the fainthearted. I sought the ideas of those too shy to speak out. I taught those who had little skill. I praised those who worked hard. When our task was completed, one of the group turned to me and said, "This would not have been done but for your leadership."
At first, I said, "I didn't lead. I just worked with the rest." And then I understood, leadership is not a goal. It's a way to reaching a goal.
I lead best when I help others to go where we've decide to go. I lead best when I help others to use themselves creatively. I lead best when I forget about myself as leader and focus on my group...their needs and their goals.
To lead is to serve...to give...to achieve together.
---By Anonymous*3

Begin with praise and honest appreciation, we shall be more skillful in leading. Leadership is love!

Harmony is very importnat in a team work!
No symphony without harmony
By Jennifer Kung

Best wishes," pointed out Cheryl Moss, District Court Judge of Nevada.*1

Through a search of "Michael Douglas: Igniting the city through the cooperation and development with our expertise, integrity, and professionalism is on the way!" on the Yahoo.com or "Michael Douglas: Igniting the city wbti" on the Google.com, we can find the article.*2

Challenging your work force can add to productivity, but productivity needs also cooperation. In a team work, harmony is very importnat. Sometime, a good leader is the one who leads us to a goal with a group performance in harmony.

We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones:

***** It is amazing how much people can get done if they do not worry aout who gets the credit. ---Sandra Swinney
***** No man can be rich withot himself enriching others. ---Andrew Carnegie
***** I rate enthusiasm even above professional skill. ---Sir Edward Appleton
***** Enthusiam moves the world. ---J. Balfour
***** Ingenuity, plus courage, plus work, equals miracles. ---Bob Richards

It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

During a rehearsal at th Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, the great Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini offered a few words of constructive criticism to featureed soloist.
The Soloist, too proud to accept help, expressed her anger by exploding, "I am the star of this peroformance!" Toscanini responded calmly but with firm conviction. "Madam," he said, "in this performance there are no stars!"
All, from the greast to humblest, must work
together in harmony and devotion. We can
make no advances with only solo work.
Unless the solooists and the members of the
chorus are ready to work together in
harmony, there can be no symphony.
---Jackson Wilcox *3

Getting along in this world depends a lot on getting along with others. G. M. Verity told us that, "Cooperation is spelled with two letters -- WE.*4

By the act of love itself, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. Make service a part of our character and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others. Let our candles fuel a fire that will fan out an ever-lasting circles. With these circles together we can close our eyes and envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy.*5

Our great Asian American leader Elaine Chao in America
By Tiffany Chang

***** The grand essentials to happiness in this life are something to do, something to love and something to hope for. ---Joseph Addison

***** "To succeed in the 21st Century, our nation must be prepared to adapt to changes in our economyin how we work, where we work, and how we balance our professional and family lives." ---U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao

-------------------------------------------
"Getting people back to work is what this Department does. Giving people hope in their future is our job," said Secretary Elaine L. Chao of the U. S. Department of Labor.*1

"Incentives brings us with encouragement. Encouragement brings us with good work performance. In the 5:19 on Ecclesiastes of the Bible, it stated that 'When God gives any man (or woman) wealth and possessions, and enable him (or her) to enjoy them, to accept his (or her) lot and be happy in his (or her) work---this is a gift of God,'*2" said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).*3

At the age of 19, Elaine Chao was elected as a Scholar of the U. S. White House. U. S. Labor Secretary Chao was Chairperson of Federal Air Transportation and Vice President of Bank of American Main Office. In addition, she has contributed many years of community service and charity endeavor notably, as President of United Way, President of Peace Corps, and Senior Fellow of Heritage Foundation.*4

Secretary Chao received her B. A. degree in Economics with straight A's for all her four years at the famous Mount Holyoke College in New England. She obtained her M. B. A. degree from Harvard University in 1979. She also studied at M.I.T., Dartmouth College, and Columbia University.

At the time she was nominated by President Bush as the Secretary of Labor, she told her father that she does not intend to be an "Authoritative Official". She hoped that she could contribute to our society and nation.*5

Secretary Chao has received numerous awards for her professional accomplishments and community service. She is the recipient of 21 honorary doctoral degrees from colleges and universities around the world.

Secretary Chao is married to the Majority Whip of the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

"Elaine L. Chao is the nation's 24th Secretary of Labor, representing a new generation of American leadership. Since her confirmation by the United States Senate on January 29, 2001, she has been dedicated to carrying out the Department of Labor's mission of inspiring and protecting the hardworking people of America. She is respected as an effective and articulate champion of the nation's contemporary workforce, acting quickly to focus the Labor Department on the modern realities of workers' lives."*6

"When President George W. Bush nominated Elaine L. Chao, the first Asian-American woman appointed to a President's cabinet in U.S. history, he described her as an individual with strong executive talent, compassion, and commitment to helping people build better lives."

According to the U. S. Department of Labor, Secretary Elaine Chao's compassionate nature stems from her own background as an immigrant to this country at the age of eight. Her family's experience transitioning to a new country, supported by one another and the kindness of friends and neighbors, taught her that encouragement is the key to fostering independence, and that Americans are naturally compassionate people. This inspired her to dedicate most of her professional life to ensuring that people have the opportunity to pursue lives of dignity and financial independence.

As Director of the Peace Corps, Ms. Elaine Chao was one of the first Americans to personally embrace the people of the former communist bloc into the family of democratic nations, establishing Peace Corps programs in the Baltic nations of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. Later, as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of America, she restored public trust and confidence after the organization was tarnished by mismanagement and financial abuse, thus preserving the nation's largest institution of private charitable giving.

The experience Ms. Elaine Chao gained at the United Way helping communities address their local needs prepared her to mobilize the Department of Labor to promote pathways to economic freedom for individuals and families working to achieve the American Dream. She describes her vision for America's workforce as one in which everyone can participate where jobs and opportunities are available for those leaving welfare, job training is accessible for those left behind, disability never bars a qualified person from the workplace, and where parents have an easier time balancing the responsibilities of work and home.

"Secretary Chao's previous government career includes serving as the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, and Deputy Maritime Administrator in the U.S. Department of Transportation. She brings a wealth of business experience to the post, having worked as Vice President of Syndications at BankAmerica Capital Markets Group and a banker with Citicorp. Prior to her nomination as Secretary, she expanded her study of policy as a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based public policy research and educational institute. She was selected as a White House Fellow in 1983," states the Department.*7

Following the inspiration of the past many years of the accomplishment of Ms. Elaine Chao's contribution of humane spirit to our society, we have the persistense of Wou Shien's spirit for education here in America. If a coolie and hard woker like him could dedicate to eduction by offering all his income and life to build a school for children in his village, what should not for us to offer our efforts for our community?*8

To serve our community with wisdom and effort is the main creed of Washington Business and Technology Institute. It is our pleasure for community service to post the following introduction about Secretary Elaine Chao from the Office of U. S. Department of Labor:

Wonderful, U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley for Congress' January-March 2007 Newsletter!
By Shelley Berkley for Congress, and Tiffany Chang

SHELLEY PARTICIPATES IN THE MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. PARADE

Shelley once again participated in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in downtown Las Vegas, NV. Shelley made her way down the parade route waving to the thousands of Nevadans who lined the streets to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Dr. King. This was the 26th year that the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee has sponsored the parade.*1

SHELLEY SPEAKS TO THE emergeNEVADA 2007 CLASS

Shelley was the guest speaker for the class of candidates for emergeNevada, a political leadership training program for Democratic women in Nevada. Shelley shared her experiences with the women from her days as a member of the Nevada State Assembly, to a University Regent, and currently as a member of the United States House of Representative. Shelley serves on the Advisory Committee for emergeNevada. To find out more about the program you can visit www.emergenv.org.

ALWAYS WORKING FOR YOU

BERKLEY VOTES YES ON RESOLUTION OPPOSING "SURGE" IN IRAQ

Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV) voted in favor of a Democratic resolution that praises the efforts of American troops fighting in Iraq, but also condemned the President's plan for a so-called "surge" in Iraq. The non-binding resolution passed the U.S. House of Representatives on a vote of 246-182.

"This resolution says thank you to our troops, but it also clearly says no to a surge in Iraq. The President wants to send 20,000 more U.S. troops into a civil war with an open-ended mission and a bulls-eye on their back and I do not support his policy. President Bush has yet to put forth a strategy that outlines where we're going, how we're going to get there, how long it's going to take, how much it's going to cost and at what sacrifice to the American people," Berkley said. "The bottom line remains that I will not give this President a blank check for a surge when he has yet to provide us a clear understanding of why such an increase is needed or how it will help us to succeed." *2

NEVADA EARLY CAUCUS UPDATE

In 2006 the Democratic National Committee chose the great state of Nevada to be one of the new early caucus states that will help choose the next Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

As a member of the Nevada Caucus Commission Shelley will be working hard to make sure that all the Democratic presidential candidates know the issues and concerns that are important to the voters in Nevadas 1st Congressional District and also ensure that the Caucus is a success.

In an effort to keep you, the voter, up-to-date with the Caucus we will feature stories of presidential candidate visits and also have survey questions so we know what is on your mind.

Our first survey question is:

What issue would you like to see the presidential candidates address when visiting Nevada?

Send in your answers to shelley@sberkley.com and we will have the results in the next newsletter.

STAYING CONNECTED
NEIGHBOR 2 NEIGHBOR & FRIEND 2 FRIEND

Pengju Li was re-appointed Instructor of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute
By Cheryl Moss, Valerie Weber, and Tiffany Chnag*1

***** One of the most difficult things everyone has to learn is that for your entire life you must keep fighting and adjusting if you hope to survive. No matter who you are or what your position you must keep fighting for whatever it is you desire to achieve. ---George Allen

"During my first year as an Instructor, I've concentrated my effort in painting, teaching, and reseach for Culture Institution on an adjunct level. Through my endeavor in Las Vegas, I've been also encouraged by Peking art groups to extend my expert there for mutual cooperation. It's my honor and accomplishment that I can retain my positions in WBTI," said Artist Pengju Li in the morning on March 30, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pengju Li was re-appointed Instructor of the Culture Institution and Chairman of the Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).

The first appointment article about him by us was published by WBTI on March 28, 2006 as in the following*2:

"On March 23, 2006, through the recommendations of our faculty members, including District Court Judge Cheryl Moss and Nevada Assemblywoman Valerie Weber, Mr. Pengju Li was appointed as an Adjunct Instructor of the Culture Institution(CI) and Chairman of the Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI)." The announcement was made by Dr. John Wang, Spokesman for WBTI, on March 28, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nevada.*3

Upon learning of his distinguished appointment, Mr. Li expressed, "It is truly an honor to be appointed as an Instructor of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. As Chairman of the Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of WBTI, I intend to utilize my best efforts and wisdom to promote professionalism, enhance community relations, and to continue WBTI's mission in engaging in projects and doing great things for the Asian community."

Dr. Sue Fawn Chung currently heads the leadership of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Dr. Chung is now an Associate Professor of the Department of History, University of Nevada Las Vegas UNLV. She was formerly the Department of History's Chairperson. Dr. Chung has been an Fellow and Director of the Culture Institution of WBTI since September 17, 2001.

Pengju Li is a talented and gifted artist. He has the soul of a true Asian. Mr. Li graduated from the Peking Fine Arts University, and later he became an Instructor within the same school.

According to the website www.AsianSoulArt.com, Mr. Li's life and works is described as follows, "During his school years, Pengju had an opportunity to study art from all over the world. He studied all the Western artistic masters, and he was greatly influenced by famous artists such as Rembrandt and Jean-Aguste Ingres. At the same time, he
also studied 19th century Impressionism and 20th century Modern Art. Pengju was fascinated by the Impressionists' use of color and brushstroke, as well as the modern artists' use of point, line, and surface. His study of the past masters shaped and nourished his creativity."

"Over the last decade, he has refined his artistic style. His paintings exhibit a time of splendor and elegance with a contemporary twist. His unique style consists of dramatic figures full of bright colors, strong brushstrokes, and two-dimensional spaces. It is a beautiful combination of Western techniques with ancient oriental subjects."*4

In May 1994, Pengju Li's painting "Home" won the first prize in 1994 China Oil Paintings Exhibition.

"Mr. Li, Peng Ju is a young oil painting artist with great influence in China. His paintings has been exhibited extentensively in the world, such as in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao and Canada and has won many awards and prizes. Many of his paintings has been collected by artist organization and collectors in the world. In 1996 and 1997, Mr Li's paintings were selected to attend China Art Exposition, the biggest and the most influential art exhibition in China. And in 1996 China Art Exposition, his oil painting won "New Talent and New Piece Prize". And in 1997 China Art Exposition, his oil paintings were selected into a VCD and the VCD was released and distributed extensively via radio, television and newspaper," stated China Art Exposition Organization Committee in a letter of recommendation.

Pengju always says: "I like to use everyone's drawing strong points, and I never stop improving myself".

Pengju's biographical information in www.AsianSoulArt.com also states that his primary focus is oil painting. His paintings reflect an influence from both the East and the West due to the fact that he studied styles from Western Europe and the Asian Pacific Rim. His early works include a group of paintings that were based on subjects found in ancient Beijing China. These paintings were comprised of Quadrangle Gardens built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, old temples, old doors, old alleys, as well as, Beijing's people. Under his brushstrokes, those paintings came to life. They were exhibited in Hong Kong and China. After this exhibition, Pengju became well known and well a respected artist in China.

In may 1, 1996, Pengju Li was appointed as a Consultant of Art Center, China Artists Association. He was invited to be a judge of China International Famous Artists' Pieces Exhibition at the same time.

Pengju believes that to truly create a masterful painting, one must paint what one knows and feels. To truly create fine works of art, the approach must be a pure representation of the artist's ideas and emotions.*5

Justice Douglas' comments were announced at a Dinner Party at the Emperor's Garden Restaurant on February 4, 2005, in Las Vegas. The dinner event was held by the Committee to implement the ART EXHIBIT of Mr. QIN QUAN XIONG.*6

Dr. Tony Lei, President of the Washington Business and Technology Institute, remarked,
"In light of the hard work, dedication and successful achievements in the art world by Mr. Pengju Li, we are quite pleased to welcome him as a new faculty member of Culture Institution. His professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm in art is truly an asset to WBTI."

The beauty of the flier for the cover of Dr. Raymond Yin's book entitled "Entering the Realms of Gold" was impressive! It was designed and posted by WBTI website in the middle of May 2004. Protecting our Safety, Security and Future
By James A. Gibbons

Three weeks into my term as governor, in the State of the State address, I committed myself to a number of issues important to Nevadans. This coming week, three of those issues face their first legislative trials as three separate bills are heard in state Senate committees:

Senate Bill 542 improves the homestead exemption by raising the amount of equity protected from $350,000 to $550,000. We have all watched the prices of our homes rise drastically in recent years. This increase is long overdue to allow thousands of Nevadans whose home is valued over the current limit to protect one of their most valuable investments.

Senate Bill 471 will protect all Nevadans by imposing more stringent registration requirements on sex offenders. It will require out-of-state sex offenders to submit DNA samples when they register as sex offenders in Nevada. And it will require all sex offenders to register before they are released from Nevada prisons.

Senate Bill 469 protects the Millennium Scholarship. Currently, $7.6 million from the Abandoned Property Trust Fund, commonly known as the unclaimed property fund, is transferred to the Millennium Scholarship Trust Fund each year. SB 469 will increase that yearly transfer to $10.4 million, assuring that the Guinn Millennium Scholarship will be available to students for years to come.

These bills are important to my legislative agenda because they improve our safety, our security and our future. I am looking forward to working with the Legislature on these issues and others that will benefit you. [March 30, 2007]

Customer/client Service
We have to give most of the people what they want most of the time
By Jennifer Kung

In our modern business and institution, it is valuable to emphazise the importance of customer/client service. We consider our customer a part of our organization. Full commitment to service and product is paramount to reaching the ultimate in good performance.

We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

***** Every great business is built on friendship. ---J. C. Penney
***** Don't worry about profits, worry about service. ---Thomas Watson, Sr.
***** Quality in a service or product is not what youmput into it. It is what the client or customer gets out of it. ---Peter Drucker

It's our pleasure to post a short essay from "Speaker's Source Book II," by Glenn Van Ekeren:*2

[[[ Ray Kroc, founder of McDonald's, instituted service as a primary value. His management influence remains at the heart of McDonald's day-to-day operation. I ran across a checklist at McDonald's used for training front counter people. It spelled out McDonal's ten commandments for customer treatment.

1. The Customer is the most important person in our business.
2. The Customer is not dependent on us -- we dependent on the customer.
3. The Customer is not an interruption of our work; but the purpose of it.
4. The Customer does us an honor when calling on us. We are not doing the customer a favor by serving him/her.
5. The Customer is part of our business, not an outsider. The customer is our guest.
6. the Customer is not a cold statistic, but flesh and blood: a humanwith feelings and emotions like our own.
7. The Customer is not someone to augue with or match wits with.
8. The Customer is noe who brings us his/her wants. Our job is to fill them.
9. The Customer is deserving of the most courteous and attentive treatment we can provide.
10. The Customer has the right to expect an employee to present a neat, clean appearance. ]]]

Treat our customers/clients kindly, and they will always come back for more. It is significant for Charles "Tremendous" Jones to point out that, "Success is not a reward to be enjoyed, but a trust to be administered." *3 Our customer/client also educate us.

Picking up the pace
I invite you to check my website periodically
By Dr. Dina Titus

Dear Tony,

This session marches on and the pace is picking up. Two deadlines have passed and another is fast approaching. Monday, March 19, was the final day for legislators' bill introductions. Monday, March 26, was the last day for committee bills to be introduced and Friday, April 13, is the last day to pass bills out of committee. Money bills are exempt from these deadlines.

That means I'll be very busy during the next two weeks testifying on my bills, drafting amendments, fending off opponents, and trying to get my bills passed out of a house controlled by the other party.

I'm especially excited about the prospects for my renewable energy (SB 427 ), sex offender (SB 232), HPV Vaccine (SB 409), climate change (SB 422), credit card (SB 302), Blue Diamond Road (SB 128), and price gouging (SB 82) bills. Others include tax credits for day care (SB 211), property tax breaks for seniors (SB 179), and cracking down on meth producers (SB 112).

More information on these bills is available on the legislative website or at www.dinatitus.com.

Please help me by calling your state legislators, or posting your comments on these important pieces of legislation to express support for any or all of these measures.

I invite you to check my website periodically because we keep it updated with my testimony on these bills, news stories, and the blog which generates good discussion.

Call on me anytime.

Sincerely,

Dina Titus

A Unique Moment
The sales rank of our new book This Moment On Earth within just one day is amazing on Amazon.Com!
By Teresa Heinz Kerry*1

Dear Friend,

Yesterday morning when our new book This Moment On Earth went on sale in bookstores nationwide, it was ranked 3,398th on Amazon.Com.*2

No wonder the skeptics thought they were winning -- one reporter even thought she had a fair point when she asked John whether Americans really cared about the environment.

Well, it's only one day later -- and the book is now ranked #139 on Amazon.Com!

This huge first day of sales shows that Americans really care about the environment.

Please, come check it out -- write a review -- share your thoughts about environmental heroes you know -- and spread the word to your friends and neighbors.

[[[ "John Kerry and Teresa Heinz have written a book that is a profound challenge to all of us but contains, in the examples of the men and women who are fighting the great fight for a better future for our environment, the clear hope that if we can embrace their resourcefulness, determination and essential patriotism we will prevail." -- Former Vice President Al Gore ]]]

The book grew out of conversations that John and I had with Americans from coast to coast about the environment and the critical challenges we all face in protecting the earth for future generations.

The stories inspired and moved us. John and I share the hope that they will lead all of us to question the way things are and look for small but significant ways that each of us can make a positive contribution to this new environmental movement. We hope they spark a new conversation about ways that everyday Americans from all walks of life can have an impact on the environment around them.

And, since all of the proceeds of the book go to environmental causes, we hope the book makes a financial difference for some great environmental organizations, as well.

Come check it out -- write a review -- and let your friends know:*3

THE COMBAT RELATED SPECIAL COMPENSATION ACT OF 2007
By Harry M. Reid*1

Our nation's disabled veterans have been shortchanged. When these heroic service men and women come home, they should receive the benefits they have earned and rightfully deserve, without having to worry about dealing with unfair policies.*2

Under current policy, a service member with a combat-related disability who served 20 years and 1 day receives full earned retirement pay, but a member injured in combat and medically retired with a 100% disability rating at 19 years and 11 months must forfeit most or all military retirement pay. As a result, seriously injured veterans are forced to deduct the amount of any disability compensation they receive dollar for dollar from their retirement pay.

For more than a decade, I have led the fight to end this practice. Today, I am proud to announce the introduction of The Combat Related Special Compensation Act of 2007, which will allow disabled veterans to collect both their military retirement pay and disability compensation.

This legislation is essential for the more than 23,000 injured personnel who are returning from Afghanistan, Iraq, and other parts of the world. The widespread use of Improvised Explosive Devices in Afghanistan, and Iraq has created numerous amputees and increased the number of combat-related injured members who must be medically retired.

Some of these veterans have served 10 or 15 years, and had planned to keep serving until retirement. Now they cannot. That means they lose their retirement pay, and that is absolutely unconscionable.

I am proud of the legislation we introduced today because I believe we should do everything we can to give back to the men and women who have put their lives on the line to serve our country.*3

It's important to encourage innovative marketing for business!
By Tiffany Chang

Innovative marketing for business is important. Innovation is practical for a real need. It is not a random process. "When it works, it works because someone has identified a real need, and found a way to bring new ideas or new technologies to bear on that need," said Lewis W. Lehr.*1 An innovator's life is governed by "to create" lists. She or he is incessantly pursuing new possibilities and refinning existing ones. A really creatitive individual is the master rather than the slave of her or his imagination.

We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

***** Creativity is the natural extension of our enthusiasm. ---Earl Nightingale
***** Make a technical contribution, innovate, don't emulate. ---David Packard
***** Any business that does not learn how to innovate within the next few years will not be around by the year 2000. ---Peter F. Drucker
***** Innovation has to be linked to a market-driven mentality, tied in with customer needs. It can't be done in a vacuum, or as innovation for its own sake. ---Jim Beard
***** Ingenuity, plus courage, plus work, equals miracles. ---Bob Richards*2

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

"Business has only two functions," writes Peter Drucker, "marketing and innovation."
Consider these phrases posted on separate roadside signs: A peach looks good...with lots of fuzz... but man's no peach... and never was... Burma Shave! In 1925, Burma Shave knew they had a great product but were ineffective in marketing it. So, their roadside advertising was implemented. Today, the Burma Shave commercial are highly recognized as memorable trivia.
Here's another exemplary approach combining innovation and unique marketing. A small garage-based company took a single product, biodegradable soap, broke the customary marketing trends and amassed a fortune.
Using multi-level marketing, Amway left its competitors green with envy. First, they produced a quality product, developed unique packaging, attached distinctive labeling, and then used direct salespeople to sell their product. It is working to the tune of an estimated $1 billion in annual revenues.
Domino's Pizza shocked the industry with their original idea: "Guaranteed delivery in 30 minutes or $3.00 off." Quick service is now a minimum standard in the food industry.
Innovative marketing -- could it be the third function of business?*3

"The entrepreneur finds a need and fills it. The innovator anticipates or creates a need and fills it," pointed out Denis E. Waitley and Robert B. Tucker in the book entitled "Winning the Innovation Game." Innovation is one of the most important traits for the prosperity of American business.
