*****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be post in the morning on or before April 20, 2006Nevada Arts Council Awards Arts in Education Grants By Dr. Kenny C. Guinn*1 As a former educator, I know the importance of including art programs in our schools. When a child presents his first art project to his parents, views his first performance of The Nutcracker, or plays his first musical instrument, we witness the excitement in his eyes. The arts enrich students lives and improve their academic achievement. The Nevada Arts Council division of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs provides grants that fund noteworthy art programsprograms designed to support the goal of lifelong learning and expanding opportunities for quality arts education. The recipients of these Arts in Education program grants were recently announced, with ten schools and cultural organizations receiving awards. Some examples of these program grants include a student performance at the World Trade Center Monument in New York City by the students of Arbor View High School in Las Vegas, art instruction and artistic performances for the children of Bordewich / Bray Elementary School in Carson City by the Brewery Arts Center, and mini-concerts conducted by Reno Philharmonic Association musicians to students throughout Washoe County schools. The Council also awarded their Artists in Residence Grants and Professional Development Grants to worthy Nevada recipients. The Artists in Residence Grants enable schools and organizations to participate in workshops and classroom activities with professional artists in music, dance, theater, creative writing and other art forms. The Professional Development Grants fund training for educators seeking to enhance their skills in teaching the arts. A Fernley Elementary School teacher and a Nevada childrens book author received these coveted grant awards. The significance of art education has grown nationally and is included as a core academic subject under the No Child Left Behind Act. It is important that Nevadans continue to support and participate in the arts and encourage its inclusion in our schools. The arts are a significant part of a complete education, for both the important knowledge and skills they impart and the ways in which they help students to succeed in school and in life. ------------------------------------------- Reference *1. About Governor Kenny Guinn (a concise one by the Editor of this flier): Kenny Guinn, 69, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physical Education from Fresno State University and later obtained a doctorate in Education from Utah State University in Logan. In 1994, Guinn was recruited by the University of Nevada Board of Regents to serve as interim president of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Kenny spent his boyhood in the small, Central Valley town of Exeter, California where he met Dema, his wife of 49 years. Kenny Guinn believes in families. Dr. Kenny C. The announcement was made by Dr. John Wang, Spokesman for WBTI, on March 30, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nevada.*2 Upon learning of his distinguished appointment, Mr. Li expressed, "It is truly an honor to be appointed as an Instructor of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. As Chairman of the Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of WBTI, I intend to utilize my best efforts and wisdom to promote professionalism, enhance community relations, and to continue WBTI's mission in engaging in projects and doing great things for the Asian community. Dr. Sue Fawn Chung currently heads the leadership of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Dr. Chung is now an Associate Professor of the Department of History, University of Nevada Las Vegas UNLV. She was formerly the Department of History's Chairperson. Dr. Chung has been an Fellow and Director of the Culture Institution of WBTI since September 17, 2001. Pengju Li is a talented and gifted artist. He has the soul of a true Asian. Mr. Li graduated from the Peking Fine Arts University, and later he became an Instructor within the same school. According to the website www.AsianSoulArt.com, Mr. Li's life and works is described as follows, "During his school years, Pengju had an opportunity to study art from all over the world. He studied all the Western artistic masters, and he was greatly influenced by famous artists such as Rembrandt and Jean-Aguste Ingres. At the same time, he also studied 19th century Impressionism and 20th century Modern Art. Pengju was fascinated by the Impressionists' use of color and brushstroke, as well as the modern artists' use of point, line, and surface. His study of the past masters shaped and nourished his creativity." "Over the last decade, he has refined his artistic style. His paintings exhibit a time of splendor and elegance with a contemporary twist. His unique style consists of dramatic figures full of bright colors, strong brushstrokes, and two-dimensional spaces. It is a beautiful combination of Western techniques with ancient oriental subjects."*3 Pengju always says: "I like to use everyone's drawing strong points, and I never stop improving myself". Pengju's biographical information in www.AsianSoulArt.com also states that his primary focus is oil painting. His paintings reflect an influence from both the East and the West due to the fact that he studied styles from Western Europe and the Asian Pacific Rim. His early works include a group of paintings that were based on subjects found in ancient Beijing China. These paintings were comprised of Quadrangle Gardens built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, old temples, old doors, old alleys, as well as, Beijing's people. Under his brushstrokes, those paintings came to life. They were exhibited in Hong Kong and China. After this exhibition, Pengju became well known and well a respected artist in China. Pengju believes that to truly create a masterful painting, one must paint what one knows and feels. To truly create fine works of art, the approach must be a pure representation of the artist's ideas and emotions.*4 "It is my pleasure and honor to be named as an Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of WBTI, said Michael Douglas, Justic of Nevada Supreme Court. WBTI has an excellent reputation. Its Advisory Board and faculty is comprised of respected members and officials from throughout the Las Vegas community, including Honorable Kenny Guinn, Governor of Nevada, as its Chairman, Honorable Harry Reid, United States Senator, Honorable John Ensign, United States Senator, both serving as the Vice Chairmen, Honorable Jim Gibbons, United States Representative, Honorable Shelley Berkley, United States Representative, and Honorable Oscar Goodman, Mayor of Las Vegas, all of whom are the Executive Directors. Justice Douglas' comments were announced at a Dinner Party at the Emperor's Garden Restaurant on February 4, 2005, in Las Vegas. Develop your character, for it becomes your destiny."*2 After nearly three decades in police work, Robert A. Gronauer, better known by his friends as "Bobby G" has been our Las Vegas Township Constable since the January of 1999. His endeavor for Las Vegas as a constable is remarkable with his popularity, integrity, and professionalism.*3 The International Association of Chiefs of Police chose Gronauer as one of the top police officers in America for using innovative and progress techniques to solve problems in one of the most crime ridden areas of Las Vegas, "Gerson Park", one of those places where they said it couldn't be done. Dedication to his country and community brought "Bobby G" a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with a V for Valor in Vietnam, and the Marine Corps looked to Robert Gronauer to teach its young officers to be leaders. "Bobby G" has been presented with the following awards: "Humanitarian Award" - presented in March 2002 by the Seniors' United Organization, "Elected Official of the Year" - presented in April 2001 by the Asian Chamber of Commerce, "Constable of the Year 2001" - presented on April 7, 2002, by the National Constables' Association, the "Citizen of the Month Award-June 2002" - presented on June 5, 2002, by the Las Vegas City Council and "Proclamation Award" - presented on July 16, 2002, by the Clark County Board of Commissioners for serving his country and the Clark County community with dedication and pride. Some of Bobby's objectives are to help preserve and clearly define the significant role of the constable in the delivery of justice system in the United States, train, educate and upgrade the quality of performance of the constable, provide membership benefits which will contribute to the general welfare and quality of the constables, continue to carry court orders from the court offices and be available to assist the needs of the office of the county sheriff and local police departments.*4 "Bobby G" is a Vice Chairman of Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), "As the Vice Chairman of Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC), Bobby G. Gronauer was invited by the Pan Pacific and Asian American Forum (PPAAF) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) to attend this Party. With selected important people as a group from WBTI, it was leading by its President Dr. Tony Lei accompanied by his wife. The General Manager Nadia Sales of 'Nevada Examiner' came with her photography just on time. The presence of U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley hightlighted the event. Executive Director of PPAAF Bud Cranor appointed Brian Sandoval Honorary Chairman, David Roger and Bill Young Co-Chairs of CCDAPCC on January 2, 2003. It's my honor and challenge to endeavor to our community as a Secretary with the excellency of our Secretary General Cheryl Moss," said Agnas Chan, Consultant (now the President) of the United Business Source at the Campaign Party by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman on February 20, 2003.*5 -------------------------------- *1. In order to have our response to the creed of Seniors United --- for the people, it is a good thing to post some of the contend published by the Issue X as in the following: *1 Seniors United proudly presents our newly elected executive vice president Dr. Tony Lei Seniors United is greatly honored to have Dr. Tony Lei as our recently elected Executive Vice President. Dr. Tony is not a medical doctor. He is a very noted professor and President of Washington Business and Technology Institute. He has a background of achievement as long or longer than your arm. I am not going into any lengthy details about Dr. Tony's ability to reign as our Executive Vice President. The "Nevada Examiner" has done a fantastic job of telling us all about him and therefore I do not want to be repetitious. You can read all about the good doctor in the pages ahead. Dr. Lei points out : Knowledge, calls ultimately, for a life of service. We should continue to work for the prosperity of our society more diligently. Dr. Tony and his charming and lovely wife, Judy, have been friends of Seniors United for quite a few years. We love them both dearly because they are so very sincere and extremely devoted to the priniciples of Seniors United's creed. We are looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship. Congratulations to both of you. God Bless! Lillian H. Wallace, President Julian W. Wallace, CEO There was a photo shown Dr. Tony Lei and his wife Judy at the Center of the bottom on page 6 of the Issue for the announcement article written by Lillian H. Wallace, President, and Julian W. Wallace, CEO, of Seniors United. On page 7, it post the Event and Party of the Seniors United's Forum on March 8, 2000 by Lillian: Calenda of Events Wednesday, March 8, 2000 Time: 1:00 P.M. To 3:30 P.M. Place: West Flamingo Senior Center 6255 West Flamingo Road Las Vegas, Nevada 89103 (702) 455-7742 Program Director: Dr. Tony Lei Exective Vice President Introduing our Guest Speakers: City Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald, Ward 2 Clark County Assessor Mark Schofield Dianna Nangaro, R.N.C., A.P.N. Jean Peyton, President of BlindConnect, and her Seeing-Eye Dog We are very happy to present to you these very noted and impressive speakers. For further information, please call Dr. Tony Lei at: 255-9058, or Lillian at: 871-5528. Everyone is welcome. You need not be a member to attend any of our forums, nor do you have to be a senior. There is no charge for attending our forums. Refreshments will be served as alway at no charge. Cordially, Lillian H. Wallace Editor On page 18, it carried the article of "From the editor's desk': We had a most delightful forum on February 9, 2000, as always. We welcome...... We side-tracked our guest speakers for a few moments to introduce our newly elected Executive Vice President, Dr. Tony Lei, who really does not need any introduction at all. Tony and his delightful wife, Judy, have been members of S.U. for a few years. Both of them are on our executive board as advisory members. But today was a bit different. Tony was being installed as our Executive Vice President by Judge Mark Denton, a very dear friend to all of us. Judge Mark always tries to make our forums even though it may only be to say "Hello" and off he has to go. Dr. Tony Lei will be of the greatest force in getting the most important people to our doors. He knows about everyone of importance in Nevada and I am sure he will share all of them with us, particularly his Thai affiliations. Dr. Tony has had quite a few of his friends become our members and we thank them all. We are very grateful to the "Nevada Examiner," an American Asian newspaper that prints all the news about Seniors United. This is a great benefit to us because we become very well-known in the American Asian and Thai communities. We have Dr. Tony to thank for this coverage that reaches over 20,000 people. Dr. Lei sends his best regards to everyone and is looking forward to seeing all of you again as we all are. On page 11, Lillian wrote an article entiled "Recognitions Day - April 12, 2000". It reconized the following men and women: *****Doris Balducci Mae Kipnis Maria Manning Doris Cornwell Judy Lei Janice Miller Sharon Shaffer Judge Nancy Saitta Betsy Kolkoski Denise Brodsky *****Dr. Tony Lei Supreme Court Judge Myron Leavitt Constable Bobby "G" Richard Denison Judge Mark Denton Henry Kipnis Senator Ray Shaffer Mark Schofield Kate Grewe "This day is a very special one and we hope that all our members and friends will turn out to greet the many choices we have made to honor," wrote lillian. On page 22 through page 24 were its reproductions of the three feature articles with photos published by "Nevada Examiner".*2 The titles of the articles were: (1) Seniors United elected Dr. Tony Lei Executive Vice President. (2) Dr. William Thompson appointed Director of PAI by WBTI. (3) Sheri Vogel appointed PAI Associate Fellow by WBTI. Tiffany Chang was the Author of the three articles. On page 25, it was a letter written by Sheri Cane Vogel, Project Administrator of Senior Citizens Law Project, on Februar 7, 2000. Sheri wrote Dr. Tony Lei that, "I have just received your fax of the article wherein WBTI appointed me as PAI Associate Fellow. Please let me convey my extreme gratitude for such an honor. Serving the needs of our senior citizen population has been a passionate goal of mine and I look forward to working with the Public Administration Institution (PAI) in improving the lives of the senior citizens in our community.*3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- References *1. *****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be post in the morning on or before March 28, 2006Pengju Li has been appointed Instructor of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute By Cheryl Moss, Valerie Weber, and Tiffany Chnag*1 "Through the recommendations of our faculty members, including District Court Judge Cheryl Moss and Nevada Assemblywoman Valerie Weber, Mr. Pengju Li has been appointed as an Adjunct Instructor of the Culture Institution(CI) and Chairman of the Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) on March 23, 2006." The announcement was made by Dr. John Wang, Spokesman for WBTI, on March 28, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*2 "It's really my honor to be appointed as an Instructor of the Culture Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Also as the Chairman of Nevada Asian Art Research Committee of WBTI, I'll put my effort and wisdom to help realize its creed of professional righteousness, community service, and humane spirit," said Pengju Li at the time when he was informed of his appointment by WBTI. The Culture Instition of Washington Business and Technology Institute is under the leadership of Dr. Sue Fawn Chung. She is Former Chairperson and now Associate Professor of the Department of History, UNLV. Dr. Sue Fawn Chung is Fellow and Director of the Culture Institution of WBTI since September 17, 2001. Pengju Li is an artist with the bright Asian soul. He graduated from Peiking Fine Art University. He was an Instructor of the University. "During his school years, Pengju had an opportunity to study art from all over the world. He studied all the Western masters, and was greatly influenced by Rembrandt and Jean-Aguste Ingres. At the same time, he also studied 19th century impressionism and 20th Century Modern art. He was excited by the Impressionist's use of color and brushstroke, and the modern artist's use of point, line, and surface. His study of the past masters influenced and nourished his creativity. Over the last decade, he has refined his artistic style. His paintings exhibit a time of splendor and elegance with a contemporary twist. His unique style consists of dramatic figures full of bright colors, strong brushstrokes, and two-dimensional spaces. It is a beautiful combination of Western techniques with ancient oriental subjects," points out the AsianSoulArt.com.*3 In May 1994, Pengju Li's painting "Home" won the first prize in 1994 China Oil Paintings Exhibition. "Mr. Li, Peng Ju is a young oil painting artist with great influence in China. His paintings has been exhibited extentensively in the world, such as in Hong Kong, Singapore, Macao and Canada and has won many awards and prizes. Many of his paintings has been collected by artist organization and collectors in the world. In 1996 and 1997, Mr Li's paintings were selected to attend China Art Exposition, the biggest and the most influential art exhibition in China. And in 1996 China Art Exposition, his oil painting won "New Talent and New Piece Prize". And in 1997 China Art Exposition, his oil paintings were selected into a VCD and the VCD was released and distributed extensively via radio, television and newspaper," stated China Art Exposition Organization Committee in a letter of recommendation. Pengju always says: "I like to use everyone's drawing strong points and I never stop improving myself". His bio in the AsianSoulArt.com also states that: Pengju's primary focus is oil painting. His influence was obtained both from the East and the West due to the fact that he studied styles from Western Europe and the Asian Pacific Rim. His early works include a group of paintings that were based on subjects found in ancient Beijing China. These paintings were comprised of Quadrangle Gardens built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, old temples, old doors, old alleys, as well as, Beijing's people. Under his brushstrokes those paintings came to life. They were exhibited in Hong Kong and China. After this exhibition, Pengju became well known and well a respected artist in China. In may 1, 1996, Pengju Li was appointed as a Consultant of Art Center, China Artists Association. He was invited to be a judge of China International Famous Artists' Pieces Exhibition at the same time. Pengju believes that to truly create a masterful painting, one must paint what one knows and feels. To truly create fine works of art, the approach must be a pure representation of the artist's ideas and emotions.*4 "It's really my pleasure and honor to be named as an Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of WBTI. His professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm in art will be certainly an asset of WBTI," points out Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute. --------------------------------------------- References *1. The following information are kept for reference:Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2006 13:42:43 -0800 From: "Office of the Governor" [governor@GOV.STATE.NV.US] Subject: A Message from Governor Kenny C. Guinn - March 22, 2006 To: EALERTS@LISTSERV.STATE.NV.US Nevada Proud of Our Troops in the Middle East In a life full of diverse experiences, I have to tell you that my recent trip to the Middle East to visit our troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait is one of the greatest adventures in my life. I will never forget the opportunity to see firsthand our efforts to bring democracy to a people starving for freedom in that part of the world. It was truly an honor to meet our brave men and women serving in the military. The purpose of my trip, organized by the State Department and the Department of Defense, was to speak to our regular Army and National Guard troops about their experiences and to see for myself how things are going in the Middle East. Before leaving on the five-day trip, the three other governors I traveled with and I received a detailed briefing at the Pentagon and we met with Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. At each meeting, we were encouraged to ask any question and to seek whatever information we felt important while on the trip. As Commander-in-Chief of Nevadas National Guard, what a privilege to share with our troops from the Silver State the support and pride we have for their efforts to make the world a safer place. During my multi-nation tour, I met with soldiers from Boulder City, Carson City, Elko, Fernley, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas, as well as a group from Nellis Air Force Base Airmen who work with the Predator unmanned aerial vehicles. These exceptional people are doing a tremendous job serving the United States in the War on Terrorism. They are a great representation of the best America has to offer. One morning, our Humvee driver did a remarkable job of getting us to our destination through the streets of Baghdad. When we arrived, I told the young man what a great driver he was and that I appreciated his expertise. He turned to me and said, I have to take care of my Governor, sirIm from Lake Tahoe. In another instance, a Major addressed me by name and thanked me for coming. When I asked her how she knew my name, she said she had attended Kenny C. Guinn Junior High School in Las Vegas. There were many cherished moments like these with other soldiers that I will always treasure. During the trip, I asked our soldiers how they feel the war was going; if they are getting the support and equipment they need; and do they believe what they are doing is necessary? These soldiers responded so positively to the goal of their mission and to the importance of their task that I was moved. They repeatedly let me know that, although they would prefer to be home, safe in the arms of their family, they know the job they are performing is vital, and that America needs to complete its mission in Afghanistan and Iraq before our military can leave. Soldiers also told me how the people of these countries deeply appreciate what we are doing and that they want us to be there. Their words left no doubt in my mind about the magnitude of our task. I was also struck and comforted to know how well our troops are being taken care of while they serve our nation. The food was excellent, I saw workout equipment everywhere I visited and, most importantly, they are being provided the latest and best equipment available. Everything was very hi-tech, and the logistical coordination was very impressive. I also saw for myself how the Humvee vehicles, which have been so prone to attack from Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), are now being replaced or outfitted with armor that greatly enhances the safety of our soldiers. When we met in Afghanistan with President Hamid Karzai and several provincial governors, they made it clear to us that our troops are making a tremendous difference in their nation. Although some people question how long it is taking for Afghanistan and Iraq to become true democracies, these gentlemen compared how long after the conclusion of the American Revolution it took our nation to create our own Constitution and to cement our way of governance. They reminded us that although each nation still has far to go, they are now meeting in a legislative forum to discuss their future, instead of shooting at each other. I think one location I visited speaks volumes about our mission in the Middle East. In Afghanistan, we visited an elementary school for girls. The children were so happy to see us and gave us a very warm reception. I was informed later that these schools are extremely dangerous places. When I asked why, I was told that the Taliban and other terrorists are intent on destroying these schools because, in their minds, girls have no business being educated. In closing, I have to tell you that one of the great joys I have had as Governor was upon my return to Nevada, the honor of calling the families of the soldiers I met while on my trip. I promised each soldier that I would tell their parents or spouse about my conversations with each of these brave men and women. The satisfaction of fulfilling that commitment will remain with me forever. Nevadans are already proud of our troops. I want you to know that our soldiers are doing a fantastic job, that they believe in their mission, and that they fully appreciate the gravity of what is at stake. As Governor, I have never been more proud. 7777777777777777777 6666666666666666666666666666 888888888888888888888888888888888888888888888 ************************************************** | |

*****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be post in the morning on or before March 11, 2006Sarahs life is a story of firsts By Dr. Harry Reid and PAI of WBTI*1 Nevadas second statue in the U.S. Capitol's National Statuary Hall was dedicated March 9, 2005. The Sarah Winnemucca Statue will join Nevada's other statue of Patrick A. McCarran as the two statues contributed by the Silver State. The following speech is the one that I delivered at the dedication ceremony. It would be most inspired by our people here in Nevada for the story of Sarah Winnemucca: Sarah Winnemucca is Nevadas second statue in the Capitol. Our other statue, Senator McCarran, has been here for 45 years - which I believe marks the first time Sarah Winnemucca ever came in second to anyone. Sarahs life is a story of firsts.*2 She was the first female Native American to write a book. She set up Nevadas first school for Native American children. And she was one of the first individuals to navigate between her own culture and the settlers. As someone who showed so much courage in charting a new course, Sarahs statue fits in well among other first Americans in the Capitol, individuals like our first President George Washington.and the first woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, Jeanette Rankin. And with Sarahs statue, we experience another sort of first today. Sculptor Benjamin Victor becomes the youngest artist ever to complete a work for the National Statuary Hall Collection. None of us knew Sarah Winnemucca, but because of this 26 year-old man, we can get a glimpse of who she was as will thousands of visitors to our nations Capitol each year. And when they see this work, they will get a sense of Nevadas historyand our countrys history. One week ago, many of us gathered in this same spot to present Jackie Robinsons widow with the Congressional Gold Medal. We praised Jackie for breaking the color barrier not just in baseball, but in minds across the country. It is praise we can equally lavish on Sarah Winnemucca for the work she did on behalf of Native Americans over 125 years ago. Disillusioned by the treatment and relocation of the Paiute people, Sarah became an activist - - in addition to the many other roles she held, which included teacher, author and translator. Sarah traveled across the country, introducing Americans to her people and the struggles they faced through a series of lectures on the East Coast. She even visited Washington, DC to plead her case with President Hayes and the Secretary of the Interior only to be sent home with promises that would never be fulfilled. Having dealt with an indifferent U.S. government, it has been written that Sarah died believing she had not accomplished much unconvinced that her life had an impact. I think if she could see us today, she might change her mind. While our country and our culture remain far from perfect, we are further down the trail Sarah set out on a Century ago. And while she may have died believing she did not make a difference, her image in the Capitol is proof her story remains very much alive. It took 45 years for Nevada to get its second statue in the Capitol. When you consider what Sarah did in just 47 years of life, youve got to wonder what took so long. As this statue takes its permanent place, Im proud that Sarah is the newest face of Nevada in Washington, DC, and that as a state, we have helped ensure her legacy lives on for generations to come.*3 The following is a part of the article written for Senator Harry Reid being awarded "Outstanding Democrat of the Decade," by Tiffany Chang.*4 On October 22, 2000, U. S. Senator Harry Reid received the "Outstanding Democrat of the Decade" 1990's Award from the Paradise Democratic Club of Las Vegas (PDCLV) at the Skyview Room of the Bally's Casino and Hotel, Las Vegas. In the Program, the National Anthem was sung by Rose McKinny James. The Event was chaired by the President of PDCLV, John Ponticello. He introduced participants of all the elected officers, leaders of unions, persons campaigned for public service, among others. The Keynote Speaker was Senator Harry Reid. Special Speakers were former U. S. Senator Richard Bryan, U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, among others. Comments were offered by Rory Reid, Nevada State Democratic Party Chairman, and Danny Thompson, Secretary/Treasurer of Nevada State AFL-CIO. The heightlight of the Event was the presentation of the Outstanding Democrat of the Decade Award to U.S. Senator Harry Reid by the President of PDCLV, John Ponticello. U. S. Senator Reid graduated from Utah State University in 1961. He received Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University. On April 10, 1998, he was honored as Advisor and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).*5 PARADISE DEMOCRATIC CLUB OF LAS VEGAS' "OUTSTANDING DEMOCRAT OF THE YEAR RECEPTION" is HONORING U. *****This is a draft for final editing and modification. The complete article of a modified flier will be post in the morning on or before March 2, 2006Lynette McDonald was appointed Assistant Professor of GSBPA by WBTI By Bill Young, Jessie Walsh, and Tiffany Chang ***"Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him and to let him know that you trust him." --- Booker T. Washington The Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) was established early in 2003. Drs. E. Lee Bernick and G. Keong Leong were appointed as Deans of the School by WBTI on March 11, 2003. "The mission of this School will emphasize the humanitarian orientation of public administration adn social responsibility of business management . Throuugh academic entrepreneurship, we may expect the endeavor of this school for the community service based on humane spirit, led by Chairperson Elaine Chao of WBTI," said Dr. Dina Titus, Professor of Administrative Strategies in GSBPA. Dina is a Senator of Nevada Senate and Adjunct Professor of Political Science of UNLV.*1 "Through the recommendation by our faculty members including District Judge Jessie Walsh and Clak County Sheriff Bill Young, Ms. Lynette Boggs McDonald has been appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) on October 21, 2004," announced Dr. John Wang, Spokesman of WBTI, on Friday, October 22, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada. "It's my great pleasure to accept the task, responsibility, and practice," said Lynette McDonald at the time when she was informed by President of WBTI Dr. Tony Lei for the appointment. "With the capacity on adjunct basis, it's good for me to develop my entrepreneurial spirit by utilizing both my advanced education in public adminstration and practical experience in managerial responsibilities at UNLV." A self-described "Army brat," Boggs McDonald spent her childhood on American Army bases in Germany and Italy, and has lived in Las Vegas for the last 13 years. She is a business graduate of the University of Notre Dame, attended the University of Oregon Graduate School of Journalism and received a Master's of Public Administration degree from UNLV.*2 From 1994 to 1997 Lynette served as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Las Vegas. She was the first woman to lead a city council ward in the history of the city of Las Vegas, receiving 70 percent of the vote in Ward 2 during the 2001 election. In April of 2004 she was appointed by Governor Guinn to serve as County Commissioner in District F. Having served over the past decade in local government makes her uniquely prepared to deal with the challenges facing her district and our community. As our County Commissioner, Lynette is working with community stakeholders to update neighborhood master plans so that responsible and predictable land-use decisions can be made. She negotiated a land exchange with the BLM and a local developer to preserve Red Rock Canyon. When a developer failed to keep his commitment to donate land for a new school, she blocked his building permits until he made good on that promise. Lynette will continue fighting to ensure developers live up to their agreements with Clark County residents, especially on the issue of identifying sites for schools, fire stations, police substations and parks.*3 Clark County Commissioner Lynette Boggs McDonald was appointed by President Bush to serve on a national commission related to international study programs. Boggs McDonald, a Republican appointed to the County Commission in March, said she is "honored and humbled" to be one of four people chosen by Bush for the Commission on the Abraham Lincoln Study Abroad Fellowship Program.*4 The commission will launch the new program, which is designed to expose Americans to international cultures, governments and economic systems, and which will probably work with the U.S. State Department. "To encourage the cooperation and development of English and Chinese speaking countries with Nevada has been particularly important to our country at this critical period of time. The establishment of GSBPA will launch our effort that emphasizes the value of humane and administrative orientation. The creed of this School is both on the spirit of educational excellence and academic entrepreneurship. We're forecasting the smoth and efficient growth of this School together with the growth of the tourism industry and the economy of Nevada after the 911 and SARS," Dr. E. Lee Bernick, Dean of GSBPA, who is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Public Administration of UNLV, said at the Summer 2003 Symposium and Dinner Party. It was held by WBTI at the Zax Restaurant of Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino on May 19, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*5 "Dr. Tony Lei, my long time good friend, is the President of Washington Business and Technology Institute and Senior Advisor of U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. Dr. Tony Lei, an outstanding resident of Clark County for more than 12 years, has given freely of his time, energy, knowledge, and talents, working on projects and events that contribute to the quality of life in Nevada and has dedicated himself to public service and humane spirit to not only the Asian Community but to all citizens in Clark County and Nevada. It is an honor and privilege of the Board of County Commissioners to recognize those extraordinary individuals, groups, or programs which enrich the lives of many in our community. On behalf of our Commission, I'm presnting him with our Proclamation on this occasion, April 24, 2005, in celebration and recognition of his distinguished professionalism and outstanding accomplishments. We do hereby recognize and honor Dr. Tony T. Lei, Ed. D. and urge all citizens to join us wishing him a successful and bright future," announced Commissioner Lynette McDonald soon after her significant kenote speech at an Asian American Event and Dinner Party. The Event and Dinner Party was held by Asian Ameirican Republic Coaliton of Nevada - CLark County on April 24, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*6 --------------------------------------------- References *1.
