Harry Reid of Nevada said Wednesday that demands of his new job as Senate majority leader prompted him to give up other posts that were helpful to promote Nevada interests. But, the Senate's top Democrat said his new responsibilities will not keep him from obtaining federal money for the state or from continuing his vigilance against the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. "The question is, can I do good things for the state and the answer is yes," Reid said. "We will do better than we have ever done." In an effort to show he will not forget his constituents as he moves into an expanded role as Senate manager and national party spokesman, Reid met with Nevada reporters a day after he was elected Senate majority leader. Republicans engineered the defeat of Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota in 2004 in part by accusing him of losing touch with his state. Reid earlier this year beefed up his Nevada staff, seeking to avoid being defined by critics in the same way. "I want everyone to understand I am the senator from Nevada," Reid said Wednesday. At the meeting, Reid also shrugged off a report that convicted Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff was implicating him in an ongoing corruption investigation. ABC News reported on its Web site that Abramoff has told prosecutors that Reid agreed to help him on Indian gaming matters, and that $30,000 in campaign contributions from his clients "were no accident and were in fact requested by Reid." The network attributed the report to an unnamed source. "As I understand, he (Abramoff) is on his way to jail," Reid said. "This is an old story. Some anonymous source is what this story is about." Reid's office further issued a written response stating that information in the report had been discredited previously and that Reid's activities on Indian gaming have been legal and proper. Reid said neither he nor members of his staff have been contacted by authorities investigating Abramoff, who has pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy to bribe public officials. On his promotion to majority leader, Reid moved to explain why he dropped off the Senate Appropriations Committee this week. Reid had been on the committee since 1986. While there has been growing criticism of earmarked "pork barrel" spending, Reid without apology utilized the seat to steer millions of dollars in earmarked spending to the state while arranging budget cuts for Yucca Mountain. Previously, Reid gave up seats on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and the Aging Committee as he climbed Senate leadership. "It is not fair to the institution or the country or certainly the state of Nevada for me to be on things that I don't have time to do a decent job on," Reid said. But being majority leader "allows me sway," Reid said. "I control what we take up on the floor." "I have a full-time person working on the environment committee and I have plenty of coverage on the appropriations committee," he said.*2 -------------------------------------------- References *1. The land at Interstate 215 and Town Center Drive was acquired from The Howard Hughes Corp. for $5.8 million. Plans for the business park call for a retail component, a bank, veterinarian's office and 60,000 square feet of office pads for sale, Fine said Thursday. "We found a little niche here," he said. "That area is way underserved at present for retail and office. We think having the ability to be in development as early as we are is a good opportunity." Fine also developed Hills Center Business Park in Summerlin, which is completely sold out, and has five lots remaining out of 24 at Hills Center North Business Park. He said the success of those projects underscores the demand by small and midsize professional office users to own their buildings. The Town Center Drive development gives business owners the opportunity to purchase pads for buildings ranging from 3,000 to 20,000 square feet with convenient access to the beltway. "We think the 215 is going to be the most important new freeway," Fine said. "There's a lot of action along the 215. Being in Summerlin on Town Center Drive gives us a premium location." The center is ideally suited for financial, legal, insurance, real estate, dental and medical office users, he said. The Nevada Cancer Institute is under construction nearby. Plans and approval for the $25 million project will probably take about six months, with construction expected to begin in the spring. James Wilmot, project manager for Mark L. Fine & Associates, said Summerlin's residential growth provides a foundation for office and retail development in the area. "From July 2003 through March 2004, nearly 200 jobs a month were created in Summerlin," he said. "The business community in Summerlin is as thriving and active as the residential community." Fine also owns 4 1/2 acres at Bonneville Avenue and Grand Central Parkway and is evaluating several development concepts, including office, residential and furniture uses to augment the downtown World Furniture Mart.*3 --------------------------- References *1. But Reid quickly dismisses any suggestion that the Bush presidency is over. Democrats gained control of the House and Senate in Tuesday's election, propelling Reid to the top position of Senate leadership. But Reid said in an interview last week that he knows Democrats can accomplish very little without Bush. "We can pass all the bills ... but we have to process something he'll sign," Reid said. "I'm no fool." So far, Reid and Bush are like a divorced couple who started dating again. Bush called Reid to offer congratulations on Wednesday and Thursday and they had a meeting Friday at the White House. Afterward, Bush was optimistic. "Senator Reid and I are both from the West. I'm from West Texas; he's from Nevada," Bush said. "And we tend to speak the same language, pretty plain-spoken people, which should bode well for our relationship." But Reid recalls a similar courtship after the 2004 election when he first became the Senate Democratic leader. "When he called me Wednesday morning, he said 'I want to work with you,'" Reid said. "I said 'Mr. President, that's what you said two years ago, and we haven't accomplished anything.'" Perhaps even more important than his relationship with Bush will be Reid's interaction with new Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. McConnell is expected to be a far more formidable Republican leader than outgoing Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., who was outmaneuvered time and again by the more experienced Reid. McConnell has been in the Senate two more years than Reid and is usually even more fiercely partisan than the new majority leader. Former Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota, who preceded Reid as Democratic leader, said the Nevadan may feel himself pulled in different directions when he begins setting the Senate agenda in January. "He could come under some pressure to play to the base and be hard-line (against Republicans)," Daschle said. "But he also will be under great pressure to govern, and prove that, with a new majority, he can bring results. "Knowing Reid as I do, I think he is going to be results oriented and want to move his agenda forward," said Daschle, who still talks to Reid on a weekly basis. Although Reid is reaching out to Republicans with his bipartisan pitch, he has not changed his basic philosophy about how the Senate should function. "The Senate is not a place for love fests. The Senate isn't a place that's warm and cuddly," Reid said. "The Senate is set up for combat. And I believe that if those people who are in combat recognize that they need to work together so that they both don't get killed, then we can accomplish something." Frank Fahrenkopf, president of the American Gaming Association and a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, said Reid's ascension to majority leader will yield significant dividends for Nevada. "We have a grand total of five members in Congress," said Fahrenkopf, who is from Reno. "To have one of those five individuals set the agenda for the United States Senate means a great deal. We have had a history of great senators from Nevada, but none have achieved what Harry Reid has achieved." In his new position, Reid said he will be able to bring more federal dollars home to Nevada. As for a proposed nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain, 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Reid said he will be able to do more to "slow this monster down." At the end of 2005, Reid looked back on his first year as Democratic leader with a certain weariness. He openly admitted he underestimated how difficult the job is. But this year, Reid seemed more sure of himself. As usual, he had his share of setbacks. In January, he apologized for violating Senate decorum by issuing a news release attacking 33 Republicans, including Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., for alleged ethical lapses. Then last month, Reid was criticized for improperly reporting a $1.1 million land deal in Southern Nevada and using campaign funds to pay Christmas bonuses to workers at his Washington, D.C., condominium. Asked if he is concerned that the cumulative effect of these disclosures may undermine his leadership role in the Democratic caucus, Reid shook his head and said no. But he acknowledged he had one major regret in the last year: accepting free ringside tickets to Las Vegas boxing matches between 2003 and 2005. "I got the tickets totally legal, approved by the ethics committee and everything," Reid said. "But it just didn't look right, me sitting there with a free ticket even though it was legal. I should have understood the difference between something that's legal and ethical and something that just doesn't look right." During the interview, Reid, who will turn 67 next month, slumped in his chair, evidently exhausted by the campaign and the exciting events after the election. But his attitude was far more upbeat than it was a year ago. "This is totally different," Reid said. "If you love government, this job I have (as majority leader) is gravy and mashed potatoes. It's a wonderful opportunity to have an effect on government. This is what I've worked for." Although he stopped short of saying he will seek a fifth term in 2010 when he turns 71, Reid said if he had to make the decision today, he would run again. Having lost a Senate race in 1974 to former Sen. Paul Laxalt, R-Nev., by 514 votes and winning another by 428 votes over Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., in 1998, Reid said he does not think his position as majority leader will make him unbeatable in Nevada. "I gave most of my money to the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee), and I don't have much left," Reid said. "But I'll get cranked up and in the next couple of years, I'll be putting money in the bank." *2 ***** Senator Harry Reid is also a Professor of Administrative Strategies of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of Washington Business and Technology Institute (honored at the Adjunct level).*3 -------------------------------------------- References *1. Shelley Berkley: "This election is the most important election in my lifetime, for this nation" By ERIN NEFF and GSBPA of WBTI*1 [[[Good news! Ms. Shelley Bekley won again the Congress election on November 7, 2006.]]] "Thank you for participating with me in celebrating my 2004 Re-Election Campaign Kickoff. I greatly appreciate your support and look forward to continuing my service in Congress and shall endeavor to serve in the manner that merits your confidence in me. Sincerely," wrote U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley to Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) and his wife, on August 4, 2004.*2 "Dear Dr. Tony, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley has had a busy summer traveling from Washington, D.C. to Las Vegas, to Boston, and back home again. Special thanks to everyone who joined Shelley at her campaign kick-off. With over 500 attendees, it was quite a party!" wrote U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley's Office of Berkley for Congress to Dr. Tony Lei on August 4, 2004.*3 "Tony!" welcomed by Shelley Berkly heartily. Leading the largest Asian American group to the kick-off party, Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), hugged with Shelley Berkley pleasantly by wishing her a good luck. The Party attracted many hundred of her relatives and friends to a Club in North Las Vegas on Thurday, July 1, 2004.*4 Dina Titus introduced and spoke for Shelley Berkley to all the audience including lots of candidates in the election on 2004 for public service. Dina is a Senator and the Minority Leader of Nevada Senate. It is our pleasure to post the following concise report concerned the Party by the largest newspaper of Nevada ---Las Vegas Review-Journal*5: Monday, July 05, 2004 Copyright (C) Las Vegas Review-Journal (This is the concise one.) POLITICAL NOTEBOOK: Berkley basks in kickoff to first easy campaign Congresswoman throws party in North Las Vegas By ERIN NEFF REVIEW-JOURNAL On Thursday evening at the Cannery, Berkley showed just how different this year will be thanks to the GOP, which didn't come up with a standard bearer, or even a minor opponent.*6 With no need for aggressive fund raising or advertising, Berkley could throw a party. And her campaign kickoff event appeared at times like a wedding, at times a rally and most of all like a good-old summer barbecue in a big ethnic neighborhood back East, complete with booze, huge burgers and the band Doo-Wop.com, playing a steady dose of '50s and '60s music. The bride at this affair was thrilled to take the stage without any notable objections from across the aisle. She faces two grass-roots speed bumps in the Democratic primary before a general election bid against the winner of a three-person GOP primary. Thursday was her coming out party, and she made it clear to the candidates she allowed microphone time, who was being feted. ... Berkley, dressed in a shiny red pantsuit with matching shoes, told the crowd of hundreds they could "party all night." "I wanted to do something different this year," she said from the stage of the North Las Vegas casino's The Club, which had opened its back door to the festivities outdoors. The rally part came in her very brief stump speech, in which she said: "This election is the most important election in my lifetime, for this nation.*7 ... Photo by John Locher.]]] [[[Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dina Titus works her way through the crowd after giving her concession speech Tuesday night at the Democratic election night gathering at Caesars Palace. Photo by K.M. Cannon.]]] Republican Jim Gibbons survived last-minute scandal and a tough year for Republicans to keep the Nevada governorship in Republican hands for four more years after a close battle.*1 Gibbons, a Reno congressman, was beating Democrat Dina Titus, a state senator, by more than 20,000 votes with most of the vote counted early today. Gibbons had 48 percent of the vote to Titus' 44 percent. "The voters of Nevada have spoken, and I'm so humbled and so honored to be chosen as your next governor," Gibbons, 61, told a cheering crowd of Republicans at Red Rock Resort around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. "There were times when it (the campaign) reminded me of 'Groundhog Day,' when I thought it would never end." It was a tense night for Gibbons and Titus, with the first round of statewide returns showing Titus ahead by 2,000 votes. But Gibbons soon took a 300-vote lead that continued to grow as the evening wore on and rural counties' vote totals came in. On his way to address his supporters, Gibbons told the Review-Journal he felt "magnificent" about his victory. "It feels just wonderful," he said. The governor-elect said the controversies of the past weeks would not affect his ability to govern. "Now that the truth is out, nothing we feel is going to divide us as we move forward," Gibbons said. Just three weeks before Election Day, Gibbons was hit with an accusation that he assaulted a Las Vegas woman in a parking garage after having drinks with her and others in a local bar-restaurant. Police are still investigating the allegations, but Gibbons has declared vindication after the release of surveillance tapes last week didn't show him in the parking garage in question. Gibbons also faced a newly surfaced charge that he hired an illegal immigrant household worker in the 1980s and a national news story that implied he took lavish gifts from a friend and campaign contributor in exchange for securing federal contracts for the friend's company. Gibbons will succeed Republican Gov. Kenny Guinn, who is leaving office after the constitutionally mandated limit of two terms. Gibbons called Titus, 56, "an admirable opponent." "I have tremendous respect for Dina, and I look forward to working together, to working together with her team," he said. But Titus, who said she would stay on as state Senate minority leader, indicated she would continue to consider Gibbons the enemy. Titus predicted Gibbons will not have an easy tenure as governor. "We disagree on basic policies, and neither one of us is going to change our minds for the other," Titus said at a Democratic Party gathering at Caesars Palace. The unresolved scandals will continue to hang over Gibbons, Titus said. "Tomorrow we rest. Then, the next day, we start to take the state back in 2008." She said Democrats created a groundswell on Tuesday that they would continue to build on. "We don't want to lose that momentum," she said. Titus won Clark County by more than 23,000 votes, but Gibbons won every other county by at least 10 percentage points and some by as many as 50 percentage points. Titus said she knew that rural counties would make or break her campaign. "We worked hard in the rural counties, but it didn't make a bit of difference," said Titus, who spent most of Election Day in Reno and Sparks. The outcome was, in large part, a reflection of partisan voting, she said. University of Nevada, Las Vegas, political scientist David Damore agreed with Titus that her strategy of aggressively campaigning in Democrat-unfriendly rural areas didn't work. Damore said Gibbons was favored from the beginning to win by 10 percentage points or more, and it was only the last-minute scandals that allowed Titus to draw close. "Incidents pushed it into the margin of error (in late polls), but he pulled it out," Damore said of Gibbons. "Dina put in the time (in the rural areas), but it didn't pay off. All those Republicans came home at the end." With perceptions of Titus largely negative, partly a result of Gibbons' ads painting her as too liberal and too biased toward Las Vegas, she couldn't create a positive contrast between herself and her opponent when negative news about him started surfacing, Damore said. The result may have been that voters didn't want to pick either one, he said, noting that more than 20,000 voters picked "none of these candidates." In addition, more than 6,000, or 1 percent, picked the Green Party candidate, Craig O. Bergland, who had thrown his support behind Titus, and nearly 20,000, or 3 percent, chose the Independent American Party candidate, Christopher H. Hansen. However, "none of these candidates" was an even more popular option in other races where it was available, including statewide constitutional offices and state Supreme Court races. Damore said enough people voted for minor-party candidates or no candidate, presumably as a protest, to make a statement about Gibbons and Titus. "What does that tell you about the system, the race, the candidates?" he said. Despite an election widely described as the most contentious, ugly and negative in history, Gibbons said he hoped to put it behind him and lead from the center. Gibbons said he wanted to unite Democrats and Republicans during his next four years in office. "It is essential that we develop a new spirit, a new framework of optimism and determination for the citizens of this state," he said. "Only in Nevada can you have the American dream. I pledge to you that we will continue that American dream for everyone that is here and everyone that is coming here." *2 Review-Journal writers Lisa Kim Bach and Alan Maimon contributed to this report. -------------------------------------------- References *1. Gibbons My Fellow Nevadans: Well, we are finally here. Election Day has come and your decision today will determine the future direction of our wonderful state. I want to begin by thanking each of you for standing by my side throughout this campaign. Your generosity, the commitment of our volunteer Gibbons Ground Crew, and the thousands of people who invested in my campaign have all made a tremendous difference. This past week alone, we have been making phone calls, knocking on doors and asking our families, friends and neighbors to cast ballots in this critically important election. Today, we have a few hours remaining to contact those we may have passed up and ask that they make sure to vote in this election. Polls will close across our state this evening and the votes will be counted. From tonight forward, I will always remember your commitment to me, my family and to the future of Nevada. We are in a very good position to win but only if we work hard all the way to the end. Make that last phone call, drive a friend or family member to the polls, and make sure that when 7 pm rolls around, we can all say we gave everything to this campaign. Dawn and I truly appreciate your support and your shared love of our great state. Let抯 go out there one last day and seal this victory so we can celebrate together. Personal Regards, Jim Gibbons --------------------------- About the author Born and raised in Sparks, Nevada, United States Congressman Jim Gibbons was first elected to represent Nevada's 2nd District in the House of Representatives in 1996. By Nancy Saitta Thank you for your support in my race for the Nevada Supreme Court, Seat G. But, as you know, every single vote will be needed if we are to be successful on Tuesday.*1 I am asking that you send a note/email or make a call to all of your Nevada friends telling them of your support for me in this race. If you then can ask them to do the same, this 'get out the vote' effort can truly make all the difference in my race. Further, if you could arrange for an office (Las Vegas) wide email asking that everyone 'get out the vote' and/or do an email or call their family and friends, it would certainly add up and hopefully, put us over the top on Tuesday. It is a commonly held belief that the personal 'ask' for a vote can turn a race even more than media and mail pieces. I am asking for your help... We need every vote. If you can't send to your email list of friends and family, and would be comfortable sending me your list, I will gladly send the VOTE SAITTA request. I look forward to serving the state of Nevada...with your help and the help of your friends and family, I know we can be successful! Thank you again for your faith in my candidacy...*2 Warm regards, Nancy Saitta ------------------------------------------- References *1. Brady, Elena. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before November 8, 2006.Tong Liu and Gerry Liu: cross-cultural and community service are our distinctions By Michael Douglas, Cheryl Moss, Valerie Weber, and Tiffany Chang*1 ***** "Those who trust us, educate us." --- George Eliot ***** No man can be rich without himself enriching others. ---Andrew Carnegie ***** The ultimate responsibility of a leader is to facilitate other people's development as well as his own. ---Fred Pryor The following is the interview by Tiffany Chang to Tong Liu, Senior Pastor of River of Life Christian Church (ROLCC) and Gerry Liu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ROLCC, from Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI): Q: By comparing to other Chinese Churches, what you think are the uniqueness of River of Life Christian Church? Tong: One of the significant unique characters is our emphasis on cross-cultural. We have Chinese services and English service. We serve people from all nations. An innovation of ours is the endeavor to strengthen the united efforts of all the local churches. We're interested to do the righteous work jointly with many other churches locally. Why we have such a mission? It is because we sincerely love our God and people. Gerry: In the first place, we have the nice plan from our God. We expect to put our efforts to make River of Life Christian Church a mega church. How? I think the most important thing is to have our Church fueled with both human and financial resources. In the second place, we endeavored to build our services as a bridge of the mutual cooperation and development between English and Chinese cultures. In the third place, we're launching our mission of integrity with the mainstream through local governments. Q. What are your current plans for River of Life Christian Church? Tong: Our main mission for our current plans will be the endeavor of community service. The significance of community service to our people, land, and country has been recognized by many leaders in each and every field of professionalism all around the United States . It's our pleasure to put community service as a priority in our current mission. To function it effectively, we have our cell groups as the frontiers. The whole thing is initiated by our love for God. Gerry: The 2006 theme of this Church is "Arise & shine - Prepare the way of the Lord". Our next year's theme will be "Lighting of the Country". In the coming ten years, we'll endeavor to build love all around our neighborhoods. We have 105 cell groups and 14 zones. The grass roots of our people are numerous and sincere. Through the cooperation with the local governments, we're expecting to extend our love to the whole country. Q. Can you tell us a little about the development of your educational leadership program? Tong: We have a two-year educational curriculum for people who are interested in having advanced study in ministries. A program with extensive subjects has been designed for our on the job training. It's on a monthly training basis. The evening classes meet every Tuesday and Thursday. Gerry: Our elegant plan, which will be launched for next year, is the Pastoral Leadership Program School. We'll plan it as a comprehensive study on pastoral leadership for our future leaders in ministries. Q. In order to develop the Church's international perspectives, what are your plans and endeavor? Tong: On the first place, we have done many of our short term missions very successfully. We'll continue our effort to do them better. It's quite fruitful in each and every of our missionary trips. We have gone to many different places and have seen their needs. We have shared with their burdens through our brotherly love. In the second place, we'll continue our planning and implementation of our diversified ministry conferences. We'll share God's love and experience the growth of our faith through our future comprehensive conferences. In the third place, we plan to emphasize the development of the ministry faith pledge. Gerry: My findings on the building of an international perspective for our Church are: (1) In this 21 century, an international perspective for an organization is vital to its existence and development. (2) We need to put more effort in recruiting rich human and financial resources. Q. What's your expectation on the functions of the search engine leaders to the River of Life Christian Church? Tong: It's our pleasure that the search engine leaders have contributed a great deal to our websites. Google did very well. We hope they can put our "Devotion Hotline" on the internet for the mass public. A cooperation and development between ROLCC and WBTI through the functions of search engine leaders such as Google.cn, Yahoo.cn, AOl.com will bring with a bright future for many individuals locally, nationally, and internationally.*2 Gerry: (1) We have good websites. In order to be more successful for our websites, we need also to be favored by the search engine leaders. (2) To win their publications of our information every week is a good accomplishment. I'm glad WBTI and ROLCC deserve the honor.*3 "It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as the Honorary Chairman of Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out the Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas on October 10, 2002. With less than 48 hours until Nevadans head to the polls, I know that you are working hard to spread our message of change, and ensure the voter turnout that will make a difference on Tuesday. While I am continuing to meet as many voters as possible to talk about the issues at stake, I wanted to take a moment to share an exciting development. This morning I spoke with Green Party gubernatorial nominee Craig Bergland, who is asking his supporters and all who care about our energy independent future to join him in supporting my candidacy. As you know, the development of renewable energy technologies, capitalizing on the state抯 abundant solar, wind and geothermal resources, is a key element of my plan for Nevada. As governor, I will hold a renewable energy summit within my first 100 days in office, bringing together scientists and private sector businesses to develop a real plan for our alternative energy future. Bergland wrote in an email to members of the Green Party: 揝ince Ms. Titus is the only major candidate promising a task force on renewable energy within 100 days, and our other major candidate seems to favor more and bigger coal power plants, it is important that we all help elect the one candidate who most closely matches our Green philosophy. That of course is Dina Titus. 搮 a Washington Insider (Gibbons) becoming our governor may well spell the end of alternative energy in Nevada, he states. 揟herefore I especially urge you conservative voters who have recently written me to also vote for the person who is best capable of putting us on the good path to true security, sustainability and self-reliance. I believe that together we can make Nevada a national leader in renewable energy by supporting research and by bringing in businesses with the ability to manufacture renewable technologies. I pledge to all who believe in energy independence that as governor I will carry your commitment forward to a real plan and real action for Nevada抯 future. Thank you so much for all of your hard work as we head toward victory on Tuesday! Respectfully, Dina Titus, Nevada State Senate Minority Leader -------------------------------------------- About the author Senator Dina Titus has dedicated her entire professional life to education. The complete article of a modified flier will be posted in the morning on or before November 4, 2006.A Special message from Jim Gibbons By James A. Gibbons My Fellow Nevadans: I want to thank you for standing by my side and believing in me as my family and I have faced some of the ugliest, most shameful personal attacks ever seen in Nevada. My family and I will never forget your support, your words of encouragement and your efforts to help counter the false and misleading political attacks against me. We are now in the final stretch of this campaign. Early voting ends tomorrow, and together, we will work tirelessly through the weekend and on into Election Day to win this race. Our opponents and special interests backing her have believed all along that they could outwork us. They believed that they could tear us down and tire us out. Together, we will prove them wrong and show that this election is not just important to me, but it is critical for the future of our great state. Immediately after winning the primary election, I surprised the political pundits by agreeing to an unprecedented four general election debates. We promised to debate twice in Las Vegas, once in Reno and for the first time in recent history, we debated in Elko. Our campaign went in to those debates willing and ready to take on my opponent in spirited discussions about the issues important to you and all Nevadans. Without question, we won each and every debate. Why? Because we are right on the issues of taxes, education, affordable health care, growth and infrastructure. And, I have the record to prove where I stand. In the debates, we refused to follow my opponent into the gutter of nonstop, angry political attacks. We kept the discussion to the future of Nevada, and the issues that will shape our state for years to come. I have always maintained the highest level of respect for Nevada抯 fair-minded voters. They can see through the spin and the attacks, and take a candidate for their word, their experiences and their ability to lead. In recent weeks, we saw how desperate my opponent has become having gained no ground after the debates. Along with her trial lawyer friends and contributors, as well as union bosses and liberal special interest groups, she has presented Nevada voters with the nastiest personal smear campaign that this state has ever seen. She attacked my wife. She attacked my character. She put lies on television about allegations made against me that have been proven to be false. Thankfully, Nevada抯 voters Republicans, Democrats and Independents have seen through the smear, and they are rejecting her angry personal attacks. The momentum is clearly back on our side. Now, all we need to do is carry it into Election Day so that we can finish this campaign right where we started - in front. Through your continued efforts and hard work, I am confident that we will celebrate together on Tuesday night, November 7th. Finally, Dawn wants me to pass along her heartfelt gratitude for all your generosity and support. Not just your support for the campaign, but your personal support to our family. That means more to us than we can ever express in words. We will remain forever grateful. Sincerely, Jim Gibbons PS Please don抰 forget to get your friends, family members, neighbors and co-workers to vote on Election Day, November 7th. --------------------------- About the author Born and raised in Sparks, Nevada, United States Congressman Jim Gibbons was first elected to represent Nevada's 2nd District in the House of Representatives in 1996. Hallelujah! ***** Knowing how to live one's life with Jesus is a great art; and knowing how to hold him fast is the peak of wisdom. ---Thomas A. Kempis (1380-1471) [[[The skills of human relations are important!]]]: "Only 15 percent of a businessperson's success could be attributed to job knowledge and technical skills. An essential element but a small overall contribution. It showed that 85 percent of one's success would be determined by what they call 'ability to deal with people' and 'attitude'," showed the Carnegie Foundation study once. Sensitvity to the needs and desires of others people ultimately leads to success. Sir James Barrie told us that, "Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves." We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones: ***** "Remember that a man's name, to him, the sweetest and most important sound in any language." ---Dale Carnegie ***** He does good to himself/herself who does good to his friend. ---Erasmus ***** Man/woman lives more by affirmation than by bread. ---Victor Hugo ***** "Anyone can be polite to a king, but it takes a gentleman to be polite to a beggar." ---Jim shea ***** "You can handle people more successfully by enlisting their feelings than by convncing their reason." ---Paul P. Parker It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren: Dougls MacArthur is well known, but few know that he was not only a great general but was also very adept at human relations. He had an aide write a report of every visiting dignitary's background and interest. Yhe next time the dignitary returned, Macarthur was able to make the visitor feel important and flattered by all that he remembered about him. "Politeness is the hallmark of the gentle-man and the gentle-woman. No characteristic will so help one to advance, whether in business or society, as politeness. Competition is so keen today, there is so much standardized merchandise, there are so many places where one's wants can be supplied, that the success or failure of a business can depend on the ability to please customers or clients. Courtesy--another name for politeness--costs nothing, but can gain much both foe an individual and for an organization." ---B. C. Forbes*2 The six most important words in the English language are: "I admit I made a mistake." The five most important words: "You did a great job." The four most important words" "What is your opinion?" The three most important words:'If you please." The two most important words: "Thank you." The single most important word: "We." The least most impotant word: "I." President Dr. Tony Lei of Washington Business and Technology Institute reminds us that it is valuabe to take time to make the other person feel important, no matter how busy we are.*16 This Sunday October 22, 2006, the Sermon was delivered by Rev. Victor Quon, Pastor of River of Life Christian Church. The subject was "Prepare for Opposition." As the river that flows from the Holy Place, and the beauty of holiness brings worship anew. The 2006 theme is "Arise & Shine - Prepare the Way of the Lord." The Worship was directed by Pastor Doris Lin. MC was Rev. David Whitney. "Our Englsh Service is now advanced with the development of Cell groups. We've two groups now. As I've more than 20 individuals in my group, we'll develop it into two groups. Therefore, we'll soon have three groups," said Pastor Doris Lin. Highly blessed by God, the English Service of River of Life Christian Church was growing. The Salad and fruits were prepared by Miss Prudy Yu. "We're going to innovate. We'll have something new early in the coming year. Potentially, we'll recruit some more Caucasian ministers for our Sermon. Certaily, the development of our cell groups is very important," chatted Miss Meriany Lee in the Coffee/Tea Fellowship. It is our pleasure to post the address of River of Life Christian Church's website: rolcc.net "As you walk into the church, you might have noticed that we value the time of worship. What is worship? According to the scriptures, it means to come before God's throne. First, you must surrender yourself before the Lord, lay down your burdens and the things that you love to boast about, and solely look at the Lord. Next, you must open your heart before the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to work in you. Let Him soften your heart, heal your soul and speak to you. Sometimes, you might have some sensation in your body such as heat or electricity flowing through you. Do not be afraid because it means He is with you. These are the manifestation of God's presence," wroted Rev. Tong Liu.*17 Jesus said, "Everyone who bears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock." --- Matthew 7:24-25 of the "Bible" "Our knowledge, wisdom, and professionalism are all achieved by our sincere love to God!" pointed out President Dr. Tony T. By GSBPA of WBTI*1 ***** "Those who trust us, educate us." --- George Eliot ***** No man can be rich withot himself enriching others. ---Andrew Carnegie ***** "Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him and to let him know that you trust him." --- Booker T. Washington To be more successful for your Website, you need to be favored by the most famous search engine services like Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN, WebCrawl, and among others. On June 11, 2004, Nevada officials opened the first U.S. tourism office in China, hoping to boost the number of foreign visitors to the Silver State. Lorraine Hunt, Lt. Gov. of Nevada, led a delegation of state tourism and hotel representatives to China to celebrate the opening. "The state hopes to attract five million Chinese tourists a year," said Bruce Bommarito, executive director of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, He believes that China is the greatest potential market force in the world. "It's mind-boggling. The Chinese tourist is the highest-spending tourist in the world," said Bruce Bommarito.*2 Nevada is the only state in the country to obtain the required certification by the China National Tourism Administration to operate an office. "Nevada is a popular destination for Chinese tourists. Officials there say over 90% of the 250,000 people who travel to the United States from China stop in Nevada, primarily Las Vegas."*3 Indeed, business achievement is the new yardstick of success in today's society. Therefore, business has become not only the fastest growing major in undergraduate institutions but also in graduate school of famous universities, nationally and internationally. The emphasis of the online communication skills and the quantitative analysis techniques with computers is one of the most important study for the art of success to the business students, professionals, executives, and owners. In many ways, business school is at the center of this cultural phenomenon. For some, the business school is the passport to the boardroom, the ticket to the top of the corporate ladder. these schools, nationally and internationally, pump out the new generation of business leaders by hundreds of thousands. "They are the pipeline of raw material with which the nation's --- and the world's --- leading business build the future. And MBAs are not limited to the traditional corporate world: From Wall Street to Madison Avenue, from Sand Hill Road to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, today's MBAs lead organizations large and small, in every conceivable industry. They are the executives and entrepreneurs who power the economy."4 "UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN LIVING IN A CAVE, you've seen enormous changes in communications technology over the past two decades. From orbiting satellites routing long distance phone calls to email to undreamed-of growth of the Internet, the age of communicating online, using computers and networks, is upon us all," stated at the first paragraphy of the 'Introduction' of the book, "How to say it online: everything you need to know to master the new language of cyberspac," written by Kim Baker and Sunny Baker.*5 "And what could be better news? To keep in touch, there's nothing faster or cheaper than email. To gain access to information and people, the power of online communication expands your reach from the local to the global. To meet new friends and even romance a potential life partner, online venues provide rich opportunities (if you know the right things to say and the best way to say them). At school, the Internet places volumes of knowledge on ever subject at your fingertips, and at work, computer networks make business communication more efficient than ever." *6 Whether you are in business or in non-profit organization, you need to have a Web site. This seems to be a common wisdom in now- a-days. Think seriously about the needs of your market before you go onto the Web to make more money for business, to develop better non-profit organization, or to contribute to more community service. "It's hard to believe that Fred's Service Station really needs a Web Site to reap new profits. However, for some businesses and professional service firms, the Internet and web to gether offer viable marketing and distribution opportunities. Software companies, online magazines, and email order businesses can do quite well from the Web --- if the owners know how to say the right things on their sites. The Secrets of a Successful Web Site: Just having a site on the Web will do almost nothing to sell your products or services. To promote your Web site, there are three things you must do: (1). You must register your Web site with the best search engines. (2). You should consider using the many free and not free advertising opportunities on the Web. (3) You should search the Web regularly for competitive and related sites, where you can attach a link to your site."*7 To be more successful for your Web site, you need to be favored by the famous search engine services like Yahoo! (www.yahoo.com), Aol! (www.aol.com), Google! (www.google.com), Infoseek! (www.infoseek.com), among others. "There is no longer any such thing as a purely national economy. The rest of the world is just too big to ignore, either as a market or as a competitor. If business schools do nothing other than to train their students to think internationally, they would have accomplished an important task," said John Young, CEO, Hewlett-Packard.*8 Innovation is the key to success, managers are looking everywhere in the global organization for new ideas. Modern companies would view Information technology (IT) as a major competitive differentiator. Strategic businesses emphazise the ueses of information technology for management. International companies develop their global IT platforms by integrating worldwide hardware, software, and Internet-based network architecture. Commuunication technology, for example the teleconferencing and computer networks, is making it possible for people from subsidiaries around the world to work together on project. Many business are becoming global companies and moving toward transnational e-business strategies in which they integrate the global business activities of their subsidiaries and headquarters. The international dimemsions of managing global e-business technologies include dealing with cultural, political, and geoeconomic challenges posed by various countries for global marketplace. The e-business technologies are changing the distribution, relatonships, resources, and responsibilities of managers. Information Technology is helping managers of e-business to eliminate layers of amangement, enabling more collaborative forms of management, providing them with significant information technology resources, and confront them with major e-business and e-commerce challenge. Innovation is the key to success, managers are looking everywhere in the global organization for new ideas. Modern companies would view Information technology (IT) as a major competitive differentiator. Strategic businesses emphazise the ueses of information technology for management. International companies develop their global IT platforms by integrating worldwide hardware, software, and Internet-based network architecture. Commuunication technology, for example the teleconferencing and computer networks, is making it possible for people from subsidiaries around the world to work together on project.*9 In order to keep the online universe a productive, safe, communicative environment, it is interesting and worth to post the ten commandments for computer ethics. They were created by the Computer Ethics Institute: (1). Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other people. (2). Thou shalt not interfere with other people's computer work. (3). Thou shalt not snoop around in other people's files. (4). Thou shalt not use a computer to steal. (5). Thou shalt not use a computer to bear false witness. (6). Thou shalt not use or copy softwear for which you have not paid. (7). Thou shalt not use other people's computer resources without authorization. (8). Thou shalt not appropriate other people's intellectual output. (9). Thou shalt think about the social consequences of the program you write. (10). Thou shalt use a computer in ways that show consideration and respect. A sucessful businessperson always know the old rule that says "It's easier to keep an existing customer than to find a new one." In online customer relationships, this rule is just as important. Your goal should not only to get new visitors, but to cultivate your customer base to yield repeat sales, services, and referrals from satisfied purchasers, clients, and patronagers. "Besides a good product or service, there are only three things you need for successful online customer relations: strong communication, common courtesy, and exemplary customer service. Unfortunately, these old-fashioned values are often missing in many companies' online promotional communication." *10 To serve the community with wisdom and effort is one of the creed of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao received her B. A. degree in Economics with straight A's for all her four years at the famous Mount Holyoke College in New England. She obtained her M. B. A. degree from Harvard University in 1979. She also studied at M.I.T., Dartmouth College, and Columbia University. At the time she was nominated by President Bush as the Secretary of Labor, she told her father that she does not intend to be an "Authoritative Official". She hoped that she could contribute to our society and nation.*13 Secretary Chao has received numerous awards for her professional accomplishments and community service. She is the recipient of 21 honorary doctoral degrees from colleges and universities around the world. Secretary Chao is married to the Majority Whip of the United States Senate, Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. "Elaine L. Chao is the nation's 24th Secretary of Labor, representing a new generation of American leadership. Since her confirmation by the United States Senate on January 29, 2001, she has been dedicated to carrying out the Department of Labor's mission of inspiring and protecting the hardworking people of America. She is respected as an effective and articulate champion of the nation's contemporary workforce, acting quickly to focus the Labor Department on the modern realities of workers' lives." *14 "When President George W. Bush nominated Elaine L. Chao, the first Asian-American woman appointed to a President's cabinet in U.S. history, he described her as an individual with 搒strong executive talent, compassion, and commitment to helping people build better lives." According to the U. S. Department of Labor, Secretary Elaine Chao's compassionate nature stems from her own background as an immigrant to this country at the age of eight. Her family's experience transitioning to a new country, supported by one another and the kindness of friends and neighbors, taught her that encouragement is the key to fostering independence, and that Americans are naturally compassionate people. This inspired her to dedicate most of her professional life to ensuring that people have the opportunity to pursue lives of dignity and financial independence. As Director of the Peace Corps, Ms. Elaine Chao was one of the first Americans to personally embrace the people of the former communist bloc into the family of democratic nations, establishing Peace Corps programs in the Baltic nations of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the newly independent states of the former Soviet Union. Later, as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of America, she restored public trust and confidence after the organization was tarnished by mismanagement and financial abuse, thus preserving the nation's largest institution of private charitable giving. The experience Ms. Elaine Chao gained at the United Way helping communities address their local needs prepared her to mobilize the Department of Labor to promote pathways to economic freedom for individuals and families working to achieve the American Dream. She describes her vision for America's workforce as 搊one in which everyone can participate where jobs and opportunities are available for those leaving welfare, job training is accessible for those left behind, disability never bars a qualified person from the workplace, and where parents have an easier time balancing the responsibilities of work and home. "Secretary Chao's previous government career includes serving as the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, and Deputy Maritime Administrator in the U.S. Department of Transportation. She brings a wealth of business experience to the post, having worked as Vice President of Syndications at BankAmerica Capital Markets Group and a banker with Citicorp. Prior to her nomination as Secretary, she expanded her study of policy as a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based public policy research and educational institute. She was selected as a White House Fellow in 1983," states the Department.*15 Following the inspiration of the past many years of the accomplishment of Ms. Elaine Chao's contribution of humane spirit to our society, we have the persistense of Wou Shien's spirit for education here in America. If a coolie and hard woker like him could dedicate to eduction by offering all his income and life to build a school for children in his village, what should not for us to offer our efforts for our community? *16 --------------------------- References *1. S. A. --- A true American patriot and hero who fought for the poor and the disenfranchised By Tiffany Chang Lined with political and judicial dignitaries on the Thursday's funeral services for Mike O'Callaghan at March 11, 2004, but there's no doubt the former Governor of Nevada O'Callaghan would have been elated to know that a hard-luck veteran like Norm had taken time to bid him farewell. Before the start of the service, Norm came into the crowded Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on crutches and took a seat. "Norm was homeless when he first met O'Callaghan in the late 1980s. Now 79 years old, the World War II veteran never forgot his encounter on the street with the generous and caring former Nevada governor. Although O'Callaghan had been a war hero and hugely popular politician, he was known to the needy in Southern Nevada as one of a handful of nearly anonymous volunteers who, rain or shine, poured coffee and handed out doughnuts," wrote John Smith at his column.*1 "While U.S. Sen. Harry Reid led a heart-felt lineup of eulogists who included each of O'Callaghan's grown children, the church also held hundreds of others who'd also been touched by the bear-sized Irishman with the big grin and seemingly boundless capacity for caring. Homeless advocate linda Lera-Randle El sat beside Norm and couldn't help smiling at the thought the funeral had drawn such a broad spectrum of humanity to say goodbye to the people's governor." *2 Tom Daschle, Senae Democratic Leader, remembers O'Callaghan at the Senate in Washington, D. C.. One day after thousands of Nevadans paid their respects to former Gov. Mike O扖allaghan in Las Vegas, Daschle praised O'Callaghan on the Senate floor Friday. Daschle called Mike O'Callaghan "a true American Patriot and Hero --- who 揻fought for the poor and the disenfranchised....each and every day of his life." *3 "Pepperdine University affirms ........ That truth, having nothing to fear from investigation, should be pursued relentlessly in every discipline ......... That knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service." *4 Mike O'Callaghan, former Governor of Nevada, U. S. A. died February 6, 2004 at age 74. "To the end Las Vegas Sun Chairman Mike O'Callaghan's desk was awash in a sea of paperwork that covered every square inch od space." *5 "Teacher, boxer, Korean War hero, newspaperman, humanitarian and the most popular governor in state history: Nevadans remembered Mike O'Callaghan." *6 "Whether it was on the battlefield, in the boxing ring or in the political arena, anyone who tangled with Mike O'Callaghan never came away unscathed. He was a born fighter, the caliber of charater worthy of the pen of jack London and Earnest Heimingway." *7 "It's difficult to think of Nevada --- or the Las Vegas Sun --- without Mike O'Callaghan, but we are comforted by the knowledge that his spirit of giving and compassion will live on through the many thousands of lives he touched.' *8 "It goes well beyond what O'Callaghan did as a two-term governor --- proving incomparable help for seniors and consumers, increasing rights and representations for minorities and moving the state's educational system forward. 'Gov. Mike' O'Callaghan welcome any reporter -- current, past, prospective -- into his office. ... When your door is alwas open, the world comes in. And Gov. Mike never turned it away." *10 "Former Governor Mike O'Callaghan, who passed away Friday morning, has been an inspiration to me since I was 15 years old." *8 "Mike was my teacher in school, but didn't just teach me things out of a book -- he also taught me how to finght, and how to stand up for what I believe. I will miss him, and Nevada will miss him," pointed out U. S. Senator Harry Reid at his Whip Round Up.*11 "I'm around people who think they're important. Here was a man who was important, and he always treated you with warmth and dignity and never pulled rank," said Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.*13 "Mike always directed his efforts toward the people who needed help. His reward was knowing that he did the right thing," said Brian Greenspun, Las Vegas Sun editor and President.*14 "As governor, he wasn't afraid of the media. Nor was he afraid to speak his mind," wrote Jane Ann Morrison.*15 "That's who Mike O'Callaghan was. He knew people by name, by who they were and by what made them tick. He never cared much for what they did or how successful they were, only that they were good parents or good children. And he didn't judge. He just understood." * 16 ""I'LL NEVER understand how life can be so unfair at times -- why we have to lose people we love, people who mean so much o us.... How could you not love a man who gave so much of himself to so many people and asked for nothing inreturn?" *17 "Berkley was a college student in 1972.... Mike told me...Not knowing the young woman at all, Weinberger handed Berkley a chek. "We're deeply sorry that we lost a hero of righteousness for our Asian American friends in Nevada. This brings to my mind the urgency of our times in this Silver State. We note the vanishing of many heroes that built the world of Nevada since the last few years. We recognize that the best way to honor those who have gone before us is to rise up and find the greatness in our own lives, the strength of charater, the vision and courage, the determination and selflessness to address the challenges that still lay before us," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of WBTI, on March 7, 2004 in Las Vegas. "I knew that I had a friend and could speak freely with him. Mike O'Callaghan set a standard in this office that i have always worked to maintain. I lost a friend and a role model," said Governor Kenny Guinn of Nevada, U. S. A.*21 The following is the most recent post by us for the Office of Governor Kenny Guinn:*22 For Immediate Release: March 5, 2004 Print Version (Word) Contact: Greg Bortolin or John Trent 775-684-5670 GOV. GUINN STATEMENT ON GOV. MIKE O'CALLAGHAN CARSON CITY - Gov. Kenny Guinn issued the following statement today on the passing of former Gov. Mike O'Callaghan. "Nevada lost a treasure today. I lost a friend and a role model. As a veteran, he demonstrated how to proceed in life despite the loss of a limb. As a teacher in Henderson he influenced a generation of students. As Governor, he left a legacy as one of the most popular figures in our state's history, tackling such tough issues as the welfare of disadvantaged children, the preservation of Lake Tahoe and affordable housing in Las Vegas. As the editor of the Las Vegas Sun, he served not only as an important voice in Nevada, but also acted as its conscience. As a devoted husband and father, he took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. "As Superintendent of the Clark County School District, I could expect early morning telephone calls from Governor O'Callaghan. But more importantly, I knew that I had a friend and could speak freely with him. Mike O'Callaghan set a standard in this office that I have always worked to maintain. "On behalf of the people of Nevada, Dema and I send our deepest condolences to the former First Lady, Carolyn, their children and grandchildren." *23 U. S. Senator Harry Reid served as the former Governor of Nevada Mike O'Callaghan's Lieutenant Governor. On March 11, 2004, Harry addressed a crowd of 2,000 at the memorial service for O'Callaghan. He told the crowd that Mike was a close friend and trusted adviser for decades. "If you were doing your best, it was good enough for Mike. If you were right and fighting for it, Mike was by your side,' Harry told the crowd with tears in his eyes. "What more could someone ask for in a father figure than Mike O'Callaghan?" *24 We have the the "Whip Round Up" post here soon after we received the E-mail and Fax of it from the Office of Senator Harry Reid in Washington, D. C. this afternoon on March 12, 2004: *25 "Reid for Nevada" Reid Works to Reduce Youth Suicide *Senator Harry Reid introduced bipartisan legislation to prevent youth suicide. "Week in Review" Senate Approves Budget Resolution - After a long day Thursday, the Senate early Friday morning approved a $2.4 trillion budget resolution for FY 2005 that would increase homeland security and military spending. The Republican majority defeated a series of Democratic amendments that would have added funding for veterans health care, law enforcement and education, by rolling back a portion of the tax cuts for people who make over $1 million a year and closing corporate tax loopholes. Democrats did succeed in adding a 損ay as you go?amendment to the budget, requiring that any future tax cuts be offset by reduced spending or other sources of revenue. Exceptions could be made only with a 60-vote majority. House Republican leaders have threatened to kill the 損ay as you go?measure, however. Tax Bill Tackles Outsourcing- A corporate tax bill Support Builds for Drug Reimportation - A move to allow reimportation of prescription drugs from Canada gained support last week. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) said he can no longer justify voting against reimportation when prescriptions in Canada cost roughly half their price in the United States. And Mark McClellan, whom President Bush has nominated to head the Medicare program, promised to work with Senate leaders on the issue. Senator Reid has voted to allow the safe reimportation of drugs. Daschle Remembers O'Callaghan - One day after thousands of Nevadans paid their respects to former Gov. Mike O扖allaghan in Las Vegas, Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle praised O扖allaghan on the Senate floor Friday. Daschle called O'Callaghan 揳 true American Patriot and Hero --- who 揻ought for the poor and the disenfranchised --- each and every day of his life." "INSIDER'S CALENDAR" The Senate will not be in session next week. The Senate will convene Monday, March 22, at 12:00 noon, and resume consideration of the Foreign Sales Corporations (FSC/ETI) bill. "INSIDER'S CALENDAR" The Senate will convene Monday, March 8, at 12:00 noon, and begin consideration of the FY 2005 Budget Resolution. There will be no roll call votes on Monday. Under the Budget Act, the resolution is limited to 50 hours of debate. The Senate is expected to complete action on the resolution prior to the March recess. The Senate will not be in session during the week of March 15. "Reid's Words" "I am astounded that the Republican majority in the Senate is more worried about the bank accounts of multi-millionaires than the health of our nation抯 veterans. I hope they will reconsider their refusal to roll back a portion of the tax cut for people who make over $1 million a year, so we can give our veterans the health care they need." http://reid.senate.gov Fax: (202) 228-7362 Phone: (202) 224 - WHIP ------------------------------ References *1. C. Tony T.
