The American dream realized by U. S. Senator John Ensign and his great grandfather
By GSBPA of WBTI*1

@@@@@ One person with a belief is a social power equal to ninety-nine who have only interests. ---John Stuart Mill, "Representative Government", 1861
***** Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity. ---Oprah Winfrey
*** Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower. ---Albert Camus
*** The secret of joy in work is contain in one word -- excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it. ---Pearl Buck
*** Management is nothing more than motivating other people. ---Lee Iacocca

"America is a stronger and better nation because of the hard work and the faith and the entrepreneurial spirit of immigrants," said President Bush of the United States of America on Wendesday, January 7, 2004. "Our nation needs an immigration system that serves the American economy and reflets the American dream." *2

"Elaine Chao and John Ensign are two of the most comtemporary heroes who have realized the Ameican Dream which was encouraged for a long time by U. S. Senator Harry Reid. Under the spiritual leadership of them, WBTI has a bright endeavor for its proclamation and creed on the belief that the encouragement and promotion of academic research, community service, and humane spirit will bring our effort for a peaceful and prosperous community," said Christine Hu, Esq. at the time when she was informed of her appointment as an Assistant Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) by WBTI on December 16, 2003.*3

People are interested in having a little more understanding about the successful story of U. S. Senator John Ensign after they read the above expression by Christine. It's our pleasure to offer our viewers more about it by reprinting the following two articles:
-------------------------------

John Ensign honored as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of WBTI
By Tiffany Chang

North Las Vegas Justice Court Judge-elect Natalie Tyrell once wrote a letter of appreciation to Dr. Tony Lei from her Office, "....I want to share with you my favorite quote. It is by the great Winston Churchill. It exemplifies the driving force by which I start out each day. He said, 'We all make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.' ...." By the act of love itself, we are enriched. Love in action is service above self. We encourage people to make service a part of our characters and experience the abundant reward that comes from serving others.

U. S. Senator-elect John Ensign's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and taught his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to build and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to America to seek the American dream. Even though not all of them can realize their American dream, eventually they could teach and help their children accomplish their contributions to our country.

As a born-again Christian, people have been inspired by his sincererity, humbleness, and credibility much more than just his wealthy and handsome appearance now. On October 15, John attended the worship service of the Liberty Baptist Church. He offered a short speech of testifmony. He said that he was very frustrated with his first taste of political failure, when he lost by a mere 428 votes to U. S. Senator Harry Reid. However, he believes God and has surrendered his fate to God. John's faith in God helped him to overcome his frustration and disappointment and enabled him to continue to strive to succeed. The Bible says "...though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed (1 Peter 1:6-7)". If a window was closed, God might re-open the window or even open a different door for those who are eager to utilize his or her knowledge and expertise to serve. As all Christians acknowledge - with God, anything is possible.

People believed with John that he said, "I have the passion for the fight and the unshakable belief that together we can build a better Nevada." In the Pastor Teis' meeting Office, John agreed with Dr. Tony Lei, also a born-again Chrisitan, that WBTI would honor him as Advisor and Vice Chairman of its Advisory Board. In the first paragraph of this column on September 15, it is stated that on September 7, U. S. Senate Candidate John Ensign wrote: "Please accept my best wishes as you come together in celebration of the Thai Performaning Arts, Appreciation Day 2000. The importance of sharing culture through art and festivities that bring people together serves to enhance all of us more by enriching our lives with the diversity of people and their customs. I especially would like to extend my appreciation to Dr. Tony T. Lei for his commitment and enthusiastic support of the Thai Performing Arts." John received Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree form the Colorado State University in 1985. He accepted Dr. Tony Lei's invitation as a Guest Speaker to talk about protecting Social Security and Medicare for our Nevadan seniors at a Forum held by Seniors United. He believes that America must honor its words to seniors. His scholastic and gentle appearance has won a lot of applause and respect.

In community service, Dr. Tony Lei's hero is the great servant who has given all for the betterment of others' lives. Let our candles fuel a fire that will fan out an ever-lasting circles. With these circles together we can close our eyes and envision a community that is safe, peaceful, and healthy. The Bible teaches: "...let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth (1 John 3:18)." District (Family) Court Judge-elect Cheryl Moss wrote Dr. Tony Lei, "I am delighted and honored to be appointed as an Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Thank you for this opportunity to serve, and I hope to gain more knowledge, insight and awareness about public service and community issues through your prestigious institution. I remain dedicated to helping the community, and I am inspired by your leadership, wisdom and guidance. I am also fortunate to have met you and your wife, Judy, because you are both active and dynamic individuals in the community. Your accomplishments and achievements have demonstrated that taking part in the community does make a difference. Best wishes and thank you again for your unselfish kindness, support and encouragement." Power in politics should have a direction that the power based on knowledge is the power of righteousness. We wish that a pure fountain may prosper and enrich our spendid and golden country through the spirit that knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service. "In God we trust. Life is for the purpose to serve our lovely society," Dr. Tony Lei stated.

In Seniors United, we shall have a nice celebrating party for Christmas with good entertainment. We invited heartfeltly all our members and friends to join us a joyful reunion. Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!*4

John Ensign: a born-again Christian
By Tiffany Chang

It is not very possible for anybody all the way with good luck from the beginning to the end of his or her whole life. One will enevitably face somekind of frustration. The attitude that one holds in facing one's frustration will, nevertheless, decide what would be his or her fate to be followed. If anybody gives up soon after he or she gets a frusration or difficulty, then the following days for his or her life will most probably be in dead end.

John Ensign has been impressived as a handsome, strong, and rich man. He has been long time identified as son of big casino leading figure of Mandalay Bay. John believes the struglling effort to success. He used to remind us of his humble beginnings. His mother was a change girl in Reno. Supporting three children with no help from her ex-husband when she met and married Mike Ensign. She went on to become a person and now she is the wife of famous Chairman of Mandalay Bay Group. John's great-grandfather first came to Nevada almost a hundred years ago as a miner and labored in its towns. This respectable man worked hard to provide for his family and teach his children the value of hard work, integrity, and independence. "The significance of life is to build and educate the continuous lives of the universe," said Dr. Tony Lei, President of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI). People came to here even not being able for all of them to realize their American dream but eventurely they could teach and help their children accomplish their contributions for our country.

John's wife, Darlene, encouraged him into his first political race for Congress. Earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1995, his scholarstic and gentle appearance has won lots of applause and respect from knowledgeable ladies in social activities. It was when he was attending veterinarian school that John became a born-again Christian. He was urging by Darlene to become involved in a men's Christian group.

In the first paragraph of this column on September 15, it stated that on September 7, U. S. Senate Candidate John Ensign wrote: "Please accept my best wishes as you come together in celebration of the Thai Performaning Arts, Appreciation Day 2000. If a window was closed, God might re-open the window or even open a door for the people who is eager to utilize his or her knowledge and expertise to serve. The matter is that we should believe God. Congretulations! Republican U.S. Senator-elect Honorable John Ensign.

Biography

Ph.D. Tufts University
Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow, Stanford University

My intellectual interest is the contact zone, where conflicts occur and solutions are sought, where hybridity is nurtured or resisted, where identity is challenged and performed. I focus on intercultural exchanges along the Pacific Rim, especially interactions between Asians and Asian Americans and negotiations between Asian and non-Asian cultures.

My book Operatic China: Staging Chinese Identity Across the Pacific (Palgrave, 2006) is an investigation of Chinese opera and identity performance in such geographical and ideological contact zones. Chinese opera is a symbol of eternal Chineseness for theatrical and paratheatrical performances by Chinese and non-Chinese in various geopolitical sites (nineteenth-century Chinatown of the Gold Mountain, late-Qing political reforms and actors~{!/~} rebellions, Chinese Americans~{!/~} amateur opera performance in California, Asian American theatre and global film market).

Alternative Chinese Opera in the Age of Globalization: Performing Zero (Palgrave, 2011) is a study of ~{!0~}alternative Chinese opera,~{!1~} contemporary innovative forms of traditional operas on the Pacific Rim. It provides an in-depth examination of local performances and balances discourse on the local and global, personal and political, national and transnational, tradition and innovation, center and peripheries, home and diaspora in the age of globalization. The alternative voices from the peripheries include Innovative Beijing opera in Taiwan, Cantonese opera in Hong Kong, Kun opera in California, and Robert Wilson's Beijing opera experiment in Taiwan.

I have actively participated in the international discourse on performance and have published and presented works on traditional Chinese theatre, Asian American theatre, Chinese immigrant theatre and intercultural theatre, both in English and in Chinese. I currently serve on the Executive Committee of American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) and on the editorial board for Theatre Survey. As a negotiator of cultures and languages, I also constantly engage in translation and interpretation projects related to Chinese opera on a transnational scale.

I challenge students to open their minds, to think critically and globally. I am devoted to a multicultural curriculum in theatre studies that reflects the global needs of the twenty-first century. Multicultural Spring, a program I launched in spring, 2007, is my effort to integrate multicultural and interdisciplinary performance into our regular curriculum. My passion for diversity extends to the professional field: I serve on the Advisory Board of Asian American Theatre Company (AATC), and on the Diversity Advisory Council of Laguna Playhouse.

The Sun is shinning this morning! Both Obama and McCain are the winner and achiever of Success in our Presidential Election 2008 for our Country's Distinguished History. This is the great country in our World with a precious property of 'Freedom, Democracy, Entrepreneurship, and Judiciary'. It has drawn the people from most of countries all around the world to pursue and journey a happier and richer village of the Earth in America!

"For the effort, diligence, and effectiveness to our country in the History, we are humbly all the contributors of this accomplishment. We'll all win through faith and perseverance as the Americans in America for a happy and prosperous country with the righteousness of union!" *1 "Success is a happy thing. Achievement is even more important. To emphazise both the ones who are with office (authority) and who are with influence (power) will probably a practice for the motto of 'United We Stand!' -- to be not just a dream!"

OBAMA, Barack, a Senator from Illinois; born in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 4, 1961; obtained early education in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Hawaii; continued education at Occidental College, Los Angeles, Calif.; received a B.A. in 1983 from Columbia University, New York City; worked as a community organizer in Chicago, Ill.; studied law at Harvard University, where he became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, and received J.D. in 1991," posts the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress.*397 "Obama, Barack. The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. New York: Crown Publishers, 2006."

U. S. Senator Barack Obama has been one of the Distinguished Authors of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).
WBTI's suggestion was, "John F. Kennedy won the presidential election with his outstanding performance by TV. The time now is the era of Internet and Search Engine Giants are marching on the road of Innovative Marketing!" The rising Senator Barack Obama, US Presidential Candidate, is one of the Distinguished Authors with outstanding work performance in writing, inspiring, and learning.

The feature articles written by Barack Obama in the PPAA Forum of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) have been enhanced by the world's leading search engines on Internet for positive and effective publicity promptly. His slogans and missions for election have been initiated, innovated, and refined by the efforts of his Campaign and WBTI interchangingly and mutually.

With Modern Stratagem, highlighted by the "$5 Modern Stratagem", which was invented and refined by WBTI through the theory and practice of Dr. Peter F. Drucker's Innovative Marketing, Barack has set up a sound foundation in winning. The significance of Barack Obama's local, national, and international visibility and popularlity has then enhanced by the brilliance of world's leading search engines on Internet all the way until his final winning as President-elect of the United States of America on January 5, 2008.

The U.S. Election 2008 has won a positive and historic record for the maximum population of people no matter of what differences in America or in many places arround the world that interested, participated or learned the event and education.

The Faculty and Advisory Board members of WBTI together with its President Dr. Tony T. Lei thanks hearfeltly and humbly for the opportunity given by Barack to learn and practise one of its missions for community service in this recent two years. We think and act; we act and think; and therefore, together we are. We all win. The journey on our accomplishment with Obama is now in action. It's a very challenged tasks and responsibilities. For Barack, for Entrepreneurship with Innovation, and most importantly for the people, we should learn to be more humble, diligent, and efficient with improvement and positive change! How nice and lucky that for more than 16 years we find a Man who is making and imlpementing our modern and distinguished history! As he is now leading in action, we are happy to have a new experience to learn more inspiration in change. Praise God!!!

Neveda has been famous internationally for its Governor’s Conference on Tourism every year. It is the time now to get our professionals in familiar with the coming one!

"The 2007 Nevada Governor’s Conference on Tourism (December 12-14, 2007) highlights the pertinent topics you need to know for increased profitability and tourism market share including NEW for 2007! workshop track sessions designed to fit your individual professional interests. This year’s conference marks the introduction of four tracks that each focus on a specific tourism industry niche," states the Nevada Commission of Tourism. "On December 12, 2007, at 8:30 am - 9:00 am there will be the Welcome and Introduction. In the 'Welcome and Introduction' of General Assembly, we shall have Jim Gibbons, Governor, and Brian K. Krolicki, Lieutenant Governor, State of Nevada for the 'Opening Remarks'. The 'Introduction' will be delivered by the Commissioner of NCOT Lorraine T. Hunt-Bono. The topic of the Assembly will be on "Growth: Challenges and Opportunities". *1'

Innovation is practical for a real need. It is not a random process. "When it works, it works because someone has identified a real need, and found a way to bring new ideas or new technologies to bear on that need," said Lewis W. Lehr. An innovator's life is governed by "to create" lists. She or he is incessantly pursuing new possibilities and refinning existing ones.

"Business has only two functions," wrote the late Professor Peter Drucker, "marketing and innovation."

"One of my interests since I've been in this position on March 27, 2004 is to encourage the mutual cooperation and development of tourism and business between Nevada and the Asian Countries," said Associate Professor Barbara E. Buckley of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).

Supported by the Advisory Board and faculty members of WBTI since then with wisdom of cooperation and publicity through articles, its missions helped her win the election as Speaker of the Nevada Assembly in last November.

Our coming work performance to some significant projects will be feature articles for the visibility and popularity of some international cities through the world's leading search engines on Internet: (1) Beijing, (2) Soel, (3) Taipei, (4) Macau, (5) Bangkok, and (6) Clark County ("Las Vegas"). Tourism and business are our best priorities for the International Cities Business Council (ICBC) of WBTI, nothing much about politics. The late Dr. Peter F. Drucker inspired us that, "Innovation is very important. No good business can survive without successful innovation during a period of time!" Nevada is the fountain of hospitality and touring business. Macau is a recent practice with Nevada to have great prosperity in tourism and economic development. Now, Nevada Assemblywoman Francis Allen is a Regional Marketing Administrator of Korea of the AMI and Advisor of the ICBC of WBTI. For innovation and breakthrough in the field of business, the wise men may have a bright and beautiful sky!

To encourage tourism and business is a world-wide value for every country in this world, not just for Nevada! Volunteerly on a non-profit and non-partisan basis, we are pleased to assist the promotion of this endeavor. We love heartily the world that we are living with!

Innovation is one of the most important traits for the prosperity of American business. The time has come for our Pan Pacific and Asian countries to emphazise and catch it as soon as possible!

Imagination is important for an individual and institution. It is the ability to perceive opportunity. Imagination may produce creativity. Creativity contributes profit and prosperity for an institution. Where imagination and innovation are encouraged, it floirish. Innovation is doing something different. Innovation comes from people and it requires insight.

*** Imagination is more important than knowledge. ---Albert einstein
*** The human race is governed by its imagination. ---Napoleon
*** Inspiration and imagination go hand in hand. ---Annonymous
*** Every vital organization owes its birth and life to an exciting and daring idea. ---James B. Conant

It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

What is serendipity? It is discovering something totally unrelated to the problem you are trying to solve. Call it an accident, dumb luck, or fate--serendipity has given our world great products, new hope, and better ways of doing things.
Foe example, Columbus discovered America while searching for a route to India. It is said that the American Indians, finding no water for cooking, tapped a maple tree and made the first maple wyrup as the sap boiled down. Pioneers, traveling westward, stopped for water and found gold nuggets in a stream. These are all examples of serendipity.
However, the classic example of serendipity must go to George Ballas. As George Ballas drove his car through a car wash, ... Why not use a nylon cord, whirling at high speed to trim the grass and weeds around trees and the house? Bingo! the Weedeater was born!
... Finally, in 1971, Ballas invested his own money in the first thirty- pound Weedeaster. ...
Before long, Weedeater, Inc., grew into a multimillion-dollar international corporation. Yes, one idea can be worth a fortune. Weedeater, Inc., was born from a simple idea in a car wash. *2

Do you believe Chairman of Apple Computer John Scully said that, "Innovation has never come through bureaucracy and hierarchy. It's always come from individuals"?

"Adelson said Cotai and Macau will combine to make the Chinese region the Las Vegas of the Far East," posted the LVRJ on May 28, 2006. The report was entitled "The Development of Cotai Strip Helps Complete a Personal Vision for 72-year-old Sheldon Adelson - Creating a Second Las Vegas ---Up to 3 billion People Live a Short Distance from Macau" by Howard Stutz, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News.*3

"More images Macau took a giant step toward becoming the Las Vegas of Asia with yesterday's opening of the world's biggest casino. The $2.4 billion Venetian Macao Resort Hotel is the centerpiece of a $12 billion 'integrated resort' development - the first Las Vegas-style megacasino on a sliver land called the Cotai Strip,"
posted the 'Business & Money' on August 29, 2007. It was reported by Suzette Parmley,

Former Governor Kenny Guinn of Nevada expressed that 'he can not overemphasize the significance and importance of bringing attention to all the attractions to Nevada at a time when it faces unprecedented competition for gaming customers.' He believes that we are wise to expand our marketing efforts and focus on developing markets in places such as Asia. Kenny emphasizes that for our state's economy to thrive, all of the Silver State's tourism opportunities must be effectively marketed to both domestic and international visitors.

Many of them won the highest votes at their judicial and political elections. "People worry about the huge amount of creativity that is wasted---lost forever---because talented people are prevented from giving their best by their lack of ability to influence others effectively," wrote Dr. Ken Blanchard in the 'Foreword' of the book entitled "Winning Ways," written by Dick Lyles.*6 "The business world has changed; organizations are getting flatter and more networked. Today, the key to success is one's ability to exercise peer leadership. The most successful individuals shine because of their ability to influence, empower, and energize others. In essence, they embody the principles and practices of Winning Ways." *7

In this 21st Century new era and society, we need economic growth and personal prosperity, but we need also to establish and promote creativity, fairness and justice, serve and love, educational knowledge, and spirit engineering. We wish that a pure fountain may prosper and enrich our splendid and silver country through: the power of public service that based on knowledge is the power of rightousness; the advancement of technology, entreprenueship, and innovation; and the spirit that knowledge calls, ultimately, for a life of service.*8

"Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) has endeavored to academic research, community service, and humane spirit since its establishment in January 8, 1996. ***** Disciples with expertise, integrity, and humane spirit
from the marketplace will certainly enhance
the implementation of our mission to
'Arise & Shine - Ignite Our City' for 2007.

---John K. Lei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ROLCC

------------------------------------------
"Shalom Tony & Judy: Thank you very much for your faithful serving God, WBTI and remember sunday school start on Jan. 28. I am so impressed. May God bless your wonderful work and serving heart. Please see the attched file for sunday school lesson 1. Belinda," wrote Mrs. Belinda M. Liu to Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) early in the morning on February 1, 2007.

"I've been invited to serve the Lord out of town. In April this year I'll lead a mission to ̨¸£ (Logos Evangelical Seminary) in Los Angeles. The Drama Team will follow me to have a performance there. A cell group is also planning to join us to worship there. In the Women Conference on September, Mrs. Darlene Cunningham has been invited by me as a Kenote Speaker. She's famous. She loves China and Chinese very much. She has dreamed to be a preacher for Chinese since her youth. To unite our work with other organizations is a key to our innovative endeavor," talked Mrs. Belinda Liu, Founder of Double Portion Ministries, at her Sunday School on February 4, 2007.

In all three services at ROLCC on February 4, 2007, Rev. Tong Liu introduced the 2007 new Board of Directors. Director Mr. John K. Lei is the Chairman of the new Board. Director Mr. Gerry Liu is the Treasurer. Director Mr. Daniel Chou is the Corporate Secretary. Director Linda Pao is responsible for Human Resources. Director Robert Huang is responsible for Missions. Rev. Liu prayed to God for a successful year to ignite our city with the endeavors of the Board.

"Disciples with expertise, integrity, and humane spirit in the marketplace will certainly enhance the implementation of our mission to 'Arise & Shine - Ignite Our City' in 2007. A strong English adult service is vital to ROLCC's goal to become a 'Home for All Nations'. 5 years ago I had visions of our English adult service packed with people. I have faith God will bless our English service. Let us all invite our friends and family to the 3rd service!" wrote John Lei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ROLCC, on February 4, 2004.

LIVERight, a community service HBV free blood screen/seminar took place on Saturday, 1/13 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This was a joint effort between Asian Liver Center (ALC) at Stanford University and Holiday Plaza Series at River of Life Christian Church (ROLCC). We are really thankful that this collaboration was a great success. ALC and ROLCC are embracing the same vision in serving the community via community awareness seminar/blood screen on one of the biggest killers, hepatitis B/liver cancer in Asian community. We had 238 people screened over the event; approximately 400 audiences came for the presentation. At large or little, we knew we had made the difference.

About 20 volunteers from ALC and 15 volunteers from ROLCC came to help out the event. Dr. So did the presentation in English with Jordan Su's concurrent translation to Mandarin. Many people gave positive feedback, and everyone I spoke to felt that they have learned a lot of useful life-saving tips! The event started by having the audience to watch the film. I was really touched after watching the film that told many stories on how hepatitis B had impacted the lives of many. I remember vividly Dr. So¡¦s interview in the movie: ¡§I am just very sick of seeing so many young lives lost every day due to HBV/liver cancer¡¨. This was why liver transplant surgen, Dr. So decided to found ALC to serve the community. In the presentation, Dr. So once again reminded us how serious hepatitis B is impacting the Asians and Asian Americans. In certain part of China , the impact was much worse-1/6 of population is infected by HBV. He spoke about the trasmission route for hepatitis B. He spoke about what each of us should do. If people are not carriers, they should definitely get the 3-slot immunization as soon as possible, which will protect them for life. If they are HBV carriers, they need to monitor their liver status on a regular basis. They should go to their doctor to have their liver function and ALPHAFETO PROTEIN level checked every half year plus annual ultrasound exam. In addition, he told the story about a medical intern who had hepatitis B but lack of awareness, died of liver cancer at very young age. This sad story continues to linger on people¡¦s mind and serves as a good reminder of being educated on this important topic. He ended by stating the mission and work at ALC. Many people that came to the event raised a lot of questions. During Q/A session, Dr. So further spoke about the difference between hepatitis A, B and C. He explained about the outcome of missing one last slot during the 3 shot immunization course and the impact of it if the schedule of 3-shots immunization is different from it is recommended. In addition, he commented about the use of herbal supplements and why some people can't donate blood even though they are not carriers. The event actually ran into 4.45 pm, and many people's questions still could not be answered due to time constrains.

To me, this joint event between ALC and ROLCC is just a starting. Based on the feedback we got from the attendants, we hope to see more ALC-ROLCC collaborative projects happened in times to come. We believe that this combined effort will provide the best service and a blessing to the community!

This event was beyond our expectation and turn out a great success. Of course, the most comforting thing to know is that some people's lives will be saved because of the knowledge they learn!

We pray that Lord will continue to bless the vision of ALC and ROLCC and to those people who attended the event.

The above five paragraphs are reported by Dr. Ingrid Ou.*1

Dr. Ingrid Ying C. Ou is a senior scientist working for ALZA, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical in Mountain View, CA. Ingrid got her doctoral degree from University of Washington , Seattle . Her passion in life is to serve the Lord and live up to HIS glory using her skills and interests in medicine. She also greatly enjoys serving the Lord in Single Adult and Children ministry (choir and musical program) at ROLCC. She believes that being Christian is not all about going to church. She believes that God¡¦s words can really equip us to a much better player in all areas of our life, at work and in the family. God's words are relevant to our daily lives; He helps us to achieve a higher level that we could not have done by our own means. In the spare time, Dr. Ingrid Ou enjoys ballet, running and playing piano. She and her husband currently reside in Sunnyvale, CA.

"In this era where massive amount of information is often found via internet, I think that the mission of WBTI is timely and visionary. The impact of Lord in the community will be enlarged via web publishing and more of Good news will be effectively going to those who need them the most," pointed out Dr. Ingrid Ou.*2

Dear Dr. Lei, Hope that you enjoyed the Dr. So's talk yesterday. As indicated in my email to you earlier this week, below is the script that I promoted last week at the English congregation:

"Happy New Year, Brothers and Sisters. This is coming Saturday, we will have the privilege of having Dr. So from Stanford, Asian Liver Center to come here to give us an education seminar on liver health. This is an event that you can't afford to miss. Why do I say this? Let me start by showing you a patient interview video clip by Anthony. (http://liver.Stanford.edu/Mult/Mult_video.php).

Yes, Anthony is right. People who have hepatitis B have a much higher chance of getting liver cancer. This is especially a problem among Asians and Asian Americans. It is estimated that one in 10 Asians are HBV carriers and one in 4 chronic HBV carriers will eventually die of liver cancer or liver disease if left untreated, or unmonitored. Unfortunately, many of us did not know about this fact. What is even more sad is that many of the HBV carriers did not know that there are several simple monitoring tests they can ask from their doctors. Instead, they left the disease unmonitored until it was too late. This coming Saturday, we expect to have 300-400 people to join us. I am very excited. According to the statistics, as many as 10 people's lives will be saved because of the knowledge we learn. I hope all of you will join us for this meaningful, life-saving event.

I will be here after the service to take your registration and answer any question that you may have. Thank you again for your attention." *3

"Dear Dr. Lei, It was my great honor to meet you last Sunday. Thank you so much for your support for the event, which I believe is going to benefit a lot of us," wrote Dr. Ingrid Ou to Washington Business and Technology Institute on January 10, 2007.

"Dear Belinda: May God bless your wonderful work and serving heart. At the beginning of year 2007, I felt that God wants me to examine my past failures so that I know where I fall and what can I do to grow in Christ; just like the Israelites during the Deuteronomy time. Therefore by attending your class God reminded me that He is a God of covenant and promise. He is a faithful God that will never forsake me and will guide me through the wilderness just as He guides Israel. I look forward to more classes to learn of God’s Words and Works so that I can live in God’s promise land. Thank you so much and may God pour out His double blessings upon you. Rebecca," wrote Miss Rebecca Pang again for this article to WBTI on February 2, 2007.*5

Congratulating UNLV on the opening of their first international campus
By Dr. Ng Eng Hen and Jennifer Kung

"I am in Singapore with the new president Dr. Ashely of UNLV and Dean with 12 faculties. We have a great time in Singapore. I am here to learn the Singapore model. Mr. Roger's assistant Francisco is here in Singapore too. I think that UNLV's Tour and Hotel Management will do good in Greater China. Dean Dr. Mann of Hotel Management will visit Taiwan on August 4th. I am arranging him to meet with Mayor Ma, Vice President, and EETV news interview for 30 mines. It should be a good publicity for UNLV. I plan to visit Shanghai and Beijing with the Dean and the President in November.
Best Regards,
Charlyne," wrote Miss Charlyne Chen to Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).*1

Miss Charlyne Chen is Chairperson of the International Cities Business Council of WBTI. We have inspired some activities of the associations in Las Vegas being national and international.*2

The following is a SPEECH BY DR NG ENG HEN, MINISTER FOR MANPOWER AND SECOND MINISTER FOR DEFENCE, AT THE GRAND OPENING OF UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS?FIRST INTERNATIONAL CAMPUS, ON 2 AUGUST 2006, 11.00AM, AT NATIONAL LIBRARY BUILDING LEVEL 10:

Your Excellency Patricia L Herbold, US Ambassador to Singapore
Dr. Andy Nazarechuk, Dean, University of Nevada Las Vegas ?Singapore Campus
UNLV Delegates,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It gives me great pleasure to join you this morning for the opening ceremony. We are delighted that UNLV has chosen to site its first overseas campus in Singapore. This campus will further develop our goal to be a Global Schoolhouse. Through the UNLV, Singaporeans and others in this region can acquire specialised qualifications to advance their careers in the Tourism sector.*3

Singapore the Global Schoolhouse

The Global Schoolhouse Initiative started in 2002 is succeeding. Through Economic Development Board’s efforts, 16 leading foreign universities are located here. 70,000 international students currently study in these institutions. EDB is confident that we are on track to attract 150,000 international students by 2015. This will increase the education sector's contribution to 5% of Singapore's GDP.

But these leading foreign Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) like UNLV generate other significant spin-offs apart from their economic contributions. Talent and new concepts follow Capital and will accelerate our development, to help us do things better. We remember how MNCs who invested in Singapore in the 70s shortened our learning curve in manufacturing industries. Similarly these IHLs bring in with them their pedagogical culture, their staff and students that will introduce new ideas and perspectives to add vibrancy to Singapore as a Global City.*4

International students will augment our talent base and will find it easy to join the many leading local companies or some 7,000 MNCs in Singapore. When they go home, these students can become ambassadors for Singapore to spread and enhance our reputation as a knowledge and economic node of Asia.

Our strategy to build a broad range of top IHLs is taking shape. Today, Singapore has internationally recognised course offerings ranging from digital animation, arts and fashion, culinary arts, to luxury brand management and hospitality. Some world-class specialised institutions here include the Johns Hopkins' Peabody Institute and DigiPen Institute of Technology. Johns Hopkins?Peabody Institute, America’s first conservatory of music, had collaborated with National University of Singapore (NUS) to establish the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. The DigiPen Institute of Technology, which is the first school in the world to offer a specialised programme in videogames and ranks as the top video game university in Electronic Gaming Monthly, will be coming to Singapore next year.

UNLV Singapore will add to this menu of choices for students. They will offer the Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel Administration programme from September 2006 and the Executive Masters in Hospitality Administration programme from November 2006 - the first time such courses are made available in Singapore.

Singapore the Tourism Hub

UNLV’s presence here is opportune as tourism in this region is growing fast. In Singapore alone, visitor arrivals for the first half of the year increased by over 500,000, or close to 12% compared to the same period last year. Analysts project that we will be a leading venue for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE), having hosted some of the high signature events, like the 117th International Olympics Committee (IOC) session and the International Textile and Machinery Association (ITMA) Asia Exhibition last year. Next month, we will be hosting the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Group with 16,000 delegates.

We also have a strong pipeline of Tourism investments, such as the two Integrated Resorts; hotel developments such as The Amara Sentosa, St. Regis, Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Hotel, and F&B outlets such as St James Power Station and Dempsey Global Village.

These developments have not been lost on Singaporeans who have responded with strong interests in careers in the hospitality sector. The Government will collaborate with partners like the UNLV to help train and prepare locals to make the most of employment opportunities. Besides the Bachelor and Executive Masters programmes, an Advanced Certificate course in MICE will also be developed by the UNLV with the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). These certificates will be widely accepted by industry players as they are aligned to WDA’s Tourism Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) system and done in collaboration with the Singapore Association of Conference and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS). The programme aims to train 100 MICE executives over two years.

Conclusion

I understand that UNLV has also been collaborating with our Polytechnics, the Tourism Academy@Sentosa and The Singapore International Hotel and Tourism College (SHATEC). With these collaborations and tie-ups, UNLV has strategically positioned itself to be a key provider of higher education in hospitality. These developments and initiatives speak well of the management of UNLV and also signal their serious intent to grow its base and reach out to the broader base of students in the region. I congratulate Dr Andy Nazarechuk for having started very well. They are well placed to succeed.
Let me conclude by congratulating UNLV on the opening of their first international campus. I also wish them success in all their endeavours and fruitful partnerships with our local institutions.*5

Thank you.

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Thank you for your prayers. The by pass surgery that Sister MengPei's brother-in-law had yesterday morning went very well. Like what she said "It is amazing, Doctor replaced four arteries in his heart." We all know our God is an awesome God.

Please continuly remember him in your prayers, may he get a speedy recovery from the surgery and pray for his salvations as well.

Love In Christ,
