During a rehearsal at th Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, the great Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini offered a few words of constructive criticism to featureed soloist.
The Soloist, too proud to accept help, expressed her anger by exploding, "I am the star of this peroformance!" Toscanini responded calmly but with firm conviction. "Madam," he said, "in this performance there are no stars!"

WHEREAS, it is an honor and privilege of the Board of County Commissioners to recognize those extraordinary individuals, groups, or programs which enrich the lives of many in our community; and

Whereas, Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) and its Advisory Board and Faculty Members established the Pan Pacific and Asian American Forum (PPAAF) in September 28, 2001 to pay a special tribute to U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. It has operated the Literature and Academic Forum (LAF) since 1999. The mission of the two forums is to promote the business and academic cooperation and development among Nevada, Taiwan, China, and Asian countries; and

Whereas, through its effort and integrity, WBTI has successfully cosponsored the Annual Thai Performing Appreciation Day for more than 12 years to enrich the elegancy and diversification of cultural, benevolent, art, and political activities and programs; and

Whereas, the WBTI has also been an active participant in sponsoring events with Seniors United, Asian Republicans of Clark County (Asian American Republican Coalition of Nevada-Clark County), and the Taiwan Benevolent Association of America;

Whereas, To promote the educational and business cooperation and development among the Eastern and Southern Asian Countries and Nevada, WBTI's President Dr. Tony Lei has designed educational programs of the CPM and MBA/PKE with Dr. Keong Leong; the CMPA and MPA/SME with Dr. Lee Bernick; and the CEH with Dr. William Thompson for the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of WBTI; and

NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Board of County Commissioners of Clark County, on this occasion, July 30, 2005, in celebration and recognition of its distinguished professionalism and outstanding accomplishments, do hereby recognize and honor

Go back to the classroom to expand your education. Best of Pepperdine Campus Series is taking learning on the road, visiting each of the graduate campuses to give you exclusive access to elite scholars, Pepperdine professors, and alumni at the top of their field. Register.

This month, learn from faculty expert Craig Detweiler, director of the Center for Entertainment, Media, and Culture, and featured entertainment panelists: on May 4, at the Westlake Graduate Campus with Brad Starkey ('88), Partner Jerry Johnson and Associates and on May 12 at the West Los Angeles Graduate Campus with Dylan Wiley ('98), president, Pepperdine Entertainment Network.

Later this year plan to visit one of Pepperdine's five campuses for lectures featuring Pepperdine's Center for Sustainability and Boone Center for the Family. These events are made possible by Liberty Mutual.

St. John's Bible Heritage Edition Exhibit

Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu Campus
Created by expert artists and calligraphers, the St. John~{!/~}s Bible Heritage Edition is the first illuminated, handwritten Bible of its size to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in more than 500 years. One volume from the Heritage Edition will be on display, along with framed art representing the other volumes. A second volume will be on display in the Payson Library Special Collections Reading Room, along with displays of rare Bibles and hymnals. More...
