***** There can be no doubt that our state and nation are facing an economic crisis worse than we could have ever imagined. Our state has a revenue shortfall of more than $2 billion or 37%, the highest percentage in the nation.

In Carson City , we are working hard to help Nevadans weather this economic crisis, to make changes in the way our state operates so we never find ourselves in these dire economic straits again, and to take steps to help solve real problems facing Nevadans.

Let me fill you in on a few things we are doing for senior citizens.

First, we are carefully reviewing the Governor’s proposed budget to determine what we can cut, what we can reform and what we must save. We have found many of the proposed cuts unacceptable, including cuts to health care and senior services and programs with a track record of success at keeping seniors in their own homes and out of nursing homes.

We are also enacting new patient safeguards in the aftermath of last year’s Hepatitis C health care crisis in Southern Nevada . These measures include improved inspections and licensing requirements for doctors?offices and clinics, more authority for the Health Division to respond to a health care crisis and temporarily close unsafe facilities, and whistleblower protection for nurses and doctors who report unsafe practices.

We are also moving forward on an innovative program to keep seniors in their own homes called PACE, which is short for Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly.

The PACE program works to give seniors more choices by combining federal Medicare dollars with state Medicaid funds or an individual’s own personal resources to deliver more comprehensive services to seniors.

These services might include adult day care, home-based meals, prescription drugs and even recreational therapy to promote quality of life for seniors struggling to remain independent.

GOVERNOR SUPPORTS RURAL NEVADA
Federal government must work with Elko and White Pine counties
before closing roads

(Carson City, Nevada) ?Governor Jim Gibbons today sent a letter to the U.S. Forest Service regarding its proposed plan to potentially close miles of roads in Elko and White Pine counties in Northern Nevada.

“Closing these roads limits public access to publicly owned land,?Gibbons said, “Part of the uniqueness of Northern Nevada includes ranchers, farmers and others living in isolated areas. Part of what we love about Nevada is the open space where we can go camping, hiking, fishing and hunting. These roads exist because they are needed and they are utilized.?
The U.S. Forest Service issued a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Mountain City, Ruby Mountains and Jarbidge combined Travel Management Plan in Elko County and a portion of northern White Pine County. Under the DEIS, many miles of rural roads in Northern Nevada would be closed resulting in many “roadless?areas in Elko and White Pine counties. The plan will have devastating economic, cultural and social impacts to these areas.

I welcome today’s action by the Iraqi Federal Supreme Court certifying the results of the national election. Voter turnout in the March 7th vote was strong across Iraq’s 18 provinces. Iraq’s electoral commission and security forces successfully organized and carried out a credible and competitive election. Since then, the electoral commission has worked in a careful, professional way to bring the process to this concluding point. This experience demonstrates that Iraqis want to use the political process to choose their leaders and settle differences.

With the election results officially certified, we call on Iraq's political leaders to move forward without delay to form an inclusive and representative government that will work on behalf of the Iraqi people.

In the coming months, we will work together as our partnership continues its transition with the goal of building a robust and long-lasting relationship between our two nations ?a partnership that will contribute to growing peace and prosperity in Iraq and stability in the Middle East.

P.C., among others invited me as the Senior Advisor. I may use my experience to work for our homeowners and residents. I received my M.B.A. and Ed.D. in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California, but my knowledge and experience will be also important for me to service our community together with my sincere and humble personal traits.
