Judy and Tony were very sad to learn yesterday (8/04/07) evening that U. S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao's mother Mrs. Ruth Mu-lan Chu Chao passed away in the afternoon on August 2, 2007. President George Bush called Elaine's family twice. In comforting, George reminded her father Dr. James S. C. Chao, Chairman of Foremost Group that, "Elaine is the one who serves the longest time as a Secretary of U. S. Department."

Dr. John Wang, Spokesman of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) announced on November 27, 2001:
"Pan Pacific and Asian American Forum was established by WBTI web (http://communitylink.reviewjournal.com/lvrj/wbti) which is brought to you by Las Vegas Review-Journal to pay a special tribute to U. S. Secretary Honorable Elaine Chao on September 28, 2001. The Forum also will hold its second year "Pan Pacific and Asian American Cultural Concert" at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino Event Center in Las Vegas next Spring. It will be presented by State of Nevada, WBTI, and 1NetBroadcast Inc. U. S. Senator John Ensign and U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley will be the Chairpersons of the Event. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of the Republic of Philippines and professional leaders of several field of expertise from many countries will attend the event. More than 3,700 people will participate the concert. The whole program will be produced for TV show which will reach 100 million families all around the world. A dinner party was held by the President of 1NetBroadcast Inc. Dallas Tanner for a tribute to Dr. and Mrs. Tony Lei for their contribution and support to the Event and show party on October 22, 2001 at the Showroom of the Venetian in Las Vegas. The theme of the Event was 'Lights of Las Vegas' Symbolizes One Nation under God . The dinner party on October 27, 2001 at the Sienna Cafe of Suncoast Casino and Hotel was highlighted by the Letter of Appreciation from the Incorporation which was presented by Tanner and 1Net Broadcast Vice President Margie Dikit to Dr. Lei who is the President of WBTI."
As the Director of Nevada Manufacturing Research Center of UNLV, Dr. Wang is also the Advisor of the Student and Scholar Association of UNLV. He has received great encouraagement by the Ambassador and General Conuselor Offices of
China to the United States for their participation of the Event.
At the age of 19, Eleine Chao was elected as a Scholar of the U. S. White House. U. S. Labor Secretary Chao was Chairperson of Federal Air Transportation, Vice President of Bank of American Main Office. In addition, she has contributed many years of community service and charity endeavor notably, as President of United Way, President of Peace Corps, and Senior Fellow of Heritage Foundation.
Secreatary Chao received her B. A. degree in Economics with straight A for all her four years at the famous Mount Holyoke College in New England. She obtained her M. B. A. degree from Harvard University in 1979. She has received 12 of her Honorary Doctorate degrees. She was married to U. S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky of the third term) in 1993. At the time she was nominated by President Bush as the Secretary of Labor, she told her father that she was not intend to be an "Authoritative Official". She hoped that she could contribute to our society and nation.

Elaine Chao, the 24th U. S. Secretary of Labor who served from 2001-2009, is the first American woman of Asian descent to be appointed to a President��s Cabinet in our nation��s history. She is the longest tenured Secretary of Labor since World War II, and the only member of President Bush��s original cabinet to have served the entire eight years of his Administration.

An immigrant who arrived in America at the age of eight speaking no English, Secretary Chao��s experience transitioning to a new country has motivated her to dedicate most of her professional life to ensuring that all people have the opportunity to build better lives.

As the first U. S. Secretary of Labor in the 21st century, Elaine L. Chao focused on improving the competitiveness of America��s workforce by restructuring department programs to empower workers and modernizing regulations to respond to the realities of the 21st century workplace. Under her leadership, the U.S. Department of Labor achieved record results in protecting the health, safety, wages, and retirement security of the nation��s workforce.

Secretary Chao��s distinguished career spans the public, private and non-profit sectors. As President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way of America, she restored public trust and confidence in one of our nation��s premier charitable institutions after it had been tarnished by financial mismanagement and abuse. As Director of the Peace Corps, she established the first programs in the newly liberated Baltic nations and the independent states of the former Soviet Union. Her government service also includes serving as Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, Deputy Maritime Administrator, and White House Fellow. Prior to her government service, she was Vice President of Syndications at BankAmerica Capital Markets Group and a banker with Citicorp in New York.
