"If you are active with the American Educational Research Association (AERA) you are probably aware of elections for positions of leadership that are underway. You may not know that some of our current Pepperdine doctoral candidates are on the ballot this year," one of the websites for GSEP of Pepperdine University posted.*6 "As a courtesy, I am sending information to you at the request of one of the candidates for Chair-Elect of the Graduate Student Council for AERA. I hope that this will assist you in making your selection."

"Bradford Davey is an Ed.D. Doctoral candidate at Pepperdine University in Educational Technology studying online learning and its potential for individualization towards knowledge construction, especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education. Brad earned his M.A. in Educational Technology from Pepperdine after teaching middle and high school math and science for 9 years, becoming department head and helping to spearhead a program to rewrite the science curriculum for grades 5-8," the Website continued its post.*7 "Author, avid Web 2 participant, and research associate in educational consulting, Brad works on national level educational program evaluation helping organizations like NASA and NOAA align their beliefs and goals with their actions. A presenter at AERA 2008 in NYC, member of Division C and multiple SIGs, as well as being recently accepted to speak at the 2009 annual conference, Brad demands of himself and others a high level of personal and professional excellence. Additional membership in NSTA, ASCD and PDK helps connect Brad with a broader community of educators concerned with a wide range of educational issues, all concerned with the advancement of educational understanding and practice."

One week from today, on January 19th, Barack and I will join thousands of people all across the country for an extraordinary day of service.*44777

Whatever service activity you organize or take part in -- cleaning up a park, giving blood, volunteering at a homeless shelter, or mentoring an at-risk youth -- you can help start this important journey. But this is about more than just a single day of service, it's the beginning of an ongoing commitment to your community.

Monday, January 19th, is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King taught us to live a life of service, and he led by example. He once said:

"If you want to be important -- wonderful. If you want to be recognized -- wonderful. If you want to be great -- wonderful. But, recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That's a new definition of greatness."

Seniors United was Created as an inspirational medium for seniors. It's purpose is to educate, promote and protect the rights of seniors.

The needs of seniors differ from younger citizens.

It is important to have an organization devoted to our place in the community and to promote it~{!/~}s continued growth.

The members of Seniors United want to share experiences with others.

Nonpartisan and nonsectarian, we are very actively involved in the political structure of our state and country.

Forums are varied to benefit the needs of the community and to discuss political issues. Guest speakers come from all areas.
