Dress it in whatever garb you please, ignorance is not attractive. Neither is it the mark of humility nor the path to spirituality. It certainly is not the companion of wisdom. On the contrary, it is the breeding ground for fear, prejudice, and superstition . . . the feeding trough for unthinking animals . . . the training field for slavery. It is blind and naked (Tennyson), the mother of impudence (Spurgeon), it brings despairing darkness (Shakespeare), never settles a question (Disraeli), nor promotes innocence (Browning). And yet it remains the favorite plea of the guilty, the excuse of the lazy---and even the Christian's rationalization for immaturity. ***** "... ....... ." ---??? *44777 We dare not fall into that trap! Our spiritual fathers didn't. Trace your heritage back to Moses and you find that the people were given the Truth of God in written form that they might know and that their children might know the right path to follow. In Samuel's day, a school of the prophets was formed to dispel the ignorance among the people. This philosophy carried into the New Testament as Jesus frequently rebuked His listeners for not reading, not knowing the underlying principles for living. How often Paul expressed similar convictions with such strong words as, "I do not want you to be unaware." Associated Press Writers Ron Fournier And Trevor Tompson, Associated Press Writers ?2 hrs 55 mins ago }} WASHINGTON ?For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public's mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future. Intensely worried about their personal finances and medical expenses, Americans nonetheless appear realistic about the time Obama might need to turn things around, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. It shows most Americans consider their new president to be a strong, ethical and empathetic leader who is working to change Washington. Nobody knows how long the honeymoon will last, but Obama has clearly transformed the yes-we-can spirit of his candidacy into a tool of governance. His ability to inspire confidence ?Obama's second book is titled "The Audacity of Hope" ?has thus far buffered the president against the harsh political realities of two wars, a global economic meltdown and countless domestic challenges. "He presents a very positive outlook," said Cheryl Wetherington, 35, an independent voter who runs a chocolate shop in Gardner, Kan. "He's very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken." But other AP-GfK findings could signal trouble for Obama as he approaches his 100th day in office, April 29: _While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy, 65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job. _More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling. _Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue. And yet, the percentage of Americans saying the country is headed in the right direction rose to 48 percent, up from 40 percent in February. Forty-four percent say the nation is on the wrong track. Not since January 2004, shortly after the capture of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, has an AP survey found more "right direction" than "wrong direction" respondents. So far, Obama has defied the odds by producing a sustained trend toward optimism. It began with his election. But he is aware that his political prospects are directly linked to such numbers. If at the end of his term the public is no more assured that Washington is competent and accountable and that the nation is at least on the right track, his re-election prospects will be doubtful. "I will be held accountable," Obama said a few weeks into his presidency. "You know, I've got four years. ... If I don't have this done in three years, then there's going to be a one-term proposition." The AP-GfK poll suggests that 64 percent of the public approves of Obama's job performance, down just slightly from 67 percent in February. President George W. Bush's approval ratings hovered in the high 50s after his first 100 days in office. But Obama also has become a somewhat polarizing figure, with just 24 percent of Republicans approving of his performance ?down from 33 percent in February. Obama campaigned on a promise ?just as Bush had ?to end the party-first mind-set that breeds gridlock in Washington. Obama is not the first president who sought to tap the deep well of American optimism ?the never-say-die spirit that Americans like to see in themselves. Even as he briefly closed the nation's banks, Franklin Delano Roosevelt spoke in the first days of his presidency of the "confidence and courage" needed to fix the U.S. economy. "Together we cannot fail," he declared. "When Obama came in," said D.T. Brown, 39, a Mount Vernon, Ill., radio show host who voted against Obama, "it was just a breath of fresh air." Others said their newfound optimism had nothing to do with Obama, but rather with an era of personal responsibility they believe has come with the economic meltdown. "I think people are beginning to turn in that direction and realize that there's not always going to be somebody to catch them when things fall down," said Dwight Hageman, 66, a retired welder from Newberg, Ore., who voted against Obama. The AP-GfK Poll was conducted April 16-20 by GfK Roper Public Affairs and Media. It involved telephone interviews on landline and cell phones with 1,000 adults nationwide. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. ___ Associated Press News Survey Specialist Dennis Junius and AP writer Christine Simmons contributed to this report. >>>>> ---??? *4477777 ------------------------------

While I was home in Nevada, we received word that our states unemployment rate has risen to 10.4 percent. Combine this with our foreclosure problem and declining tourism and you get a pretty clear picture of the challenges confronting our state. I am doing everything I can to help create jobs in our state, keep people in their homes and improve the economy. The $1.5 billion I helped bring to Nevada will help create thousands of jobs in Nevada in a variety of fields. The omnibus appropriations bill brought another $100 million to our state to fund important projects and create even more jobs over the coming months. We have also been making important investments in renewable energy so Nevada can become the leader in the clean energy revolution. These energy projects create jobs right here in our state, jobs that come from our plentiful natural resources like wind, sunshine, and geothermal energy. These resources wont run out, and these jobs wont leave Nevada. CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO WATCH THE VIDEO: On Wednesday, I hosted a conference call from my home in Searchlight. I spoke with more than 20,000 Nevadans, sharing with them what is happening in Washington, DC and taking questions on a variety of issues. On Tuesday, I hosted a Town Hall meeting in Las Vegas, after I had the honor of commissioning Nevadas first wind turbine. We discussed our states clean energy future, the jobs it will create and the diversity it will bring to our states economy so were not relying too heavily on one industry. Later on Tuesday, I hosted a Childrens Summit in Las Vegas with hundreds of non-profit organization leaders from around our state. We talked about ways to improve the lives of Nevadas children by improving education and access to health care. On Wednesday afternoon, I toured renewable energy and agriculture projects at the greenhouses at the University of Nevada, Reno. One biomass project focused on converting algae to biofuels, a solar retrofit project being done with NV Energy, and an alternative crop project where lettuce is grown using hydroponic methods. Later on Wednesday, I had the honor of presenting Sparks resident Robert McBride with his long-overdue Purple Heart. On Thursday, I hosted a workshop in Las Vegas to help Nevadans get their fair share of the Economic Recovery funds. More than 1,400 small business owners, workers, health care providers, energy entrepreneurs, construction workers and others attended this meeting along with 40 representatives from federal agencies and all of my senior policy staff. This plan will create or save 34,000 jobs in Nevada, and I want to make sure that everyone in our state knows how to take advantage of this opportunity. As you may know, today is Earth Day. While millions of people will celebrate our efforts to keep our planet clean, it is also an opportunity to focus on creating good-paying jobs in Nevada by investing in clean renewable energy. Thank you for reading this update. I am working hard every day to use what power I have in Washington to help Nevada, to strengthen our states economy, and hopefully to make life a little better for everyone in the Silver State. Insight for Today!!Wednesday, April 22, 2009 4:00 AM From: This sender is DomainKeys verified "Insight for Living" {c+ifl@trusted-sender.convio.net} Add sender to Contacts To: tojulei@yahoo.com April 22, 2009 Insensitivity, Part Two by Charles R. Swindoll *1002 1 Peter 4:8 We've been talking about the tragedy of insensitivity in relationships. Parental sensitivity rates desperately low these days. It's part of the fall-out of our rapid pace. Solomon tells us that our children "make themselves known" by their deeds, their actions. He then reminds us that we have ears and eyes that ought to hear and see (Proverbs 20:11-12). But again, it takes time to do that. And again, we're "too busy." ***** "... ....... ." ---??? *1006 Let's think that over. A basic task you accepted when you became a parent was the building of self-esteem and confidence into your offspring. Without coming out and saying it, they look to you to help them know how to believe in themselves, feel worthwhile, valuable, secure in a threatening world. In dozens of ways they drop hints that ask for help. The sensitive parent spots the hint, deciphers the code, and wisely brings reinforcement. In his fine book Hide or Seek, Dr. James Dobson lists the five most common barriers that cause our children to doubt their worth---even when they are deeply loved. The first barrier on the list is "parental insensitivity." Our challenge is to counteract the world's value system, which requires of our little ones either high intelligence or physical attractiveness. It's impossible to shut out this value system entirely, but we must keep things in proper perspective---especially if our kiddos are neither smart nor beauties! Failure to do so can easily result in struggles with inferiority. The key, I repeat, is sensitivity---tuning into the thoughts and feelings of our kids, listening to the clues they give us, and reacting appropriately. The sensitive heart rubs its fingers along the edges, feeling for the deep cracks . . . the snags . . . taking the time to hear . . . to care . . . to give . . . to share. <<< President Barack H. Obama's calling up!! [To be completed ... ] >>> Obama urges citizens to undertake national service AP ?President Barack Obama works with volunteers as he and the first lady plant a tree while participating ?By ANN SANNER, Associated Press Writer Ann Sanner, Associated Press Writer ?28 mins ago WASHINGTON ?Calling on Americans to volunteer, President Barack Obama signed a $5.7 billion national service bill Tuesday that triples the size of the AmeriCorps service program over the next eight years and expands ways for students to earn money for college. "What this legislation does, then, is to help harness this patriotism and connect deeds to needs," said Obama, a former community organizer in Chicago. ***** "... ....... ." ---??? *7007 "It creates opportunities to serve for students, seniors and everyone in between," he said. "And it is just the beginning of a sustained, collaborative and focused effort to involve our greatest resource ?our citizens ?in the work of remaking this nation." Joining Obama was Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who has been battling brain cancer. Kennedy championed the legislation with Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and the bill was named in honor of the Massachusetts Democrat. Kennedy told the audience that included former President Bill Clinton, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former first lady Rosalyn Carter that Obama's efforts echoed those of his late brother, President John F. Kennedy. "Today, another young president has challenged another generation to give back to their nation," Kennedy said, citing his brother's advocacy for the Peace Corps. The service law expands ways for students and seniors to earn money for college through their volunteer work. It aims to foster and fulfill people's desire to make a difference, such as by mentoring children, cleaning up parks or buildings and weatherizing homes for the poor. "I'm asking you to help change history's course, put your shoulder up against the wheel," Obama said. "And if you do, I promise you your life will be richer, our country will be stronger, and someday, years from now, you may remember it as the moment when your own story and the American story converged, when they came together, and we met the challenges of our new century." Bolstering voluntary public service programs has been a priority of Obama, who credits his work as a community organizer in his early 20s for giving him direction in life. The president cited his work in Chicago as an example of how one person can make a difference. "All that's required on your part is a willingness to make a difference," Obama said. "And that is, after all, the beauty of service: Anybody can do it." Obama visited the SEED School of Washington, a public boarding school that serves inner-city students facing problems in both the classroom and at home, for the signing ceremony. Afterward, Obama and first lady Michelle Obama joined Clinton to plant trees at a national park site along the Anacostia River in northeast Washington. At the Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens, Obama rolled up his sleeves with volunteers from the Student Conservation Association and local public high schools. "Somebody forgot my boots," Obama joked to the students. Obama on Tuesday also nominated Nike Inc. vice president Maria Eitel to lead the federal agency that oversees the country's national service programs. Eitel, who's also president of the Nike Foundation, would have to be confirmed by the Senate to become CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. Congress passed the bill last month with largely bipartisan support and Obama is seeking $1.1 billion to fund it next year. Some Republicans complain it is too costly and is an unnecessary intrusion by government into something Americans already do eagerly and in great numbers ?helping their neighbors and communities. The legislation provides for gradually increasing the size of the Clinton-era AmeriCorps to 250,000 enrollees from its current 75,000. It outlines five broad categories where people can direct their service: helping the poor, improving education, encouraging energy efficiency, strengthening access to health care and assisting veterans. AmeriCorps offers a range of volunteer opportunities including housing construction, youth outreach, disaster response and caring for the elderly. Most receive an annual stipend of slightly less than $12,000 for working 10 months to a year. AmeriCorps has seen a recent surge in applications, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees the program. In March, the organization received 17,038 online AmeriCorps applications, nearly double those received in the previous month and nearly triple the 6,770 received last March. Alan Solomont, who chairs AmeriCorps' board, said former President John F. Kennedy's call to service inspired more people to help others than just those who joined the Peace Corps. He said this national service legislation could produce the same effect. "It is not unlike the moment in 1960 when President Kennedy asked Americans, you know, to serve, but it is certainly going to engage millions more today," Solomont said in a conference call arranged by the White House. The bill also ties volunteer work to money for college. People 55 and older could earn $1,000 education awards by getting involved in public service. Those awards can be transferred to a child, grandchild or even someone they mentored. Students from sixth grade through senior year of high school could earn a $500 education award for helping in their neighborhoods during a new summer program. ___ On the Net: AmeriCorps: http://www.americorps.gov Corporation for National and Community Service: http://www.nationalservice.gov Related Searches:first lady michelle obama president barack obama student conservation association disaster response signing ceremony Editors' notes ... ....... ... ....... ............ ---??? *447777 ------------------------------

Flag this message to WBTI Journal!! "We can no longer delay" Tuesday, April 21, 2009 10:20 AM From: "Steve Bouchard, The We Campaign" {info@wecansolveit.org} ^^^Add sender to Contacts To: "Tony Dr. Lei" [tojulei@yahoo.com] Dear Tony, "We can no longer delay putting a framework for a clean energy economy in place." Those were President Obama's words in last week's economic address when he adopted our call for closing of the carbon pollution loophole -- a critical step towards revitalizing our economy and repowering America. We've been running ads and talking to people across the country to raise awareness about the carbon pollution loophole. And by adopting our call, President Obama has demonstrated that he understands that a cap on carbon pollution will lead to rapid growth in clean energy investment -- growth that one recent study says could create 15,000 jobs in Nevada. And with Nevada's unemployment at a painful 10.0%, we know there is no time to waste. But without swift action from Congress, these jobs will be allowed to go elsewhere, as other nations continue to outpace us on progress towards a clean energy economy. Our leaders are debating crucial legislation right now. They need to know you stand with President Obama and millions of other Americans in calling for a clean energy economy and solutions to the climate crisis. Please watch the video of President Obama's address and call your Representative today: http://www.RepowerAmerica.org/action/congress/89128 Here's a script you can use: "Hi. This is [your name] from [your city, state]. I am calling to urge Representative Berkley to support the Clean Energy Jobs Plan. These are good jobs that can't be outsourced and increase our supply of clean, free energy. It will revitalize our economy and help solve the climate crisis. That's why, as a constituent, it is very important to me that my elected officials support the Clean Energy Jobs Plan. Thank you." Representative Berkley -- (202) 225-5965 (If the wrong Representative is listed, please call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 to get connected to the right office. Please let us know about the error by clicking here) After you make your call, click here to let us know how it went. It's time for America to lead again. It's time to close the carbon pollution loophole. Call Congress now: http://www.RepowerAmerica.org/action/congress/89128 Thanks, Steve Bouchard Campaign Manager -------------------------------
