About the Author Rory Reid:
Nevada Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid was raised in the Las Vegas Valley. Prior to Rory��s election to the Commission, he was active in government and his community. Rory served as a member of the Clark County Citizens Committee on Efficiency in Government and was a legislative aide in the United States House of Representatives. Rory has also served on the boards of various civic and charitable organizations.
[After growing up in Las Vegas, he attended Brigham Young University, where he earned his B.A. in International Relations and Spanish in 1985. Rory continued at BYU, attending the J. Reuben Clark Law School earning a J.D. in 1988. Rory returned to Nevada and began the practice of law. At the age of thirty, he became the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a local company. Rory was elected to the County Commission in 2002 to serve Commission District G. Rory was re-elected on November 7, 2006, to another four-year term. In January 2005, Rory was appointed by his colleagues as County Commission Chairman. Rory was re-elected by his colleagues on January 2, 2007, and will again serve as Commission Chairman.
Las Vegas Life Magazine recently named Rory ��Best Up and Coming Politician�� in Southern Nevada.
Rory has long been active in his community. He has donated his time to numerous local, state and national political campaigns. Dear Tony,
Today is the day that we officially observe the Veterans Day holiday ?an opportunity for all of us to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all of America�s veterans. Veterans Day was formerly known as Armistice Day, a holiday created to honor the end of World War One, which took place on November 11, 1918. Legislation declaring Armistice Day was �dedicated to the cause of world peace.��
Having been through World War II and the Korean War, Congress in 1954 amended the act creating the holiday, changing the name to �Veterans Day.? November 11th thus became a day to honor American veterans from every war. Veterans Day is that day when we honor not only our deceased veterans but thank and honor our living veterans who have served in the military during peace and war.
Without these brave men and women, along with the families that supported them throughout their military service, our nation could never be the beacon of freedom and hope that remains our ideal. �Thank you?seems hardly sufficient, and I have always made it a priority that Nevada provide the very best services possible for our fast-growing veterans population. I�m very proud that legislation I wrote in 2005 created the first-ever ombudsman position to reach out to women veterans who may not realize there is an array of services available to them through the Nevada Department of Veterans Affairs.

Dr. Dina Titus [Alice Costandina (Dina) Titus], a native of Georgia, was educated at William and Mary, University of Georgia and received her Ph. D. from Florida State University. She currently teaches Political Science at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. She is a Nevada State Senator from District 7 in Clark County. In 1999 she was the Nevada Arts Advocate of the Year. Her most recent publication is Bombs in the Backyard: Atomic Testing and American Politics. The title of Dr. Titus Convocation lecture, the Mushroom Cloud as an American Symbol, attests to the extensive knowledge she has concerning America nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site and the impact it has had on that region. Gibbons received the MacKay School of Mines Alumnus of the Year Award in 1999, and remains an active supporter of Nevada��s university and community college system. He also earned his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law and completed his post-graduate work at the University of Southern California. Born and raised in Sparks, Nevada, Governor Jim Gibbons was a former United States Congressman. Jim was first elected to represent Nevada's 2nd District in the House of Representatives in 1996. He was re-elected to a fifth term in November 2004. Prior to coming to Congress, Gibbons gained a distinguished military background. A former combat pilot and decorated veteran of both the Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars, Governor Gibbons served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 and graduated from the USAF Air Command and Staff College as well as the Air War College. Attaining the rank of Colonel, Gibbons joined the Nevada Air Guard in 1975, and served as the group's Vice Commander from 1990 through 1996. Jim Gibbons served three terms in the Nevada State Legislature and was named ��Outstanding Freshman Legislator��?his first year in 1988. By 1993, Gibbons rose through the ranks to become Republican Whip of the State Assembly. Jim Gibbons is Governor of Nevada starting from January 1, 2007. Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons is now Chairman of the Advisory Board of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).
