Robert Daskas has ended his campaign for Nevada's Congressional District Three. Robert is a fine man, a terrific candidate, and I know you join me in wishing him and his family all the best in his future endeavors.
Democratic national congressional leaders, including Nancy Pelosi, Shelley Berkley, and Harry Reid, have called on me to carry us to victory in CD 3. I am honored by their support, enthusiasm and confidence.
Everything I've been able to accomplish in the State Senate, such as property tax relief, stronger sex offender laws, and saving Red Rock from development, I've done with your help and encouragement. You've supported my unfinished fight to make Nevada a powerhouse in clean, renewable energy and to build an educational system we can be proud of.
The Republican attack machine will stop at nothing to hang on to CD3. We have seen how they turn accomplishments into negatives, distort voting records, and twist words. So we know it will take all of our best efforts to achieve victory in November.

Fight the right-wing smear machine

If what you're seeing feels familiar, it probably is.*2
Last week the maker of the Willie Horton ad released a new ad targeting Barack Obama.
John McCain tried to paint Democrats as the choice of Hamas.
A right-wing front group called 'Defense of Democracies' released an ad targeting specific House Democrats, claiming they had laid the country open to attack just because they had the patriotism and guts to stand up to the President's illegal wiretapping.
And we've all seen the "ad" the GOP is running in North Carolina which John McCain "denounces" but says he's helpless to stop. (And yes, the familiarity there is more than eerie.)
You know I've been through this before, and we learned the hard way how instantaneously and aggressively you have to act to stop smears dead in their tracks. Now, we can bemoan the areas we've fallen short doing this in the past, or we can fight back against every attempt by the right to smear Democrats. I've made my choice -- I'm committed to defending Democrats up and down the ballot -- and across the country -- against smears, and I'm dedicating my organization, Campaign For Our Country, to doing it. But I can't do it without your help.
