"It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought -- that is to be educated," Edith Hamilton.*17 Edith was a classicist and educator. She became a writer on mythology then. The "Greek Way" (1930) and "Mythology" (1942) were Edith Hamilton's two most famous books. Aristotle once pointed out, "All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth." *18 | |

Nevada Governor's Official Message Governor Jim Gibbons today ordered flags on state buildings be flown at half staff on Thursday, Sept. 11 in recognition of Patriot Day.*1 Through a joint resolution, Congress established September 11th of each year as Patriot Day as a way to remember and honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. 揥hile the terrorist attacks of 9/11 shook our country to the core, they also awoke the fundamental principles that sparked the creation of our nation and made the United States the greatest country on Earth,?Gibbons said. 揙n that terrible morning seven years ago, we saw the worst of what terrorists have to offer, but we also saw the best of what makes America great, the Governor said. 揅itizens rose up to help their neighbors in tremendous displays of bravery and heroism. As a nation we joined in prayer for the victims. And together, we strengthened our resolve to defend our nation and advance the cause of liberty across the globe.? 揙n Patriot Day 2008, I encourage all Nevadans to take a moment to remember what they felt seven years ago,?Gibbons said. 揟ime can make the intensity of memories fade, but as a nation and as a State we must be resolved in our dedication to the freedoms our country has provided us. As such, we must remember those who lost their lives on 9/11 in an attack on those very freedoms we hold so dear.? *2 II. III. Al Gore, a leading Distinguished Author of PPAA Forum <<< We have a choice! ***** Tuesday, September 9, 2008 11:38 AM ^^^From: "Al Gore, The We Campaign" {info@wecansolveit.org} Call your members of Congress NOW to demand new, clean energy. Take Action. Dear Tony, I need your help. Will you make a call? Congress will consider energy legislation this week. Of course, the oil industry is pushing its "drill, drill" slogan with all its might -- and some are hoping to use this for political advantage. Meanwhile, tax credits for investments in solar and wind power have not been extended, and the growing renewables business that just made America the largest producer of wind power in the world, is on the verge of shutting down huge planned projects all over the country. Billions in private investment, thousands of megawatts of new, clean energy, and more than 100,000 new jobs expected for 2009 will be lost. We face a stark choice: subsidize old, dirty energy or invest in new, clean energy. This should be easy, but the influence of the oil lobby is deep -- they've already spent more than $100 million in lobbying and advertising this year. Please call your members of Congress now and tell them to pass legislation that will Repower America. Washington is being diverted by all the political noise around "drill, drill" away from what really will make a difference -- building a new, clean energy future. Projects in the pipeline that will power millions of homes will be canceled, setting us back for years, if Congress doesn't do the right thing now. Congress needs to hear from all of us. August Recap: A Busy Month <<< Message from U.S. Senate Majority Leader and U.S. Senator Honorable Harry Reid August Recap: A Busy Month! By Harry M. Reid September 10, 2008 [Senator Harry Reid – Putting Nevada First] Dear Fellow Nevadan: The Senate recesses each August to give us more time to spend in our home states, talking with constituents about the issues that matter most to them, and to travel overseas and assess the situations abroad that affect our country’s security. Last month, I had a chance to do both and I want to share some of those experiences with you. I hope you’ll read on and contact me with your thoughts or questions.*7 Harry Reid U.S. Senator for Nevada [[[ It is certainly an honor to be acknowledged by you for my commitment to serving this community. I look forward to expanding my public service by working with you and the Institute to continue to better our community. You dedication is a wonderful example of what others should strive to accomplish," wrote Judge Natalie L. Tyrrell to President Dr. Tony T. Lei of WBTI. ]]] *02 ----------------------------- Visiting the Troops In early August I lead a week-long, multi-national Congressional delegation trip assessing our fight against terrorism, global climate change, development and democracy. My first stop was in Kyrgyzstan, where I met dozens of American troops including five Nevada Airmen at the Manas Coalition Air Base. We also visited wounded warriors at Landstuhl hospital in Germany and met with the outstanding medical staff who care for them. Our courageous troops there are combating terrorism and working to keep Americans safe, and it was an honor to meet with them. I also traveled to Afghanistan where I met with President Hamid Karzai and some of the nearly 34,000 U.S. soldiers serving there including many from Nevada. We must continue to work toward political reconciliation to help stabilize this entire region, and I discussed with President Karzai a number of issues affecting Afghanistan and what we must do to address them. The border separating Afghanistan and Pakistan remains the central front in the war against the terrorists who attacked us 7 years ago tomorrow. --------------------- On August 19, I co-hosted the National Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas along with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Center for American Progress Action Fund. I organized the summit in order to create an agenda that accelerates the development of renewable energy, energy-efficiency technologies and robust clean energy markets throughout the nation and world. It is so important to me that we find new sources of clean energy that will break our dependence on foreign oil and create new jobs and prosperity here in Nevada. I was joined by President Bill Clinton, governors and senators, mayors, Democrats and Republicans, business and labor leaders, scientists and innovators of cutting edge technology. Expanding the development of renewable energy is not a partisan issue, but one that both sides must work together to accomplish. The key findings from the summit were presented in both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions. ... {{{ "WBTI has built a sound foundation with its excellent and achieved faculty members. By Jennifer Kung To develop immaginative power, we must specialize in our own fields but be alert to new ideas from any source and continually seize and set down our inspirational flashes when they come to us. ---Carl Holmes*m1 ____________________________________________ ***** "Every great advance in science has issued from a new audacity (dare) of the imagination." ---John Dewey (*From 'The Quest For Certainty'.) Imagination is important for an individual and institution. It is the ability to perceive opportunity. Imagination may produce creativity. Creativity contributes profit and prosperity for an institution. Where imagination and innovation are encouraged, it floirish. Innovation is doing something different. Innovation comes from people and it requires insight. We are pleased to quote the following five short but meaningful ones: *** The most interesting people are the people with the most interesting pictures in their minds. ---Earl Nightingale *** Imagination is more important than knowledge. ---Albert einstein *** The human race is governed by its imagination. ---Napoleon *** Inspiration and imagination go hand in hand. ---Annonymous *** Every vital organization owes its birth and life to an exciting and daring idea. ---James B. Conant It's our pleasure to post a short story and quotation from "Speaker's Source Book" by Glenn Van Ekeren: What is serendipity? It is discovering something totally unrelated to the problem you are trying to solve. Call it an accident, dumb luck, or fate--serendipity has given our world great products, new hope, and better ways of doing things. Foe example, Columbus discovered America while searching for a route to India. It is said that the American Indians, finding no water for cooking, tapped a maple tree and made the first maple wyrup as the sap boiled down. Pioneers, traveling westward, stopped for water and found gold nuggets in a stream. These are all examples of serendipity. However, the classic example of serendipity must go to George Ballas. As George Ballas drove his car through a car wash, ... Why not use a nylon cord, whirling at high speed to trim the grass and weeds around trees and the house? Bingo! the Weedeater was born! ... Finally, in 1971, Ballas invested his own money in the first thirty- pound Weedeaster. ... Before long, Weedeater, Inc., grew into a multimillion-dollar international corporation. Yes, one idea can be worth a fortune. Weedeater, Inc., was born from a simple idea in a car wash. *m2 Do you believe Chairman of Apple Computer John Scully said that, "Innovation has never come through bureaucracy and hierarchy. It's always come from individuals"? "Adelson said Cotai and Macau will combine to make the Chinese region the Las Vegas of the Far East," posted the LVRJ on May 28, 2006. It was reported by Suzette Parmley, Inquirer Staff Writer.*m4 "Imagination disposes of everything; it creates beauty, justice, and happiness, which is everything in the world," said Blaise Pascal.*m5 Innovation is practical for a real need. It is not a random process. "When it works, it works because someone has identified a real need, and found a way to bring new ideas or new technologies to bear on that need," said Lewis W. Lehr. (Editor's notes) ....... .........................."To do a thing, (which is unimportant or can-do by laymen), obligatory for community service with oustanding and ingenious perseverance, will face automatic difficulties for the acceptance and resistance by our contemporaneousness. This had been inspired by Socrates and experienced by Edison. Nevertheless, once it is achieved as an innovation, other people may follow. To help initiate, promote, and prosper the search engines business in Information technology, the more they get richer the more we become leaner financially. This has been an exemplification again by the understanding of a famous American Consultant in leadership, John Maxwell; even they have become one of the resources of WBTI for serving. As an Institute which grows steadly by having great scholars without owning any great mansion mainly for community service, the elegant joy of serve-above-selve and the value of our fellowship are continuously increasing. It was said in a long time ago, the Trump has already tried to follow. About 37 years ago, writing college textbooks or best-sellers on Computer was hot. The best policy for a Professor or an Expert was to follow the slogan of "Show me please, and I'll believe!" Now, more people have a passion on innovation to show their traits and records of success and achievement by the world's leading search engines on Internet. To cope with the deadlock of "Privacy", "Quality, Ingenuity, and Integrity" will be the best policy! People can't let their (the search engines) business down in order to stimulate and diversify the international IT business' development and prosperity. To resume U. S. A. as a top leading country with our distinguished heritage of Freedom, Democracy, Entrepreneurship, and Judiciary on this beautiful earth, people in each and every field of expertise on the marketplace can contribute some fruits of fortune with endeavor diligently and ingeniously. Quality, integrity, and improvement are critical for the searching business in IT and WBTI's development and prosperity. Their missions sounds to people as one ingredient and ingenuity of the integration in Information Technology! Enriching our community service process were made possible by those friends who joined and supported this academic institute with enthusiasm. WBTI is really a chain of dedicated individuals who endeavor to research, serve, support, and to give. We take great pride of our people, including our outstanding faculty members. They are some of the best in the world with vision and commitment to public service and community involvement at an adjunct capacity. We're sincere servers to assist obligatory with very limited ability the improvement for the quality of life of all our residents and visitors of Nevada, California, Texas, and New York. Dr. Dina Titus pointed out one of our previous weeknesses, 'We searched for Services, Knowledge, and Wisdom without searching and asking for money.' We'll go ahead one step from the period of 'Forums' to an advanced period of 'Change with Improvement' on our Journey to Accomplishment. We'll listen to and imitate (Imitation is also a kind of innovation. Japan did try it. Japan made its miracle of 'Japan is the First!' partly on these study, learning, and finding.) from Dean Dr. Margaret J. Weber's creative project ('Philanhtropist') in the GSEP of Pepperdine University to honor our coming participants with a title of 'Philanhtropist of the Millennium'.
