新西蘭聯合報》發刊詞公共媒體公共化(摘要) (新西蘭) 文 揚 盛夏時節的奧克蘭，炎熱之中仍有一襲清風舞動，經過短短二十多天的籌辦，一份新的報紙與本地讀者見面了。為了凸顯這份報紙的公共化和當地語系化，取名為《新西蘭聯合報》。 讀者們將會看到，《新西蘭聯合報》是一份名副其實的聯合報，本地的網路媒體、廣播電視媒體、政治團體、宗教團體、文化藝術團體、社會公益團體、社區組織團體，包括奧克蘭地區以外的華文報紙和雜誌等，都將直接參與《新西蘭聯合報》版面的內容建設。對於《新西蘭聯合報》來說，它為所有希望在本地公共領域發出聲音的公眾開放了一個媒體平臺，而對各合辦方來說，則通過《新西蘭聯合報》這個平臺有了屬於自己的一個報紙媒體視窗。 公共媒體始終是與“公眾”這個觀念相聯繫的。在早期的歷史上，“公眾”是指在廣場上圍著演說家聽講的那一圈“聽者”，隨著印刷術出現之後，“公眾”開始指所有具有閱讀報紙和書籍習慣的“讀者”，進入電子媒體時代之後，“公眾”已經從被動的聽者和讀者轉變成了主動發表觀點和意見的“言說者”。《新西蘭聯合報》是電子媒體時代的紙張媒體，它的公眾讀者同時也是寫作者和言說者，是新時代的“新公眾”，這就是公共化的本質，這就是《新西蘭聯合報》之獨特。 本會上海代表吳易夢兩本新著出版 本會上海代表吳易夢長篇夢幻小說《古精藍城堡》，於2009年6月由人民文學出版社出版。該書奇特的構思、夢中有夢。大氣的文學手筆，豐富的故事內容、怪異瑰麗的想像、故事懸念迭出、一環扣一環、情節緊張富有情趣。小說以親切、優美生動的文筆，敘述了一個讓人浮想聯翩的夢幻故事。整部書內容，流淌著對自然世界的熱愛和對美好夢境的嚮往。《古精藍城堡》的出現，使中國本土作者在幻想小說領域創作，有了新的突破。 另一本吳易夢署名"拈花禪師"的心靈散文集《心靜自然禪》，近日由北京現代出版社出版。書中用精闢的哲思、恬淡的禪語，開解了78個人生必備的智慧法門。放下，用心，貌似是一對矛盾，其實是所有生命狀態的兩致。許多人活了一生才明白︰最高的人生智慧乃在放下與用心之間；全然放下或全然用心都不是人生。這是禪與人生的經驗結晶。(吳易夢供稿) 夏威夷大學演出多場 用英語譯唱的京劇<<白蛇傳>> 試想一下，一群洋人，穿著戲袍，在舞臺上，用英語來演唱中國傳統京劇劇目＜白蛇傳＞，會是怎樣一番景致。 這不是想像，是真事，而且這齣戲於2月5日，在夏威夷大學的甘迺迪劇院首演，並連續演出十多天。３０來名演員和１５名樂隊成員除兩名來自中國大陸和臺灣以外，其余全是學校戲劇系和音樂系的各國學生。 中國人用中文演唱義大利歌劇，人們早習以為常，並欣然接受，因為大多數人也沒聽過用義大利文演唱的效果，沒有對比。這些年來，隨著中外文化交流，來中國學習的留學生演唱京劇也不是罕事，但用英文來詮釋傳統劇目，那會是個什麼滋味？然而，夏大戲劇系已不是第一次上演英文版京劇。前幾年還演了＜鳳還巢＞，＜玉堂春＞，＜沙家浜＞，＜四郎探母＞，＜秦香蓮＞和＜鍘美案＞等。人們不禁要問，是誰開風氣之先，不怕折騰地將京劇全本翻譯成英文，來讓從未到過中國的洋青年學子在異國體驗唱、念、做、打呢？ 原來，戲劇系有一位教授叫魏莉莎（Elizabeth Wichmann-Walczak）。她是中國改革開放後南京大學迎接的第一批留學生，選擇了學習中國戲劇，對京劇可謂情有獨鍾。在戲劇大師梅蘭芳的嫡傳弟子沈小梅的門下學了數年後，於１９８１年在南京大學禮堂裡的畢業匯報演出時，以一齣＜貴妃醉酒＞轟動了整個江蘇。＂洋貴妃＂的美名不徑而走，從此魏莉莎便聞名大江南北。 畢業後，魏莉莎回到美國，在夏威夷大學戲劇舞蹈系任教。這位京劇迷將她所學的本領全帶了回來，並在系裡開墾京劇試驗地，播撒京劇種子，希望藉公開演出能將京劇這門獨特的藝術介紹到西方來。(陳艷群供稿) 本會新邀非馬和潘耀明先生任顧問 （本報訊）夏威夷華文作家協會成立至今十余年，一直得到海內外各地文化界人士的關注和支持。多年來我們陸續邀請了十多名學者，教授、著名作家及社會人士擔任作協顧問，得到他們的熱心指導和幫助。為了汲取更多不同的經驗，增強與世界其他地區的文化聯繫， 2010年新春伊始，我們特地誠意邀請香港《明報》月刊總編輯、香港作家聯會會長潘耀明先生和美國著名詩人非馬先生擔任本會顧問，並已獲得他們欣然答應。 2010年夏華作協樂捐名單 （本報訊）每逢踏入新年，本會在辭舊迎新之際都會收到一批熱心支援我們的顧問、會員、文友和社會人士的捐款，其中作協顧問謝信一教授、李明心教授，長期不懈地給予資助；作協成員高於晴、高裕庭、陳豔群、劉湘梅、葛逸凡，以及文友胡佩鏘等也是多年來樂於捐助的人士。數目無論多少，表達了他們的一片心意。在此我們表示衷心感謝！現將2010樂捐名單和數目公佈於下（截至2月24日）: 高于晴 380美元 高裕庭 330美元 謝信一 300美元 胡佩鏘 120美元 黃河浪 100美元 李明心 100美元 葉 芳 100美元 連 芸 100美元 陳艷群 100美元 劉湘梅 100美元 葛逸凡 60美元 本會代表林婷婷與劉慧琴共同主編 加拿大首部華文女作家作品集《漂鳥》出版 臺灣商務印書館於2009年12月出版了由加拿大華人文學學會策劃、夏威夷華文作家協會菲律賓和溫哥華代表林婷婷和劉慧琴共同主編的加拿大華文女作家作品集《漂鳥》。這本作品選集是首部以加拿大華文女作家為焦距，呈現加拿大華人移民生活縮影的文集，也可以説是在始於二十世紀八O代新一波的移民潮中，以文學的形式記錄下來的移民史。該書選入了加國東西兩岸包括葉嘉瑩教授、朱小燕、張翎、曾曉文、李彥等五十位知名作家的散文及小說。 兩位主編在該書的『跋』介紹，自上世紀以來，加拿大是華人移民越來越重要的一個國家，華人在這塊土地上適應、奮鬥和成長，從漂流異鄉到落地生根的過程，都精彩地記錄在華文學作品裡。而加拿大華文女作家們無論是作為職業婦女或人妻人母，在這個大社會裡都扮演著深具影響力的角色，對中華文化在異地的傳承有一定的貢獻。 由於女性細膩的觀察和敏銳的感悟，她們的作品呈現的也正是在加拿大這第二家園華人的生活縮影。她們將在多元社會有笑有淚的人生經歷或濃墨重彩、或細言絮語通過作品呈現在讀者面前。這本作品選集的作者有來自大陸、臺灣、港澳和東南亞移民加國作家的作品，不但是她們創作成績的一個共同櫥窗，更展現了加拿大多元文化以及加華『新移民文學』的風貌。 《漂鳥》主編林婷婷是曾活躍於菲華文壇的知名作家，劉慧琴則是加華資深作家及編輯。移民加拿大的臺灣名詩人及任臺灣聯合報副刊主編多年的作家瘂弦為該書作序，首次提出了『使華文文壇成為世界大文壇』的構想，賦予該文集更宏觀的意義。多倫多約克大學徐學清教授在該書『前言』中有精闢專業的作品評論，賦予《漂鳥》一定的文學藝術價值。可上網www.cptw.com.tw 察看購買。（加拿大華人文學學會） 上海詩人李天靖新詩集《秘密》出版 上海詩人李天靖新結集的詩集《秘密》，2009年11月由上海文藝出版社出版，全書共收詩作150余首，分為十四輯。作者在《後記》中說：“詩集<秘密>是我14年的詩選，選我的老師朋友們喜愛的作品。”書前有著名詩人白樺的序《風月無邊》及朱金晨的《詩人李天靖畫象》，對李的詩藝及為人作了簡明而生動的介紹。書後並附有李天靖詩歌創作年表。 雲南詩人鴿子詩集《一個人的煉金術》出版 雲南詩人鴿子又一本新詩集《一個人的煉金術》作為王洪林主編的“百花文叢”之一種，2009年12月由北京大眾文藝出版社出版，共收作者踏入新世紀以來的詩作100首。書前有著名詩評家劉士傑的序《體味童真與滄桑》，對詩中從童年到成年，從童真到滄桑的意象有深入分析。 余 光 中 八 十 嵩 壽 巡 禮 (重慶) 胡明蓉 余光中，八十年前誕生在茱萸飄香的“重九”。二十歲發表第一首詩《沙浮投海》，瀟灑遨遊詩歌、散文、評論、翻譯“四度空間”， 創作生涯超過一甲子，是全球華文文學界最耀眼的巨星之一。 那一天，臺灣藝文界齊聚臺北慶祝余光中八十大壽，鍾鼎文、蔡文甫、陳芳明等上百位文藝界重量級人士蒞臨。 著名作家楊照致開場白：“不管社會怎麼變動，余先生的詩一直入選課本裡、擺在書店裡、存在年輕人的心裡……”全場響起贊同的熱烈掌聲！ 余光中為自己準備的生日禮物是三本新作：詩集《藕神》、評論集《舉杯向天笑》和翻譯集《不要緊的女人》。翻閱散發著油墨香的余光中新作，眾人不禁驚歎：“真不敢相信余先生已經八十歲了！…… 早年私淑余光中的陳芳明教授感言：“看見八十歲的余老師繼續出版新作，當年的點撥就像一把火繼續燃燒。” 彭鏡禧感慨：“余光中的創作有強烈的使命感、中國風格和全球屬性，影響遍及全球華人讀者千千萬萬”。 陳義芝高度讚揚和尊崇余光中“開創新詩的語言藝術，像韓愈寫唐詩、蘇東坡寫宋詞，都為時代開創出文學新局”。 “余學”專家黃維梁教授有感而發：“余光中用璀璨的五彩筆耕耘數十年，造就余光中的文心雕龍。……” 主持人楊照形容八十歲依然創作不輟的余光中是“與永恆拔河”。 馬英九先生特派人致贈一幅手書賀幛“高華霽月”及一瓶“玉山珍藏陳高”酒。 著名書法家杜忠誥以余先生《秋興》詩撰寫長幅，面贈余先生。 在“祝你生日快樂”的歡快樂曲中，余光中興奮地吹熄三層高生日大蛋糕上的蠟燭，高興地與夫人一起切蛋糕。掌聲熱烈響起，詩人激動不已：“有這麼多朋友陪我過生日，比得諾貝爾獎還高興！ ”這是呼應余光中文學成就海內外共賞，曾多次入圍諾貝爾文學獎。對諾貝爾文學獎，他鏗鏘地回應：“一位作家能被自己的民族接受和肯定，才是最大的光榮！……。” 為慶祝余光中八十大壽，兩岸三地從年頭到年尾，幾乎熱鬧了一整年： 二月，北京保利劇院上演以余光中《鄉愁》為題材的音樂會； 三月，徐州師範大學召開“余光中與二十世紀華文文學國際研討會”； 五月，臺灣政治大學隆重舉辦“余光中先生八十大壽學術研討會”，余光中獲頒政治大學名譽文學博士；臺灣《聯合文學》、《印刻文學》、香港《明報》同時發表“余光中特輯”； 九月，臺灣著名唱片公司滾石重新發行余光中新詩譜寫的民歌《中國現代民歌集》，並盛大舉辦《詩與歌的迴旋曲-余光中八十大壽演唱會》； 重陽日，臺灣《中國時報》、《聯合報》、《中華日報》、《人間福報》與《文訊》、《聯合文學》，禮花齊放，同時刊登余光中作品； 十月，余光中任教的臺灣中山大學舉辦“余光中80大壽慶壽會”和“榮譽教授余光中特展”，中山大學附中設置“余光中詩園”； 生日當天，余光中受邀偕妻回到闊別多年的出生地南京，重訪了曾就讀過的小學、中學、大學三所母校；十二月，余光中曾任教的香港中文大學舉辦“余光中特展”。 同年，余光中《蓮的聯想》和《白玉苦瓜》重版。新版有《悅讀余光中──散文卷》、《余光中六十年詩選》、《余光中跨世紀散文選》、余光中八十壽慶專集《詩歌天保》和余光中詩歌集《鄉愁四韻》。 在接受政治大學名譽文學博士學位的盛典上，余光中發表《年壽與堅持》專題演講：“行百里者半九十。希望還有十年的機會。能夠認真寫作詩文，經常評論與翻譯。只要能寫，就不會退休，要天天寫、年年寫。” 詩人羅任玲在《一首詩被永恆引渡》中寫道“文學史，當然早就把‘余光中’三個字寫進去了，可‘余光中’卻仍在成為‘更新更好’的作家當中，是現在進行式，而非完成式。” 祝壽會上，余光中的一位學生的發言代表了眾人的心聲：“您的聲音，此岸聽得到，彼岸聽得到，今人聽得到，後人也會聽得到。” 余光中的生命成就，在他對文學的執著追求中展現無遺。余光中用手中的那支五彩筆，奠定起自己在中國文學史上不可動搖的崇高地位。 華文星空，禮花璀燦！ 我們衷心祝福余光中！謝謝余光中！ 華木蓮寄思 （北京）莊志霞 明月山是綠的海洋，以山的名字命名的明月山杜鵑、松、竹、柏、樟、杉、銀杏、銀鵲、青線柳等樹木蔚為大觀。其中的南方紅豆杉，為國內珍稀植物，而 據悉山上的中華落葉華木蓮則是世界珍稀植物，現僅存兩株，為明月山所特有…… 哦，贛西華木蓮，我故鄉的華木蓮! 我聽見自己嚴肅認真地對自己說 不要再這樣活下去了 高空驚魂 (夏威夷) 陳豔群 下午1點35分，美國大陸航空公司的一架波音767，緩緩從紐約機場第125閘口抽出來，作90度轉身，之後，朝著跑道繼續滑行。 機艙內很空，大約才一百多名乘客。平日，由紐約直飛夏威夷的這次航班總是人滿為患。三周前我們飛往紐約的那趟航班上，一個空位都沒有。近十小時縮在窄小的位置裡，睡也不是，坐也不是，弄得頭昏眼脹，腰酸背痛的。而今天，我一個人獨享中間三個位子，如中彩般欣喜若狂。試想，一張經濟艙的票價，能得到頭等艙的待遇（飲食除外），關健是連續十個小時的長途飛行中，能伸長胳膊和腿，美美地睡上一覺，是何等美事啊。Don坐在靠窗的兩個位。我們之間隔著過道，為了這＂頭等艙＂的待遇，我們只好暫時分開。熊掌和魚不可兼得。 飛機在長長的跑道上滑行一陣之後，輕盈騰空而起，如驕健的雄鷹，平穩地向高空攀升。我合上手中傑克﹒倫敦的＜海狼＞，習慣地閉上眼睛，以減輕由急速傾斜向上和高空缺氧所造成的生理不適反應。突然，從飛機的右翼發出不正常的振蕩聲，猶如急速運轉的電風扇遇到阻礙物所發出的響聲一般。我以為是自己的錯覺，睜眼側耳細聽，隱約感覺到這種振蕩聲和飛機本身的噪音有所不同。這時，空服人員從前後聚集到飛機中間的過道上交談，但聽不見他們在說什麼。乘客的頭不由自主地探出，好奇的雙眼投向空服人員，不知發生了什麼事。 大約在飛機離開地面30分鐘後，機艙裡傳來機長的渾厚而平靜的聲音。告訴大家：飛機在空中遭遇飛鳥襲擊（Bird Strik）。那隻倒楣的候鳥被機翼強力吸住，導致引擎出故障。雖然引擎尚未失去操作功能，但不敢肯定十個小時的飛行能安然無恙。機長與地面取得聯系後，決定打道回府，以確保乘客的安全。不過，在下降之前，飛機仍需繼續飛行一陣，以將機上的燃油全部排放出去，方能在著陸時不致於引起大火。 機長簡要且輕描淡寫地將出現的問題向乘客宣佈後，艙內出奇地安靜，沒有出現正常的，應有的騷亂和動蕩。也許所有的人都被這突發事件嚇呆了，或是對機長宣佈的事實根本還未反應過來。而我腦海裡立刻閃現出今年元月份飛機迫降紐約哈遜河中，乘客在兩邊的機翼上等待救援的情景。當時也是因為候鳥(Canadian Geese）的原故，導致兩個引擎皆受損而失控。機長刻不容緩地作出決定，將飛機降落在冰冷的哈遜河中。因救援船隻和隊伍即時趕赴現場，機上所有乘客免遭一難，成為航空史上的佳話。機長也一夜之間成為美國人民的英雄。從那次事件我瞭解到，所有的飛行員都受過如何處理緊急事故的專業訓練。我完全相信機長能有應變的措施和能力，只是我們不知道事故究竟有多嚴重，不過有一點我很清楚，我們的情形和那次事故有些不同，我們在陸地的上空，而且下面全是居民住宅。如果飛機失控，一頭栽下去，肯定粉身碎骨的，還將連累到地面無辜的人。想到這我不由得汗毛倒豎起來。此時，Don起身坐了過來。我兩手緊抓住他的手臂，焦急的雙眼望著他，希望能從他的眼神裡得出什麼結果來。Don笑一笑，拍著我的手說不會有大問題。＂巧的是，＂他繼續說，＂今天USA Today的頭版頭條正是提到近來好多次候鳥襲擊飛機之事。＂他的那份鎮定安撫了我。所謂夫妻之間有難同擔，有Don在身邊，再恐佈，驚險的事也就減輕一半。生命的長短不重要，重要的是在一起度過的都是幸福的時光。俗話說，夫妻不求同生，如能求得同死，也是一種造化。此時，令人極度不安的噪音消失了。可憐的鳥，從加拿大飛來避冬，卻慘遭人造大鳥撹成肉醬。＂天高任鳥飛＂一說，在這個時代得打折扣。 艙內仍是平靜。從椅背上的電視螢幕的反光鏡中，我看到前排靠窗的年青女子正在無聲地抽泣，她身旁的男子抱著她的頭不斷地親吻，安慰她。後排靠窗的黑裔女性低聲給她年幼的兒子讀書講故事。而我左邊靠窗的男子正用他的手機對著窗外拍攝，我順著視線朝外看，只見機翼後面的管道裡正在排放燃油，如高壓消防籠頭裡噴出的水般。職業的敏感使我從背包裡掏出像機，迅速按下快門。我很想起身，將艙內每位乘客此時的表情拍攝下來，更想知道他們內心的想法。但我缺乏勇氣去這麼做，更不願意觸動人們緊繃的神經，誤以為我給他們拍遺照而跟我過不去。 螢幕上顯示飛機在原區域繞圈子，十分鐘…二十分鐘…三十分鐘…四十分鐘，在漫長而恍如無止境的四十分鐘捱過去之後，機翼後面燃油噴射終於停止。飛機開始下降。我不知道十個小時飛行需要多少燃油，但我知道兩個管道同時排放，要整整四十分鐘。大陸航空公司這趟飛行可謂損失很大。我驚訝地發現，此時，我沒有為自己的生命擔憂，卻在考慮航空公司的利益。 飛機＂砰＂地一聲觸地了。雖然粗魯了點，至少平安且沒有著火。機艙內響起了熱烈的掌聲。＂感謝機長＂有人大喊著。舷窗外，消防車，警車，救護車排在跑道旁，紅色，藍色警燈旋轉閃耀，如電影裡常見的場面。我和Don緊緊相擁，我的眼淚唰地往下淌，有種劫難還生之感。覺得，生命如朝露，稍縱即逝，太短暫,脆弱。應好好珍惜。Don走進候機室，第一件事就是直奔書店，去買當天的USA Today報紙。 執手相依 (山東) 李宗國 仲夏的一天，我陪著母親去看望二舅，二舅隱患腦血栓臥床兩年了，原本身材魁梧的二舅單瘦如柴，耳朵也背了。二妗子坐在床前始終緊握著二舅的手，一會兒撫摸著二舅瘦瘦的臉，一會兒揉揉二舅的腿。她是個聾啞人，卻不時與二舅啊啊地交談著，間或笑著啊啊地向我們比劃著，站在一旁的大表嫂告訴我們，她叫我們不要擔心，二舅的身體正一天比一天好著哪。 回到家裡，傷感不已的母親在擔心二舅的病情時，頭一次說起二舅和二妗子平凡而感人的故事。姥姥家是魯西南一個秀美如畫的小山村，年輕的二舅是一個英俊秀氣的帥小夥，雖然只上了一年私塾，但跟著一個老石匠學藝三年，成為石匠行裡一頂一的好手。一年夏天，他給百里之外的一戶人家砌石蓋房，忙碌了半個月，房主過意不去，留他多喝了幾杯，歸家心切的二舅謝絕了房東的挽留，趕路時已是黃昏，行至半路，暴雨驟至，山洪暴發，逆河床而上的二舅被捲進了瞬息而至的山洪，或許是山神發恩，把二舅從水神手中拽了回來，第二天，二舅醒來已躺在一家樸實山裡人家的床上。原來，這家啞巴女娃早晨到河邊打水，發現了掛在樹梢的二舅，她硬生生的把二舅背回了家，二舅整整休養了十來天后才被姥姥接回了家。 或許也因了因果報應、情緣未了那句禪語吧，信佛的母親提起這事，很是感慨頗深。三年自然災害，處處鬧饑荒。姥姥的村子山場廣袤，收成還算能填飽肚皮。這天，村村民在村部曬場的草垛下發現了一個衣衫襤褸的啞巴叫花子，姥姥一眼認出了她就是當年救二舅的女娃，經懂啞語村民的詢問，原來那女娃家裡鬧饑荒，她跟著母親出來討飯，不慎走散迷了路，可憐的她又聾又啞，身上被狗咬傷了多處，討飯到了姥姥村。姥姥把她領回了家，不幾日的照料便恢復痊癒，模樣倒是俊俏，雖然聾啞，可是腦子活泛，手腳勤快，家務活像模像樣。天天跟著二舅轉來轉去，時間不長倆人有了感情，姥姥姥爺極力反對。姥姥早就找了幾家媒婆說親，相中了一家女娃，準備商量著定婚期。攆那女娃幾次，啊啊地哭著就是不出門，強得像頭牛的二舅更是鐵了心，說，不就是嫌人家是聾啞人嗎，她對我有恩，我對她有情，我絕不後悔。 Treaty Room Washington, DC March 8, 2010 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, this is a very great opportunity to welcome President Bongo to the State Department. Gabon is a valued partner of the United States, and this visit gave us an opportunity to discuss a wide range of common concerns. Before I comment on our meeting, though, I wish to express our concern for the tragic loss of life in Nigeria. We continue to urge all parties to exercise restraint and seek constructive means for addressing the cycle of violence in Plateau State. The Nigerian Government should ensure that the perpetrators of acts of violence are brought to justice under the rule of law and that human rights are respected as order is restored. I thanked President Bongo for his and Gabon抯 efforts on behalf of regional stability in Central Africa and for its leadership on the world stage, particularly at the United Nations. This month, Gabon holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, and we look forward to working together on a number of shared global challenges and goals. Among these is the grave threat posed by the possible spread of nuclear weapons. In our discussion today, I expressed our serious questions about Iran抯 continued refusal to live up to its international obligations. We do believe that engagement and negotiation is preferable. And to that end, the United States has made an unprecedented effort to engage constructively with Iran and resolve the international community抯 issues over Iran抯 nuclear weapons program. Unfortunately, Iran has not reciprocated that outreach, and its leaders have left the international community with little choice but to demonstrate to Iran that there are consequences for its decisions. We are now working actively with our partners to prepare and implement new measures to pressure Iran to change its course. The best way to send Iran a clear and unified message is for the international community to speak with one voice and respond with additional measures through a new Security Council resolution. President Bongo and I discussed this issue, and I look forward to continuing that conversation in the weeks ahead. We also explored ways to strengthen the ties between our two nations, including broader economic cooperation. We are very supportive of Gabon抯 efforts to diversify its economy, widen the circle of prosperity, and create new opportunities for its people. And we know, as the president knows, that economic progress depends on responsible governance that rejects corruption, enforces the rule of law, provides good stewardship of natural resources, and delivers results that help to change people抯 lives for the better. So I want to recognize President Bongo抯 efforts to improve government efficiency, eliminate waste, and fight corruption. Gabon is participating in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and taking other steps that will give confidence both to international investors but, more importantly, to the people of the country. We stand ready to support Gabon as it further strengthens its democratic institutions and processes. And I also want to applaud the leadership that Gabon has shown in combating human trafficking. We have forged new partnerships with the Justice Department, and Gabon is moving toward ratifying the UN protocol. This is one more example of the reform-minded leadership that President Bongo is bringing to his country. So Mr. President, I want to reiterate what I told you in private. President Obama and I are committed to broadening and strengthening our partnership and our friendship based on mutual respect and mutual interest. We have much to learn from one another, and I look forward to your leadership in the years ahead. Thank you so much for your visit and your friendship. PRESIDENT BONGO: Thank you very much. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to take this opportunity to thank President Obama and Madam Clinton for welcoming us to Washington. We are coming from Africa, where it抯 at the time very warm, hot, and we appreciate efforts made to welcome us in the city. Because the last time we looked on television, we were afraid. (Laughter.) I remember in Copenhagen, President Obama telling us that he had to head back home because there was a snowstorm coming. (Laughter). So we went with that, and we were a bit worried when we got the invitation to come to Washington. But we would like to really take this opportunity to thank the Administration, first for having been there with us, and last year was a very difficult year for us. And that抯 those times when you see that you have friends. We抳e come a long way, we抳e gone through a democratic process, and now we are moving forward. As Madam Clinton said, our message is very clear. We want to take Gabon further. We want Gabon to become an emerging country, and we will take all the necessary steps to do that. Good governance, fight against corruption, diversity our economic ?our economy and our partners. This is what we抮e doing. But we also know that we have responsibilities because we also are an elected member of the Security Council, and we know, as such, we have responsibilities. And we are going to work very closely with the United States and all the permanent members of the Security Council to make sure that the world is a better place. We fully agree with what Madam Secretary just said regarding the situation in Iran and other countries. We feel that it抯 for the authorities in Iran to demonstrate that they抮e willing and to go along with what the international community demands. It抯 not for us to reassure. It抯 for them to reassure all of us, especially the neighbors of Iran. The neighbors of Iran have a right to live peacefully. And the people of Iran also have a right to live peacefully. So we are going to work closely because our aim is not just to punish. Our aim is to help assist, and we want to do that. But it has to be the same will on both sides, if I may say so. Thank you. SECRETARY CLINTON: Thank you, sir. MR. CROWLEY: Jill Dougherty from CNN. QUESTION: Secretary Clinton, thank you. On Iran, a couple of things. One is have you heard anything about the Chinese coming ?in their meeting, coming from Deputy Secretary Steinberg? And then also on these ?the easing of sanctions with the internet, the internet side of it, how will that actually work? What抯 the practical use to that? Because after all, if the government of Iran wanted to stop that, couldn抰 they just stop it as they have before? Couldn抰 it be perceived by them as very ?let抯 see ?provocative, an attempt to bring down that government? And if I could, very quick question on Pakistan, there抯 conflicting information about an American al-Qaida being picked up. We抮e still not clear about what the case is. Can you tell us? SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, I抦 not going to comment on the third question, Jill, but let me take the first two. We are having very constructive and comprehensive conversations with many countries, including China, and it抯 not only the United States but other nations and their leaders reaching out to China as well. And I think that there is a growing awareness of the need, as President Bongo said, for Iran to reassure the world because of the consequences that could, unfortunately, come to pass if Iran pursues a nuclear weapons program and other nations feel compelled to respond. So any nation that is concerned, as China is, about oil supply, stability in the Gulf has to look very carefully at that. With respect to internet freedom, you抮e right, we are supporting the right of free expression and have granted licenses, or in the process of granting licenses, to companies that wish to provide internet tools to citizens of Iran so that they can communicate, so that they can have other sources of information about what is going on inside their country. We believe that Iran calls itself a democracy ?it should act like one, and that means respecting the right to free expression and assembly of its own people. And in the 21st century, expression and assembly are carried out on the internet as well as in person. So we抮e going to continue to support those Iranians who wish to circumvent and be able to communicate without being blocked by their own government. MR. CROWLEY: (Inaudible.) QUESTION: (In French.) PRESIDENT GABON: (Via interpreter.) Madam Secretary, the question was from a gentleman from the Gabonese press concerning the exchange of views between President Bongo and yourself, especially regarding whether there was any views that you give to the president concerning the Iran question. And President Bongo抯 answer was, of course, that he is hoping that Iran would of course assure its population and its neighbors as well. And President Bongo is hoping that Gabon and the United States are going to work hand in hand within the Security Council. Dr. Wright is a Senior Professor in the Department of History at UNLV. The Event and Dinner Party was initiated by Dr. Tony Lei and Ms. Nancy Diaz. It was chaired by Dr. Tony Lei, Dr. R. D. Prabhu, Dr. Ram Singh, Mr. Tonie Sison, and Ms. Rita Vaswani. Joined with more than 36 hosts of the Dinner Party by community and organizational leaders, business exevutives and owners, and government officials, we had guests and participants more than 384 people.*3 As a Professor of Political Science of UNLV, Dina Titus is now a famous Senator of the State Nevada. She is also a State Senator Democratic Leader. To her new honor and appointment as a Fellow of Public Administration Institution (PAI) of WBTI on August 15, 2001, Senator Titus agreed with District Judge Valorie Vega on "This position will undoubtedly provide me with avenues for exploring improvements in public services to which I'm most dedicated." It is really a valuable advancement that we may have such an appropriate and achieved individual like Dina as a colleague to our Institution. Senator Titus' expertise and good reputation in political science has been known locally and nationally. With her outstanding professional expertise and practical public administration experience, Senator Titus' acceptance as a fellow of PAI evidenced that in supporting Director Dr. William Thompason with Fellows Former Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, Justices of the Supreme Court William Maupin and Nancy Becker, District Judges Mark Denton, Valorie Vega, Nancy Saitta, Jackie Glass, Michelle Leavitt, Jennifer Togliatti, Jessie Walsh, and among others, they would form an excellent leadership team launching PAI into the next milleunnium for academic excellence and administrative practicallity. Dina Titus is now a famous Adjunct Professor of Administrative Strategies in the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute. Professor Dina Titus, a native of Georgia, was educated at William and Mary, University of Georgia and received her Ph. D. from Florida State University. She currently teaches Political Science at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas, and, in addition to these responsibilities, she is also a Nevada State Senator from District 7 in Clark County. She is on the Board of Directors of the Nevada Test Site Foundation and is a member of the Nevada-California Super Speed Ground Transportation Commission, Clark country Women抯 Democratic Club, Education Commission of the States and the Nevada Commission on Participatory Democracy. She was named the Spanos Outstanding Teacher at UNLV in 1985, and was the Chairman of the Nevada Humanities Committee from 1984-19865 and in 1999 was the Nevada Arts Advocate of the Year.*3 Dina's brilliant! Mayor Oscar Goodman said of her. Her most recent publication is Bombs in the Backyard: Atomic Testing and American Politics. The title of Dr. Titus?Convocation lecture, 揟he Mushroom Cloud as an American Symbol,?attests to the extensive knowledge she has concerning America抯 nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site and the impact it has had on that region.*4 "The maturity of civilized society is the fundamental guarantee for the normal processing of democratic politics. In a civilized society, it depends highly on the team of public intellectuals. A good public intellectual interates peoples' opinion, analyze rationally, and points out wise perspectives and notice. Yesterday morning I filed as a candidate for re-election to the United States House of Representatives from District 3. Each time I run for office, I am humbled by the experience of the campaign and by the friends I make along the way. To: tojulei@yahoo.com 東海大學音樂系年度大戲－費加洛婚禮! ***** 東海大學音樂系將於三月十八日晚間七點三十分，於台中市中山堂推出年度大戲──莫札特的四幕喜歌劇「費加洛婚禮」。 曠世天才莫札特在1786年他30歲時寫下了這部喜歌劇，嘲諷當時社會的驕奢淫亂，為當時皇室所不容而遭到禁演的命運。其實此歌劇幽默詼諧，人物刻化生動而節奏明快，莫札特貫穿全曲的音樂動機，令觀眾即使閉目聆聽，亦能領略其中劇情與音樂之奧秘。 此次東海大學音樂系傾全力製作「費加洛婚禮」，導演陳思照教授及其夫人湯慧茹將多年累積的心血，以各式服裝道具搭建豪華場景，精緻呈現於舞台，對演員角色刻劃從心理狀態到肢體語言，均鉅細靡遺加以引導，全戲絕無冷場，中文對話，台詞令人捧腹。 演出人員除了音樂系研究所高材生及優秀校友李增銘外，系主任徐以琳，聲樂老師：李秀芬、湯慧茹、鄭海芸及導演陳思照均擔綱演出，師生同台飆戲，並特別邀請國內著名男中音廖聰文擔任主角費加洛演出。歌手們各個放下平日形象，將人性中貪婪、好色、俏皮與真情均唯妙唯肖地表現出來。指揮鍾安妮率領東海音樂系管絃樂團擔任伴奏，圓熟的演奏技術、華麗的音色，將這齣經典歌劇推到最高潮。 歌劇演出為東海大學音樂系一大特色，歷年來成功地演出歌劇「阿毛與國王」、「女人皆如此」、「魔笛」、「可愛的牧羊女」、「糖果屋」、「俏管家」、「蝙蝠」、「劇院經理」及多部歌劇選粹，並至國家戲劇院、台北城市舞台、各地文化中心或校園巡迴公演，頗受好評，演出邀約不斷，更為國內聲樂界及劇場界培養諸多人才。 （左圖：音樂系成果照） 為了親近普羅大眾，推廣歌劇藝術，東海大學音樂系在演出「費加洛婚禮」時，保留義大利原文以及美聲的經典唱法，以中文台詞連貫故事情節，使觀眾更加融入劇中，演出中並配合字幕解說於舞台兩側，觀眾必能了解每句唱詞涵義。

One Republican Senator spent days using every procedural trick he could to delay an extension of unemployment benefits in the worst economy we've had in decades. Only the overwhelming attention to the issue caused the other side to finally stand down and allow the vote to go forward.*7379 One thing we can be sure of: we'll get the same games around legislation for clean energy reform to address the climate change crisis. And this is just too important to play games around. We need the good jobs that'll come from building the new clean economy, and our planet desperately needs us to stop polluting the air. But we saw this week that when the pressure intensifies, we can break through the obstruction and games to get results. But only you can bring that pressure. So please, take a moment and call your Senators and let them know that you want action. Call the Senate switchboard at 202-224-3121, and they'll connect you to your Senator. When you call, be polite but firm in your resolve to see action on this critical issue. Tell them why this is important to you, and that you demand that they support immediate action on clean energy and climate change. They need to know that you care about this. Look, this isn't as partisan an issue as many we've seen. I've been working hard with Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, on the legislation, and I've had productive meetings with other Republicans. But we need to raise the level of urgency across the board to get the result we need. We need to protect our climate from carbon pollution. And reforming the way we create energy will repower our economy, creating investment and good jobs and putting our country back in control of our own energy again. We provided help to unemployed workers, took a giant step towards ending nuclear waste storage at Yucca Mountain, and we passed a tourism promotion bill that will create thousands of new jobs in Nevada.*7178 Today, it was my privilege to stand with the President as the Travel Promotion Act was signed into law at the White House. This bill will be a major boost for Nevadas economy, bringing thousands of new visitors to our state and creating thousands of jobs, all without increasing taxes or the deficit. Yesterday, we won a lasting victory that will help to keep our state from being the nation抯 nuclear dump. The Department of Energy took steps to withdraw its licensing application for the project, and millions of Nevada families and businesses breathed a sigh of relief. I am pleased that this ill-conceived project, which I have fought against throughout my entire career, is officially coming to an end. But our victories didn抰 come easily. If Nevadans want to know what抯 clogging up Washington ?if they want to know what抯 standing between them and the help they need ?they need to look no further than the events of the past week. I led the fight to extend unemployment benefits and basic health coverage to out-of-work Nevadans, but I was saddened to see that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle needlessly delayed our efforts in order to score political points. Because of that delay, thousands of unemployed workers lost their benefits, thousands more workers were furloughed when their highway construction projects were delayed, small business lending was frozen, and doctors were not properly paid for the seniors they treated. But we didn抰 quit. Tuesday, we finally won our battle on behalf of Nevada抯 families and small businesses. Because this measure passed, construction workers are back on the job and unemployed workers will receive the benefits they need to put food on their families?tables. After 3 weeks family prayers and your last night's prayers, we got the congratulation call from Coppell New Tech High. After the drawing, JoAnne got in. Over 300 applicants, 50 was first come first in, 51 was from drawing. Let me share with you how we learned with our kids to trust the Lord: Rember is not about what we do is about who He is. (1) 2/4 - JoAnne told us she would like to go to New Tech
(2) We ask her to pray about this (make sure if she really want to go).
(3) 2/18, 22 - We start learning about the school.(we went to the open house tour and 2 informational meeting)
(4) 2/22 - We communicate with JoAnne we would not be able to participate for the camp out for the first 50 spot.
(5) We ask Jo talk to Lord about her desire, and ask Lord to bless her petitions and leave the result to Him.
(6) Have her understand God knows better than us. He knows what is the best high school for her. God's plan always the best.

What you think about in your unguarded moments reflects what your mind dwells upon. What you speak about when your guard is down is a good gauge of what is in your heart (Matt. 12:34). Your mind needs exercise just as your physical body does. To keep your body healthy, you must be careful what you put into it, and you must exercise regularly. To keep your thoughts pure, you must guard what goes into your mind. To exercise your mind, you must contemplate things that are noble and truths that stretch your mind. Some Christians allow the world to fill their minds with ungodly thinking. Some people seem drawn to concentrate on the negative, choosing to be pessimistic about everything. Some remain satisfied with thinking of the mundane. Others fail to intentionally place Scripture in their thoughts, choosing instead to adopt human reasoning. Others, however, choose to expose their minds to the truths of God—to that which is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and good. The things you allow your mind to dwell on will be revealed by the way you live. If you focus on negative things, you will inevitably be a negative person. If you allow unholy thoughts to fill your mind, ungodliness will become common in your life. If you fill your mind with thoughts of Christ, you will become Christlike. What you fill your mind with is a matter of choice.
