A natural follow-up would be, "How are you bringing other people up?" "What specific things do you do every day to show others their importance to you?"
One of the most difficult, yet meaningful actions we can take to encourage others is celebrate their success. Forty thousand fans were in attendance in the Oakland stadium when Rickey Henderson tied Lou Brock's career stolen base record. According to USA Today, Lou left baseball in 1979 but faithfully followed Henderson's prestigious career and was excited about his success. Realizing that Rickey would set a new record, Brock was quoted in USA Today as saying, "I'll be there. Do you think I'm going to miss it now? Rickey did 12 years what took me 19. He's amazing."
Imagine how Rickey Henderson felt knowing the person whose stolen base record he was about to break was excited about his achievements. Envy or jealousy might have been more natural feelings for Lou Brock but encouragers set self-interest aside and rejoice in the happiness of others.*3

Dr. Rory Reid, our Adjunct Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), was sworn into office as the Chairman of Clark County Commission in Nevada on January 3, 2005.

"Through the recommendation by our faculty members including District Judges Mark Denton and Valorie Vega, Dr. Rory Reid has been promoted from Adjunct Assistant Professor to Adjunct Associate Professor of Business Law, Graduate School of Business and Public Administration (GSBPA), by Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) on December 3, 2004," announced Dr. John Wang, Spokesman of WBTI, on Monday, December 6, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*1

Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid was raised in the Las Vegas Valley. After growing up in Las Vegas, he attended Brigham Young University, where he earned his B.A. in International Relations and Spanish in 1985. Rory continued at BYU, attending the J. Reuben Clark Law School earning a J.D. in 1988. Rory returned to Nevada and began the practice of law. At the age of thirty, he became the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of a local company. After his tenure as corporate counsel, he went on to become a partner at Lionel Sawyer & Collins (lasvegas@lionelsawyer.com), a famous Nevada law firm.*2

Additionally, Las Vegas Life Magazine recently named Rory “Best Up and Coming Politician” in Southern Nevada. On the basis at an adjunct level, his teaching subject in business law will be good for a graduate school in business.

"As a graduate school in business, I'll put more emphasis both on values of theoreticality and practicality. I'd like to suggest eight courses for our China Certificate Program in Management: Financial Analysis, Managerial Accounting, Quality Management, Just-in-Time & Lean Operations, Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, Applied Economic Analysis, and Strategy Formulation and Implementation," said Dean Dr. Keong Leong of GSBPA, who is professor and Chairman of the Department of Business of UNLV, for a Symposium.*3

The Summer 2003 Symposium of WBTI was held at Zax Restaurant of Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel on May 19, 2003 in Las Vegas. The theme of this mini symposium is: The Entrepreneurship of MPA/SME and MBA/PKE Certificates Program for the people of English and Chinese Speaking.*4

Commissioner Reid was sworn into office as County Commissioner on January 6, 2003, to Commission District "G". That term expires the first Monday in January 2007.

Rory Reid is one of the sons of U. S. Senator Harry Reid, D-Nev. As his father has become the most powerful Democratic senator in Washington D.C., Clark County Commissioner Rory Reid is moving up in the local political ranks and is expected to be named board chairman in the coming January.

Rory said on Monday, November 15 that he had enough support from fellow commissioners to be voted chairman, a largely ceremonial position.

"I'm honored my colleagues have confidence in my abilities, and I look forward to our continued collegial relationship," Reid, 42, said.*5

Commissioner Reid was chosen by his fellow commissioners in the current term to serve in the following capacities: Nevada Development Authority; Metropolitan Police Committee on Fiscal Affairs; Regional Jail Commission; Clark County District Board of Health; and Southern Nevada Water Authority.

As a Clark County Commissioner, Rory also serves on the following boards/committees: Boards of Trustees – Clark County Water Reclamation District; Board of Trustees – Big Bend Water District; Board of Trustees – Kyle Canyon Water District; Board of Directors – Las Vegas Valley Water District; Liquor and Gaming Licensing Board; and Vice Chair – Local Law Enforcement Advisory Committee.*6

Rory has served as the Chairman of the Nevada Democratic Party. After his election to that post, he instituted significant and meaningful changes in the party structure that resulted in a more stable, cohesive and effective organization.

Rory and his wife Cindy are the proud parents of three children.

Rory has long been active in his community. He has donated his time to numerous local, state and national political campaigns. He co-founded Nevadans for Public Awareness. He also has donated his time as a Cub Scout Leader.

Dr. Charles H.C. Kao and Mrs. Anne Kao have made a leader- ship pledge of $50,000 over the next five years to be used toward the accomplishment of the University's "Reach for the Future" major gifts campaign.
In announcing their gift, Dr. Kao indicated it was their wish to support three important areas of the University: faculty development, Academic Excellence Higher Education Education Scholarships, and exchange programs with Greater China.
Dr. and Mrs. Kao have been generous supporters of international programs for many years. Most recently, they were instrumental in the establishment of the Center for Pacific Rim Studies. The Center is responsible for providing opportunities for visiting professors and artists from Asia to visit the UW-River Falls campus and promoting educational exchanges between the two cultures. A portion of their gift will be used to underwrite faculty development opportunities and scholarships in the College of Arts &Sciences.
Elected as the Distinguished Professor of the Year in 1974, Dr. Kao was the chair of the department of economics from 1971-80. Since then he has devoted part of his time in Greater China (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong) involved in research, lecturing, writing and publishing. Known as a "leading thinker" in Greater China, Dr. Kao has written more than 15 books in Chinese in his field of economic policy and social thought. Two of his books were given the national prize in Taiwan. In addition to his academic activity, he has also been serving as an economic advisor to the central government there.
Mrs. Kao had a successful 25-year career with 3M Company and is currently working for IBM in Beijing as a computer systems consultant. She is very interested in international programs and cultural exchange in the arts.*3

Dr. Tony Lei transferred the education of BBA and MBA in the United States of America to Taiwan. The intellectuals who joined him were many professors, scholars, administrators, publishers, among others. All of them together, for many years, helped bring the Miracle of Economy of Taiwan realized.

"Together with the successful experience of economic deveopment in Taiwan, now is the time for China to advance it even better!" said Eric Chen.

Washington, D.C. ¨C Service groups in Nevada will provide more volunteers through AmeriCorps thanks to several grants announced today by Senator Harry Reid.

Four centers in Nevada will receive separate grants totaling $555,909 that will provide monthly stipends to volunteers who are members of AmeriCorp, a nationwide service network that engages more than 50,000 Americans each year in education, public safety, health, and the environment.

Assistant Democratic Leader of the U. S. Senate and Senator Harry Reid has made a difference for Nevada. From humble beginnings in the tiny town of Searchlight, Nevada to the second highest ranking Democrat in the United States Senate, he has distinguished himself as a fighter for Nevadans and all American families in the corridors of power in Washington, D. C..

"Recognizing his trajectory in public service, the Las Vegas Sun said Reid 'has gone from underdog to Senate's top dog.' Parade Magazine, the nation's largest weekly identified Senator Reid as one of a handful of leaders in Washington who possess 'integrity and guts.'*3

"Since Nevadans elected him to the Senate in 1986, Harry Reid has developed a reputation as a consensus builder and an accomplished legislator. Even his Republican colleagues praise his reasoned, balanced approach. In the Program, the National Anthem was sung by Rose McKinny James. The Event was chaired by the President of PDCLV, John Ponticello. He introduced participants of all the elected officers, leaders of unions, persons campaigned for public service, among others. The Keynote Speaker was Senator Harry Reid. Special Speakers were U. S. Originally from California, Nevada Assemblywoman Valerie Weber moved to Nevada in 1990. She attained an undergraduate degree in biological science, with a specialty in the field of transfusion medicine, which earned several medical journal authorships. Valerie is a 1998 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Las Vegas program. She was recently appointed to the Governor's Workforce Investment Board and recently completed a four-year term on the Board of Displaced Homemakers.

Valerie is the owner of Collaborating Solutions, an organizational development company that utilizes Emotional Intelligence (ECI) in developing
leaders. An avid student of both Peter Senge of MIT and Daniel Goleman of Harvard University, she has working knowledge in business consulting.*1

July 16-22, 2006, is National Probation, Parole and Supervision Week, a time for all of us to recognize the men and women who work each and every day to make our homes safer. These dedicated individuals supply a layer of safety in our communities by providing supervision for probationers, parolees, and conditionally released prison inmates.

In Nevada today, there are approximately 14,000 people on probation and another 4,300 on parole. The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Parole and Probation Division is staffed by 475 hardworking employees, whose daily job is to hold those who have broken the law and are now on probation or parole accountable. Their role in helping to protect the safety of our communities and homes is to be commended. They are truly an important component of our first level of “homeland” security.

Probation and Parole officers are often exposed to many dangerous and negative aspects of life, including dealing with the trauma offenders cause their victims. Yet, these strong individuals work every day to make our society a better and safer place.

During National Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week and throughout the year as well, please join me in expressing appreciation for a job well done by our state’s Probation and Parole officers who perform this vital service to the benefit of their neighbors and communities in and every day of the year.

Gibbons to participate in House Homeland Security Committee trip to Canada

As a senior member of the House Homeland Security Committee, Jim Gibbons continues working hard for the taxpayers who elected him to Congress. On Sunday, Gibbons begins a two-day trip to Toronto, Canada to assess the recent arrests of individuals who plotted to bomb government and media buildings. He, along with other members of the committee, will meet with Canadian officials, such as local law enforcement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service to discuss their successful prevention of the planned terrorist attack.

GIBBONS EARNS AN "A" FROM THE NRA!

Jim Gibbons also just received an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) Political Victory Fund. Jim’s “solidly pro-gun” rating is based on his voting record while serving in the U.S. Congress, as well as on the responses provided in the NRA’s candidate profile. The rating also takes into account information and recommendations from Nevada-based, grassroots activists.

Last weekend, the Gibbons Ground Crew attended the Las Vegas Gun Show at Cashman Center in Las Vegas to hand out brochures and flyers, Gibbons campaign stickers, and guns (water guns, of course). Hunters, gun owners and collectors clearly have a friend in Jim Gibbons and look forward to electing him Governor of Nevada.*3

Kathy Augustine, Nevada's state controller, died Tuesday afternoon on July 11, 2006 at a Reno hospital. She was 50.

"President Dr. Tony Lei expressed great sorrow at the news of the tragic death on July 11, 2006 of Vice President of CCDAPCC of Washington Business and Technology Institute Kathy Augustine. 'Judy and I mourn deeply for the loss of our faculty member Kahy Augustine who had endeavored to the interest of our Ansian community. Our hearts and prayers go out to Kathy's family, friends and fellow members,' said Tony, " stated Dr. John Wang, Spokesman of WBTI, on July 15, 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CCDAPCC is the initial of Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission.

Kathy Augustine was the first woman to be elected Nevada State Controller. A former state Senator, she Chaired the Legislative Affairs and Operations Committee and was Vice Chairman of Taxation and the Human Resources and Facilities Committees. She also served as a State Assemblywoman.*1

She held a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Occidental College and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Cal State Long Beach.

She served as a Delegate to Russia and the Ukraine with the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) in 1993 and was selected as an Executive Committee Member to the Biennial Assembly of the Atlantic Association of Young Political Leaders (AAYPL) in Paris, France in 1995.*2

The husband of state Controller Kathy Augustine apparently tried to kill himself Friday morning, as suspicions surfaced about the circumstances surrounding his wife's unexpected death.*3

Chaz Higgs, 42, slit his wrists about 10:30 a.m. in the Las Vegas home he had shared with Augustine, according to Las Vegas police. Paramedics took him to University Medical Center, which had discharged him by evening.

Augustine died Tuesday at Washoe Medical Center, three days after Higgs said he found her unconscious in their Reno home. Higgs, a critical care nurse, said his wife died of an apparent heart attack.

Final autopsy results have not been released, but Reno Police Deputy Chief Jim Johns confirmed Friday that preliminary autopsy indications were that "there wasn't evidence of long-term heart disease."

Reno police and the state Division of Investigation were scrutinizing Augustine's death because she was only 50 years old and had no known history of heart trouble.*4

The state Division of Investigations on Thursday accepted a Reno Police Department request to join its investigation into the death of state Controller Kathy Augustine.*5

State investigators will be checking Augustine's Capitol office to make sure nothing is missing, said Steve George, a spokesman for Gov. Kenny Guinn.*6

"Gov. Kenny Guinn expressed extreme sorrow at the news of the tragic death today of State Controller Kathy Augustine, who succumbed to the consequences of a massive heart attack she suffered on July 8, 2006. Augustine, 50, had served as State Controller since 1999," stated Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn.

"We are all deeply saddened by the distressing news of someone so young and vibrant as Kathy Augustine passing away so unexpectedly," Gov. Guinn said. "On behalf of so many people in our state who knew Kathy and appreciated her dedication and hard work as Controller, I offer her family our heartfelt sympathy." *7

Kathy Augustine's funeral will be held at 9 a.m. in the morning on July 15, 2006 at Guardian Angel Cathedral, 302 Cathedral Way, just off the Strip.

The grand opening of the 28th Annual Convention of Taiwan Benevolent Association of America (TBAA) was held by its Chairperson Wendy Yu-ping Wu*4 at the Paris Hotel on July 30, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Concode C Room was full with participants from all around the world. Dr. Fu-Mei Chang, Overseas Chinese Affair Commission of the Republic of China; Ssu-yin Ho, Kuomintang Oversea Director; Mark W. P. Liao, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco; Lagislators of ROC S. C. Ting, Y. Y. Wu, S. H. Chou, W. C. Shieh, J. L Lin, among others presented at the Conference. Justice of the Supreme Court of Nevada Michael Douglas and Nevada Asemblywoman Valerie Weber each dilivered a nice and significant welcome speech. Greeting Letters and Cetificates were presented by Mr. Matthew McBride (for U. S. Senator John Ensign), Ms. Judith Ray (for U. S. Congressman James Gibbons), Ms. Gerri Schroder (for U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley), Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian (for Las Vegas City Mayor and Council), Councilwoman Stephanie S. Smith (for the North Las Vegas City Mayor and Council).

In the fastest growing state with the fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation, one of our biggest challenges is keeping up with the increasing demand on our highway system.

As Chairman of the State Transportation Board, I’ve seen firsthand the tremendous strides and accomplishments that Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has made in keeping up with this phenomenal growth while, at the same time, working diligently to ensure that new highway projects are constructed in a timely manner.

The state is currently in the midst of the largest highway construction program in our history, with more than $600 million in projects underway in Northern and Southern Nevada, and nearly $1 billion in new projects slated to begin in the next 12 months. These vital projects will reduce traffic congestion in populated areas, enhance safety, and enrich our economy by creating thousands of new jobs.

Southern Nevada projects include: constructing new north and southbound lanes on I-15 from the Bruce Woodbury Beltway (I-215) to Spring Mountain Road; constructing a new eight-lane facility on Blue Diamond Road (State Route 160) from Decatur to Rainbow boulevards; widening St. Rose Parkway; and widening Craig Road in North Las Vegas from Berg Street to Pecos Road from four lanes to six.

In addition, the new Hoover Dam Bridge project is scheduled for completion in 2008, and the widening of U.S. 95 to 10 lanes from the Spaghetti Bowl to Summerlin is expected to be completed in 2007. Recently completed projects aimed at reducing congestion include the I-215/Beltway Interchange in Henderson and the Freeway Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) Management Center in Las Vegas.

In Northern Nevada, the opening of the first phase of the Carson City freeway is relieving congestion along the northern portion of U.S. 395. The next phase—from U.S. 50 East, south to Fairview Drive—is expected to begin later this year. Other Northern Nevada projects underway include the I-580 freeway from Reno to Carson City; the widening of U.S. 50A from Fernley to Fallon, and U.S. 50 in Dayton; and the addition of truck-climbing lanes on I-80 westbound from Keystone Avenue to Robb Drive, and on U.S. 395 north from McCarran Boulevard to the Golden Valley interchange.

As Governor and as Chairman of the State Transportation Board, I have worked closely with NDOT to ensure that traffic in Nevada flows smoothly, safely, and efficiently along Nevada’s transportation system. In view of Nevada’s status as the nation’s fastest growing state for the past 19 years, I am proud of NDOT’s accomplishments in meeting the tremendous challenge of moving us into the 21st century.

Kenny Guinn, 69, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in Physical Education from Fresno State University and later obtained a doctorate in Education from Utah State University in Logan.

In 1994, Guinn was recruited by the University of Nevada Board of Regents to serve as interim president of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) was founded in January 8, 1996. We have produced distinguished scholars, successful entrepreneurs, and outstanding community leaders. For the time being, our vision of 2004 is to continue to put more wisdom and effort in encourageing those people who are outstanding in public administration, academic research, and community service. WBTI has established the Public Administration Institution (PAI) in order to meet the increasng investigation requirements of current public managers and special research needs of professional public administrators. It seeks to provide an awareness and understanding of the complex administrative and oganizational contexts within which the administrators of public service make and implement decisions; and to provide general technical competence in using the tools of public administration and information management.*1

Dr. William N. Thompson was appointed by WBTI as Fellow and Director of its Public Administration Institution (PAI) on January 18, 2000. "It has been an honorable gratifying to invite a famous professor of Dr. Bill Thompson's expertise, integrity, and good personal traits with highly international perspective to this Institute," Said President Dr. Tony Lei of WBTI on January 21, 2000. "Throughout Dr. Thompson's distinguished career and publication, he has been earned a good reputation as a conscientious and dedicated professional."

On March 3, 2000, Dr. Roy J. Adamson was appointed Fellow of PAI. "It's our gratifying honor to have Dr. Adamson, a famous Emeritus Professor from Pepperdine University to join us as one of our faculty member. The fellowship of Dr. Adamson with both of his expertise and integrity has brought PAI the milestone to an interstate research institution in the United States," said Dr. Tony Lei.

Nancy A. Becker was appointed by WBTI as Fellow of PAI on May 2, 2000. Nancy received her Juris Doctorate degree from George Washington University National Law Center in 1979. She is now a Justice of Nevada Supreme Court. She is the recipient of numerous honors. "It's our honor to invite a famous person of Justice Nancy Becker's excellenct caliber whose expertise, integrity, and good personal traits will bring this Institute wih a perspective of millennium," said Dr. Tony Lei on May 18, 2000. "Throughout her distinguished career, she has accomplished a great deal of judicial practices together with social services and has earned a good reputation of conscientious and dedicated professionalism."

As a born-again Christian, people had been inspired by U. S. Senator-elect John Ensign's sincerity, humanility, and credibility more than just his wealth and good looks in last November. In view of his admirable qualities, achievements, passion, and unshakable belief in building a better Nevada, WBTI led by Dr. Tony Lei, a fellow sincere believer, honored him as Advisor and Vice Chairman of its Advisory Board on November 8, 2000.

"One of my priorities will be 'telling the Pepperdine story' of quality and value to a large audience, reaching a broader demographic, and having a global range," said Dr. Andrew Benton at his Inauguaration as President of Pepperdine Univesity on September 23, 2000. "We need to strengthen Pepperdine's diversiy, its connection to its heritage, its sense of community and community involvement, and its scholarship and culture through faculty involvement in outside research and publishing."

"Chairman Thomas Bost of the Board of Regents believes that this new President is best equipped to lead Pepperdine to the next millennium with academic excellence and Christian values. Dr. William Bannosky, the school's fouth president, assures that the new president would seek the highest standads for academic and spiritual excellence," said Dr. Tony Lei who received his degrees of M.B.A. and Ed. D. (Doctor of Education) in Institutional Management from Pepperdine in 1969 and 1990, respectively.

On May 11, 2001, State Senator Terry Care, Chairman of the Democratic Party in Nevada, wrote Dr. Tony Lei: "I commend your work, the work of WBTI, and I wish to rely my respect for Justice Becker." For a special tribute to the Supreme Court Jusitice Nancy Becker and inducement of the Faculty of PAI of WBTI, a dinner and event party is held at Harbor Palace Seafood Restaurant by WBTI and Asian American Community today, May 23, 2001. Dr. Tony Lei is the first Chairman and sponsor of the event and dinner party.

"I truly appreciate your efforts on my behalf and your commitment to bring 100 people to the event at Cashman field on March 26th. It is only with the dedication and commitment of good people like youself that I will achieve my goal of becoming Governor of this great state. Dema and I can't thank you enough for your assistance and your positive activities in the community," wrote Governor Kenny Guinn to Dr. Tony Lei on March 6, 1998.

On December 5, 1999, the Office of Clark County Board of Commissioners presented the Proclamation to Dr. Tony Lei, which was signed and given by its Chairman and Commissioners: Chairman Bruce Woodbury, and Chairman; Vice-Chair Erin Kenny; Commissioners Yvonne Gates, Mary Kincaid, Lance Malone, Myrna Williams, and Dario Herrera. It states: "Dr. Tony Lei has served our community through a variety of venues. He has given freely of his time, energy, knowledge, and talents, working on projects and events that contribute to the quality of life in Clark County and has dedicated himself to public service to not only the Asian Community but to all citizens. Now, therefore, We, the Board of Clark County Commissioners, on this occasion, December 5, 1999, in celebration and recognition of his special accomplishments, do hereby recognize and honor Dr. Tony T. Lei, Ed. D. and urge all citizens to join us in wishing him a successful and bright future."*2

On October 1, 2002, the Office of Clark County Board of Commissioners presented the Proclamation to Dr. Tony Lei for his advanced contribution and accomplishment to the community, residents, and visitors of Nevada.

"As Director of Public Administration Institution (PAI) of WBTI, it's my privilege to share a leadership role with Dr. Tony Lei and to have the wonderful cooperation of all the faculty since PAI's establishment. Innovative in integrating his experience in institutional management and spiritual value in education, Dr. Tony Lei's wisdom and efforts towards community service and academic endeador have been very valuable. Bill is former Chairman and now Professor of the Department of Public Administration of UNLV. His son married a beautiful Chinese girl in Mongloria years ago. The Event and Party was held at the Charleston Height Arts Center on September 16, 2003, co-sponsored by WBTI, Arcata Associates, Kids for a Better Society, among others.

The spirit of both the innovation and entreprenuership has also motivated United States to be a leading and prosperous country. It is because that the broadband technology such as Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) has been more and more developed. Moreover, because of the popular building of radio communication networks, wireless techniques may access important information from the web and condense it to be appeared on the small web connecting machines such as a hand-held screen. The open free software LINUX operating system can even connect various stations very easilly. All these advancement in science and technology, should be used to inspire the promotion of the quality of our daily life. In this new era of information and web works, we should add humanity concern into our thinking structures. God created the world. Everything can be decided by Him. As the value of the fellowship of Public Administration Institution of WBTI growing, we the people with intelligence and knowledge in administration, technology, science should enjoy a valuable and joyful life to serve our community and society with our efforts and wisdom.

It is a general understanding that: If we are able to excel in a particular field of professional career, we will definitely have a better chance of gaining a foothold into society. Outstanding professional accomplishments enhanced with good community service is a practical and sincere way for us to integrate into American society and win the recognition by our mainsteam society and American people.*1

In this generation and society, we need economic compassion, in service above self, and in action of love and moral courage. Some people are of the "tell me what you wear, tell me what kind of car you drive, tell me what cards you carry, and I'll tell you who you are" culture. What do the people we admire have in common? These individuals have faith, respect and love, unabashed love. Love always transcends self. In its purest form, love is unconditional and an appreciation. The Greeks had a saying: People are known by the heroes they crown." Tell me whom you admire, and I will tell you who you are. Your choice of heroes reveals your personal traits.

We can work alongside each other. We can absorb each other's energy and discipline and commitment to inspire us and motivate us. Service beyond self is love in action. This is our creed and our calling. We stumble and splinter when we forget that goal. We unite and prosper when we remember it.

There are three major drives pushing and pulling us into the 21st century. (1) The neccessity and speed of change: Change is unavoidable for improement and innovation. Most of the change we face are permanent, pervasive, and profound. It is permanent, because few of us would want to uninvent microchip, to use a train instead of an airline as a business transportation from Los Angeles to New York, or abandon the medical advances that have extended and enhanced our lives. It is pervasive because the information highway has change our lives. Few parts of the way we live and work have escaped the effects of change. It is profound because we must reassess the sharing of our planet's resources. As individuals, we must reassess our values, ideals, and prejudices. As associations we must have effective actions to decrase the force of resistance-to-change successfully.

(2) Emphases of partnerships and alliances. Highly successful organizations have become circliar instead of flat. Each function is a link in a chain whose strength depends on the whole. Each is an alliance or partner with all the others. We need strong, supportive alliances because we need quick access to resources whether they are human, informational, financial, or material by nature.

(3) Member service to member focus: One of the important purposes of an association is all about having satisfied, happy, loyal, referral-bearing members. Our members' success is our success. We should put attention to the thre areas of members focus. The first one is member servicing, which is the operations part that we should do the task well. The second one is member relations, which is the human part that we may be better to have the one-on-one actions. The third one is member development which is the coordinating and retention part that brings satisfaction to every activity.
There are two principles at the heart of the positive thinking road map. (A) the first principle is truth in thinking uncover and eliminate self-limiting belief and attitudes. We need to establish "truth in thinking" by focusing on the facts and avoiding negative self-talk. Challenge our unrealistic belief by reorienting them in a more realistic, positive manner. We will think, feel, and act more confidently, thereby increasing the likehood for success.

(B) The second principle is the 12 positive thinking traits. "The following are 12 traits that characterize a positive thinker: (1) Optimism (2) Enthusiam (3) Belief (4) Intelligence (5) Courage (6) Integrity (7) Confidence (8) Judgement (9) Persistence (10) Liveliness (11) Vision (12) Desire to excel. Each traits, when leveraged properly, produces powerful results to achieve our goals. These traits, when diligently and wisely applied together with the truth in thinking, allow us to overcome obstacles and challenges in a positive manner in our lives for accomplishment," Dr. Tony Lei points out.

"Develop a clear vision of our prefered future, then get focused on key activities and efforts that take us in that direction. We shall see performance gains, achieve our goal and have a happier, more successful life. By pursuing our own personal strategic plans with love and service, we will increase our energies, motivations, satisfactions, happiness, and the worthy value of our lives," he continues.*3

"Because of his sincere and effective work performance in community service beside his academic endeavor, Dr. Tony Lei has received many important awards for his outstanding asccomplishments from U. S. Senators, U. S. Representatives, Nevada Governor, Las Vegas Mayor, Clark County Chairman, among others. It is obvious that man or woman is himself or herself a traveler. The good purpose for mankind in this world is not "to have and to hold" but "to give and serve." The service that we render to other people is really like the rent we pay for our room on this earth. We are sure that the people who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

***** When people are serving, life is no longer meaningless. ---John Gardner

***** One need not be a servant to be able to serve. ---Victor Frankl*2

It's our pleasure to post a short story from "Speaker's Source Book II" by Glenn Van Ekeren:

Twenty-five centuries ago, Lao-tse, a Chinese sage, offered this profound insight;
"The reason why rivers and seas receives the homage of a hundred mountain streams is that they keep below them. Thus they are able to reign over all the mountain streams. So the sage, wishing to be above men, putteth himself below them; wishing to be before them, he putteth himself behind them. Thus, though his place be above men, they do not feel his weight; though his place be before them, they do not count it an injury."
So it is with humankind. Those who wish to yield the greatest influence will unselfishly position themselves below others, so as to serve them better.
Bruce Barton told a parable two seas in Palestine that expounds on the wisdom of Lao-tse. One sea is flesh. Fish live in it. Trees and bushes grow near it. Children splash and paly in it. The river Jordan flows into this sea with sparkling water from the hills. People build their homes near it. Every kind of life is happier because it is there. The same river Jordan flows south into another sea. Here there are no fish, no green things, no children playing, no homes a building. Stale air hangs above its waters, and neither man nor beast will drink of it. What makes the difference between these neighbor seas? Not the Jordan River. It empties the same good water into both. Nor is the soil or the countryside.
The differnece is that the Sea of Galilee receives water but does not keep it. For every drop that flows in, another drop flows out. The giving and receiving go on in equal measure. The other sea hoards its income. Every drop it gets it keeps. The Sea of Galilee lives and lives. The other sea gives nothing. It is called the Dead Sea.
There are also two kinds of people in this world---those Dead Sea people who take without giving back, and the givers who remain fresh and vibrant by freely sharing of themselves.
