***** Las Vegas Mayor Kicks off Asian Heritage Month
Endorsing US-China Business and Trade Summit at Venetian/Palazzo, Las Vegas

***** Las Vegas, Nevada (May 3, 2009) ^^^ At the Mayor's office tomorrow, on May 4th - amid the backdrop of Asian Heritage Month, Mayor Oscar Goodman of Las Vegas plans to endorse a major U.S. ?China business and trade summit to be held at the Venetian/Palazzo from January 3rd ?5th, 2010.

Summit organizer, Chinese Restaurant News (CRN) is coming back to Las Vegas for the second year, bringing two major events within one symposium ?its 6th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurant News Awards Ceremony and the U.S. - China business and trade summit.

Following the Mayor's press conference, Councilwoman Gerri Schro(e)der from Henderson will be at a luncheon media event at the Zine Noodle & Dim Sum Restaurant, Las Vegas, where the Mayor's Proclamation for CRN and Asian Heritage Month will be read.

Las Vegas will host one of the country's largest gatherings of entrepreneurs, traders, and business leaders from both the U.S. and China under one summit. The Summit promises a number of other high-level officials from China including China International Nameplate Development Association (ICP), the China Council for the Promotion of Nationalities Trade (CCPNT), and the China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC).

Other global leaders invited to the summit include high profile keynote speakers from organizations such as the U.S. Census 2010, the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Small Business Administration, Asian American Business Development Center, Invest in New York, and the National Restaurant Association, among others.

The unprecedented gathering of investors and project recruiters has opportunities to connect and facilitate business transactions between both countries. Along with forum discussions, cultural exchanges, and investment opportunities, the summit will also host the 6th Annual Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in USA Awards Ceremony and Conference.

Betty Xie, Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Restaurant News says, "This event is the first of its kind and will bring people back to Las Vegas despite the slump in the economy - with more than a thousand attendees expected."

The massive summit could give Mayor Goodman's city a much needed economic boost. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, 2.8 million people visited Vegas in January, which represents a nearly 12 percent decline compared to last year.

"There is a lot of history in Ward I, and a lot of potential for the future. Much of Ward I takes in the original township site where the City of Henderson began more than 50 years ago, and it is a privilege for me to represent such an important part of our city," City of Herderson Ward I - Councilwoman Gerri Schroder pointed out.*101 "Ward I is also the site of some tremendous opportunities for our future. From the Nevada State College, to our downtown redevelopment efforts, to our new Heritage Park site, great things are happening all throughout Ward I."

"I hope you will take the time to look around and become more familiar with all the great things going on in our city, and especially in Ward I," Gary has a vision with practice.*102 "This area is important to me and I am excited for what it means for the future of Henderson. Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy learning why so many people every year continue to join us here and make their lives in Henderson, a place to call home."

Clinton returns to Oklahoma bombing site for tour
By Sean Murphy, Associated Press Writer 2 hrs 33 mins ago (... AP, Associated Press, Yahoo! Mail, lvrj/wbti U.S.A., and among others ....... .) [For an internal research references of a draft. Not for printing, or publishing please. Thank you!]

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bill Clinton recalled the profound impact of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing on the nation and his presidency during a private tour of a memorial and museum honoring the 168 people killed.

The former president announced Saturday he is joining an honorary national board of trustees that will promote the privately operated Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. Clinton was president when the powerful truck bomb tore through the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995.

On his fifth visit to the site, the former president declared that the resilience of Oklahomans in the bombing aftermath shows people can draw strength from one another and prevail while confronting "the worst in humanity."

"My life has been indelibly marked by the people I met here," Clinton said Saturday in addressing about 200 museum supporters, bombing survivors and former rescue workers. "I came here, more than anything else, to say 'Thank You.'"

He added: "The memories I have here ... have changed my life, and I think, fundamentally changed the lives of the nation."

Others joining Clinton on the honorary board are former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge; the Rev. Billy Graham, who led a National Prayer Service days after the bombing; former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating and his wife Cathy; and Lee Woodruff, author and wife of TV news reporter Bob Woodruff, who was critically injured in Iraq.

Clinton also was honored with the Beacon of Hope Award for supporting the memorial. The award was carved from wood taken from a limb of the memorial's Survivor Tree and mounted on a base of granite that had been salvaged from the shattered Murrah Building.

The trustees are to work with the staff and board of the memorial to advance its mission of remembrance and education, said Bill Scheihing, chairman of the Oklahoma National Memorial Foundation.

Clinton's "presence on the national board will provide both historic perspective and the committed passion of someone who bore witness to both the tragedy and to the hope this place represents for future generations," Scheihing added.

He said the national board will help with fundraising efforts for the memorial, which is privately owned and operated. The memorial and museum are sustained through museum admissions and sales, a marathon, private fundraising and earnings from an endowment currently at about $14 million, Scheihing said.

(The following information is just for an internal research reference of a draft only. Not for printing or publishing please. Thank you very much!)

By Yip Fong (葉芳)

(Just for an internal research reference. Not for printing or publishing please. Thank you very much!)

Backing Off, Part One
by Charles R. Swindoll *1002

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Kids are nutty.

Some friends of ours in Texas have two little girls. The younger child is constantly on the move, rarely winding down by bedtime. So the nightly affair has become something of a familiar routine. A story from her favorite book. A drink of water. A prayer. A song. Her doll. Another drink of water. A kiss. A hug. A third sip of water. A trip to the bathroom. A warning. Another kiss. You know, the whole bit.

One night her dad decided he'd be Mr. Nice Guy, the epitome of patience and tolerance. He did it all. Not once did he lose his cool. When Miss Busybody finally ran out of requests, her daddy slipped out of the room, heaved a sigh of relief, and slumped into his favorite chair by the fireplace. Before he could stretch out and relax, however, there was a piercing scream from the jitterbug's room. Startled, he dashed down the hall and rushed to her bedside. Great tears were rolling down the little girl's face.

"What's wrong? What happened?"
"I burnt my tongue."
Baffled, he tried again, "You what?"
"I burnt my tongue!" she yelled.
"How in the world did you do that?" he asked.
"I licked my night-light."

That really happened. She couldn't control her curiosity. She simply had to discover how it would feel to lick that little thing that glowed so warmly and serenely by her bed. Rude was her awakening to the fact that lights are strictly for lighting . . . not licking. And tongues are made for tasting . . . not testing. You and I realize that the best thing our little friend could have done was to stay in bed, keep her tongue to herself, and allow the light to fulfill its appointed function.

But she didn't---and she got burned.

In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Solomon, the wise, passes along to us a list of various types of "appointed times" on earth. Among them he mentions

a time to heal . . . a time to shun embracing . . . a time to give up as lost . . . a time to be silent

I see in these words of counsel one strong undercurrent of advice: BACK OFF! It is often wise to relax our intensity, refuse to force an issue, allow nature to take its course, "let sleeping dogs lie." Backing off, says Solomon, provides opportunity for healing to occur, opportunity for perspective to break through the storm clouds of emotion and illuminate a difficult situation with a fresh understanding.

When the time is right, things flow very naturally, very freely. To rush or force creates friction-scars that take years to erase. Take it from one who has learned this difficult lesson the hard way---keep a tight bridle on your tongue, relax, and settle for a good night's sleep. Otherwise, you're going to get pushy, you're going to get caught with your tongue in the wrong place . . . and you're going to get burned.
