[[[ Meet American People with one of our Distinguished Authors Hillary Clinton!*1 (To be continued ...) ]]]

The night before February 5
Clinton wbti: Vision, Innovation, and Heart!
By Hillary Rodham Clinton

Dear judy,

Come Monday night, we'll be only hours away from millions of people in 22 states heading out to make their voices heard.*2

So what I want to do Monday night is the kind of campaigning I love the most -- talking with people, listening to their questions, and sharing our hopes and dreams for America's future.

Will you be a part of this special opportunity to share ideas with people all across the country?

We're planning our Voices Across America town hall meeting. This event -- one of the biggest town hall meetings America has ever seen -- will be broadcast live Monday night on Hallmark Channel starting at 9 p.m. EST. Or you can watch it live on HillaryClinton.com.

I really hope you'll tune in -- and, if you can, get your friends and family to join you. But there's an even more immediate way you can help. Take a moment to send me the question you'd most like to ask me at this crucial time in our campaign.

I'll be taking questions from audience members in New York and in 21 other locations in states that will be voting the following day. We'll all be connected by satellite, and I'll take questions from online supporters like you.

Better still, we'll choose one person who submits a question online to come out to New York and ask their question in person.

I hope you'll join me Monday night at 9 p.m. EST either by watching on Hallmark Channel or on HillaryClinton.com.

And if you send me your question today, who knows, you might just get to join me in New York!

Click here to send me your question.

We've made listening and learning a big part of our campaign from the very beginning. So I'm really excited about what we have planned for Monday night. It will be a great evening of conversation followed by a great day of victory.

Thanks so much for all you are doing. This is a remarkable experience we are going through and I'm so glad you're a part of it.*3

All the best,

(Autograph)
Hillary Rodham Clinton

About U. S. Senator Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Rodham Clinton is a United States Senator of New York. As a Senator, she has continued her advocacy for children and families and has been a national leader on homeland security and national security issues.
She is married to Bill Clinton, the U. S. 42nd President. From 1993 to 2001, Hillary was the First Lady of the United States. As a candidate in the 2008 United States presidential election, she has consistently been the front-runner in polls for the Democratic nomination.
During her years as First Lady of the United States, she was successful in several areas, such as establishing the Children's Health Insurance Program in 1997.
Hillary's commitment to health care for every American has never wavered. She was instrumental in designing and championing the State Children's Health Insurance Program, which has provided millions of children with health insurance. She battled the big drug companies to force them to test their drugs for children and to make sure all kids get the immunizations they need through the Vaccines for Children Program. Immunization rates dramatically improved after the program launched.
Her 1995 book "It Takes A Village," about the responsibility we all have to help children succeed, became an international best seller. The Lady has donated the proceeds -- more than a million dollars -- to children's causes across the country. Her autobiography, "Living History," was also a best seller. The book has been translated into 12 languages and sold over 1.3 million copies.
In 2000, Hillary was elected to the United States Senate from New York. As Senator, Hillary has continued her advocacy for children and families and has been a national leader on homeland security and national security issues.
U. S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was re-elected by a wide margin in 2006. New Yorkers reelected her to the U. S. Senate with 67 percent of the vote. She is now campaigned by her husband, former U. S. President Bill Clinton, and supporters for the United States President. U. S. Senator Hillary R. Clinton is one of the Distinguished Authors of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI).

Honoring Our Veterans - The 40th Anniversary of the Tet Offensive
By Harry M. Reid

[To WBTI at 013108 from Senator Harry Reid {senator_harry_reid@enews.senate.gov}]

Reid: Tet Offensive Forever Altered The Course Of The Vietnam War
Senator honors Nevadans who died during Vietnam War

Senator Harry Reid made the following statement today on the floor of the U.S. Senate to commemorate the victories of the U.S. forces during the Tet Offensive in Vietnam:

Below are his remarks as prepared for delivery:

溺r. President, I rise today, the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Tet Offensive, to commemorate the valor and courageousness with which our Armed Forces fought to repel this massive attack.

徹ver the holiday recess, I was fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time in my home state of Nevada. While at home, I met with several Veterans at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1753 in Las Vegas. After talking with them for quite a while, it was brought to my attention that we were only a few weeks away from the 40th anniversary of the onset of the Tet Offensive. In order to ensure that the heroism of our troops who fought in these arduous battles was not overlooked on this milestone anniversary, I told my friends at VFW Post 1753 that I would honor their sacrifices and the sacrifices of their fellow Nevadans and call attention to this important occasion on the floor of the United States Senate.

擢rom a tactical standpoint, the Tet Offensive would result in one of America痴 most convincing victories over the combined forces of the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army (NVA), yet few Americans recall the decisiveness with which our troops routed the surprise onslaught. Many mistakenly believe that Tet was a military defeat, significant for the enemy痴 ability to launch a large-scale attack on the U. S. and South Vietnamese forces. It is time to correct this mistaken impression and recognize the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines in achieving victory during the Tet Offensive.

鄭s many Hollywood films have since immortalized, the surprise attacks began in full during the early morning hours of January 31, 1968, the Vietnamese lunar New Year holiday known as Tet. A few months earlier, the governments of North and South Vietnam had agreed to observe a seven-day truce from January 27 to February 3, 1968, in honor of the national holiday. With the Tet Truce abruptly violated, America痴 servicemembers regrouped to defend what would be the largest military operation conducted by either side up to that point in the conflict.

展ithstanding major assaults at Hue, Khe Sanh, and Saigon, our Armed Forces quickly turned the tide on the surprise offensive and delivered major tactical blows to both the Viet Cong and NVA. Most of the attack had been successfully repelled by mid-February with few notable exceptions, such as fighting at the coastal port of Hue, which continued into early March. When the dust settled, tens of thousands of Communist troops had died during the massive ambush, while 1,536 U.S. and non-Vietnamese allies perished in the violence and over 7,700 others were wounded or declared missing.

泥espite America痴 impressive tactical victories in the aftermath of the original attacks, the Tet Offensive forever altered the course of the Vietnam War. Although the Tet Offensive would serve as a major blow in the court of American public opinion, we must never forget the resolve and bravery of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines, who fought a determined enemy and defended the freedoms of those who could not defend themselves.

泥uring the difficult times of today, when America remains at war abroad against another committed enemy, I believe we must all remember to take the necessary time and pay our deepest respects to those servicemembers who have fallen in years past. I certainly will never forget the 151 Nevadans who died during the course of the entire Vietnam War, many of whom would meet their eventual fate defending the South during the Tet Offensive. To all of those valiant Americans who fought during this mightiest of struggles, our nation is eternally grateful for your sacrifice in turning what could have been one of our darkest hours into yet another great victory in the annals of our nation痴 rich military history.

Before midnight
By Barack Obama

[To WBTI at Thu, 31 Jan 2008 15:19:29 -0500 from U. S. Senator Barack Obama {info@barackobama.com}]

**--**

mike --

I have some news for you today.

In the hours before Iowans went to their local caucuses four weeks ago, the 500,000th person donated to our campaign.

It took us nearly a year to grow that unprecedented base of individual donors. We rejected donations from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs and relied on ordinary people to take ownership of this campaign -- and the result was more donors than any presidential primary campaign has had in history.

Here's the news today: so far in January alone, more than 224,000 people have given to this campaign.

If we can reach 250,000 donors for January by midnight tonight, it will show the undeniable strength and incredible momentum of our grassroots movement.

If you give today, another supporter like you will match your donation. Make your first online donation now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

These 224,000 people are giving whatever they can afford -- more than ninety percent of our donors this year have given $100 or less.

But what's even more inspiring is that they are also making phone calls, knocking on doors, planning local events, and even serving as Precinct Captains in the 22 states that will vote on Tuesday.

These are not just donors -- they are organizers doing the kind of local, grassroots organizing that is the foundation of real change. Together we are seizing this moment to upend the tired politics of the past and usher in a new era of active citizenship in our party and in our democracy.

From our historic victory in Iowa in the first days of 2008 through our resounding win in South Carolina last Saturday, January has been the most critical time of the campaign so far.

Hitting this goal of 250,000 donors will close out this historic month. And the fresh momentum and energy will carry us through the 22 state contests on February 5th and beyond.

This is an incredible moment, and I hope you will take time now to help reach this goal:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Thank you for being part of this,

Barack

Dear judy,

As our campaign speeds towards next Tuesday's all-important contests, support is pouring in online from across the country. At this critical moment in the campaign, you are stepping up for Hillary.

In the coming hours, our campaign staff will sit down and make the last-minute decisions about where we will run more TV and radio ads, where we need to dispatch teams of organizers and volunteers, and where we have the resources to get our message out to more voters.

This is a decisive, no-holding-back moment for our campaign. The next 20 hours are absolutely critical.

Let's give it everything we've got.

Contribute now to help Hillary win decisive victories next Tuesday.

There's more at stake this Tuesday than on any other day in this primary election, and we're putting everything into these 22 races.

Hillary is pouring herself heart and soul into reaching as many voters as possible. She has never needed us by her side more than she does right now. Let's match her effort with our commitment.

Contribute now to help Hillary win big on February 5.

We can't leave a single stone unturned. With your support we are going to change our country.

Thanks for all that you do.

Sen. Obama Replied with all YESES
By S.B.Woo

[To WBTI from S.B.Woo {sbw@80-20.us} at Thu, 31 Jan 2008 17:21:37 -0800 (PST)]

After negotiations between 80-20 and the Obama campaign, 80-20 has
agreed to modify the wording of two questions in its questionnaire. With
these modifications, the Obama campaign has agreed to answer 土es to all
of the questions in the questionnaire. 80-20 appreciates the Obama
campaign痴 efforts to reach an amicable solution and applauds the
campaign for reaffirming its strong commitment to increasing the number
of Asian Americans in the federal judiciary and the enforcement of
Executive order 11246 to ensue equal opportunity for Asian Americans in
work places.

80-20 considers the commitment from Senator Obama to Asian
American issues to be at least as strong as the commitment from Senator
Clinton, Senator Edwards, and Governor Richardson. Henceforth, with the
exception of California, 80-20 is neutral in the primary contests between
Senator Clinton and Senator Obama.

OLD Q4 If elected, will you within your first term of office increase the
nomination of qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III life-tenured
federal judges, whenever such vacancies are available until the current
dismal situation is significantly remedied? [To put things in perspective,
not meaning to imply quota, presently there are 0.6% Asian Am. Federal
judges, while the Asian Am. population is 4.5% and the % of Asian Am
legal professionals in laws firms of 100 or larger is at least 5.3%.]

NEW Q4: If elected, will you make it a top priority of your Administration
to nominate qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III life-tenured
District Court federal judges, whenever such vacancies are available?

OLD Q5: If elected, will you nominate within your first term of office
qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III Circuit Judges, whenever
there are vacancies in those positions, until the current dismal situation is
significantly remedied? [To put things in perspective, none of the 179
Article III Circuit judges is an Asian American.]?

NEW Q5 : If elected, will you make it a top priority of your Administration
to nominate qualified Asian Americans to serve as Article III Circuit
Judges, whenever there are vacancies in those positions?

To see Sen. Obama's signed reply, please click on
http://www.80-20initiative.net/news/preselect2008.asp .

80-20 wishes to thank Dr. John Levinson of Delaware and Chris Lu of
Senator Obama's campaign for their great effort in seeking a win-win
solution. The above described agreement not only helps Asian
Americans achieve equal opportunity but also helps nudge America
towards "a more perfect Union."

Now that the two remaining Democratic presidential candidates have
both replied to 80-20's questionnaires with all yeses, 80-20 will focus on
getting the Republican presidential candidates to make the same
commitment. We urge all Asian Americans to work with 80-20 to achieve
that noble goal that will be so beneficial to our children. History
beckons. UNITED, we shall overcome.

Joyfully yours,

S.B. Woo, Exec. Comm., 80-20 PAC, Inc.

I'm with Obama
By Edward M. Kennedy

[ To WBTI at Wed, 30 Jan 2008 16:24:26 -0500 from U. S. Sen. Ted Kennedy {info@barackobama.com)]

Dear mike,

When I endorsed Barack Obama on Monday, I was also endorsing a candidate with the power to transform America.

As President Kennedy said in 1960, "It is time for a new generation of leadership."

This campaign is about a new generation of leadership today. A generation ready to be part of something bigger than themselves. A generation ready to change the country, and a generation ready to change the world.

I'm doing everything I can to elect Barack Obama. With less than a week before my state and 21 others make their voices heard, there is no time to lose.

Please join me by making a $50 donation now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/newgeneration

Like my son Patrick and my niece Caroline, I have found a new generation of leadership for America in Barack Obama -- and I hope you have too!

Sincerely,

Senator Edward M. Kennedy

P.S. -- You may have already seen clips of my speech or parts of it on Monday. But take a look here. The energy in that room was amazing, and it's spreading across America:

Barack Obama will bring real change to our Iraq policy
By Patrick Murphy

[To WBTI from U. S. Rep. Patrick Murphy {info@johnkerry.com} at Mon, 28 Jan 2008 10:58:44 -0600]

Dear Friend,

Coming out of an historic South Carolina victory, it's crunch time heading into February 5th -- and this week I'll be introducing you to some voices in the johnkerry.com community who share my commitment to electing Barack Obama President of the United States. First up: Representative Patrick Murphy, an Iraq War veteran whom many of you supported in his first race for Congress.

Thanks,

John Kerry

------------------------

Exactly four years ago today, I returned home from Iraq. Nineteen of my fellow paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne weren稚 as lucky. I witnessed George Bush痴 failed strategy firsthand and was determined to do something about it and start bringing our troops home. Now, as the first and only Iraq war veteran in Congress, I take seriously my responsibility to call for a new foreign policy, and to making sure our nation fulfills its promise to my fellow veterans.

We need a President who has the vision, the judgment, and the courage to make this change become a reality. Barack Obama will be that President.

From the beginning, Barack had the foresight to speak out against the war and the Bush Administration's terrible mismanagement of it.

Barack Obama will put an end to Bush痴 policy blunders and bring our troops home safely and responsibly. Barack and I introduced the Iraq De-escalation Act. (You can view details of our plan at my website, www.murphy08.com.)

Our bill calls for clear benchmarks, a clear timeline for redeployment and a strategic strike force to combat al Qaeda. Most importantly, this redeployment from Iraq will give our military the personnel and equipment it needs to redouble its efforts at destroying al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. We need Senator Obama's comprehensive approach to foreign policy and we need to make sure that we are fighting on the right battlefields.

Barack Obama will bring a new approach to foreign policy, one that understands the world as it really is. He will restore our reputation around the globe and end the Bush vision of foreign policy as a political weapon. And when a Republican candidate tells us that we値l be in Iraq for 100 years, we know that a change in foreign policy can稚 wait one more day.

Barack is also committed to getting our veterans proper treatment. He is the grandson of a World War II veteran and serves on the Senate痴 Veteran痴 Affairs Committee, which just passed the largest increase in veterans benefits in the 77 year history of the Veterans Administration. As President, he pledged to have a "zero tolerance" policy for homelessness among our veterans. On any given night, there are 200,000 veterans living on the streets in this country. As President, Barack will end this injustice.

But to truly change our nation's direction, we need more than just new policies. We need you. A few weeks ago, I was up in New Hampshire door-knocking and talked with a 20-year old woman named Julie. She and her brother were supporting Senator Obama. She said, "My brother is a Marine who just left for his fourth deployment in Iraq. We feel that if Obama is our next Commander-in-Chief, he won稚 have to go back for a fifth deployment."

That is what this election is about. I know Senator Obama has a rare ability to lead that doesn't come along very often. We need a fundamental change both at home and abroad, and I believe Barack Obama will bring about that change if we give him a chance.

Thank you,

Patrick Murphy

U.S. Representative, (D) PA-08

Innovation is practical for a real need. It is not a random process. "When it works, it works because someone has identified a real need, and found a way to bring new ideas or new technologies to bear on that need," said Lewis W. Lehr. An innovator's life is governed by "to create" lists. She or he is incessantly pursuing new possibilities and refinning existing ones.

To invent is an innovation. To imitate is also a kind of innovation (especially at those time of 'Japen is the first!') Dr. Tony Lei's "Anything happens in Nevada stays in Nevada" in the middle of a paragraph, which we the faculty members did together as a research study (to inspire a new meaning through the process of "refinning" for our winning in Nevada Caucases on January 19, 2008), is both an imitation and innovation (with reference mentioned). Though we are happy to find culumnists or reporters in politics, economics, or business used it as their title of articles, but is it very nice if they put it (seperately from its original integration) as their invention loudly without a reference mentioned? For ourselves, we should be more humble. Humble is one of our best policies. Probably, is it the thing we did here nevertheless to win your a 'laugh loud and long" to us because we do not have sexual bodies for a sure draw of many visitors?

President Dr. Tony Lei: People are more willing to believe what the 40th U. S. President Ronald Reagan quoted, "To grasp and hold a vision, that is the very essence of successful leadership---not only on the movie set where I learned it, but everywhere." It is quite interesting for people to try the "stratagem" invented by famous Frank A. Clark, "I think the next best thing to solve a problem is finding some humor in it."

Tonight, I'm taking my case directly to the voters one last time before the biggest day of the primary race. Of all the conversations I've had during this campaign, the one I am having tonight is one of the most important. I hope that you'll join me.

The Voices Across America national town hall starts tonight at 9 p.m. EST. I'll be taking questions from the audience in New York, from those you've submitted via my website, and from 21 other locations in February 5 states. You can tune in on Hallmark Channel or watch it streamed live over my website at HillaryClinton.com.

I'm going to listen to people's questions and tell them how much we can achieve if we work together to restore our economy, end the war in Iraq, and reclaim the promise of the American dream. And I'm going to ask them to join you and me on the journey we've begun -- a journey that will continue until we achieve critical goals like universal health care for all Americans.

I hope you will watch our town hall this evening. And, I hope you'll reach out to friends and family in states that are voting tomorrow so I can have one last chance to make sure they hear our message of change, opportunity, and leadership before they cast one of the most crucial votes of their lives.

You've done so much for me over the past year. I know this journey would not have been possible without you by my side, and I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am. Thank you so much for all you do.

Sincerely,

A big win
By Barack Obama

[To WBTI at Sat, 26 Jan 2008 21:56:36 -0500
from U. S. Senator Barack Obama (info@barackobama.com)]

mike --

We've just won a big victory in South Carolina.

After four great contests in every corner of this country, and another record turnout today, we have the most votes, the most delegates, and the most diverse coalition of Americans we've seen in a long, long time.

More than 20 states will have their voices heard on February 5th, and we will need your help there, too.

I'll be heading down shortly to thank our supporters in South Carolina.

If you're reading this tonight, I hope you'll tune in at home so I can thank you, too.

Barack

Nevada GOVERNOR Jim Gibbons ADDS ADVISORS ON HEALTHCARE!
Andrew Benton wbti: President Dr. Tony Lei has promoted Nancy Oesterle from Assistant Fellow to Associate Fellow of the Public Administration Institution, WBTI
By Office of the Governor (NV), Melissa Subbotin, and Jennifer Kung

Governor Jim Gibbons said today that he had expanded his special healthcare issues advisory element to include representatives from several medical specialties and from both Northern and Southern Nevada to serve with Dr. Ikram Khan, who was named last week. The panel will provide the Governor with advice on healthcare policy and issues concerning healthcare providers, purchasers of healthcare, consumers, and health insurers.*1

The new members include: Dr. Florence Jameson, an OB/GYN in Clark County and board member and past chair of the Clark County Medical Society; Dr. Michael J. Fischer, an ophthalmologist in Carson City and a past president of the Nevada State Medical Association; Dr. Rudy Manthei, former Chair of the Governor's Healthcare Transition Committee and Chair of Keep our Doctors in Nevada; Dr. M. Nafees Nagy, a southern Nevada oncologist and president of the Nevada Cancer Center and past vice chair of the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners; and Dr. James Colgan, a urologist and Medical Director of Physician痴 Managed Care, Inc. and one of the founding members of Physician Select Management, a physician owned medical management company in Carson City, Nevada.

典hese well qualified medical professionals will help me assess the unique demands on the healthcare community in Nevada as we prepare for upcoming legislative activity as well as identify solutions to problems, such as our large uninsured population, Governor Gibbons said.*2

[[[ "Through the recommendations by our faculty members including Nevada District Judge Valorie Vega and Sheriff Bill Young of Southern Nevada, Miss Nancy C. Oesterle has been promoted from Assistant Fellow to Associate Fellow of Public Administration Institution (PAI) by Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) on December 23, 2004," announced Dr. John Wang, Spokesman of WBTI, on Friday, December 24, 2004 in Las Vegas, Nevada.(*1)

"It's a great venue for me to endeavor my effort and interest to education and community service. Through the cooperation and development among business, academic institute, and government, we're expecting to promote the quality of living conditions for all our residents and visitors of Nevada," said Chief Justice of the Peace Nancy C. Oesterle after she was being promoted.

Miss Nancy Oesterle is a judge. She holds the Department 6 Justice of the Peace position. Judge Nancy Oesterle was appointed to the Las Vegas Justice Court Bench in December of 1990 and became the first female ever appointed in its 89 year history. She has been re-elected to that position twice and has been Chief Judge of Las Vegas Justice Court twice. ]]] *3

The Governor emphasized that the newly formed advisory group 妬s not a regulatory entity in any way, but is there to offer ongoing, creative assistance in all areas of healthcare. Healthcare issues are important to all Nevadans and to our quality of life. I welcome the insights and input of this panel of experts.

[[[ "Even with the constancy of his presidential responsblities, Tony (Dr. Tony T. Lei) carved out time and energy during the past three years with wisdom and knowledge through the cooperation of Dr. William Thompson to create the blueprint for the Institution that ultimately paved the way for the 2000 openning of our Public Administration Institution (PAI) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI)," said Justice of the Supreme Court Nancy Becker for "Nevada Examiner" on June 30, 2000.

In January 2000, Dr. Tony T. Lei and Dr. William Thompson established the Public Administration Institution (PAI) for WBTI. It has Dr. Thompson as its Fellow and Director; and Nevada State Senator and Professor of UNLV Dina Titus, Justice of the Supreme Court Nancy Becker, Former Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, and Dr. Archie H. Chang as its Fellows; and District Judges Mark Denton, Valorie Vega, Michelle Leavitt, Jennifer Togliatti, and Jessie Walsh as its Associate Fellows.(*4)

"As the Director of Public Administration Institution (PAI) of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI), I've shared a pleasant leadership with Dr. Tony Lei cooperated by all the Faculty members of this Institution since it's establishment on January 18, 2000. Innovated in integreting his expertise in institutional management and spiritual value in education, Dr. Tony Lei's effort and wisdom for the community service in Nevada in the recent eight years have been very valuable. We expect Pan Pacific and Asian American Forum (PPAAF) founded by this Institute in September 28, 2001 will contribute to improve the quality of life for people and the prosperity of State for Nevada," said Dr. William Thompson, UNLV Professor of Public Administration and former Chairman of Department of Public Administration, at a Dinner Party of celebration held by WBTI in the Gee Joon Chinese Restaurant of Horseshoe Club on January 28, 2002 in Las Vegas.(*5) ]]] *4

In the Midsummer Night's Las Vegas at the time before last year, "..., Tony, this is not Nancy Saitta or Nancy Becker. ... We're almost the same in good voice. ... It's good being with you and all the many Asian American people last event and party in Las Vegas! ... Did you receive my literatures of achievement from my office? ...," laughed Judge Nancy Oesterle during her phone call to Dr. Tony Lei on the other side.

"Judge Nancy Oesterle (a beauty queen if her internet picture is for real) is so attractive that she has been approached to host her own courtroom show. (Judge Ito, eat your heart out!). This combination of movie star judge, acquitted former athlete set in the neon land of Las Vegas bodes well for good ratings. I was not surprised to see that the Wall Street Journal's on-line MarketWatch predicts that a Simpson trial may adversely affect the television ratings of the Beijing Summer Olympics!" posted the 'WGN Radio - THE OJ CONCENTRATE' through the world leading search engines (Google.com) on Internet.*5

Yucca Mountain Update
President Dr. Tony Lei: Let us stand by Senator Harry Reid's side again to fight for the benifits of all our residents and visitors in Nevada!
By Harry M. Reid

[To WBTI from U. S. Senator Harry Reid on January 24, 2008, (senator_harry_reid@enews.senate.gov), in Washington, D.C.]

Dear Friends:

As you may have already heard, some of my colleagues in the U.S. Senate have introduced a bill to fast track the storage of nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. Let me be perfectly clear, this bill is dead on arrival. I will use every ounce of my power to ensure that this irresponsible bill never sees the light of day.*1

Allow me to share with you some of the worst aspects of this last ditch effort to revive the Yucca Mountain Project. First, this bill would allow Yucca Mountain to operate as an interim storage facility for 300 years without requiring an environmental radiation standard in place. We already know that they cannot build a waste dump at Yucca Mountain that would permanently isolate waste from the environment, so this bill instead says that we should put off environmental standards for 300 years, thus ensuring that radiation leaks into Nevada痴 environment even sooner than it would under current law.

This bill would completely gut the Nuclear Regulatory Commission痴 (NRC) process for reviewing a license application for Yucca Mountain. The NRC痴 process is already stacked against Nevada. Under this proposal, the Department of Energy (DOE) could receive a license from the NRC with even less scientific evidence for health and safety protection than under current law.

This dangerous bill also takes away the NRC痴 authority to consider operation of a rail line for transporting nuclear waste in its decision to approve or disapprove the Yucca Mountain license application. This is in spite of the NRC痴 responsibility to regulate the safety and security of spent fuel transportation. The authors clearly don稚 want experts to scrutinize the DOE痴 transportation plans because they know how risky they are.

I haven稚 fought against this ill-fated project for more than 20 years to see something like this happen to our state. I pledge to you, that as the Senate Majority Leader, I will ensure that this bill never becomes law.

Thank you for standing by my side in this fight. We have made a great deal of progress together, and if we continue to stand strong, we will overcome any effort to force this awful project on the state of Nevada.*2

About U. S. Senator Harry Reid:

U. S. Senator Harry M. Reid is the Majority Leader (the Democratic Leader) in the U. S. Senate. He is a man who commands the respect of colleagues from both parties, and a powerful advocate for Nevada。ッs middle-class families.
But he still lives in Searchlight 。ュ and he is still guided by the lessons and values he learned there.
The Las Vegas Sun newspaper summarized Reid。ッs story by saying that he 。。緝as gone from underdog to Senate。ッs top dog.。。?Parade Magazine, the nation。ッs largest weekly magazine, identified Senator Reid as one of a handful of leaders in Washington with 。。緤ntegrity and guts.。。?
Since Nevadans elected him to the Senate in 1986, Harry Reid has developed a reputation as a consensus builder and a skillful legislator. Even his Republican colleagues praise his reasoned, balanced approach.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) has said, 。。絽e all respect Senator Reid. He is one of the moderate voices around here who tries to get things to work.。。?
And former GOP Leader Trent Lott said, 。。紿arry Reid is out there finding a solution. I enjoy working with him very much.。。?
He was elected to the Senate in 1986, and re-elected in 1992, 1998 and 2004. He has served as the chairman or senior Democratic member on several important committees and subcommittees.
Reid is a tireless worker, and it isn。ッt unusual for him to be the first Senator of either party to arrive at the Capitol in the morning and the last to go home at night.
U. S. Senator Harry Reid has been honored as a Professor of Administrative Strategies of the Graduate School of Business and Public Administration of Washington Business and Technology Institute (WBTI) since May 31, 2003.

"Dear Dr. Lei, Thank you for your message. It is that time again when I must run for re-election. I have 2 opponents so I will be in a primary and a general election. It is going to be a very busy year for me. Please let me know when you hear about community events. I will try and attend as many as I can. Say hello to Judy for me. I hope all is well with you, and happy new year! Best wishes," wrote Cheryl B. Moss, District Court Judge of Nevada, in Las Vegas on January 20, 2008.*8

President Dr. Andrew K. Benton of Pepperdine University inspired us, "Reaching up, reaching beyond, always pressing forward; this is the passion of the human spirit." We are certainly being challenged! His message on "Progress and Promises" has brought us a brilliant vision with professionalism, integrity, and righteous practice.
