Our Moment -- Our Movement!
Together, we can create a better tomorrow for our Earth if we seize this vital moment
By Al Gore*1

[[[ Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit (Plume) (Paperback)
by Al Gore (Author) "I was standing in the sun on the hot steel deck of a fishing ship capable of processing a fifty-ton catch on a good day..." (more) {Qouted by the Editor of this flier.} ]]]*2

Dear Friend,

A few weeks ago I read John and Teresa's book, This Moment on Earth. I found the stories within, about men and women fighting the great fight for our environment, to be a profound challenge to all of us. These activists provide valuable lessons on the power of people working for change. If we embrace their resourcefulness, determination and essential patriotism we will prevail in the fight to save our planet.*3

I was inspired by their work, and I know you will be too. You can purchase a copy of This Moment on Earth at your local bookstore or by clicking here:

Buy the book (*This is a website on the original e-mail.)

The book comes at an important time, a vital moment on Earth.

Right now our nation is ready to cross the tipping point beyond which our leaders will be forced to take real action to solve the climate crisis. However, in order to cross that threshold it is going to take a sufficient expression of political will.

Most of our Representatives in Washington know there is no longer a debate about the fact that the climate crisis is real -- and they know the serious consequences our planet faces if we fail to act. Political will is a renewable resource, and enough already exists to start solving this crisis. We just have to communicate that forcefully to the political leaders of our country.

As John and Teresa's book demonstrates, the most powerful way to realize that change is through the activism of the American people.

That is why a few months ago I began building a movement at AlGore.com. Already we have grown to a community of more than 550,000. In order to ultimately succeed we will need to grow even bigger.

Today I want to invite you to join our movement to solve the climate crisis by visiting:

http://www.algore.com/join/

For many years, I have worked with John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry to fight for a solution to the climate crisis -- way before it was fashionable. Indeed, they were providing outstanding and courageous leadership on these vital questions when very few people in the world were even paying attention to these challenges. This commitment continues in their important new book.

I urge you to join me in working for change. And I urge you to read John and Teresa's wonderful new book for moving and inspiring illustrations of the potential power of Americans working for a better planet. Together, we can create a better tomorrow for our Earth if we seize this vital moment.

Thank you,*4

[[[ "If we stand together and speak with many strong voices, ..., we will bring change," pointed out John Kerry. ]]]*5

Success in Education
Senate Majority Leader Raggio, Speaker Buckley and I, acted in what we believed was the best interest of Nevada¡¯s students
By James A. Gibbons

This past week brought a great victory to the students of Nevada. The compromise we reached for education funding gives me great hope for a brighter future for Nevada¡¯s children.

My budget contained record increases for education--18 percent for kindergarten through 12th grade and 16 percent for higher education. It also contained the concept of Empowerment schools. When it came to compromise, the legislative leadership of both parties and I all yielded a little and by doing so our children gained a lot.

Empowerment is my proposal to give individual principals and their schools the power to manage their own budgets, curricula and schedules to best serve their unique student populations. This compromise ensures that empowerment receives the meaningful pilot program it deserves in Nevada. A total of 29 schools will be empowered in ten Nevada counties. In addition, teachers will get a six-percent pay increase over the next two years. Career and technical education programs will get an additional $7 million over the biennium. Further, the Innovative Education Fund, which has been working wonders in school districts like White Pine County, where student achievement has increased dramatically, gets roughly a $17 million infusion.

Higher education also kept the increased per-student funding which I proposed and even managed to achieve more than $50 million in "hold harmless" funding, which protects college and university budgets even when enrollment falls below projections.

I cannot take credit for supporting every successful education program. Nor can I say I won all that I wanted to achieve for our schools. However, I believe all of us involved in the process, especially Senate Majority Leader Raggio, Speaker Buckley and I, acted in what we believed was the best interest of Nevada¡¯s students. In the end, Nevada¡¯s students won.

As we state in the letter head of this article that, "It's our pleasure to pay a tribute to the above officials who dedicate to the civic and community service aspects of our organization (WBTI) in an honorary or adjunct capacity." "The willingness to create a new vision is a statement of your belief in your potential," pointed out David McNally. Carl Schutz told us that, "Ideals are like stars. You will not succeed in touching them with your hands. But like the seafaring man on the desert of waters, you choose them as your guides and following them you will reach your destiny." It is our pleasure to inspire the significance of the idea, "The world of tomorrow belongs to the person who has the vision today," which was stated by Robert Schuller. Having good vision, we will bring it together with us to help promote a peaceful, happy, and healthy community.

"Vision seems to be an elusive yet import life principle. Your vision describes the ideal future for you to attain. It provides meaning and direction while forcing you to break through present limitations. Holding a clear picture in your mind of the desired future will mobilize your creative efforts and generate the desire and energy to perform," edited Glenn Ekeren in his book entitled "Speaker's Source Book II".

Vision may develop its power to direct what tommorrow will look like. Vision is having an acute sense of the possible. The thing what others can not see, it can be seen by vision. Something extraordinary will occur when those with similar visions are drawn together. The goal of John F. Kennedy set in 1060 to place a man on the moon by 1970 drew many million people's efforts in achieving the dream. John had the vision. The result is now history with reality.

"I've joined the faculty of Public Administration Institution to work with its intellectuals such as Shelley Berkley, Dina Titus, Nancy Becker, Frankie Sue Del Papa, Dr. Roy Adamson, Mark Denton, Nancy Saitta, Valoerie Vega, Jennifer Togliatti, Michelle Leavitt, and among others under the leadership of U. S. Senator Harry Reid and Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn with Dr. William Thompson as its Director and Fellow. It's one of our added assets that we have the excellent caliber of President Dr. Tony T. Lei of WBTI as our Senior Advisor of our Office of Assistant District Attorney. Obviously, we're winning prestige for our efficient work performance for our residents and visitors of Southern Nevada together with WBTI and its PAI's modern knowledge, rigtheous wisdom, and professional integrity," said Steward Bell, District Attorney, for the event and dinner party chaired by Dr. Tony Lei, Dr. R. D. Prabhu, David Amesbuy, Esq., and among others. It was held by the Asian American Community on June 18, 2002 at the Harbor Palace Restaurant in Las Vegas.*6

On September 23, 2002, District Attorney Stewart Bell wrote in his Office to President Dr. Tony Tung-tien Lei that "Dear Dr. Lei, I am honor and prviledged to accept your appointment as Honorary Chairman of the Clark County Distrct Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. I look forward to meeting on October 7th." In a second letter that he wrote on the same day stated that, "Dear Dr. Lei, I am honor and prviledged to accept your appointment as Senior Advisor of the Clark County Distrct Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of the Washington Business and Technology Institute. I look forward to meeting on October 7th." The two original letters were shown in the section of "Photos & Pictures". An elegant dinner party was held by WBTI to celebrate the appointments at the Steak House of Binion Horseshoe Club on October 7, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.*7

Enthusiasm is important, especially very important to many things in our lives. We need to push our valuable vision through enthusiasm. We are pleased to quote the following three short but meaningful ones:

***** There is nothing greater than enthusiasm. ---Henry Moore
***** If you don't have enthusiasm, you don't have anything. ---Kemmons Wilson, Sr.
***** Nothing good or great can be done in the absence of enthusiasm. ---Tom Peters

We are quite inspired by the words of wisdom as said by Alan Loy McGinnis that, "There is no more noble occupation in the world than to assist another human being--to help someone succeed." Vision with enthusiasm may bring us with hope to serve our people, community, and country!

We may like to agree with what Dr. Thomas Dooley said that, "Dedicate some of your life to others. Your dedication will not be a sacrifice. It will be an exhilarating experience because it is intense effort applied toward a meaningful end."

"Dear Dr. Lei, I have read the wonderful article below and have learned so much about what is going on in our local community as well as world wide. There are so many important people who do good things for the community, and they should be commended for all of their efforts. I am highly impressed that you have so many friends and colleagues who communicate with you about their projects and activities for the betterment of society, including our Asian community. Best wishes," pointed out Cheryl Moss, District Court Judge of Nevada.

Entitled with "Michael Douglas: Igniting the city through the cooperation and development with our expertise, integrity, and professionalism is on the way!", the artitle was written by Valerie Weber, Cheryl Moss, Ingrid Ou, and Jennifer Kung.

"It's my great honor to be named by President Dr. Tony Lei as a Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and an Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC) of Washington Business and Technolgy Institute (WBTI)," pointed out Chief Justice of Nevada Supreme Court William Maupin at the Celebration Party to "Nevada Examiner" and "Communitylink of Reviewjournal.com" at the Steak House of Binion's Horseshoe Club, Las Vegas, Nevada on October 10, 2002. The Party was held by WBTI to celebrate William Maupin's being appointed as its Fellow of the Public Administration Institution (PAI) and as its Honorary Chairman of the Clark County District Attorney and Police Civil Commission (CCDAPCC). "Please know that I irrevocably stand by my personal commitment to diversity issues in this state and that my sense of patriotism and faith in America stems from its embrace of that diversity." *8

Wish the wisdom and effort of WBTI and PDCLV a great success!

Michael Douglas, Valerie Weber, Cheryl Moss, and Tiffany Chang said that, "Brilliant, Google and Yahoo answer our people, community, and country!

"Leadership is love through integrity! To lead is to serve, to give, and to achieve together. Love with value is based on a real, practical, and genuine spirit concern for others as persons, for their values as they feel them, for their development and growth. A successful leader is consistently follwed by others. People follow because they have a belief in the direction, intergrity, and competence of the one leading. A leader's ultimate responsibility is to facilitate other individual's development as well as his own. Under her inspiration all the way from community through international perspective, it's our pleasure to participate, promote, and inspire the endeavor of individuals and projects that can enrich the lives of many people and communities," pointed out U. S. Congresswoman Shelley Berkley's Senior Advisor Dr. Tony T. Lei early in the morning on June 1, 2007 in Las Vega, Nevada.

The end is near
Senate Democrats are glad legislators have continued to look for additional funding for education
By Dr. Dina Titus

"I did it because of the terrible mess that the prior Legislature put our education system in by holding our kids' education hostage."

-Jim Gibbons, October 28, 2004 (on authoring the "Education First" Initiative)
___________________________________

Dear Tony,

Yesterday (5/29/07), after long negotiations, an agreement of sorts was reached that attempts to reconcile the key priorities of the Governor and the Democratic leadership in the state Senate and Assembly.

The Governor's quest for tax breaks for businessmen threatened this session's goal of making critical improvements in our schools and much-needed help for our teachers. Because of the Gibbons' "Education First" initiative, the legislature must pass the education budget first. With six days remaining in the mandatory 120 day legislative session, your legislature has yet to pass a single budget.

The education budget has been, in fact, held hostage to tax breaks that the business community has yet to indicate was a priority. The fact that the Education First law has been used as a political tool for leveraging a single politician's agenda is not surprising for all of us who fought for a new direction in Nevada.

For now, it's politics as usual here in sunny Carson City. While the Senate's Democrats did not attend the press event yesterday, we will continue to work to pass the very best budget that can be of some value to the people of our state, and we'll continue to work on some key points left out of the press announcements today.

This is that moment of the legislative session where we are between a rock and a hard place: the rock being a 120 day session with an education budget first mandate, and the hard place being the Governor's policy priorities.

I will tell you that I will never compromise my values, and will try to make the best of a difficult and messy situation. In just a few short months, we've gone from "Education First" to education worst. We have now been listed as 50th in the country by the Congressional Quarterly. This is unacceptable.

Perhaps, with a little help from you and me, the public will take a close look at their state government post 2006. For now, we'll work within the legal restrictions placed before us. Next year, our opponents may have some explaining to do.

Sincerely,

Dina Titus
Nevada Senate Minority Leader

P.S. ?Here's some late breaking good news. Under the LEED revisions, another $12 million has been discovered which can go to teacher raises. Reflecting what we said yesterday, Senate Democrats are glad legislators have continued to look for additional funding for education. Another million was also added for Career and Tech programs.

Thank You, Nevadans!
By Dr. Kenny C. Guinn and Dema Guinn*1

My Fellow Nevadans:

Dema and I have had the honor and distinction of serving you for eight wonderful years as your First Lady and Governor. Through this time and the campaign leading up to my first election victory in 1998, we have come in contact with literally thousands of Nevadans who have made a difference in our lives; people who we have come to respect, appreciate, and admire for their sacrifice and sense of duty to their state and nation.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of being Governor and First Lady is traversing the state, meeting caring people who are passionate about particular issues and ideas that affect their daily lives. Our visits to communities across our state have afforded Dema and me memories and friendships that will last the rest of our lives. We are truly grateful for and appreciative of the encouragement so many of you have provided us along our way.

I would also like to express my appreciation to ...

In closing our eight memorable years as Governor and First Lady, we would like to say thank you to the people of this great state for allowing us to serve you. It has been a great ride!
